- I set out on one of my most incredible journeys yet! I head to the Wind River Range in Wyoming with some of my closest family and friends for a weeklong adventure of backpacking and fishing. There were some incredible moments, some exhausting days, and some excellent memories. I hope you enjoy this video and it inspires you to go and get outside. Please comment on what you think and ask your questions.

The Wind River range is absolutely stunning and one of the best high alpine experiences you can have. The lack of pressure is awesome and the terrain one of the best!

Enjoyed the video. Been up that drainage a few times. Gets pressure since it's easy to get to. Did not catch or even see any golden at the top lake, but it was mid-September. Assume you were there late July/early Aug. Did use spinning outfit (wind more often than not) but they usually hit a Jakes. Can also put a fly on same rig. Had a big one on an orange scud at another lake but lost it. The 2nd lake has lots of camp spots but need to be careful with all the dead trees. Wouldn't be the Winds without a storm of some type!

I went on a 20 miles 5 day backpacking trip and we caught about 40 at dream lake and Raid lake some of the best fishing ever

Enjoyed the video. That drainage is actually one of my most favorite places in the northern Rockies and I've been in there 5 or 6 times, most recently in 2020 and 2021. What you call the "2nd lake" actually has nice Cutts up to about 20 inches but they can be finicky and difficult to catch. There is another lake immediately above its northwest end that also has nice Cutts though I've never fished it. The golden lake has long been on my list but have yet to make it there.

Looks like you know a lot more about fishing than backpacking. You won’t see much wildlife in the Winds. But get your food bag up when you first arrive. My wife had a very large male grizzly walk by her one early morning when she was going to the bathroom. So they are occasionally around. That 1st “Golden” looks like a basic rainbow. Closely related of course.
The Winds are not for the faint. The weather can get severe, especially at the Continental divide.

What was the name of the lake that had the goldens? I have a list of lakes that I think have golden trout but I have never caught one. (wild horse lake #9, big clear lake, crater lake, triangle lake, elbow lake, titcomb lake, Don lakes, cub lakes, upper Golden lake, lake louise, golden lake, the lake below golden lake, Dennis lake and the the four big lake along milky creek)
Some of these lakes are in Idaho and some are in the wind rivers.
