I ended up getting worked that day. Didn’t get a takedown til almost 4pm. Saw plenty of fish caught. I skimped on bait and tried using old stuff. Finally put my freshest bait in the water and had that takedown within 10 minutes. Didn’t stick though. That will be the last time I try to stretch a 2 dollar can of tuna. Way to get it done Tyler.
Man this awesome to see how effective trolling with a PDL kayak can be. I only use paddle kayaks right now for all my fishing and they're great, but the convenience of the PDL seems like a game changer 👌 Great video!
I made it out for the first trip of the year last Saturday and set up my rod the way you showed with a sinker slide, dodger and wedding ring. Caught 8 fat rainbows on the setup. Really appreciate your instructional videos.
Anytime you're huffin and puffin and making an occasional moan, and its not bedroom related, its because you're fighting a King out of the yak lol Nice work on the Spring King, T.
Fished Drano when I first started kayaking back in 2008 definitely combat fishing… Awesomeness on your Fishin today!!! Hell Yeah!!! I’d love to be there!!! Been wanting to go back and fish the area… back then I was on a little pelican, Upgraded to a revo in 2012 now have a 2017 Revo… maybe I’ll make it up for some fall kings…. Keep um coming tight lines… 🤙
Caught my first one of the season that day as well. Spinfish. Two of my buddies have Kayaks and have been hooking fish. Im still in the gas powered boat.
I've launched my kayak a couple of times from the wind River launch, had no idea there was another place to go! Is that upriver or downriver along the Columbia? I used to toss wiggle warts from that bank, great memories! When they shut it down, I started researching kayaks haha it's crazy, that's how I found your content!! Full circle
Watching your videos is really exiting. I’m new to fishing and really have enjoyed doing so. Any way you can tell me or show me in a map exactly where you were fishing as I don’t know much where to go thanks.
I’m going to go down there for the first time in May. Going to give it a try. Any suggestions on scents to try on the tuna? i noticed you fished it straight out the can
Being a cheapskate, I was wondering something the other day and your video brought the thought back to the light. Can you setup a single reel for kokanee and chinook? I know the rods need to be different as too stiff of a rod for kokanee would allow them to pull off the hooks.
what would be your best guess as to the size of the fishing area inside the buoys? how many boats were fishing the area? didnt look as crowded as pics ive seen of drano.

Couple questions for you on the Spinfish rigging, when you tie up your leaders do you point your hooks in the opposite direction like you do with your Kokanee setups? Do you like/trust the stock hooks and leaders or do you re-tie yours?
Your channel is brand new to me I can’t stop watching your vids! Question, is wind river open after they close the lower section of the Columbia in the beginning part of April? Or is this too hush hush to share this information? Understand if so. I’m just new to that area
It varies by year but as long as the Wind River hatchery is sure they will meet their escapement goals it’s usually open after the main stem closes below Bonneville
@@spiltmilt thank you so much for taking the time to respond! Do you have an instagram page as well? I’d love to subscribe to that if so. Tight lines and take care brother!
What size hooks do you use for chinook? Will the size 1 hooks used for sockeye also work? What size net are you using? Your videos are putting me on bigger and bigger fish!!
Hey My friend I have a quick couple questions. Trolling using a triangle flasher and Brads super bait cut plug Those should work pretty well together right? I would assume it depends on the clarity of the water but what length of leader would you use? I am fairly new to fishing off a kayak, especially trolling for salmon.
Nice fish! Ironically, I am putting out tomorrow or the next day, a smoked salmon video. Almost done editing, check it out when I finish it if you want. I have been busy putting firewood cutting videos and switching it up. Love your videos!
In this case its because the Salty is the only kayak I brought with me which is good because I had to cart it aways and down a steep bank. If I need to do any kind of anchoring I'd bring the AutoPilot but for trolling I prefer the pedal drives.
Yes Indeed !!!!!! 2021 saw a New STATE Chinook Salmon Record caught in Lake Michigan …… 41+ lbs !!!!! Thankful for the West Coast Brood Stock !!!!! ✨🎣💫
I keep moving forward to maintain pressure on the fish. They are much less likely to spit the hook that way. Fight fish how you want to and I’ll fight fish how I want to 👍
@@spiltmilt Sorry, I thought you mentioned it before. I know others had the same issue that day. Anyway, thanks for another informative and great video!
Love your videos! Been all over Kokanee lately and I have you to thank for that. What size hooks would you recommend for chinook? Say with 4”hoochie? Also, 18”-30” leader length? Thanks for all the great content!
@@spiltmilt Perfect, do you have a style preference? The Splitshot/drop shot hooks do work wonders with Kokes. Hoping to rig up a variety pack to try when I get out. Thank you!
Maybe for people who don’t understand the regs it isn’t but many places along the Columbia allow two rods for salmon including the Willamette, the Wind, and in Drano Lake. Maybe check the facts before typing
Those are my favorite days, long and relaxing, and when you are about to go home you say just two more cast, and BAM fish on!
Sounds like you’ve been fishing with my group. Problem is we say 2 more casts and stay 3 more hours;)

Pleasantly surprised how crowded it isn't. Looks a lot of fun and quite relaxing in a kayak
Thanks for the great tips!! Was done there this morning in 30 minutes!
Awesome! I started drano today and wound up at little wind too!

Gorgeous fish, and great tablefare!
In British Columbia you can have two, Rods if you are by your self in a boat , Tidal water and Non Tidal waters , Kayak fishing is popular here also

Fished there the last two Wednesdays. What a blast it is there. It’s like drano with a fraction of the headache. Nice work.

It sucks this year. Very low catch rates.

Mr. Milt where is this park you park at. as soon as the wind dies down I am going to hit the wind river and see if I can catch a springer.
Here maps.app.goo.gl/JSg5W98K1Kcbjush7 but word is the launch is not usable this year due to low water
What power on the rod?
Nevermind you say everything ha

No more of a mag lip fan
what would be your best guess as to the size of the fishing area inside the buoys? how many boats were fishing the area? didnt look as crowded as pics ive seen of drano.

You can absolutely do it on a paddle kayak. Go for it! More of a sleigh ride because you can't dictate the fight as much

What length rod do you run. Only rod I have that can handle 12oz of lead is my 10'6 extra heavy which may be too much rod for kayak fishing.
I have a whole video on this subject. I run 16 oz or more on all these with no issue. ua-cam.com/video/b0qMW0f8PUk/v-deo.html

Size 1 is fine for Sockeye for Chinook I use 2/0
Net size 25x27
I know this is Washington side. Do you know any kayak friendly locations on the oregon side?
If and when the mainstem Columbia is open for spring Chinook you can fish the mouth of the Klickitat and Deschutes for Chinook with an Oregon license.
It’s pretty simple, I see the kayak guy in the Columbia and I’m watching it.
Just replace Drano with the term "Combat Fishing." 😳🤣 Congrats on the Nate and the hatchery!

I don't do guided trips but I have tons of content from the lower and upper river.
Was the tuna really for breakfast or for bait?
To catch a chinook you have to eat like a chinook.

Tuna in oil with garlic bloody tuna from Pro-cure
maybe a dumb question but do you need an oregon or washington license for that area?
Washington
