      During LTX somebody was recording and talking to LABS.. somebody in LABS mentioned they retest everything for each test and mentioned (in a belittling tone) that gamers nexus did not do that. In the next week's WAN show, Linus said that was correct but not the best way to say it. So effectively they said their data was better than Gamers Nexus data. That may have prompted Steve to do a video since I am sure he knew LMG videos were riddled with errors before that.

      Factually, IF Labs gets their heads out of their asses. It will be way better than GN and HU. What the guy said was correct - GN & HWU do not have the time or procedures to retest everything each time and use old data (that they themselves admit even in the video - they just say it does not need to be retested).
      STEVE at Hardware Unboxed seems to come the closest with his testing. It is just a matter of opinion IF the Labs way will be more effective with comparable numbers or just a waste of automated time. Linus rushed Labs production, due to wanting ROI on that huge investment. So will Labs testing just be MORE data or will it also be MORE data that has value.
      Steve at Gamers Nexus just seems butt hurt to me as HE wants to be the Data Test Guy - Even They get it wrong too. That was almost a year ago, combined with journalist practices about sponsors VS product reviews that artificially outperformed better products. Especially when they partner for branding on other unrelated products on the store.

      @@tisjester I disagree that he's "butthurt." Benchmark testing channels have existed before and in parallel with Gamer's Nexus and Steve's testing all of this time, and he doesn't show any amount of animosity towards other bench markers, like Hardware Unboxed as an example of a really big direct competitor. He reported on news that calls into question the validity of a $100 million company testing routines, pointed out obvious unethical business practices, and reported on how the company overworks their staff, and brought receipts.
      Between having the best benchmarking on youtube, in-depth technical analysis few on the platform have to rival, and leveraging their contact network to get accurate reporting, I find it hard to believe Steve's reporting is strictly a jealous feud with a fellow content creator, and the callousness of the LMG response alongside newer allegations Gamer's Nexus is yet to report on is very telling.

      I think it was borderline ok in this case not to ask for comment, but ONLY because most of the video was just compiling already public information from published LTT videos. However, general journalistic practice is absolutely to compile the results of your investigation, then boil it down into a few questions that the subject can comment on if they like, and then publish your results together with the response. Arguably the part about billet labs was worth a request for comment, but I can see both sides there since it was only one part of the video.
      Either way, this practice has nothing whatsoever to do with blackmail or bribes, that's ridiculous. You naturally gather the info from all sides except the perspective of the subject, and then give the subject a final opportunity to add their perspective and an opportunity to take corrective action before publishing. That doesn't mean you don't publish your piece if they take corrective action.

    • @gingerelvis

      Why? It's absolutely what reputable news organisations do. They compile their evidence and put it to the defendant for their response (good, bad bs or whatever) to include in their final published article. How many times have you seen stories on massive organisations where the article says *insert company name here* refused to add further comment? It's balanced reporting, going in without a response doesn't show the greatest balance. Any journalist worth their salt should not be swung by any hypothetical blackmail or bribes if they truly believe in what they are publishing and their angle on the story so surely Steve had nothing to lose by including a simple direct quote? I'm not taking side here, I just hope that the tech space becomes more balanced all round.

      Another former employee who left the company under generally more favorable circumstances has since corroborated what she said-it wasn't a good environment, she wasn't treated well, and kinda anyone who should've been in a position to look into this kind of problem was too caught up in the grind themselves to do anything constructive about it all.
      I mean, who knows how much actually bad happened there, and what can an "independent audit" verify now except for that it was a bad situation? I don't think Madison is out for blood or anything (I don't twit, so all I have are second-hand accounts of what she said in her thread) and I don't expect anyone to get fired unless in the hopes of throwing someone under a bus to save the company (which would be bad IMO…)
      What needs to be changing at the company is hopefully already underway without waiting for any investigation to figure how badly anyone f**ked up with Madison, because we already know stuff happened that shouldn't have as a result of there being a total lack of things that should've been in place years ago to prevent these kinds of things from happening in the first place.

      It was a graph issue, their data was fine; and like Hardware Unboxed said in their defense; their conclusions usually lined up similar to other outlets.
      So the person responsible for taking the data, and putting on a graph was missing some things and the editors weren't catching it before it went live.
      It's an extremely small issue; because it didn't effect their data, which is what the writers went from, whereas the editors had to deal with the graphs and the inaccurate numbers given.

Linus followed up in a following WAN show episode, telling everyone that he stood by the comments and that LTT was superior. GN Steve's video was actually a very accurate response with all of the receipts that in fact Linus' assertion was wrong in every way. It seems everyone doing videos about this, likes to blame Steve or at least assert that he was at fault for kicking everything off but in fact this was 100% Linus' own doing and his ego and mouthing off (which is pretty standard these days) put him in this position in the first place.

    They have proven that they cannot be trusted as a data source or review source. IT's one thing to make 'Mistakes', it's another not to bother with not only checking for mistakes but refusing to properly edit them.
    LTT forever will be a fart jokes tech based entertainment channel to not be taken seriously. And I'll still watch them goof off. But when it comes to any sort of product review, they clearly aren't interested in accuracy and proper information for their viewers.

    • @_Ekaros
      @_Ekaros 9 місяців тому +6

      Also the level of some errors. Like 4x performance between generations. That is something so amazing it would change the whole video. But seemingly it can easily pass through. Those kind of errors just show that there is not either enough skill/experience in production pipeline or they do not just care enough of their viewers as company.

      LTT's claims about the new lab didn't start all this. That was what caused the Twitter response from HUB and led to a "I'm sorry about this but we have point too" sequence (the usual Linus style) on the WAN show. GN's work would have required more time to prepare such content which was also mentioned by Steve on that video as it has been a long time coming. Besides I don't think GN Steve would be motivated to do all this just because LTT made a false comment about their testing methods.

    • @mjc0961
      @mjc0961 8 місяців тому +4

      @@shakrooph LTT's claims about the new lab absolutely started all this. Timeline as we can publicly see it goes like this:
      1. LMG makes stupid, inappropriate, and incorrect comments attacking GN and HUB in a tour video
      2. HUB Steve responds on Twitter, GN Steve was going to leave it alone
      3. Linus doubles down on WAN Show, and also unprofessionally whines about GN being unprofessional while not being professional enough to mention GN
      4. GN Steve responds with the video showcasing all the ways LMG has been unprofessional and producing bad data
      Without LMG's stupid tour comments, none of the rest of this happens - HUB Steve has nothing to respond to, Linus has nothing to double down on, GN Steve has nothing to respond to. It's all because of LMG's initial comments.

      @@mjc0961 that public timeline is correct for the release of the videos/responses, but GN's video was being prepared before that. GN Steve said as much himself. LTT's responses may have escalated things for GN's production but it's certain at this point that GN was going to drop a video about the ethics of LTT. If nothing else, it's easy to see how much time GN's LTT video would have required to prepare and would not be something rushed just to respond to LTT

    Anybody watching the WAN show, you could see how arrogant sometimes Linus can be. "I won't spend $500" to do a re-test properly or devote resources for a product (something he didn't like) is just down right wrong. I mean, isn't it your Job description and you can't do it right?

    Linus playbook for handling criticism:
    1: Ignore, deflect and gaslight.
    2: Make non-apology or weak apology.
    3: Go on WAN show or elsewhere and make comments playing things down and acting like everyone else was being silly really, and you shouldn't have been treated like that ("Oh poor me.")
    Linus always followed this playbook, he just had tons of good will with viewers established, which he was expending each time. However at this point the company has grown too large, he has done it too many times over a short period, and LMG have gotten a little to high on their own supply by pretending that they are the "best" at making serious reviews, especially egregious when they have always hidden behind "we are entertainment" when they messed up before. Basically they have been caught pulling a Fox News and both declaring "we are entertainment, so we don't have to care about accuracy" and "we are the only real trustworthy source around," both can't be true.
