Oh man! This video is very detailed. Now I don't own Chisos boots but what I got from this video is the Shape Mods. I own a pair of PNW boots with a celastic toe box and my god, once I collapsed(smashed the toe box, lol) they looked and felt even better. I honestly never seen a video speak about modifying the "look" of the toe box so I want to give you guys some props. Thank you. And wish you guys continued success.
Zippers on boots-put a small key ring through the ripper tab, and then you can pull them up with your boot jacks. You can also push them down, but it takes a bit of patience.
Hey Will Very interesting video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and knowledge. Most are very simple and easy to modify.. very cool 🇺🇸🤠 Looking forward to your next party.. Waving a hand from Odessa to y’all…
These are great tips. Thanks! I've got Tecovas Cartwright in dark brown (Stout Bovine), and I love them, but I think my next pair will be the Chinos #5 in Magic Black. I'd like a nice black boot with a point.
I always do the riders strap around the boot shafts but I still feel so uncomfortable wearing them like that because yes I also do wear slimmer fitted jeans
Raising the heel moves it up out of the heel cup and slips even more but removing the heel cup and adding additional half insoles to just the front stops heel slippage a bit more for me and ticks the ball of the heel where it’s supposed to be in the heel cup. I use a cheap fabric steamer to heat and form my new cowboy boots and then mink oil afterwards. Most quality Boots are about exactly the same its peoples feet that vary in sizes lol and 2 insoles in one boot and just one in another is common and works well.
Wear your Boots with Pride, I bought my first pair of Nocona in 1987 and still have them. The Chisos are a bit steep for me but watching eBay daily for secondhand.
My father and I bought some ostrich boots from tecovas for our 60th and 30th birthdays and for some reason i could never get the fit right; i went from 11 1/2 to 11 and the fit is still a little lose at the top of the foot. Do Chiso’s fit differently?
Most brands have their own proprietary lasts. Chisos does. We built ours from scratch, not using a formula. So yes, the fit is a little unique. I'd recommend starting with an 11 in Chisos!
We don't recommend applying any heat to your boots! That can dry out the top layer of the grain more than the underlying layers, which will make the leather more prone to damage and splitting
Howdy What you'll need to do is sand down the entire edge and then re-stain it, but yes, it's possible! No disadvantages that I can think of. Thank you, Allison
For those watching r this video who want a lighter boot… I spilled gas on my boot day one so I wanted to try and save it. I used a Clorox wipe and it took the die off the lower half. So now it’s two tone! The visible part is light brown and the shaft is dark brown!
1) Cut a very thin insole to just be the heel portion. Place that in the bottom of the heel cup area. 2) Use your hands to press the tops of the leather heel counter inwards, thereby increasing the "cupping" of the heel. 3) Wear them! Eventually, a good leather heel counter will mold a bit to your foot.
It depends on the desired finish, but a buffing wheel or a high-grit sandpaper will do the trick! Take it slow, and test a small area before committing to the whole boot. And keep some balm handy in case you take off too much of the finish!
Good tips but I don't understand why these don't have the option for a sole saver or rubber sole as standard? I get it, traditional cowboy boots and all but my first (and only) pair of 'motorcycle' boots had leather soles that wore out in about six months and had a local cobbler install a lug sole.
That's just not our business! But you're right, there are times when a rubber sole is better than a leather one! Any good cobbler can help out with that though!
No, even a great cobbler can't work magic like that ;) Not without completely rebuilding the boots, but that would likely cost as much as a new pair. However, Chisos have a removable comfort insole. If you put an extra insole underneath ours, it will have a similar affect as to make the boot fit more narrow!
One question: how much increase of the height of the heel do you consider that I can add to a cowboy boot? Let's say to go from roper to riding heel (or even higher)
You need to talk to a skilled boot carpenter about that! We suggest Scott Maddox from Snellville Shoe Repair in Georgia! Give his shop a call and they can assist.
Hey will, I’m looking for a pair of, I guess you could say ranching boots, or more of a boot I can wear for working on a ranch, I’m trying to start working for one soon and would like the right boots for the job, would your boots be meant for this or are these more of dress/everyday boots? Thank you, -Tyler
Howdy, Tyler! You can work in Chisos, but with a few caveats. Every cowboy boot should be rotated to make it last longer, so take a day off between wears for it to air out. Additionally leather soles don't like water, so muddy conditions will reduce the longevity and require you to resole/repair them sooner. And finally goodyear welt isn't water proof, it's water resistant. Chisos are perfect every day wear boots and can be worked in as well, just know that you will accelerate the time frame for a resole. One recommendation is to add a rubber sole saver. And when it does come time for a resole, you might consider a full rubber sole. Cheers and hope this provides some guidance, Tyler!
My apologies for the late response I guess my notifications weren’t on, but thank you for the response I will definitely be considering your boot and probably will buy a pair once y’all have some EE made! Again thank you this really helped as I’ve been doing I line research for a while now with tho other brands beside getting a custom made pair. Cheers, Tyler
Any recommendations for reducing the amount of arch support in the boot? I bought a pair of Chisos No. 6 and what felt great initially turned out to be pretty uncomfortable because it had too much arch support and felt like I was walking on my arches with very little pressure on my heel and the ball of my foot where it belongs. The boot fits perfect in terms of size with the Chisos insert so I don't want to just take it out because the boot will be way too big. Just trying to find a way to make the insole a wear a little flatter so I'm not walking on my arches.
Hmmm Could try adding material underneath the heel area of the insole. Cloth, leather, or a thin heel insole may help. Shoot us an email howdy@chisos.com happy to discuss!
I want a pair of black 14 inch shaft leather work boots like that was worn on the old days. All the new cowboy boots are the rodeo ahort shaft style. I want the stove pipe kind. But all i can find is costume boots.
Please no superglue…. Super glue does NOT flex. We use contact cement. NO SUPER GLUE that will ruin the boot and crest premature cracks.
100% - I misspoke! Thank you for the correction.
@@Chisos no worries. I’ve see too many people ruin their boots with super glue.

How about increasing the height of the heel? Would love to appear to be even taller! 😊
Haaaaaaa
I didn’t notice this was on Chisos channel. I was thinking this man loves Chisos
well you ain't wrong
“Modern” jeans lol nice. Love my Chisos all three pairs. Can’t wait to get more
Great learning video!
I have never worn Chisos but hearing this and about the removable insoles...I'm impressed and gonna go look.
Thx

Hey Will. It's cool to see my shoe tree and masking tape mod on the video. I hope this has helped some people out.
Yessir! Thank you for your contribution, Mike!
Awesome Video :D
Hey Will, what hat brand/model are you wearing in this video? BTW, just ordered a pair if #2's and can't wait to receive them.

@@Chisos Fine is an understatement! Love my first pair of boots/Chisos!!!
I like the bootsraps shown, does anyone have recommendations on where to buy something similar?
beastmasterrodeo.com has some, sir!
@@Chisos, thank you!

The lighter and the lose threads is something ive done for a while. It stops unraveling in its tracks.

Hairdryer heat on stiff/new boots to loosen them up. Double sick, and repeat.

Great video and content! Can I use Edge Dressing on the No 2 Brushed Brown to paint away the contrasting midsole? Any disadvantages to this?
Howdy What you'll need to do is sand down the entire edge and then re-stain it, but yes, it's possible! No disadvantages that I can think of. Thank you, Allison
How about changing the shape of the heel?
Yessir, that can be done by any cobbler!
@Chisos Is that something I can do at home?
I wouldn't recommend it unless you have experience! Modifying boots is definitely an acquired skill, and it is better to be safe than sorry!

What type of sandpaper would be good for taking dye off the leather stack?
Howdy! I would use a fine-grit sand paper! The less abrasive, the better!
