Beautiful work! Now remembering Mr. Hernandez, my next door neighbor in Old El Paso, Texas, growing up. He was a master boot maker at the Tony Lama factory in the 70s and 80s. He had a shop in his back yard where he made custom boots for clients. I regret not having an interest in his craft as a kid. It would have been a great experience watching him do the things you all do
One of the things I love about hobbies and professions are the tools. Perhaps ya'll could make a video, or series of videos, showcasing the many tools ya'll use, machines, etc.
You can always tell a good cobbler when he does a half sole and you can’t tell where the seam is for years we used a small family owned place until they closed no one left in the family to take over the business broke my heart they did all of my repairs and maintenance for me and my dad
I'm amazed that with all the blades, needles, punches, awls, and hammers you use, your fingers are in as good shape as they are. Watching the channel from Canada
I just happened upon your channel the other day and now I'm hooked! Plus, I have a pair of Luccheses that need a resole, so this video is especially relevant!
Great topic. I took my old Tony Lama bison boots (which have pegs in the waist) to my local cobbler. He did a half sole and they came out great! Saved me some money too (half sole vs full re-sole).
Niiiice, I agree. A half sole is just fine many times. I'll even one down you .... Sometimes a sole saver and top lift plus a spiff-up can be the way to go.
I had a pair of blue cases that I sent back to Casey. They had to do a result to repair the leather and they were too tight when I got them back. The only thing I could think of is a stretch them naturally and the skin said no more stretch available when I wear them again so I sold them off.
i am always surprised how many different kinds of fasteners they are able to use on footware and still keep it away from the foot itself. They just basically hammered huge wooden splinters into the soul and it will never poke your foot, amazing, same goes for nails and brads when they do those, crazy stuff.
*It's because the boots are sitting on that metal anvil. The nails and wooden pegs hit that, and curl back into the leather soles. It's why we don't feel them poking our feet.*
Beautiful work. Dedication to the craft is incredible. God willing I live long enough to need my lemonwood-pegged Tecovas [either pair] resoled; if I do, I'll be sending them to you!
Great work as usual, actually took my boots (Thursday Legend) and socks (yep Camel City) before I watched this; I have some Darn Toughs but they're a bit tight on the top of my foot. Camel City has worked great while working (security guard) and haven't had any wear or material issues with them (up to six pairs now!).
Great video just one question why dont you pull the welting off then jerk the welt thread out in one long piece instead of cutting each thread and struggle picking each thread out?
This is precisely how my local cobbler did my cowboy boots 30 years ago when I wore those regularly. Two halves and then full resole. He just retired this last year.
Looks like an old pair of Tony Lamas. One of the best pairs of boots I had was a pair which looked almost identical to those, made from kangaroo, with the lizard critters on the toe. I wore them until they had big holes in the vamp. Hated to send them off to the abyss. Fine job of bringing those back to glory. And lookity 'dat GOOD girl keeping watch over her people in the shop!
Things to appreciate!!! How often does the waist get broken down in a pair of cowboy boots!?! I'd say not often! Commonsensical/logical approach for sure! Be Safe
Outstanding Video Guys and a lot of good info I really did not know resoling Cowboy Boots were that Technical to repair Take care and enjoy your weekend
Every time I see you guys using that stabby tool to make a hole for sewing the welt on, I have visions of me trying that and accidentally blasting through the other side and stabbing it through my other hand.
Good to hear about half sole option. I've got a question do you, Can you repair a dress show whose toe portion that has collapse. I think it happened in my case because I wasn't using a shoe tree. If these shoes it would be great. Let me know thanks
Hey guys, thanks for sharing this! I have never done a half-sole, but I have enough salvaged boots that I will give it a try. Just an observation that has me curious; you began sewing the welt from toe to shank. Is there an advantage to that approach? Thank you!
Enjoyed seeing the process of applying a half sole to a pair of boots. You must have removed the top lifts prior to the video . Those are some smokin' 🔥 boots btw.
Great video and the walk through explanations. Again, wouldn't trust my footwear to anyone else at this point. Annie looked away like "I always hate the buffer and sander so I can't watch " 😅😅😅😅😅
Hi Dan. I have a pair of beeswax leather clarks Wallabees. I’m curious what is the best way to treat scuffs without changing the color of the leather or adding shine? I like the look of the leather and how it is more of a matte finish. They scuff easily.
I just love this style of boots (Tony Lamas?). If these were still made, I would snap up a pair right away. You've done your usual high quality work, Trenton and Heath, with a superb result. Thanks for the great video, guys!
Great video, I have question about resoling norvegese welt. Is it a lot harder than resoling Goodyear welt? What about the cost difference? I have my eyes on a pair of chelsea boot with 360 degree norvegese welt, and currently hesistating to purchase due to resoling concern.
My opinion, different people like different heels. I have Vibram Cowboy heels on anything that will see work. I'll use Vibram or GoodYear heels like these for dress boots
People's feet grow bigger even after 5 decades. My boots are now almost too tight to wear comfortably. Can a cobbler slightly increase the size of a pair of shoes or boots to allow for foot growth?
Very helpful video. Probably not the best place to ask but I have a pair of boots that needs the inside lining replaced, do you guys do that kind of work?
I've always wondered....when you drive an inch of peg into the sole, where does the point end go? I know there's an anvil on the other side but does the insole get damaged? Do you take those out? How does one not feel like they're stepping on the pegs? (Same would go for nails used, but the pegs seem to be long in a thinner area.)
Good morning guys! I do have a question. For those that use the boots for work, will a half sole retain the same functionality of the boot? Or grime and water seep through the half sole cut, compromising the inside of the boot?
Half soles should hold up rather well, especially if they are glued well and tacked down, as we did it the video. However, if you’re using them under relatively rigorous environments, it may be better to go with a full sole.
@@TrentonHeath thank you!! I live in washington and rains a lot, i know mine will need a resole in like 4-5 months. I thought about a half sole until i saw your video and made me think about the rain. I appreciate it a lot guys!
Yep. My tabby boy Sherman did some work on my Redwings. I was able to minimize some of it after watching these brothers restore old cracked leather work boots. They look better but the cat really gave them hell.

I have a pair of Origin boots made in Maine they are stitch down and I can't find anyone to resole them. Thank You
Tell them to make toe socks
Hey im new to bring a cobbler at my dad shop can you help me, i need tips please like the 2 lines you drew for the half sole
LOVE Camel City Mill socks! Top quality and excellent design! Love them.
Beautiful work! Wish you could do mine 😊

This is why your business is thriving. You guys really know what to do that’s the best for each and every style that comes in to your shop.
Thanks so much.

Good thing i was reading the comment section and i was going to say almost the same thing or even a backscenes life
Yes! That's a great idea!
I'd also love to see that video about the tools and machines.
Big fan of the cowboy boot videos.
It's pretty much all i wear. I don't dance so i always glue on a rubber sole saver or buy boots with a rubber sole.
Glad you enjoy them! That’s always a great idea.

Yeah, unfortunately, more and more shops are closing each year.
Thanks for explaining the half soles. Have a great weekend gentlemen.
You’re welcome. Thanks again for watching! Have a great weekend as well.

Absolutely gorgeous wingtips, the after results are magnificent and so new boots!! 👏👏
Best half sole of a cowboy boot I've seen...Great work guys 👌👍

Your work is trully AMAZING!!!!
The attention to detail is remarkable.
Bought nice pair of cowboy boots ..ARIAT rough stock cowboy boots been worn but good shape nice leather needs heel saver..mink oiled $20..old GOODWILL. .
I love wing tip boots. I have a pair of Tony Lama’s. You did a great job.
Niiiice, I agree. A half sole is just fine many times. I'll even one down you .... Sometimes a sole saver and top lift plus a spiff-up can be the way to go.
Yeah, we’ve done some videos on sole savers. Those are always a great option.

Good video! Can Chelsea boots do half-sole too? I recently bought a pair of Chelsea boots and I am worried about the protection of the soles. Thanks
Yes

Experience matters! I love that idea. Given im not a cobbler but that is brilliant

I love those boots and wow, what a super resole. Not sure I could wear these here in the UK but hell, they are superb.
This pair of boots turned out great. Ric
Could you do a breakdown of the different options and prices for boot work? I got a little confused on all the options on your website.
Outstanding Video Guys and a lot of good info I really did not know resoling Cowboy Boots were that Technical to repair Take care and enjoy your weekend
Thanks! We appreciate you watching.

Thanks!

Nice job, boys☺ and I'm surprised, that your dog was so calm in that noise😊
Great decision. The boots look fantastic.

I have some fairly unique carpe diem boots that I want to send in for a full resole and leather half sole. Probably would make a cool video!
Please send an email with some pics of the boots to customerservice@potterandsons.com
Outstanding work
Beautiful work on Beautiful boots
Do you guys like tecovas boots? I was really close to getting a pair when I was visiting Tennessee.
I just love this style of boots (Tony Lamas?). If these were still made, I would snap up a pair right away. You've done your usual high quality work, Trenton and Heath, with a superb result. Thanks for the great video, guys!
Thank you! Yep, you guessed correctly…Tony Lama.
Very nice work !
that half sole connection will separate or break when you step into rocks
Those are to beautiful to wear now : ) Great Job!!!
Thank you!

Got these exact boots in 1980. El Paso. $80
I have some ostrich leather boots. What cleaner & conditioner do yall recommend?
Do you just use dye over the sole or do you have to add a polish on that to reduce rub off? Do you use boot stain sometimes and dye sometimes?
Is it possible to make a pair of Alden Shoes 1/2 size longer
Beautiful job, but just out of curiosity, why didn't you use Vibram cowboy heels?
My opinion, different people like different heels. I have Vibram Cowboy heels on anything that will see work. I'll use Vibram or GoodYear heels like these for dress boots
Love these guys!

Isn't the 3/4 channel welt with pegs in the middle the traditional way to make cowboy boots? That's how my Tony Lama boots are designed.
Very helpful video. Probably not the best place to ask but I have a pair of boots that needs the inside lining replaced, do you guys do that kind of work?

My name is Heath and I too, have a Liver Roan GSP.
Can you make cowboy boots smaller if they are too large ? Size 11 to size 9 or 9 1/2 ?
what up Annie Oakley!
Proud well I wear a catether on my thigh so I can wear my kilt. Nice boots.

The last cobbler I sent my boots to MESSED them up. Can I send it to these guys?
Loved the video
Thanks for watching!
How's order number 19813 coming?
Did the customer request a dark edge dressing?
What brand is the cream you used instead of the saphir?
it was Saphir creme conditioner. Sold on Amazon.
What kind of thread are you using on the welt?
Yippy yi yo ki eh 🤠 🐴
How do send my boots to you??
You don't have to resole if you glue on a sole saver.
I got 10 years out of a pair with hard use and then the shank popped through the inside...
Very true.
Very cool
Has anyone had experiences with Charles Tyrwhitt???
My grandsons Tomcat used my boots as a scratching post. The toes are all scratched to hell!...😡
Ugh…that’s not good! Pets can do a number on leather boots/shoes.
Tell me about it, I had the same thing happen to a pair of vintage Marlboro brand boots I own
Yep. My tabby boy Sherman did some work on my Redwings. I was able to minimize some of it after watching these brothers restore old cracked leather work boots. They look better but the cat really gave them hell.
🖖
Those boots don't even need new soles!
They really didn’t. It’s up to the customer though.

Halfsoles, hmmmmm. Isn't that what is ruining our country today?! That could be interpreted in so many ways...thnx guys! 💯🗽🇺🇸
I'd sooner cut off my feet than wear a cowboy boot. Unless you actually ride horses for a living. I won't wear a hardhat either.
Congratulations, no one cares.
