Bernina Foot Controller Acceleration Problem - Type 200 Controller
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лип 2024
- If your Bernina Sewing Machine goes full speed, and only full speed then this may be the fix.
Once set correctly the foot controller will allow for a smooth ramp-up and ramp-down of the speed of the machine.
This is the type 200 foot controller and you may have a problem where the machine takes off at full speed when you slowly put your foot down. There's no slow acceleration because the controller only delivers full power to the motor.
A foot controller should deliver power in a controlled acceleration curve, therefore providing control.
This issue is caused if the nut that determines the full speed is set incorrectly. When you depress the foot controller, it should act as a variable resistor until the nut creates a bridge between the terminals in the foot controller, at which point full power will be delivered. If the nut bridges the terminals too soon, the "variable resistor" does not have a chance to do its work and is overridden by the closing of the circuit.
The nut can be screwed up or down its shaft, therefore determining the point at which contact is made.

Prior to watching this, I was about to give up and purchase a generic pedal from ebay to resuscitate a vintage Bernina. Many thanks for making this video; it helped me fix my original pedal.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I own a Bernina 830 Record and I managed to change the motor brushes for the first time and adjust the pedal speed by following your instructions. I wouldn’t have found the courage to try to do this on my own, if it weren’t for your videos.
Super, thank you. My 730 pedal had the same issue. I skipped the disassembly by slipping a small rubber sleeve over the screw threads so as not to damage them while securing with needlenose pliers, and then turning the thumb screw in.
Thank you! Recently inherited my grandmother's Bernina from 1970 and was a bit peeved I wasn't able to control the speed until this video. Thanks to you and all like you who upload tutorial videos on extremely obscure issues. Heroes.
Thanks.
I fixed my Bernina 840 thanks to this video! Mine had the opposite problem - it wasn't hitting full power - but the fix was obvious once I watched this. Thanks, you have a great teaching style.
Glad it helped!
Indeed, I have a 830 with the same problem. I got it fixed with the help of the fine video, cheers.
Very helpful video, and your way of explaining a demo is calm and even this old lady can keep up.
Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Very grateful for seeing you open up the foot pedal...had thought I would have to lift out the white ceramic bit to reconnect the top plate of the pedal...but I can see it connects further down with the 4 self-tapping screws.... that's a quick job now that I know what it looks like inside! You are a star!!!
Thanks for showing all the small details it help a lot.
Had this same problem but we got it serviced and they fixed the problem , thank you for the video
Thank you so much for this tutorial. It helped me so much my machine is running a much better. 0 to 60 and a half a second was not working for me. Awesome thank you.
Thanks. I'm pleased it helped.
Thank you so much for this video. You helped me to fix my pedal.
Great video really helpful thank you
Thank you for the video. I have Bernina 930 vintage machine. how do I fix the pedal please?
Can you use this or the 210 bernina foot pedal with the Bernina 730?
Hello my bernina record with the same foot pedal as you are showing worked great but then the next morning it was completely dead , but the light bulb came on , please could you help .
I have Bernina 2000de serger foot controller problem. when plugged in , light comes on but it would work to sew when the foot controller is pressed. I know it's the foot controller because the serger works fine with another paddle. Any idea what can be wrong. Thanks
What if your foot control has no screws? How do you open the foot? It is the same machine as in the video. It was my grandmothers machine....so it is a very old machine but still working. Thank you
Hi, I did this but it hasn't changed anything. In fact when I opened the foot pedal, I went too far but noticed the black plug on one side holding the coil and carbon discs in place is broken, by broken I mean the part going into the coil has separated from the round part. Is this something that affects the speed? What is ths "plug" called and can I find a replacement?
Any advice appreciated!
Thank you,
Excellent demonstration 👍
Glad you liked it!
There is a black jam nut on a screw with a slot in the top that adjusts the plunger much quicker. Try it it’s just below the white ceramic unit
Thanks. I'll take a look next time I have one in bits.
Thanks. really helpful . now I need to find someone who has the skill to do it. :)
Happy to help
It didn't work for me. With the slightest touch on the pedal it goes full speed. Maybe the discs inside are broken?
21:30 GMT hi, l have this model of Bernina machine but my problem is that my machine races as soon as l connect the flex to the foot pedal(without depressing the foot pedal at all). Inside my pedal is a yellow capacitor & I wonder if the problem is with this. Can it be fixed, I can't be without my old machine l love it so much. Can you help? Please
The capacitor can be removed to test if the short circuit is caused by the capacitor or not. Thanks.
I checked my footpedal and the capacitor inside has melted on one end. Any clues of how to replace this?
You'll need to buy a new capacitor and soulder in on, in essence
Have a 213 control and as soon as the machine is plugged in the machine takes off. No pressure on foot control. Any idea?
It sounds like the capacitors may be faulty. See this video - ua-cam.com/video/_tqhDet2Csg/v-deo.html
Like Vilma Valladares72, I would like to know if you think this fix would work for a Bernina 830 Record Electronic which has a foot control Type 237. I inherited it from my mother. It is in excellent condition apart from this "all or nothing" speed which renders the machine unusable.
From memory, the electronic controllers have a capacitor in them that may need replacing. I'll do a video on it next time I come across one.
@@InStitches Wow! That was a speedy reply. Thank you! My mother sewed a lot on this machine, as did I until I left home about 1981. i know that it is a great machine and I would love to be able to use it again but, at present, this "no speed or full speed" makes it impossible. I live in hope!
Hi, just got myself a 801 Matic, the machine works when the pedal is attached but it just move by itself at turtle speed without ability to control or stop it. Would that be a pedal problem? Thank you! 🙏🏻
Did you ever work out this issue?
Are all the Bernina foot pedals look like this inside? I have a pedal the that looks original on the outside, but is made different on the inside. could a repair person have changed it without me knowing? My foot pedal is not working like what you showed but the inside is not the same as this one and I don't know where one would adjust it. When I try to sew slow there is a weird hesitation and it won't sew as fast as it used to. I know there is something really wrong. Do you think I should buy another foot pedal and see it that works? Wish you were near by, hard to find a good repairman. Thanks
Not all Bernina foot controllers look like this one inside. Probably the best way to troubleshoot this is to try a good foot controller if you can. That will help to isolate the issue. Thanks.
Hi, the bernina record 830 is a very rare model in my country Chile and the foot control is type 230, can you helpme please regulate the speed of my pedal. Thanks
Thanks. I answer this in a comment above.
My Type 200 Foot Controller capacitor needs replacing as it causes the machine to go full speed without even touching the controller. Where in NZ can you buy one?
Try your closest sewing machine mechanic.
@@InStitches Invercargill Bernina shop was hopeless - said could not get one. No one could suggest any mechanics. Went round all local electrical places and as was about to give up, Southland Electronics (more into sound systems) knew what I needed. In saying that they have still to get the capacitor and that is almost 2 weeks ago.
@@reposr1 Let me know if you don't have any luck and I can send you one. I have them in stock generally. My web address is in the video description.
Will this help with the type 213 Bernina 830 record 1978 foot speed control
There's no sound on this video
Sound is fine for me
