Sewing Machine Foot Control Pedal. What's inside an Electronic Foot Pedal

- In this video you know what's inside an electronic pedal of a sewing machine. If you want look what is inside another type of foot speed control pedal.
In this video I open up the case of electronic speed controller of sewing machine and show what's inside an electronic foot pedal.
This is a modern type of sewing pedal. The pedal is light and inexpensive, but it is impossible to repair it yourself.
If the electronic pedal breaks, it’s easier to buy a new speed control pedal. Repairing electronics will be more expensive than the cost of a new foot pedal. The only thing you can do on your own is to replace the fuse that is inside the pedal body. The fuse may fail so if your pedal fails to operate, make sure that the fuse is in good condition. Inside it there is a thin wire, which can melt during a sharp voltage surge in the network.
In this video, I will show you where this fuse is and how to disassemble the pedal case.
Note: Handle such a type pedal carefully. Electronic details are very fragile. Dropping the pedal on the floor can cause damage to the internal parts.
Thank you for this video! You just saved me $50 on a new foot pedal. The little white sliding thing had popped off and I didn't know how to put it back on... and then I did! Thanks again!
Yes I also could see how it is placed.
Bless you for this video!!! My foot peddle broke open with a large spring and I was so confused where it went till I saw this video. You definitely saved me money and time getting someone else to fix this simple task.
Thank you
The most common trouble of theese pedals is the failure of triac BT136 or BT138. If so, pedal does not regulate the speed of motor, and it starts to rotate at maximal speed on any working position. The triac costs less then 50 cents, so it's very easy to remove it and solder the new part instead of broken one.
Also it's easy to improve this pedal.
Small carbon resistor R3 is installed instead of trimmer resistor. It sets the minimal rpm value (the initial speed of the motor). If your motor starts to turn too quickly, just increase this resistor (desolder it, measure its resistanse, and solder another resistor twice as much or so instead), or remove it, and solder on its place a trimmer resistor about 1-2.2 MOhm (it could be quite difficult to buy). The bigger its resistance, the less speed the motor runs on first movements of pedal. For example, I had to increase it up to 1 MOhms, and the initial speed of the motor became about 1000 rpm. Maximal rpms remained to be the same, this resistor does not affect it.
Of cource one shoud do it on his own risk and must understand what and how to work with such a device. And never open the lid with the plug inserted in mains.
Do you know whats the name of the sliding machanism?
Please let me know what it is if you do.
@@Zzzzzzzzz678 that’s a linear potentiometer
Great comment! Thank you. I'm thinking of using this style pedal for my Thompson walking foot machine but I'm worried that it won't work.
muchas gracias Dios la bendiga siempre
Life saver
Great video
For these electronic foot pedals, does it matter which wire is positive and which is negative if I were to hard-wire it?
Hi...you could break the fuse when removing it that way. Try a narrower blade screw driver on one of the ends.
You are right, it can break, especially if it has never been taken out
Hi Tanks so much for the demo....is the same pedal used with SINGER 6180 machine?, if not, can you kindly show us the foot pedal of the SINGER 6180 machine.
Thanks
Yes, the pedal looks like. But you don't need to repair it yourself. This is dangerous, contact a specialist workshop.
Thanks ! my machine´s pedal contains only a variable resistance, a track plate, not a rheostat, i mean, it's the simplest thing ever and i guess i might replace it with just a fader, that slider variable resistance component... what i'd like to know is the value it has to be considering it's 220v ( i guess ), thanks !
Yes, 220 volts, your fader will burn like a match. No need to look for other solutions that engineers came up with. Is it dangerous. Better buy a new pedal.
Are these a viable replacement for the carbon pile old-style pedals?
yo tengo de ese pedal pero se me cayó y ahora cose lento a que se debe mucho agradeceré su ayuda
Dicho pedal tiene un controlador de velocidad, pero debe comunicarse con un reparador de máquinas de coser
So, desolder everything except the slide pot, mount a stereo audio jack in the hole where a wire comes out with wires going to the pot, and use it as a synth pedal?
Thanks, funny but stupid
Thank you for this video. Can you please advise what lubricant is used on the sliding mechanism? Is it some sort of silicone-based product?
Yes, maybe, I don't know for sure.
Do you know How to repair a Singer brilliance Power board? I need to change one pieces, but i can't find a good pictures with instructions.😥
I'm sorry but there is no.

How much current does it use per hour
He doesn't use. Uses a motor, usually 80 - 90 watts, about the same as a light bulb in your usual lamp
Thank you so much

Mine has no fuse, two extra yellow 250v bricks
There's a fairly good explanation of how these work here:

The one you have here has a little more filtering (mostly back EMF suppression), but it's fundamentally identical to a dimmer switch. Quite easy to repair actually.
Is this a 250 volt unit?
This one, yes, but what does it matter. The principle of operation is the same for all.
Foot pedal k parts ka sorder kahan hoga
My singer Merritt electric sewing Machine is running without pressing pedal.please let me know how to repair it by myself.... rply me please
There are many reasons, contact the master
Thé same problem with me?
