- LEARN KIKONGO | LEARN THE PRONOUNS IN KIKONGO | Lesson 3
Hello Family!
You guys know I have always been passionate about showcasing the amazing culture that Congo has and this video is another step forward to achieving that goal. In today’s video, I teach you how to say the pronouns in KIKONGO! I have this, together with future videos, will help you construct sentences in Kikongo. Kikongo was an official Language spoken in the Kongo Kingdom, which was a Kingdom made of Angola, The Republic of Congo, and The Democratic Republic of Congo way before the colonial era. After the countries separated, they developed their own versions of the Language. Hence, the version of Kikongo spoken in the DRC is different to the ones spoken in The Republic of Congo and in Angola. I encourage you to learn more about the Kongo Kingdom when you can. Also, I hope you enjoy this video/Lesson; and please Like, Share and Subscribe to the channel for more exciting videos! Enjoy Bana Mboka (Lingala for Homeboys/Homegirls)!!
DISCLAIMER
I am not a professional Kikongo teacher, so the Kikongo I teach you is almost purely-informal and experience-based because I grew up speaking it. I will never knowingly lead you guys astray, but please always feel free to research further and back up what you learn here with other sources when necessary.

Amem! Finally I found someone to teach me my mother’s language ❤️
I'm so excited to learn the language of my grandmother
It's almost the same in Congo Brazzaville.
-Munu, Ngué,yandi, Béto, Béno, Bawu
All languages spoken by Kongo tribes are versions of Kikongo.
i.e: Kikongo-Bémbé, Kikongo-Kugni, Kikongo-Manianga, Kikongo-yombé ... In Congo Brazzaville we also speak the real Kikongo that our ancestors spoke.
Kituba is a creole.
I love your videos even though I speak Kituba very well.
Oh cool! Thank you for sharing that information and for your encouragement. I appreciate it 🇨🇩🇨🇬
@NeKongo Those from the Kongo tribe of Boko (Congo Brazza) speak the real one. The rest speak languages derived from the Kikongo as I said earlier .
@NeKongo Those from the Kongo tribe of Boko in Congo Brazzaville speak the real one. The rest speak languages derived from the Kikongo as I said earlier.
@NeKongo the name of the language is Kongo, even the tribe is named Kongo and Boko is their village. Now among all derived versions of Kikongo spoken in Congo Brazza, the Dondo language is the closest to the real Kikongo. You can listen to some Kilombo songs to check out if what I'm saying is true.
@NeKongo I think all of us don't speak this language because each Kongo tribe has its own version of Kikongo. We are divided, each one is in his community speaking his language. The Kituba language which is a Kongo Creole mixed with French has destroyed our knowledge of Kongo's languages here in Congo.
I am Kugni and I don't even speak my language.
Thanks, I appreciate this lesson. I want to encourage you to continue teaching us. We in the diaspora really want to know our loss languages.
Oh it’s a pleasure. I’m so glad it can help even in a small way. Thank you for watching.
Mono-mina
Beno-wena
Bawu-bona
Words I find similar in isiZulu
Matondo mpangi Féli. This will help my grandkids to learn kikongo. Cool
You are welcome!! 😊
please teach us more..
Hello, You looks smart and well educated and aslo pretty...
Thank you
❤🎉❤
Lovely , Beto na beto
Just started to learn kikongo and found Your great channel! Will defenitely follow it! Please keep posting! Best greetings from Armenia!
Welcome to the family! 🙌🏾
@@CongoTalks243 Thank You so much!
Grateful for this channel! Trying to get back to my roots
Very impressive, Feli! I enjoyed it.
Mike Wohks Thank youu! Glad you enjoyed 😅
Matondo 😀
masokox93 Pleasure 🙌🏾
In Kongo writing system MANDOMBE, the consonants are named MVUALA and the vowels are BISIMBA. In Kikongo every consonant is followed by a vowel. There very few words where a consonant is followed by another, like in (MB)ANZA KO(NG)O to create a nosal sounds named KINZUNU
Thank you so much ! :D I really want to learn kikongo.
I think that it'll be super helpful to contextualise some of your lessons, for instance here, tells us how and when the pronouns are used, so we already have an idea of their constructions (with verbs, nouns, etc.) while learning it.
Pleasure is all mine! Thank you for watch and for your insight. I’ll definitely try to contextualise the future lessons 🙌🏾
Very interesting. I’ve recently learned I have some Congolese ancestry. So I was a little interested in the language.
I like the way you show how to make the sounds. Because you don’t find that nasal n in American English.
What do you mean by pronouncing it in front of a consonant?
How different are the different versions of Kikongo? ARe they versions ofthe samelanguage, dialects or separate languages?
They’re versions of the same language. The difference really depends on where you are. I find the Angolan version hard to understand as a Congolese from DRC for instance.
@@CongoTalks243, you will find these differences even in the same country. We speak the Bantu language of Karanga (Shona). The language has regional variations from eastern Botswana to coastal Mozambique.
Angolan kikongo is different:
We-yeto
They- yawu
Interesting to see the difference! Thanks for sharing.
Us = Yisu (ChiKaranga)
They = Yiwo.
us= yeto
they = yau
Bau
I refuse to be a Mukongo who doesn’t know that the word “Mbote” is in Kikongo 😂
Hello!
I'm looking to translate these two words in DRC Kikongo:
Stop! Come Back!
Can you help me, please? Thank you!
Stop/ Telema, Nsuka, Mfoko
Come back/ Vutuka, Manima
@@almeidasamo8765 Thank you so much! I can use either of those to make the whole phrase, correct? Example: Telema! Manima!
@@laurafranco2942 You should say "Kanga! Vutuka!" Those are the correct verbs. The other words are nouns: "nsuka" means the end and "manima" means the back (or rear) side.
@@RKupsala Thank you!
Stop : Telema , suka , sukisa, tika yambula
Come back : zonga ( zonga sima) in lingala ; vutuka ( vutuka ku manima) in Kiyaka ; Vutuka ( vutuka na nima) in official Kikongo
