    In the 70's I had a square port 454 with 4.88 gears, 850 Holley, Strip Dominator manifold, open headers and an unstreetable cam that ran 11.77 at 117 mph. Today you can get more power and better performance and still get power windows and air conditioning.

    VIR :
    Stingray Z51 - 2:52
    GT-R R35 - 2:53.
    the Track pack is the highest performance version of the GT-R and you have to compare it to the BASE corvette for it to win. Pretty sad.

    in-SANE! Watching this car smoke the Michelins through the whole corner and torque steer its rear tires under acceleration. That just shows how truly impressive the Corvette lineup is. Any one of them performs at a level most will never experience.

    Just returned from a one-week road trip through Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana in a Corvette. Its over 430 horse powers made the trip a memory for life. Thanks, Chevy, for making this car. I now dream of buying a 1982 Collector's Edition. Anyone who knows if that is a good or bad idea? (I know it only has 200 hp).

    :28 was easily the best shot I have ever seen of the ZR1 that shows the true brute power of the LS9 and how the engineering of the Vette's drivetrain, chassis, and suspension help deliver that power to the pavement.

    Funny thing is the Cadillac Catera's had this back in 1996-2001, when they came out with them but it wasn't called PTM, they named it something else then, and it also had Winter/Snow traction control... I miss my Catera. :(

    As far as I'm concerned, the Corvette ZR1 and the 911 GT2 RS are some of the ballsiest cars you can get from a major automaker. 600+ hp, wide-ass tires, and a goddam 6-speed manual!

    @SES10M I don't think GM has released any information on what the 2015 (the C8) Corvette is going to be. All I've heard is that the C7, the next one, is going to be a moderate update to the Corvette, and then the C8 has the goal of dominating the world. I heard something about them considering a mid (not rear) engine configuration. Some have speculated that a hot V6 may take the entry-level position but I don't think that's come from anyone within the company.

  • @JelyVids
    @JelyVids 13 років тому

    @liljon3 what you do is swing the back of the of the car out while engaging the throttle and the tires wont be able to grip because of the torque. You really have to be an experienced driver most of all to not oversteer or understeer or else you will go in the ditch. Its really hard to do it with a car that isnt powerful cause you really want those tires to spin. Only possible in rear wheel drive cars. Its easier in the rain but u wont get smoke, thats what they do in movies if u watch closely.

    Nevertheless... ZR1 IS a special car. The exhaust note can be noticed with your eyes closed... And special skill is needed to fully control your car (shown by chevy giving free lesson with ron fellows).. I want to buy a on of GT-R's successor in the future, but if a corvette is available in my country at that time, i definitely will try to buy both.

    @Janusha You are not expected to like everything, but you are also not expected to comment about everything either. Just because something is rattling around in your head doesn't mean that anyone cares to read it or hear it. If you don't like something, the mature thing is to avoid it and not throw out baseless comments to creat a hostile environment. Walk out and just start sharing your opinions with everyone and see how far that takes you.

  • @JETZcorp
    @JETZcorp 13 років тому

    @Janusha It has lower quality than any other car at that price point, I'll give you that. But it is also faster than any other car at that price point. To increase quality they'd have to either raise the price, or lower the performance. The ZR1 is made for people who place a higher priority on performance over build quality and lavish interiors. I once went to Porsche's site and made a Carrera the way I'd have it. Came to 95K. On that price point, you could get a Corvette Z06 AND a Focus.

    That's a slippery surface, even the 2012 GT-R smoked all 4 tires at launch on the same exact strip. It crushed the ZR1 in the 1/4 mile by 0.6 seconds though. The 2012 GT-R has also gotten 0-60 as low as 2.7, and it got a 3.1 second 0-60 on this slippery strip.

    eh, I guess its all preference. If you want a nice looking luxurious/sport car, there is no denying that the Euro cars are superior, however if you want an all out powerhouse and a good bang for the buck, its all about the vette. Track and lap times prove it. For me the vette is simply better because I couldn't care less about interior, I just like cruising on the the freeway and kicking ass, and I believe the vette is the best for doing so.

    @Janusha The problem with a Harley is that it doesn't have the performance of sport bikes, which makes sense because they make cruisers.
    As for all those things you named, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS doesn't have hardly any of that. No active aero, plain old aluminum chassis, good old six-speed manual. It's just plain and simple mechanical performance, and yet it gets respect from everybody. And who said a 'Vette was less capable? Porsche only have one car that's faster, and it's less practical.

    @Janusha I never said they were the way of the furutre plus because of fuel prices in all of those other countries and tax on displacement, they were forced to change the way they do things. They are a product of their environment. How did the first Hybrids work out when gas prices were low? Terrible because they were not necessary.
    The 2012 ZR1 run is all over YT. Go watch the video and enjoy. Based on some of the comments, you may lack the skill to find it.

    @Shockwawe1994. GM did make a "family" car if that's what you want. The Cadillac CTS-V. That car is sick. The worlds fastest production 4 door. Faster around the Nurburgring Nordschleife than a BMW M5 or a Mercedes Benz E63.
    I'd love one, and this is coming from a BMW 1M owner.

    @JMAHER1523 You need to take into consideration that there are plenty of factors and if you actually look on the Edmunds website you'll see what I'm talking about. Elevation, surface, air temperature, condition of the tires (May have been ragged on by a previous journalist) and the fact that the official times provided by the manufacturer are sometimes a bit optimistic. The same exact car tested in Death Valley will perform different than if tested on the East coast.

    @Poptartza And the Zo6 Carbon for 2012 got the GT-R beat by 2 second, and the Zr1 beat it by 5 seconds. Also Zr1 is the 7th fastest car to run on Nurburgring, and the fastest FR car to ever run on Nurburgring. And Zo6 Carbon is the 3rd fastest FR car and the 9th fastest car. Both are 2012, both had only one upgrade, Pilot sport cup tires. Much better racing tires, but more expensive, expect the price to go up a bit. Also 2012 is the last year for Corvette C6 generation!
