Having owned a C5 ZO6 and driven a few C6 ZO6s on track… my consensus is they can be phenomenal on track, however…they will not take it out of the box so to say. Heat issues will always be there, even with stock power. Doesn’t take a whole lot to get that under control though, especially with the C6. They also benefit hugely from, at a minimum, different shocks/dampers. And although it does have independent rear suspension, it uses a transverse leaf spring front and rear that kind of “connects” one side of the car to the other, so if you hit a bump or curb with one side, it will transfer some of that energy. Not ideal, but even the C5/6R race cars used the leaf springs with great success. All in all, fantastically fun cars but if you want it for serious track duty, budget for some durability mods before anything else. That, plus some relatively minor suspension tweaks and it’ll be one of the fastest and best sounding cars out there. Love the content!
Unfortunately, if you're going to flog a C6Z on a racetrack, you really need cooling mods before adding any horsepower. Also the clutch master cylinders in these things aren't very good from the factory, if you have headers, your clutch pedal will get mushy and it won't shift very nicely. I put a Tilton clutch cylinder in mine and I can shift in about 0.25 seconds up at 7500 rpm. Hopefully someday someone brings you one that's well sorted for the racetrack. I think this car is set up adequately for the average enthusiast, but when someone like Misha hops in and really pushes it to the limit, that's when the issues show up.
100%. Doing that on my z06 currently. Lot of potential, everyone spends money on a heads, cam, header package when it should be going into coilovers, seats, and cooling
If the car is stock power (or just like headers), then cooling is not a problem. I used to track c6z06 at the ring, i only had headers and never had cooling issues. Clutch issue is another problem, u have to flush the clutch fluid frequently, it gets dirty quick and causes sticky clutch. The big item c6z06 needs at the ring is coilovers and gt3 aero. There used to a guy there (Dennis), who tracked one with gt3 aero, coilovers, semi slicks, stock power levels and he did 7:05 btg.
@misha, i am currently building out my z06 and i am planning to send it out to EU to do a roadtrip from London to Belgrade. I plan on doing a pit stop at the ring for a few days. Happy to let you drive it. Engine is stock, all the $ mods went into coilovers, cooling, seats, upgrading brakes, steering, and removing 100 kilos out of the car
It's so cool to see people from all over europe come to you and even if they dont speak english that well they still try their hardest and it's always so wholesome, this community is great!
Those cars are sick! Takes a good driver to reach anywhere near its potential, especially after upgrading heads/cam. You have about 650hp pushing 3100lbs/1400kg. If I remember right that car held the Nurburgring track record for its category at some point.
these cars are very fast and quite easy to get 650-700hp (crank) out of with NA mods, but cooling must be upgraded, better oil coolers, better radiator, better brakes++ I Had my c6z at Apex a couple of years ago Misha. but it still needed some more suspension mods to feel great. i think you would like a better sorted car alot :) For me as a rookie, my 600whp c6z was probably more than i needed :D
Ah yes, this is one thing I don't miss about my C6 Z06, that transmission tunnel. What little insulation there is behind the carpet falls down and then you're just a few inches away from the metal of the transmission tunnel, which is fantastic at blasting heat into the cabin. I put extra insulation behind the carpet and I put all the insulation on the underside of the car in the trans tunnel that I could possibly add. I was acceptable at that point.
The C6Z06 is one of the last pure American sportscars with the big 427 NA engine and 6spd manual. Such a great car with so much character. Hate you had issues with this one, hope you can give it another go once its a little more sorted or possibly another one. LOVE the sound of that thing.
The power was increased by approx. 100 hp, so I think the overheating may be less of an issue with the original 505 hp / 512PS, at least with original cooling.
@@mitchellsteindler Surprisingly not. LS7s that "only" make 600 hp have what in the US would be considered a small cam. Also, the air intake manifold, headers, intake piping, and exhaust allone were probably worth 60 hp as well. Big cam LS7 cars are north of 700 hp but those are a lot more difficult to drive legally in Europe (not sure about Italy, but I assume it is similar to Germany and Austria where we can only get away with small cams when passing the emissions tests).
@@big-Rconsider the chopping and msd intake and intake, I think he makes at least 550 on the wheel. I assume he has ported heads and high flow header, I think it is very possible he sits at 600 wheel. But most intake on the market will suck away air that should go into the radiator.
Vettes all have overheating issues, most guys in the states just add a small methanol injection kit to keep IATs down on the track, idk how easy it is to get methanol overseas though. Fenders with heat extractors and hood vents help a lot too to get stale air out. Better placement of the trans and oil cooler are also a must on the C5 and C6 imo, upgrading while you're at it is worth every penny.
maybe reach out to LG Motorsports (Louis Gigliotti), they drop by the Ring every so often for testing of their C6s and theirs are much more suited to track use than this. Would really love to see yall hit the track with a properly prepped C6, AP brakes and GSpeed/LG suspension components help a ton
The C6 Z06 was also my dream car when I was about to drive the first years. Great to see it on the track. Nice gear ratio and incredible to handshift such a high powered car. Today you may only have automatic left in such power areas....
By far one of my favorite episodes. It shows how cars no matter how much you pour into them will always test your patience when you want to completely go ape shit with it on the track 😂 great video!
Heat, living if Florida, is one of reasons I prefer the C6 Grand Sport with the 6.2l over the 7.0l. The GS has all of the mods the Zo6 has minus the 7.0l. Less weight on the front is a bonus! Mine had 540/580 with just a few mild mods and, I ran 30 minute sessions at Sebring without over heating with 90+ degree weather. But, I must say, that thing is a beast! BTW, C6 plastic suxs! I had the seat back break under acceleration on mine! Chevy replaced it but, it was not a good thing!
ah but that LS7 with its titanium rods... a work of art in chevy terms:) but i agree... forced induction even the zr1 went with your block i think. probably thicker cylinder liners improving rigidity or thats my guess
ZO6 LS7 engine would weigh the same or less than an LS3 and the Z06 is aluminium chassis which is 50kg lighter than the Grand Sport steel frame. There are pro's and con's of each model but the Z06 wins hands down on the weight front.
-Needs a DeWitts radiator with G-speed brushless big single Spal fan. Or Prospeed dual Spal brushless fan set up. -Needs Giro disc 2 piece floating rotors if on a budget and running stock calipers. Many people will switch out the calipers to for harder track abuse like this. If the budget isn't an issue you want AP Racing full front brake kit. - For the suspension you want at the very least a Johnny O'Connell stage 1 kit with the bigger stiffer sway bars. Adjustable rear. End links. Comes with tuned shock dampers too. Or if the budget is a bit more just get the sway bars separately. Ditch the leaf springs for a coilover kit setup. The car will feel completely different & inspire way more confidence. Would love to see Misha in a proper set up C6 with the above simple mods.
Z06 cooling issues are unfortunately nothing new. I'd imagine it's probably less of an issue without mods, as I haven't seen too many complaints about it. The C7 Z06 on the other hand is infamous for it, so much so that they heavily overcompensated with the C8 Z06. I think you'll be pleased to know the C8 Z06 was designed to be able to run at the track all day long with the AC on and no heatsoak, which has been corroborated by track tests of the car. Significant quality control improvement should also prevent any more loose plastic pieces, lol. Love to see corvette content even when it doesn't always work out.
@@Syncopia Really all it needs are tires and some coils, with the stock setup overheating isn't generally an issue like this, although a cooler wouldn't be wasted
That was a hell of driving. 👍🙂 The power and noise is absolutely amazing but it is quite surprising that Z06 is not more a track car. Anyway it was one of the videos which made me write a comment. 🤗
The car was modded in various ways. Who knows how well the parts selection and tuning was done. I suspect that plastic cover coming down may have had something to do with some of the work at some point.
One Very cool fact about this car is that from any other Corvette, it's back bumper or the whole back,it seems to be the smallest(in my opinion) and it's front is ginormous. Of course it's because it's American power(extremely big blocks or engines whatever) and I can say that because when I first saw it, I got amazed(of course because it's a very cool car) and because I hadn't seen it before then, I just couldn't think what car it was and If you don't believe it or not, If you see it for the first time,to your eyes, will seem such a giant car, but it's engine size, trolls you. Endly that was such a good lap!!!
It was painful to watch! To many needless gear changes like it was a Honda. He only needed 3rd and 4th for the most part, changing into 1st gear at times made no sense at all.
@@WeirdBrick that's because that gearbox has has so long ratios that you need to get used to it. Annoying af especially on track. On higher gears it just wouldn't go like you'd expect it
@@WeirdBrickWith those tall gears he probably needed second at times too but I was thinking the same, way too much torque to need to shift like a little 4 banger requires. But being new to it I don’t blame him and with how hot it seemed in the cabin maybe it was just hard to think/focus
Cooling issues aside from a daily driver that was meant to deliver good wind tunnel results and fuel economy, the lap Misha laid down was a testament to the basic car's suspension/chassis prowess. Time and again I hear about "coilover" improvements but no one who has switched to coilovers on the C5 or C6 platform has documented actual handling improvements. The transverse leaf was a core design ingredient that provided enough competitive advantages to best cars costing more than twice as much (ie. Ferrari 458) on the track. For heavy, maximum output track use, the C5 and C6 platform would benefit greatly from improved airflow management through the front spoiler and through added hood vents. Oil coolers mounted behind the spoiler, upgraded radiators, and racing oil are an absolute must for this type of torture test use - stuff that was never contemplated in the original $50k "daily driver" GM brought to market.
Misha, I don't know how to get my C6 Z06 to the ring from the US, but I am putting a new engine in mine that is going to be making over 700hp NA. I would love to tour Europe with it and when I do I'll put a set of Nankang AR1s on it for you to have a go.
I love a nice C5! I'm from USA and people mostly think of them as Drag Race cars. People dont have any idea how well they have done in Le Mans and road road racing, etc....
The race version maybe but a race car is not only a big engine. Stock version is not very efficient on this track... Overheating problem, brakes... Slow gearbox 😮 and overtaken by BMW with less half of the power... 😂 yes we have no idea. But it's a nice car
Many(MANY) years ago....had a 1968 Firebird 400 H.O. 4MT, that was highly modded....had an incident where an adult beverage bottle got under the brake pedal at an inopportune time....I stomped the pedal hard enough to break the bottle and NOT crash, badly.....lol I still have nightmares about that one...o_0
It's common in C6 owners (who track their car regularly) to swap out the stock radiator with a much larger aftermarket option and change out the thermostat to a lower temp range plus retune the fan controller so they turn on at a lower temp. The LS engines run hot and remain hot with sustained high rpm driving, which is their only downfall as after the right cooling upgrades along with some valve train upgrades, they can handle much higher rpms than the 7k of the LS7. Many LS builders that stay NA go for a redline somewhere between 7200 all the way to 9000 depending on the build purpose and budget. Loved this video as I too own a C6 (manual grand sport)!!!
Presumably a lower temp thermostat is only going to affect warm-up and and town driving ... on the track it's surely going to be fully open all the time!
I love these cars. Nice shape, epic sound. I considered to buy one of this or a mustang mach1. I like them so much but they just have to much flaws to really be an option…at some point I couldnt sugercoat this any longer so I dont consider them anymore. I havent bought „the“ car yet but i know now it will not be an american power one 😢. Still love to see snd hear them. 👍
Ahh the memories. Is the speedometer off or does it have a different 3rd and 4th gear or final drive? Mine went up to 250 in 4th gear, according to the speedometer. First and second gears matched normal values for these cars (1st gear 100 km/h, 2nd gear 160 km/h).
It’s a shame Misha didn’t ride that torque low down, instead he drove it like a Honda changing gear about 3 times more than he needed to! Bizarre as he’s usually right on it!
Depends! When braking and turning at the same time, it makes the car understeer. Or completely go straight. You don't want that... Especially not there!
@@mgcharoudin Also true. I had some moments with my Jazz (that you droven when it was still stock earlier this year) were people wanted to pass me Into corners, but Just stayed beside me way to long, so my car just got way to unstable because i had to reduce my speed way to much in corner.
First, the brake pedal did not fail. The hush panel (or lower dash panel) failed. Second, I agree with @car_pal, the C6 does not have a solid rear axle. And third, any car that has not been properly modified or prepared will have some issues.
C6 Z06 Corvettes are rock solid cars, but only Stock, with just a aftermarket Exhaust system, there is no point reving it up to 7.000 rpm, maximum power and torque already at 6200 rpm. Mischa is a good driver but does not know the Z06 C6 very well, thats a fact. A Proud C6 Z06 owner👍
These things actually get better fuel economy than most other performace cars. Even with like 200hp less (at least when it comes to freeway crusing in 6th gear)
Thanks for showing the oil temperature, over course of one lap. Heat issue is a thing, made once 4 laps all after each other with no heat issues though. But weather was quite cold outside, has a huge effect for sure.
I've seen a C6 with AP brakes, Ohlins TTX, and better cooling mods and was going very well and reliably too. It also had a sequential box fitted at a later date and was even more savage then. Shame not very common in the UK due to being left hand drive but im moving to Dubai in a few months and will be getting one there.
Independent rear Misha, but Corvette uses a traverse leaf and independent dampers... very simple to, and completely transforms the rear road holding, when you swap out to a rear coilover.... it's a simple bolt in swap. For the Ring, she needs a square wheel and tire setup (F-10.5 315/R-10.5-11 315 ), better trans and oil coolers, Tick or MGW shifter, pads, fluid. Done, unless you want some aero, which there's plenty available from mild to wild, including chassis mount stanchions for rear wings from some random company called Vulcan Alpha 🤔😅 That, plus a simple set of seats and small Trackspec Trackday 4-point bolt in roll bar and belts and you're good to go 👌🏻
With a car that has that much torque and a 7L Engine, you don't really need to downshift to 2nd especially as you are not used to the pedals position, you just power up in 3rd and the car will fly out of corners.
Quite impressive how you manage the situation, i bet when you felt the pedal get stuck your heart sinked. Its amazing how its all without traction control.
First, I love this engine. I know the LS7 inside and out. My dad and I built a 68 Camaro with an LS7 crate engine which was modified a lot like the one in the video. It’s the epitome of American muscle. Big displacement and lots of torque with high RPM power to match. I think the cooling system here just didn’t like the extra power. The trans tunnel heat is something that is sadly typical of Corvettes, and mods only make more heat. It’s worth noting that they built some of these with the carbon brakes off of the ZR1 at the tail end of this generation. The stock brakes were relatively big in 2006, but sports car brakes have moved on since then.

@@SelimxBradleyThat's what I thought. I saw in another comment Misha replied to and said he meant to say leaf springs instead of solid axle.

I love it when an engine sounds just as good coming down in revs during a shift as it does building them at full power! Cool video!
Has similar specs to a 458 and you can get a well maintained one for under 50k. Perfect achievable dream car
What a monster, still insane even today 😍😍
6:51 I literally just got the concept of heel-toe downshifting, from this part. Random but i couldn't help but watch and its perfect. To the sim rig!
@@sleserginekolog1 good to know . What oil temps did you normally see around the ring
@@ivanvujosevic289 shit man, that was 10 years ago…. Around 225/230f oil by the end of the lap. Normal is like 212f.
I was gonna say, the stock car always stayed cool for me but I only fixed the heads without putting in a more aggressive cam or anything like that.
Best screen setup ever, with the rev counters and the POV of the lap (oil temp was a bonus too). Keep it like this for all videos!
12:02 bottom right part - just so good 🙌
we need to see more of that e46 :)
Great lap, the C6 Z06 is a legend, my favorite vette for sure.
Love how Misha was able to understand what the owner was saying and finishing the sentences for him 😂
Those cars are sick! Takes a good driver to reach anywhere near its potential, especially after upgrading heads/cam. You have about 650hp pushing 3100lbs/1400kg. If I remember right that car held the Nurburgring track record for its category at some point.
these cars are very fast and quite easy to get 650-700hp (crank) out of with NA mods, but cooling must be upgraded, better oil coolers, better radiator, better brakes++
I Had my c6z at Apex a couple of years ago Misha. but it still needed some more suspension mods to feel great. i think you would like a better sorted car alot :) For me as a rookie, my 600whp c6z was probably more than i needed :D
It doesn't overheat if you push it the american way, 400m by 400m
this car was NEVER intended to be a drag race car. NEVER.@@Kamui..
I didn't told that. @@ssnerd583
I had a build C4 and it used to burn my heel it would get so hot
The C6Z06 is one of the last pure American sportscars with the big 427 NA engine and 6spd manual. Such a great car with so much character. Hate you had issues with this one, hope you can give it another go once its a little more sorted or possibly another one. LOVE the sound of that thing.
you can still buy new american sportscars with v8's and manual...
Hahaha the first thing owner ask after removing tha plastic part « but do you like the car? » 😂
8:31 heel toe was smoooth…love these vettes
The power was increased by approx. 100 hp, so I think the overheating may be less of an issue with the original 505 hp / 512PS, at least with original cooling.
Must have a serious cam in there
@@mitchellsteindler Surprisingly not.
Yes. With those modes he needs to ceramic coat or wrap the headers and X-Pipe
The speedometer works exactly as my car's tachometer 😂
The C6 Z06 was also my dream car when I was about to drive the first years. Great to see it on the track. Nice gear ratio and incredible to handshift such a high powered car. Today you may only have automatic left in such power areas....
By far one of my favorite episodes. It shows how cars no matter how much you pour into them will always test your patience when you want to completely go ape shit with it on the track 😂 great video!
You need to try ones of these but with magnetic suspension (Z07 package) or a C6 ZR1. It drives way better with it.
You can see the bit of plastic drop down on the brake pedal at 4:42, just over the bump. Scary stuff, especially at that part of the track.
The coolest Corvette ever built! It simply looks amazing! And the GIANT engine is just 👌
Heat, living if Florida, is one of reasons I prefer the C6 Grand Sport with the 6.2l over the 7.0l.
Weight difference? The block is the same architecture they weight almost identical it’s a 6.2 VS 7.0 but the block is same architecture
I love it when they're european and calm and not over the top American or English making a fuss for more clicks
Having a personality isn’t a bad thing
Making a fuss for more clicks? I think they are just being themselves.
I can feel the muscle and freedom air
I think stock c6 z06 z07 could perform better .
Took them way too many generations to sort it out. The c6 needs so much work to be track worthy.
@@Syncopia Really all it needs are tires and some coils, with the stock setup overheating isn't generally an issue like this, although a cooler wouldn't be wasted
The C6 is such a good looking car, even in the more aggressive Z06 n ZR1 trims.
That was a hell of driving. 👍🙂 The power and noise is absolutely amazing but it is quite surprising that Z06 is not more a track car. Anyway it was one of the videos which made me write a comment. 🤗

@@mgcharoudin Was the exhaust back to the rear axle ceramic coated ?
Car seems like a struggle.. That was the least smooth lap i've ever seen you drive Misha.. ❤😢
On higher gears it just wouldn't go like you'd expect it
The torque curve for modified cam profile might not match the gear box.
One thing you need to know about American cars is that you have to drive them like you stole them.
Poor quality car but, raw sound and insane acceleration, realy emotional car. Thanks for sharing Misha
This is what is ALL about. Who cares if the car is not the fastest around the ring. The sound and emotion is what realy is worth it in the end
What a car! what a sound! and the speed!!!
Misha really has balls of steel, respect.
Hey no brakes, a few seconds later put the gas pedal to the metal 😂😂😂👍💪
Misha, I don't know how to get my C6 Z06 to the ring from the US, but I am putting a new engine in mine that is going to be making over 700hp NA. I would love to tour Europe with it and when I do I'll put a set of Nankang AR1s on it for you to have a go.
Pls reach out to me when it happens!

Wow the oil temperature rise was phenomenal 😂
The rear quad taillight will forever be my love for the c6 gen Corvette
Any modded cars need to be inspected to show they have oil coolers installed. The oil temp just kept climbing
Nah man
If he only drives cars with oil coolers = serious track cars only = less fun and variety
"Shitboxes" are often the most fun to watch
@@enfantterrible4868 How an oil cooler makes it less fun? It's just a mod to keep the car reliable. Lots of factory cars have them.

This brutal power and this great torque is simply a dream for the race track *...*
It’s a shame Misha didn’t ride that torque low down, instead he drove it like a Honda changing gear about 3 times more than he needed to!
Bizarre as he’s usually right on it!
That BowTie sounds crisp n goes lovely 👍👍😎
I mean a stuck brake pedal is better than no brake pedal 🤷♂

Sounds about right haha
I've seen a C6 with AP brakes, Ohlins TTX, and better cooling mods and was going very well and reliably too. It also had a sequential box fitted at a later date and was even more savage then. Shame not very common in the UK due to being left hand drive but im moving to Dubai in a few months and will be getting one there.
I’d be embarrassed that car wasn’t ready
Independent rear Misha, but Corvette uses a traverse leaf and independent dampers... very simple to, and completely transforms the rear road holding, when you swap out to a rear coilover.... it's a simple bolt in swap.
For the Ring, she needs a square wheel and tire setup (F-10.5 315/R-10.5-11 315 ), better trans and oil coolers, Tick or MGW shifter, pads, fluid. Done, unless you want some aero, which there's plenty available from mild to wild, including chassis mount stanchions for rear wings from some random company called Vulcan Alpha 🤔😅
That, plus a simple set of seats and small Trackspec Trackday 4-point bolt in roll bar and belts and you're good to go 👌🏻
Oke? Oke.
The C6 ZO6 is IMO the best vette. Have ridden in 5,6 and 7. I’d take the C6Z6 all day
Pratt & Miller C6.R, is a Legend of Racing
With a car that has that much torque and a 7L Engine, you don't really need to downshift to 2nd especially as you are not used to the pedals position, you just power up in 3rd and the car will fly out of corners.
Good find on the brake problem.

Oh nice! The C6 is the most beautiful Corvette IMO!

c6 zo6: 7.0 427 cubic inch push rod v8 making 505hp bone stock. 6 speed tremec transmission, 3200 pound curb weight. an absolute monster of a vehicle
Paddle shifters. Yes you can install them on a manual trans. I would recommend.
C6 Z06 is an alltime great. lightweight, high revving v8, and fantastic performance
