The Porsche Flat six is very reliable. Over the years Porsche has upgraded and strengthen the block to handle the increased demands expected of it year after year. But in a battle of reliability, the Ls V8 has almost everything beat in the performance sector. So reliable is the Ls that it is the engine of choice for almost every project. Including airplanes, where engine are truly put through extreme abuse. The LS is a marvel of reliability that should not be underestimated.
No. C6 Z06 and ZR1 would still kill it. Chevy says the new ones faster because they want to sell it. A used C6 Z06 for 35,000 is the best bargain on the planet.
thats some really profound stuff man.....you should write a book. Maybe put something in there about how people who say something that turns out to be false end up calling the person who proved them wrong "mentally challenged"
no.. the intercooler sits on top of the supercharger. what you're seeing through the glass is indeed the intercooler. also, it's not a plastic engine cover like most people think. that is the actual aluminum intercooler we're looking at, not some flashy cover.

Ivan Ascencio I thought boy too when he said 7k rpm was 2k more than ANY small block chevy should ever... 2nd gen LT1 would go 6k and I think but haven’t had or driven a first gen LT1 but pretty sure with solid lifters and high compression in 70 it will go 6k also let alone the 283 engines that can go 8k but whole different story although t is def a abc in every way.
Heading into 2013 my top 3 favorite 2door sport coupes 1) 2013 Viper SRT 2) 2013 Camaro ZL1 3) 2013 Toyota FR-S. The Viper just looks fresh and sounds great. The ZL1 is just a all around success and the FRS will be a highly favored tuner car in the upcoming years. I truely love the Corvette but performance was not the issue, its interior design needs work and I want to see some new creative lines with the body. Dont get me wrong the ZR1 and Z06 are monsters.
This video is useless. The only complaints you have are the seats? I'd rather have functional shit over pretty shit inside my interior that's only going to fall apart like Nissan's cars. You were absolutely wrong about the C7. 6.2L V8. And you're driving the automatic. Stop making videos.
+no horizon people are ignorant, they got stuck on the 60s thought...when automatic transmission were horrible.... but now the technology has improved drastically to even have a 10 speed automatic transmission on a 2017 Ford raptor...
3:54 hell ya I had a 327 in a 68 Impala bear all kinds of 5.0 fox, iroc, gta, tpi vette on the hwy lol but when LT1 went 6k in my grandpa’s 95 TA, I thought damn, but honestly it falls off around 5200 in the auto but does help to rev to 6k before shifting to stay in the pwr but 7k they didn’t use to do. Love it. I thought it sucked the ZR1 wasn’t a 7.0 s/c A guy can dream
Sanic stop giving me numbers give me revies from both sides. I know the c7 is good at handling and interior but in its look I prefer the c6. btw it reached above 350 kilometers
Speed love you can stay in the cave but there's a reason why c6 did not sell well. Its got-old-very-quickly exterior and worse than camry interior over its years. The C7 brought back the sales in unit on track.
golferchin76 I agree. The C7 is the car all the limp wrists wanted. More expensive junk that doesn't have anything to do with performance. Extra electronics to break. Super duper extremely ugly (which means stylish and fashionable). Terrible visibility. Direct injection to clog up. All the bad that non-corvette buyers wanted that would normally buy a luxury car. Also the C7 is ugly. Did I mention 3 times that the C7 is ugly as hell? Because it's ugly.
Hahaha! But you were wrong about the new Z06 and Stingray, Sir! They do not look the same at all nor does it have the same feel. I should know, I live in Bowling Green, KY where the Stingrays and past prior Corvettes are/were made. I see the new C7s being shipped out by the hand full everyday. GM has done a great job on updating the the C7 Stingray!
I agree. The 991 S isn't as fast for the price(but still very fast), and you get the nicer interior. Corvette is stupid fast for the price, but the interior isn't as high-quality(but not bad). They're pro and cons,... some people just want performance and don't care about the interior, and vise versa. These car journalists don't seem to understand that...
To what extent are you referring? With a big cam, CNC heads, full exhaust, pulley you get about 660 BHP with a very rough idle, 630BHP with a smaller cam. If you go SC with a centri or twin screw you make about 690-730BHP~ with a good tune on 91. Wuth intake, cam, heads, SC intake on a LS9 you're making 750BHP without even touching the exhaust. Go 3" with 2" headers and you make nearly 800 for under 10K in. Or swap the SC with a bigger twin screw and make 900-1000bhp for
Ha! guess what? In hindsight the corvette totally changed for the 2014 model year. Total design change, more powerful, better handling, the works. Also the new ZR1 is coming up real soon. Always fun to hear the opinions of people from older videos
Yes, actually. I thrash my car around the track at least twice a week. I also go to drag strips, and I can tell you that in a drag race, milliseconds are even more important, simply because it's over so quickly to begin with. A gap of 0.3 seconds(11.6 vs 11.9)might seem small, but it's very significant. Do you know what people do to their cars in order to pick up 0.3secs on the track or the strip? Even manufacturers strip out their cars and put on semi-slicks just to pick up couple seconds.
That Z06 in the video cost $100,000. That's much more expensive than a Boxster. In fact, that's more expensive than a base 911, a car I would much rather have.
I feel like I need to get into automotive engineering. After they released the c7 I felt like the only way to make the Corvette mid-engine. Then I figured they would make a hybrid awd after that. After the hybrid awd it would only make sense to make a small displacement, high output exotic v8. Something that gm hadn't attempted at that point. I predicted a variable compression engine as well lol. Too late now though.
What everyone fails to mention in comparing the C6 Z06 to the upcoming C7 Z06 is the new one will weigh 3,600-3,700 lbs. Great car, no doubt, but too heavy. My '08 Z06 weighs 3,150 lbs. The new one will need that extra 100+ horsepower to overcome a quarter-ton of weight. I expect the C7 Z06 to run an 11.5 quarter mile as opposed to my 11.7.
I love you Mike for Loving the Vette and trying to get stuff done that I don't understand YET, because I haven't driven those models yet. I will still keep my honey and try to get Borlas for her and be happy I KNOW the beast!
I'll have to go with the Z06 because I couldn't afford to maintain a ZR1. Not to mention I'd never know the difference between the two as I'd never see a track and have enough common since not to push my luck in traffic...
question: this doesnt relate to anything, but i will be driving in a year or two, and my dad asked me if i want his 2004 bmw x5, or to lease a new car that is not as nice, like around 150$/month or less. which should i pick?
sounds good to me ! i'll definitely look out for that movie you just recommended to me. it's always good to broaden sources and widen ones perspective. if you felt offended than hereby i'm extending my hand and apologize for insensitivity on my part towards your personal sentiments.
I bought a grandsport last year mammoth supercharger. I own a lot of sport cars, and that Corvette is wicked! I have a 9 second supra, and me and my girlfriend took them out and raced, the only thing that supra saw was taillights
I know the 427 displacement has a lot of heritage at Chevy. 428 is typically thought of as a Ford displacement. However, engine displacements are rounded up routinely across the industry. The Ford Coyote 5.0 liter is technically a 4.951 liter engine. It IS an honest 302 cubic inches though :P
This one is. They started making hot rod stroker 427 sm blks back a long time ago. Then GM came out with this for the Vette. The ZO6 really is a nice looking car up close. You can tell the difference immeditly from the other vettes. Then a ZR1 looks one full step up further still. I just love the ZR1. Its so fucking beautiful.
ever heard "there is no replacement for displacement" ? the reason is because the bigger the engine, the better the power delivery. but don't let the 7 liters fool you. despite the massive displacement, the engine only weighs around 350lbs or 158 kg. that is amazing for a v8 let alone one that displaces 7 liters. also the engine is bullet proof. you can get great reliability and strap on whatever you want to it and it will go.
No, I'm talking about the M3 GTS offered by BMW as a street car. Stripped interior(including back seats, stereo and A/C taken out), half-cage, 444-450hp, titanium exhaust, racing suspension, semi-slick tires; the works. And for that, you paid about $180k+. But its acceleration #s were in base Corvette/Grand Sport territory, and even a base Z06(as in no Magneride or Sport Cup tires)has run faster track times(on the N'Ring, the 2005 Z is 5.10 secs faster). Z07-equipped, there'd be no contest.
The seats lean forward like that to keep them from being damaged when people move the seat back too far. It's in my C5 owners manual.
I was blessed to test drive a used 2006 Z06 in 2008 and it was by far the best driving experience I have ever had. But if money were no object I’d probably take the ZR1. At this point in my life I would be happy with ANY Corvette.

Cruise Dleifsnam chrome all the way
Wheels that look like brake dust are fugly.
I’d take both, zR1 would probably get heat soak after hot runs in n hot weather but shit can’t go wrong with either
i wonder what he feels about the new c7 now lol..only thing he had right on the new assumptions were it was gonna be a v8 lol
The LS is a marvel of reliability that should not be underestimated.
how about the Stingray vs the ZR1 ???
The stingray would get raped bad. The Z06 would kill the stingray.
No. C6 Z06 and ZR1 would still kill it. Chevy says the new ones faster because they want to sell it. A used C6 Z06 for 35,000 is the best bargain on the planet.
flyingphoenix113
C6 Blowssssssssssssssss
have you ever driven one? Because it "blows" the doors off of ant gtr or 458 around a track.
I have driven a C6 when I was 17 when they first came out in 2005 or so. That was about it, but now I currently own a C7
thats some really profound stuff man.....you should write a book. Maybe put something in there about how people who say something that turns out to be false end up calling the person who proved them wrong "mentally challenged"
Here for the "C6 is better then C7" comments
C6 Z06 is 200kg lighter than c7 Z06
And doesn't suffer from overheating
no.. the intercooler sits on top of the supercharger. what you're seeing through the glass is indeed the intercooler.
also, it's not a plastic engine cover like most people think. that is the actual aluminum intercooler we're looking at, not some flashy cover.
Q: How do you know when the Pizza boy is about to arrive at your house?
A: When you hear a clapped out Honda that sounds like a beehive coming down your street
Amazing how much the production has changed in 5 years time
LMAO BOY SAID 5.3L
Ivan Ascencio lol
I agree with you. I would have the z06 over the zr1.
That cackle when you let go of the gas..that shit make me all tingly inside
This video is useless.
The only complaints you have are the seats? I'd rather have functional shit over pretty shit inside my interior that's only going to fall apart like Nissan's cars. You were absolutely wrong about the C7. 6.2L V8. And you're driving the automatic.
Stop making videos.
well automatics are faster, but keep on judging and shifting them gears because that's what makes you cool ig.
no horizon not trying to say that it makes you "cooler", but it does effect the performance of the car.
+no horizon people are ignorant, they got stuck on the 60s thought...when automatic transmission were horrible.... but now the technology has improved drastically to even have a 10 speed automatic transmission on a 2017 Ford raptor...
Míster Mostacho I'd just rather be in control of my vehicle. It's preference. But yeah, I'm ignorant.
+Míster Mostacho i hope that 10 speed never breaks because ittl cost a fortune to fix
Love it. I thought it sucked the ZR1 wasn’t a 7.0 s/c
A guy can dream
I hate how the c7 looks I prefer a c6. they screwed the look of the corvette
A 400% increase in sales shows you are wrong.
Sanic still if this 400% was real im not one of them and many others. I hate how I cant find a new c6 in Chevrolet site.
KhaledTarekGaming 37,000 2014 C7 sold.
Making it the beast selling sports can in the western world
Sanic stop giving me numbers give me revies from both sides. I know the c7 is good at handling and interior but in its look I prefer the c6. btw it reached above 350 kilometers
KhaledTarekGaming look it up nigga.
37k sold a new record
where did you find your salvage vette? im looking to get one but every salvaged corvette has either bad frames or is completly bust.
The new Stingray makes this car look like chopped liver..
c7 is a Trans Am corvette ...Prefer C6 lines better
Speed love you can stay in the cave but there's a reason why c6 did not sell well.
Its got-old-very-quickly exterior and worse than camry interior over its years.
The C7 brought back the sales in unit on track.
golferchin76 2005 C6 outsold the 2014 C7 both first year cars. Get out of your cave
The corvette zr1 is than the new one
golferchin76 I agree.
Who else is here in 2024?
Journalists don't seem to understand human nature in general
I've seen a few Aussies with 2007 ZR1s in RHD config. Are the 2013 models available in the British market?
Max Colegrove corvettes are better than a shitty boxster
I feel like I need to get into automotive engineering.
After they released the c7 I felt like the only way to make the Corvette mid-engine.
Then I figured they would make a hybrid awd after that.
After the hybrid awd it would only make sense to make a small displacement, high output exotic v8. Something that gm hadn't attempted at that point. I predicted a variable compression engine as well lol.
Too late now though.
Damn that’s a great prediction! You’re so right😂😂
Just bought a C5, incredible value is no joke. The performance per dollar is very hard to beat.
The Z06 is a small block 428 LS motor. 7 liters is 426-429 CI. Most people think it's a 427, but the Z06 engine is technically a 428.
I never heard a rumor that the c7 would have a 5.3. I always figured they would stay with a 6.2 but change the engine..which they did.
It won't be 3,600+.. It'll be around 3,400 or less.
lol. keep telling yourself that. the c7 c06 beats the zr1.
on this video itself the zr1 just was .2 seconds faster. how could the new z06 not is the question
ZR1 is more reliable
question: this doesnt relate to anything, but i will be driving in a year or two, and my dad asked me if i want his 2004 bmw x5, or to lease a new car that is not as nice, like around 150$/month or less. which should i pick?
This is true... Just goes to show what kind of stresses these kinds of cars go through under extreme driving conditions such as these.
sounds good to me ! i'll definitely look out for that movie you just recommended to me. it's always good to broaden sources and widen ones perspective. if you felt offended than hereby i'm extending my hand and apologize for insensitivity on my part towards your personal sentiments.
I bought a grandsport last year mammoth supercharger. I own a lot of sport cars, and that Corvette is wicked! I have a 9 second supra, and me and my girlfriend took them out and raced, the only thing that supra saw was taillights
A Porsche boxster vs a z06 are you insane? Z06 is better than the average 911
3:00 why is front bumper shaking on the launch 🚀?
No, I'm talking about the M3 GTS offered by BMW as a street car. Stripped interior(including back seats, stereo and A/C taken out), half-cage, 444-450hp, titanium exhaust, racing suspension, semi-slick tires; the works. And for that, you paid about $180k+. But its acceleration #s were in base Corvette/Grand Sport territory, and even a base Z06(as in no Magneride or Sport Cup tires)has run faster track times(on the N'Ring, the 2005 Z is 5.10 secs faster). Z07-equipped, there'd be no contest.
Absolutely love the new black wheels on the z06
