Wakanda in the comics does kind of remind me of the adeptus mechanicus from 40k in the fact they hoard their tech for different reasons. Some of the reasons are more justifiable than others while some are more flawed and short term but you can at least understand why they do it.
Spot on, also loved how you nail down the character Namor is supposed to be and how much they've failed with this strange mayan doppleganger they have in the movie
I didn’t see the movie and it was because the villain looked so boring to me. He didn’t seem intimidating at all like you said. So I’m glad I wasn’t wrong. The other thing was that they didn’t recast T’challa. It’s possible to introduce a new character as his successor without showing his death but I can’t see Disney Marvel handling it well. I’m just glad they didn’t Frankenstein his face like they did with Carrie Fisher. They didn’t, right? I hope M’baku is cool. I like his character. But I wasn’t sold on anything else. It’s not enough to be a sequel to Black Panther for me to see it.
The villain invaded Wakanda and killed their Queen in front of their Princess, he's so cold-blooded. Even the negative reviews for this movie all acknowledged that Nemor was a real badass who could be parts charming and persuasive but fully a psychopathic dicched.
Hopefully, We get A Black Panther TV Show With T’Challa Being The Main Focus. Played By Aldris Hodge. Show His Full Comic Book Storylines. Don Mcgregor To Christopher Priest. Like A Drama Series.
Not continuing the Black Panther’s story by not recasting and changing Namor the Submariner and Atlantis to some Aztec Mayan civilization will always be the the worst mistakes that the MCU has ever made.
It seems that the reception to this review is rather mixed. Hopefully, once I make my much longer and more through follow up video, opinions on this films will unify a bit more. But until then, carry on with your great debates! (but be nice to each other)
Namor says he has more soilders than Wakanda has blades of grass yet from what we saw in the movie a big bomb can anahilate the armies of Wakanda and Talokan simultaneously. Not even an atomic bomb, just a big regular bomb. Their armies all fit on a ship, how strong can their millitary power be?
8:13 Guess you forgot that at the end of the film that this does still happen. We don't get a conclusion of how this goes down but the film doesn't just forget like you've implied.
As a long time Black Panther fan this movie is absolutely NOT a Black Panther movie. It completely and utterly disregards the source material and makes Namor look like a moron and if Marvel expects me to be excited for anything related to Wakanda and Black Panther in the future without the main freaking character T'Challa.....yeah they can miss me with that bs. Honestly they should have recasted T'Challa because this franchise has no legs when it comes to adapting any other future Black Panther stories without T'Challa (and NO the mid-credits scene with the made up son TJ is not a "recast" and I'm not investing time into some made up character when you could have just recasted the original)
In the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the nation of Wakanda had many similar narrative beats as the movies without the flaws in worldbuilding. Most of it has to do with the fact that the Black Panther's Story had little to nothing to do with racial discrimination, slavery, or righting past wrongs. It was about the fact that overly strict adherence to traditions can be harmful. And it's still an extremely high tech hidden African Nation that shockingly still resembles tribal Africa. In the cartoon, T'Challa was begging T'Chaka not to accept Man-Ape's (M'Baku's) request for Trial by Combat, because it was a dumb tradition, that did not prove the new ruler would rule well, and T'Challa knew that Man-Ape was planning to cheat. T'Chaka didn't listen, and was promptly killed for it, leaving Man-Ape as the new King of Wakanda, and T'Challa fled to the United States to get help from the Avengers (the Fantastic Four in the Comics) in order to take back the throne from Man-Ape. Despite being a very high-tech Nation due to the access of tons of Vibranium, Wakandans still use spears instead of firearms. Narrative themes are probably more important to the worldbuilding of Wakanda than anywhere else in the Marvel Universe, to the point that if they try to change the message of it, that Wakanda seems to have poor worldbuilding because of it.
The movie was good and one of the better productions in phase 4 but it still could’ve been better especially with bigger battles and more people fighting. 6.3 out of 10
Honestly, that Iron Heart (lame name) suite was waaaaay more horribly made than all the Power Ranger suites… What were they thinking…?? There was actually someone that saw the last iteration of that suits design and went like: “Ah right ok, that will do!” Signed-Off! 🤷🏼♂️
Namor’s last name is Mckenzie. His dad is canonically a white American of Irish descent. But the MCU decided he should be Aztec influenced and played by a Mexican actor. God forbid they adapt one of the many Mexican Marvel characters.
Actually I wrote that comment. Cause I barely go to theaters to watch any movie so I just wanted to know if the movie is good or not for theatrical viewing
Wait your misrepresenting Namor’s goals. Namor doesn’t just want to attack the surface land because they owned slaves at one point. Governments were getting closer to Atlantis so Namor started to get threatened.
Did you miss the portion of the movie where he explains that a part of why he’s doing this is also because his people were enslaved/killed by conquistadors and they had to retreat to Atlantis to live? Or when he comes back and burns the towns down? Hell, his name in the movie is made to reference his people’s history. Which laying the stupid aside would plant a solid portion of his motivation going back to “they were mean to me and my people around 600 years ago so I want all surface dwellers to die.”
So one major issue I have to address with this video. You keep pointing out how Wakanda is portrayed as this perfect, flawless nation, but like, the first film pretty much addresses it's many faults, with is power structure, isolationism among other things. Wakanda forever shows how they've tried to evolve its pass mistakes and even then, is protayed far from perfect just for the very fact that they still end up going to a pointless war and almost get destroyed as a result. Plus, I think its somewhat ignorant to criticise Wakanda's negative on western society given that's its clearly based off the real life dark past that African nations have with western countries like America.
right, this guy just seems to have a hard-on for shitting on anything that depicts western nations as flawed and ignoring the plot points that he dunks on that were touched in the og film.
That’s great and all, but I’m pretty sure what he was getting at was the undeserved moral superiority the Wakandans have about basically everyone but mainly Europeans for some reason. Wakanda was never colonized, why should they call people colonizers? In fact, it seems like they’re even more to blame because they could have stopped the exploitation of Africa easily but chose not to. They could’ve helped Africa after decolonization, but they chose not to. They could’ve been a beacon of light and progress for the world but they aren’t. So why do they have this moral superiority? They treat everyone else as if they’re stupid and evil, which makes it hard to root for them.
Instead of wasting Namor on this, they should make an adaptation of the great Daredevil issue where he fights Sub-Mariner who wants to sue the human race.
I hate this movie. Is in my top ten hated Marvel movies. I didn't hate this movie more than black widow tho but it's up there. The shire disrespect to Chadwick's legacy, using his death to make money and replacing him with a cheap knockoff. I am amazed at how people find this enjoyable. This whole movie is disgusting.
I guess the one-eyed is king of the blind is the motto you want to implement here? People seem to forget that there is "i enjoyed the movie" and "it's a good movie". Enjoy doesn't equal good, i myself have enjoyed quite a few trash movies. I however am at least aware they are objectively trash, regardless of my enjoyment, things that many people are not capable of these days. Phase 4 including this movie has been 90% trash with the occasional good scenes/parts. Again, if you enjoyed it, great for you, but don't argue it's a good movie when there are so many story and writing decisions made that are objectively garbage. But hey at least they got rid of trial by combat for the 60+ year old queen, rip, and thin as a stick shuri without any reason, or did i doze off when they explained that?
it is one of the better phase 4 films, but it's still far from reaching it's true potential, which is why i'm so harsh with my critiques. I just want marvel to maintain the high standard they started out with
The actors scale might have more to do with covid restrictions than anything. You can tell in a lot of movies covid stuff that harmed the movie like in black adam the actors barely move from their bubbles and the scenes are so stiff. I dont have examples from BP2 bc it was boring and i turned it off
i like the idea of looking at specific team up comic stories and adapting the team up, but marvel go too far in just adapting the whole thing with replacement characters like Shuri and Riri. it could work if you just take the team up from the story like the one you talked about with Namor vs Black Panther featuring IronMan, but just adapt that, just that. just take that simple concept and then tell a new story with a new conflict that better fits within the mcu, using those characters, even using replacement characters, with the different characters helping with telling a new story. in my tweaked version of this movie, Tchalla is recast and James Rhodes is the "replacement" for Iron Man. and then make an awesome (REAL)Black Panther and WarMachine v. Namor movie. we saw a lot of Steve with Tchalla so i felt this movie would have been a good way to show a friendship between Tchalla and Iron Man's corner of the mcu with Rhodey. with Rhodey, who is a military and government man under the warmachine suit, it could be a conflict between The U.S. v. Atlantis v. Wakanda. there's a grand major conflict for a new story right in there somewhere where Namor (who from the comics i believe would be so petty) goes to war with two nations in Wakanda and The U.S. Tchalla could be the nation that brings peace to the entire conflict. all of this? simple slam dunk in addressing whatever things about the world post endgame and bringing back focus on the sokovia accords and its consequences on the superhero world. you can explore Wakanda not being assholes and actually trying to open up to the world and James Rhodes would help with that, and you can get a simple status update on the Avengers with Rhodey while also getting a small look into how the governments of the world are handling the new world. oh no... feige has headphones in he's about to make daredevil say the accords have been repealed...
I will say that while Namor’s backstory for his resentment is reasonable, seeing his people enslaved (the indigenous people, not the Atlanteans) I do still think it’s kinda dumb for him to want to kill the world. Hiding out of fear and resentment is one thing, but killing everyone on the surface because you want to hide and hate them doesn’t make much sense. I know that hate and resentment can go beyond rational thought, but it still doesn’t make sense logically to go after the whole world. Wakanda, yes. Riri, kinda but mostly yes. The whole surface, no. Honestly his story feels a bit more in line with Magneto imo
Hey mate. As much as i agree with your vids, you need to work on the way you talk. Everything you've said was in 1 continous monotone voice. Work on that and your vids will be so much better to watch :)
I like how the aqua Mexicans are portrayed as being as savage and technologically inept as possible. Like even tho Wakanda is just the African flavor of them, what with their vibranium powered tech (spears and laser cape-shields) they still have advanced aircraft and projectiles and what not. However, the aqua-mexicans are unable to utilize their vibranium in such a way. No. Instead they must resort to using humpback whales for transportation, and their only weapons are spears and water grenades. Not to mention how underwhelming submerged-Teotihuacan looks. It seriously just looks like underwater Aztec ruins, and the lighting in that scene is so poor you can't even make it out very well. They couldn't make us look more tribal if they tried. Q pena
I’ve watched a couple of your videos and I think you look at marvel completely wrong. You expect them to be the same as the comments, but if a story is already told once, why tell it again even if it is a different medium. You want the stories that you enjoy, but don’t have an open mind to hear the stories that are being told
Not gonna lie you definitely change my mind on some stuff from this movie especially comics comparison but I still very much like it and I personally wouldn’t say shuri was perfect but broken in a way and I did find Namor here very cold but I agree that he’s a step down still like this movie very much and I don’t like iron heart at all
I Wish We Had A The REAL Namor. We Could Of Had An Serious Underwater Adventure Type Film Before Aquaman. Heck, Submariner Was Before Him! Of Course They Had To Emasculate Him Because He Was Too Alpha.
Can you do a video on the Netflix punisher? I don't know if you have read those comics but the comic punisher is far superior to the bernthal version despite what everyone says. I think jon bernthal is awesome but he wasn't frank castle. Really they messed up most of those characters except for matt murdock
Anyone else think it’s funny that the character that actually acts like a colonizer in his early renditions was race swapped ?😂 Seem offensive when you think about it.
Dam now I get why this film was such a massive under profitable film making only make i think 878 to 890 million dollars world wide. versus the over 1.3 to 1.4 billion gross before adjusting for the absurdly high abnormal unheaincrease inflatation we have had since a year our 2 before the Covid out break slash unicron innitally started in Europe and Asia in mid fall late summer of 2019. the decently shorter and I think cheaper original gross. Outside of Spider-Man which majority of the bling bling it made got used for expenses theater compensation then 75% of what was left was split between marvel and Sony. Then Disney got the remaining 25% the phase 4 was a bad finical investment for all involved except for Sony. Who’s only been having very good luck maybe only having a couple of bad investment that lost money a year . last year I think there only flop was morbious twice. Then the year before there on big bad investment it was welcome to raccoon city film wise.
This movie felt more like Black Panther: Fight for the Streets. Most pathetic war(potential war) on the modern screen...reminded me of the wakanda vs space monsters battle in infinity war. Small and dumb.
This whole thing is cringe. Nemor invaded Wakanda and killed the queen and you're talking about he doesn't make his presence felt? Seriously dude you're a weirdo who thinks he's being cool by hating on popular things to hate on smh. That's why I cringe. I don't like they made Nemor Mayan, but Kukulcán is an actual deity in MesoAmerican religion, The Feathered Serpent God who in modern day archeologists say the legend was inspired by a comet hitting Earth which resembles a snake tail in the sky, like the meteor that gave them vibranium. So it actually all ties together sorry they didn't keep the more muscular bikini speedos version for you.
Yeah, I mean, Wakanda is not really portrayed to be a really functional nation. It’s somehow one of the most backwards and stereotypical depictions of an African nation while simultaneously being the most technologically advanced because they have one resource. I’ll say what needs to be said, neither of the BP movies were very good, but they played well with the current sociopolitical situation we’re in.
So every critique is correct, but I would argue is a bit nit-picky.the movie as a whole imo is a very refreshing upgrade in phase 4 even with the faults.
I cant bring myself to watch this movie.Knowing phase 4 its another woke rubbish. Also i just hate the new Namor. He looks NOTHING like Namor in the comics. He is NOT Namor to me.The choice for this is outrageous.(i have nothing against the actor but they could at least mask him a bit, make his hair or sumt? They werent even trying for crying out loud..).Every time i see a trailer of this movie i get mad.
Yeah they coulda recasted actors die and get recast all the time its kind of a selfish way of thinking tbh one guy died therefore a character he played shall never be played by any one else ever again 😂😂 thats not how Hollywood works all the "dont recast types" need a reality check
This was a phenomenal movie. Clickbait thumbnail. Idk shit about Namur but even I can tell this seems like it isn't the best adaptation. Then again I could be wrong. I'm saying ignoring the race swap. They could have made Namor more fish like. I could post how that would look to my Instagram but nah. But yeah the designa of the atleanteans were awesome and their appearances were so creepy. Such a great movie. No dumb mcu jokes
Personally I liked the film and I did notice most of the same flaws pointed out in this video, but compared to other videos on this channel, I think he went in too harsh on this movie. First off, I didn’t get the message of “Wakanda making fun of other nations” but rather them pointing out how dangerous and irresponsible bigger countries like US and France would be if they got access to Vibranium and when she called the FBI agent a “colonizer” it was bc she was making a joke since he was in chains. Also, despite Namor not being similar to the comics, he was still a pretty good character in this movie. The characters choices/motivations from him and Shuri were pretty dumb however that showed that these people aren’t all virtuous and perfect.
This movie has its flaws so it is very easy to get critical and start picking it apart however it is not a terrible movie. I feel like it was one of marvels better films of the last year or so. Its not an absolute must-watch movie but I’d still recommend it to people. (Probably go watch it earlier in the day or evening bc it is long as hell)

Make T’challa Have Most Of the Screen Time As The Main Character And His Give Back Intelligence, Take Out All Of the Side Characters Out of The Franchise. (Including Shuri)
Make Namor an Arragont, Jacked, Masculine, Giga Chad Anti-Hero. Not A Soy Boy Who Is Being Used To Promote An Agenda Of Being An Person Of Color And Being Oppressed And Staging An All-Out Race War Which The Audience Somehow Agrees With. (Looking At You Killmonger.)
Maybe Get Tom Cruise as Iron Man From A Different Universe.
Iron Man Teams Up With Black Panther And Wakanda To fight Namor And Atlantis In An All-Out War Type Film.
Pretty Easy Script To Write.
Sadly It Never Happen…😐
I do agree with them replacing Chadwick. It makes a lot more sense than just killing him off.
The teacher didn't genuinely say you can't do anything. Riri made the teacher say that I think. I could be wrong though.
you're correct, that page from the comics was the visual during that criticism. Only the teacher said 'she'd never be like tony stark' (paraphrasing)
@@braedenalberti and I. The comics tony was smarter then all of the other characters he just lacked vibranium.
@@alpha6games751& THE WORST PART IS that they already had the Prefect replacement for Iron Man after Tony's death in DR. DOOM/Infamous Iron Man, & despite that series had great sales Marvel cancel it after just 12 issues, in favor to Push Riri as The "TRUE" replacement for Tony
(but be nice to each other)
10:16 YOU'RE A FRAUD, SPIDER-MAN!
When you say Namor my subtitle actually went Neymar as in Neymar the footballer LMAO
Loving these videos man!
Imagining Shuri fighting M’Baku is laughable. She’d lose hard.
WHY ARE YOU AFRAID OF MARVEL'S MOST POWERFUL MOVIE????
A BLACK MAN DIED YEARS AGO - PUBLICLY GRIEVE NOW, YOU BIGOT!!!
Killmonger should’ve just been king and became the new black Panther
I’m honestly mixed if I want to go see this movie, but this review was great and funny

6.3 out of 10
Honestly, that Iron Heart (lame name) suite was waaaaay more horribly made than all the Power Ranger suites…
What were they thinking…??
There was actually someone that saw the last iteration of that suits design and went like:
“Ah right ok, that will do!” Signed-Off! 🤷🏼♂️
Namor’s last name is Mckenzie. His dad is canonically a white American of Irish descent. But the MCU decided he should be Aztec influenced and played by a Mexican actor. God forbid they adapt one of the many Mexican Marvel characters.
Yeeeep, my guess is they didn’t want him to seem like evil Aquaman but they did that anyway by making him nearly identical.
Dr doom should have been the unifying factor for Atlantis and Wakanda. The battle of the three most advanced nations in marvel.
Dr Doom is too big for Namor and Bagheera alone, so no.
thank you kind sir ,
now i won't have to go to theaters to watch this.
love all your recent videos.
I wouldn't let a guy on the internet formulate my opinions on something i haven't seen.
Just wait for it to get to streaming services and pirate it.
@@FrancisCastiglione you seem to be right .
Actually I wrote that comment. Cause I barely go to theaters to watch any movie so I just wanted to know if the movie is good or not for theatrical viewing
@@FrancisCastiglioneexcept as a guy who saw this trash fire film he’s right. This movie is not worth paying to watch.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!! 11:53a.m. 11/24/2022
Instead of wasting Namor on this, they should make an adaptation of the great Daredevil issue where he fights Sub-Mariner who wants to sue the human race.
No fucking way, you're here too 🤣

I hate this movie. Is in my top ten hated Marvel movies. I didn't hate this movie more than black widow tho but it's up there. The shire disrespect to Chadwick's legacy, using his death to make money and replacing him with a cheap knockoff. I am amazed at how people find this enjoyable. This whole movie is disgusting.
it was a pretty good movie. Not the best but one of the better ones in this phase.
It's ok not good...... in my opinion
Agreed
@@DarkSun123456789 why did you write a whole paragraph they just liked the movie 💀
it is one of the better phase 4 films, but it's still far from reaching it's true potential, which is why i'm so harsh with my critiques. I just want marvel to maintain the high standard they started out with
Wakanda Forever Waiting To Exhale

You got a point there since the multiverse is already established.
This is proof of a multiverse because if you think this guy got a point we are in completely different universes lol
@@Byronic19134it’s ok that you liked the movie. But it’s just not very good. I like plenty of bad movies so don’t take it personally.
The actors scale might have more to do with covid restrictions than anything. You can tell in a lot of movies covid stuff that harmed the movie like in black adam the actors barely move from their bubbles and the scenes are so stiff. I dont have examples from BP2 bc it was boring and i turned it off

Same thinking.
That's why I don't watch MCU movies anymore, and i don't care about the Kang stuff.
Finally He is back😭
why is it just the same video on loop in the background?
i like the idea of looking at specific team up comic stories and adapting the team up, but marvel go too far in just adapting the whole thing with replacement characters like Shuri and Riri.
it could work if you just take the team up from the story like the one you talked about with Namor vs Black Panther featuring IronMan, but just adapt that, just that. just take that simple concept and then tell a new story with a new conflict that better fits within the mcu, using those characters, even using replacement characters, with the different characters helping with telling a new story.
in my tweaked version of this movie, Tchalla is recast and James Rhodes is the "replacement" for Iron Man. and then make an awesome (REAL)Black Panther and WarMachine v.
I consider this film like no way home, good for me and I still enjoy it (especially the tribute to Chad Wick) but it has many flaws.
That opening was hilarious
Hey! NaMor is my favorite. This is the one superhero physic I could realistically achieve. 😅😅😅

Hey mate. As much as i agree with your vids, you need to work on the way you talk. Everything you've said was in 1 continous monotone voice. Work on that and your vids will be so much better to watch :)
There supposed to be different if the mcu wanted to do more comic accurate movies they world have
Iron heart and rhe rhe sucked and took suspension of disbelief to a new level.
6:38 What the fuck is this comic panel?
Q pena
I dont mind the change of namor as someone who is from Latin America i like it but what they did to him terrible
I’ve watched a couple of your videos and I think you look at marvel completely wrong. You expect them to be the same as the comments, but if a story is already told once, why tell it again even if it is a different medium. You want the stories that you enjoy, but don’t have an open mind to hear the stories that are being told
Why did they do this to namor and ruin a Wakanda movie...my GOD 😢
Not gonna lie you definitely change my mind on some stuff from this movie especially comics comparison but I still very much like it and I personally wouldn’t say shuri was perfect but broken in a way and I did find Namor here very cold but I agree that he’s a step down still like this movie very much and I don’t like iron heart at all
Thank you 🙏
Hehehe "woefully soft in body and mind" 😂
I Wish We Had A The REAL Namor. We Could Of Had An Serious Underwater Adventure Type Film Before Aquaman. Heck, Submariner Was Before Him! Of Course They Had To Emasculate Him Because He Was Too Alpha.
Can you do a video on the Netflix punisher? I don't know if you have read those comics but the comic punisher is far superior to the bernthal version despite what everyone says.
I think jon bernthal is awesome but he wasn't frank castle.
Really they messed up most of those characters except for matt murdock
You may not like mexican Namor but you don't need to pretend that comicbooks Namor is a cool character xd
MCU Namor is watered down just like all the other MCU heroes and villains.
Who the fuck is Naymor
Other than that, good video
Anyone else think it’s funny that the character that actually acts like a colonizer in his early renditions was race swapped ?😂 Seem offensive when you think about it.
Not only that but him being Hispanic makes it even worse when we find out that his weakness is his back being dry…
Another insightful essay, thanks

Ah Khun Khun khan 😃

I disagree with most of your points. I think it's a great film but I respect your opinion.
It’s amazing how tone def most people are and deny the subtle and sometimes blatant white hate is in this film.
Telling the truth about white history and continued antics is not hate, fucking relax.
I'm so looking forward to The Marvels.....NOT!
this movie is kinda racist. Lets be fair
