Awesome tutorial! Picked one of these up last week and you demystify the basics for us synth noobs. Minor niggle @2:04: I don't know if it's been addressed yet-and my apologies if it has-but when adding sounds as favorites, you have to hold the "Internal Sounds" button in addition to the "Favorites" button. Otherwise, it won't save. Figured this out with user guide, as I couldn't figure out why my faves kept defaulting to the presets. 😅
Im am in my first 6 months of learning piano (at 70!..never too late). I have 3 synths, which I love playing around with, getting my creative juices flowing. The Akai MPK Miniplay was bought so I could bring my mini studio (Akai, tiny Audio Box, earbuds, and iPad) with me when my wife and I travel. Thank you for this tutorial. It has helped me to know my Akai synth a little better, and has helped me to learn about Ableton a little better, and how they can work together on my PC a little better. Excellent tutorial.
@@PhopDab Weird Question. I just posted this 2 months ago. Still have a lot of life in me. But thanks for the concern. I use my Akai every week. I am still learning piano and music theory, and my knowledge grows week by week. This tutorial was another step in the path of inspiration to play and create music. I still have a long way to go. But as I told my wife (she is learning guitar), don’t be frustrated with how little you know at this moment in the journey, be inspired by where you will be one year from now with regular steady practice. Be more inspired by where you will be 2 years from now. It motivates us to keep practicing.
How wonderful you’re learning to play at 70! I just turned 60 & am producing my new Single after 17 years being severely ill. Enjoy your new toys! Best wishes from Germany ❤
@@stephenogrady7583 Hi Stephen. I'm 70, too, and researching to buy a beginner keyboard unit like this. But what I really want to tell you is this: for adults beginners over 50, learning keyboard playing is way easier than learning guitar. I taught guitar for decades and have discussed this with many teachers. The keyboard students have more fun and success for less time and work. The mechanics of keyboard playing are more natural and omfortable, easier to learn and control.
This is a good summary for a first time user of the MKP mini play. At 2.04 it says press Favorites and the keypad you want to save to. For me this didn't work and I had to look for more information online. Turns out I had to press both Favorites and Internal Sounds together and then select the key pad. Posting in case anyone else has this issue.
Girllll I really appreciate this tutorial, I really do. Thank you so much for everything. One day, If I'm lucky enough to be one of the most famous producers, I shall not forget about you.
finally got me using the arpeggiator! i thought it would be too complicated and save that for the future. well the future is now. awesome video. thanks
Extremely well put. Excellent performance. Very simple and easy to understand. Got my keyboard yesterday. What a great video in order to get the whole thing into my head without spending hours to read the manual... Thanks a lot. Many regards Chris Bunch of flowers music.
Congrats on your keyboard Chris! Hope you’re enjoying it! And thank you for the positive feedback. Your kind words are greatly appreciated. Keep making music!
I've just got a miniplay, and while I have experience recording live instruments, this is all quite new and it seems a lot of tutorials take a lot of basic knowledge for granted, so I was delighted to find this. Thanks for taking the time to break it down in such a straightforward manner! Much appreciated. Now perhaps I won't end up plugging my finger into a live socket in search of the Midi (which I presume is a Yeti, but with more electricity).
Thank you for this wonderful video tutorial. I am a beginner in using AKAI MPK Mini Play, and just discovered how to integrate my Ableton live 11 of which I am using for almost 7 years. Now I will make my self busy creating music. Keep it up!

I don't need to connect to a computer for my needs at this point. I've subscribed, interested to learn more. thankyou, greetings from SW Germany.
HI. Thanks for this video which is very helpful. I can`t see any comments about it yet but I noticed a lot of clicking and clipping sounds (as at 12:13). I also get this and they show up in the recordings. Can you tell me how to get rid of them please? Thanks again.

Is there a way to transpose the keys in semitones +/- on the Mini Play MK3 without using the computer? I can see the Octave +/-, but how do I transpose in semitones on the hardware itself?
Which model is this? I have the MK3 and there's a different button layout. I have 6 of the hard plastic buttons on the left and 4 on the right and there are 6 twisty knobs on the right. Some of your hard plastic buttons I don't have. On the right there's Bank A/B, CC, Prog Change and Prog Select.
can this thing do a decent impression of an early 90s house piano and can it accept midi in via usb? looking for a cheap and dirty sound module for house piano.
Hi my sister 🙂 I have studio one! Will this keyboard will also work with this DAW? I also have classic MIDI instruments from the late 80's and early 90's. Will this work with them? Thanks!
Hey, is it possible to program them (without a computer) so that the drums themselves play (DRUMS)? It's hard for me to describe it in a commentary. Piano can be programmed via ARPEGGIATOR+LATCH. But can the PAD also be turned on without a computer to play drums in a loop? It's all about miniplay and no computer.
Hi, Bit of a trouble shooting question. When connected, powered on, no sound from keys/drum pads. Please can you shed some light on this issue? Great video. Thanks..
So quick question, unless I get and audio interface like the scarlet you have, there will be a delay when trying to make music/beats? I’m trying to venture into the edm scape
Can you get to hear and record the "built in sounds of the miniplay " into the daw on the computer? I can't figure out how... it will play alright but not using the internal sounds..only sounds that are in the daw..
You need an Audio Box to have the DAW program record the Akai sounds. Otherwise your Akai acts only as a Mido Player to your DAW and only DAW sounds will play. The Akai is a Midi player first. It sends Midi information to your DAW to play its instrument sounds. As with any Synth, if you feed your Akai sound through an Audio Box and from that into your computer, the DAW will pick up the sound, replacing the midi signals to play DAW instruments. You will not hear your music through the Akai Speaker this way, but by feeding a speaker wire (or headphone) through your Audio Box will allow you to hear what you play. As an amateur, it took me several days of research on You Tube, learning new terms and terminology, to figure this out.
I want to use my mini play with mpc beats, but i cant really play anything in it and not record anything, how can i change that ? Is it maybe because on the screen of the mini play it`s written FAV: AbletonLive and not MPC ? Thanks :)
