Hey I have a question, and nobody seems to be giving a straight answer. Can you run this synth through a guitar amp without GarageBand or a computer at all? I was thinking of buying it and then plugging it into a an amp the same way I would plug in a guitar to an amp (or into effects pedals run through to an amp), but I'm not sure if it's able to do that, or if any midi synth can for that matter. @@kkrex

Very well done! Please show us what you're up to now since this is 6 yrs old! That sneak peek of your beat is fabulous but the looks on your face are precious! Dude your videos have been so helpful. I'm 25 and a teacher and you have pretty much taught me everything I know so far about making beats I appreciate it! Could you do a video like this for GarageBand? I would like to know how to use GarageBand better through my mpk mini
This means sooo much thank you, and not sure if I'm going to do a Garageband tutorial because I feel like there are so many out there but who knows, thanks for the support
lollllllllllllllll you just made my day! and thank youuu I tried to make the tutorial as clear as I could so people would actually be able to benefit from the video and create great music for themselves. Glad you enjoyed it.

I’ve watched this video like 3 times now because I’m trying to learn how to use the mpk mini and I never watched all the way to the end to hear the beat - beat is dope!
For those wondering to buy 🤔 I'd say its definitely worth the money! especially if you don't want to be intimated by all the knobs pads ect and don't know exactly how to play yet. I've had mine for about a month and I love it but ill admit when I get extra cash I definitely want one with more knobs to control fl studio fader ect you're able to with this one but as you become more fluent you start to notice things that could help you.
Guy, thank you for showing us all there is to know about this mpk mini. No one has ever done this kind of review . You are the only one who has given us a thorough review so far.. I'm getting mine soon
i'm honestly so thankful i've found your channel few months ago! been watching you ever since - you've actually taught me how to make my first beat all by myself because previously i'd just put samples together and call it a day. i got this Akai because of you also lol. i hope you blow up asap, you're amazing at what you do, yet so humble and willing to share your knowledge with us. i'm even watching the commercials so u cat get ur coin. sending love from poland
Nice tutorial, finally learned about Full Level and Note Repeat! One cool thing I found was that you can turn off Full Level and set Note Repeat to 1/32T. Then you can use the pressure on the pads to create a fade in/ fade out effect with your sample; works well with closed hats and rim shots. Bass kicks sound like a lawnmower.
Thanks for the video I’m a 14 yr old (almost 15) and a freshman in high school and I’m tryin got start making music and hopefully get noticed my junior year I’m not trying to go to school for a life that isn’t what I wanted

am not sure . but based on my knowledge from lp . it changes the values of the pads so u can map it differently in ur daw . without cc its just a button . with cc it uses pressure sensitive too and can change the value of the knob . but i may be wrong

One thing that is worth mentioning is that the arpeggiator on this device has a big delay from the moment you press the keys. This makes it frustrating when you're trying to play live with other band members. You can test this with and without arpeggiator and see the difference for yourself.
Young man, thank you for helping out and showing HOW TO USE IT, rather than just its features. I am now very very impressed with what it does for the price. And the beat you previewed at the end - love it! Beat-ify a classical piece of music!!!
Thanks for this. I'm an acoustic musician who's totally unfamiliar with midi and keyboards, and I was looking for something that would actually explain what the keys, pads, and buttons do, and how to use them. This was great! You explained everything really clearly. Still a lot to learn, but now I know how to start.

This was an extremely helpful video. I hate doing instructions and sometimes people make bad videos. this was super easy to watch and I instantly have tons of ideas with the drum and arpeggiator. and im glad you to learn about that full level. i was tired of bangin on the pads. I was like "this this is janky" lol thats exactly why I started looking for tutorials instead of wingin it and I found this. Appreciate all the help seriously.
lol I'm glad I could help you out but, it needs to be plugged into a laptop with music production software on it such as garageband, fl studio, logic pro x, ableton etc, for it to work, just letting you know
I watched this video a month ago & decided to order one a couple weeks ago it just came in the mail yesterday (Christmas Eve) im enjoying it so far. Thanks for this awesome video!
Absolute perfection. Agreed on the no B.S. time wasting talk. Right to the good stuff and man this is good stuff!!! really really appreciate it. Akai should be paying you!!!
I’m new to all this. Do you need to connect it to a computer for it to make sound? If so is there any machine where you can just make beats on and can carry it around
iisMisclick no, you have to plug it in to a computer, Which has music software installed like let’s say Fl Studio, and you’ll have to use an instrument on that, the keyboard itself has no sound of it’s own.
In this case you will need to connect to a computer with a DAW to make beats, but Akai (and other brands) do a few different options for that sort of thing. The MPK Mini Play is very similar to the MPK mini in this video but has built-in sounds and speakers. A more advanced standalone machine is the Akai MPC. There are plenty of different options for standalone samplers from other brands too. Standalone machines can get quite pricey though.
For this version of the board, you must connect it to a computer. If you would like to be able to carry it around without a computer, get the Akai MPK Mini Play. It is pretty much the same thing but it includes sounds.
Thanks man, I bought this thing awhile ago and never bothered trying to use it, that made things clear enough that I’m actually getting some use out of it now….
I’m worried about the amount of keys though. Will I run into any issues playing chords at the very left or right of the keyboard? Even with the octaves
Great video. I just got one of these next to a dumpster in my condo complex. I have a MacBook Pro with Bandcamp on it, but I’ve never used Bandcamp. I fired it up and plugged in the keyboard. Now I’m just messing around with it. Thought I was gonna sell it, but this is a definite keeper. No idea what I’m doing yet, but I’m having a lot of fun with it. Very cool!

Thanks dude! This is probably the best mk2 beginner intro tutorial I've found on YT by far, just simple, thorough, and on task. 👌 I'm slowly learning how to create and produce, and I bought this mk2 a couple years ago, so I could have a way to create basic piano notes or melodies, connected it and started using it with LogicPro, but had to do a complete systems restructure for backup/production/redundancy hardware-wise in short. Watching your vid helped me realize that it still worked easily using GarageBand, but I can't seem to get it to plug and play with LogicPro the same way. Sooo, would you recommend any vids on the tech aspect of connecting and using the mk2 with Logic and what vids do you think are good explaining how to program the pads? I would appreciate your opinion... That brief snippet at the end of your tutorial was def fire too...🤙
yoo guys I have a biiig problem. my keyboard of the akai mpk mini 2 isn't connected correctly. the 8 pads are all working well but when I press any button of the keyboard I can see on my fl studio that it's always going from "on" to "off" to "on" etc. it doesn't make a steady sound actually. pls help, I'd be so glad if I could fix this
Got one of these arriving today. iMac and Garage band all ready to go. Ain’t got a clue how to use it but watching your tutorial has given me a great insight. Cheers
Loved the video bro. The way you explained everything was super clear. I played the drums for 20 years and I’m just starting now to make beats with Fl studios and this the machine I’m buying. Not gonna lie watching your expression at the end listing to your beat was priceless lol I know that feeling when you watch something you created. Keep killin it my guy 🤘🏽
Well explained ...but.. ho do you grt different sounds/instruments to put on the pads? Is there a place to download for free or to purchase new sounds???
Great video! It showed me exactly what I needed to know to dive in and make beats with this machine, and in only 10 minutes! A definite must if you are just starting out with this equipment.
I MUST SAY ALONG WITH EVERYONE THIS IS THE ONLY VIDEO THAT EXPLAINS PERFECTLY NOW I HAVE FUN WITH MY AKAI ALOT OF IDIOTS GO THROUGH THE PROCESS SO FAST AND JUST PRESS BUTTONS SHOWING OFF HOW GOOD THEY ARE AND DONT EXPLAIN FOR NEW OWNER
Your video is better than most that have way more experience on it, but maybe they are to experienced to give a good explanation to people not on their level. Good job.
kk! Bro I just got one of these and I am struggling. I am trying to use it with LLMS, and I cant figure out how to connect it, and change the pads to different sounds. I have installed the mini editor and I have watched SOOO many tutorials, with urs being the best so far! I was hoping you could make a tutorial on how to connect it to LMMS or how to change the sounds of the pads in general. Thx man and keep the great beats poppin'!
Thanks man, and I don't know much about LLMS but when I use garageband or logic pro X, I just plug it straight into my computer and it syncs automatically sorry I wish I could help more
After you add whatever instrument you want to use to the song, you have to click the settings button on the instrument, go to midi, input, and then click the one you're using. You have to do this for each new instrument you use
Thanks for this review! I just got this last night and now I have a much better understanding of how to use it. Definitely going to return to this video multiple times haha. Also that beat at the end WAS FIRE!
Hey dude, I'm 19 and have had one for 2 years and still barely know anything bout it. Practice patience and persistence you will prevail my guy! Just keep up the practice and messing around and over time you develop it naturally. One love god bless and good luck!

Is this good for a starter piano if it’s your first one?
I think it’s good for beginners for sure , it was my first midi keyboard and it’s like $100
I went through like 10 videos of this product to find a good one. This one told me everything I needed to know to buy.
yoo guys I have a biiig problem. my keyboard of the akai mpk mini 2 isn't connected correctly. the 8 pads are all working well but when I press any button of the keyboard I can see on my fl studio that it's always going from "on" to "off" to "on" etc. it doesn't make a steady sound actually. pls help, I'd be so glad if I could fix this
Your the Man, good tune at the end.
So I'm probably getting this along with FL Studio 12 Producer Edition, would this work with that on PC?
yes it should
Did it work?
this wss amazing there are literally no tutorials out there and this was the only one where i actually learnt something. Thank you
How cool that you made this tutorial. I really needed it and learned a lot. Thank you.
Glad I could help
“Ooo, my bad” 😂😂 dope vid bro 🙌🏽
loll thanks
Well explained ...but.. ho do you grt different sounds/instruments to put on the pads? Is there a place to download for free or to purchase new sounds???
Fantastic review, very detailed.
thanks
Amazing video, explained everything perfectly!
So a computer is a must with this? Will it work with chrome
Great video! It showed me exactly what I needed to know to dive in and make beats with this machine, and in only 10 minutes! A definite must if you are just starting out with this equipment.
So does it itself loop? or you need a looping program on your computer or a loop station ?
you need to have a music software because this has no sounds of its own
I MUST SAY ALONG WITH EVERYONE THIS IS THE ONLY VIDEO THAT EXPLAINS PERFECTLY NOW I HAVE FUN WITH MY AKAI ALOT OF IDIOTS GO THROUGH THE PROCESS SO FAST AND JUST PRESS BUTTONS SHOWING OFF HOW GOOD THEY ARE AND DONT EXPLAIN FOR NEW OWNER
thank you so much bro! you are actually super helpful!
Im glad, I tried to make it as helpful as possible
i always watch your videos because i just ordered the akai and wanted to know how to use it. you have amazing uploads. please upload mooore!
YOUR CRAZY NOT TO BE USING THE MPC ESSENTIALS, YOU MISSED A FEW THINGS BUT IT WAS STILL PRETTY GOOD. I WOULD USE THE D.A.W IT CAME WITH .
I think Logic Pro X and some of the plugins I have with it, blows mpc essentials out the water
Question where you get the software or.if comes with it or not
Your video is better than most that have way more experience on it, but maybe they are to experienced to give a good explanation to people not on their level. Good job.
thanks so much
Thanks man, and I don't know much about LLMS but when I use garageband or logic pro X, I just plug it straight into my computer and it syncs automatically sorry I wish I could help more
LMMS is super limited so you might want to use a better DAW
XxLando MitexX LLMS seriously? 😂
THE BEST REVIEW!!!
You explained this so well but I’m still so confused
Hey dude, I'm 19 and have had one for 2 years and still barely know anything bout it.
Practice patience and persistence you will prevail my guy!
Just keep up the practice and messing around and over time you develop it naturally.
