my MPK mini MK2 doesn't give me that option, I think 😢 ... it doesn't have the digital display and the computer editor doesn't give me that option either. wondering if I could fix that key velocity with external software instead
Akai totally hooked me up!! I bought a MKII years ago, and got in touch with Akai. They sent me links to every useful thing for my keyboard AND hundreds of dollars worth of cool free software. I DIDN'T EVEN BUY FROM THEM!! I bought it used, and Akai made $0 from me. I was floored by how cool they were about helping me out.
@@MusicTechnologistcan you please respond to the other comments? Like what software are you using on the ipad, and how to change the velocity of the beat pads?
if you have a mpk mini 2 and youre using fl studio and want to fix the velocity, go to MIDI options, click on the line next to "link velocity on note to" and change the velocity curve by dragging the center dot up to make the graph curved. can also set velocity to none if you dont care about dynamic range.
Btw, the pads are so stiff on this controller, you may want to get used to hitting the corners, they're far more reactive than anywhere else on the pads. other than that, excellent quality, wonderful pots, and controls, and one hell of a value...DON'T GET ALL BLACK KEYS!

At first I thought you would say "press 'Full Level' and then you don't have to hit so hard'. Because that's what I've done, essentially turning off velocity. But when you'd held it for five seconds I was blown away!
Hey man, thank you so much for the tips. I just bought the Akai MPK Mini MK3, and this advice is really helpful. Wishing you success always. I've subscribed to your channel and can't wait for your next valuable sharing. Greetings from Indonesia.
Pad sensitivity curve can be set in MPC Beats/Software. Mini Plus is cool but nothing can beat the MPK Mini as a throw in your backpack thing. I have a MPK Mini and a MIDIMix in a case and throw that in my backpack along w the laptop. Perfect combo.
@@LDJE_LIVE same thing I want to know, seem to be locked out from being able to adjust it. The only way I've seen to fix it is to void the warranty and add electrical tape to make the pads more sensitive

It says nothing in the manual about it. What are v1, v2, v3, v4 supposed to be? And how do you change the velocity sensitivity for the pads? My keys are way off for my preference, the pads I would like to change a bit. From some playing around I can only assume it is an input to output map, couldn't figure out for sure where v1 and v4 are except v1 is at the loud input range and v4 is at the quiet input range. I'm assuming something like 5, 15, 25, 35 is supposed to be linear with the sensor since it starts at 0 and maxes out at 40, and v1 and v4 don't seem to control the far end ranges but just close to them. These are my settings that felt significantly better than any I've found, gave it a consistent feel while playing arpeggios across mixed black and white keys while increasing and decreasing the volume. The idea is to allow a lot of control in the midrange while still giving the ability to play low and high volume without random velocity outlier notes sneaking in. v1: 32.2 v2: 09.8 v3: 06.6 v4: 02.6 Black bal: 0.9x Copied above for ease of finding in the future. Really useful video! Was looking at this keyboard as a portable stand alone keyboard for doing live looping with my guitar and vocals. If I use any app for midi, it would probably be Garageband on my iPad for running tracks, so having those CC commands is pretty awesome
So I got this as a gift from someone used that had bought this for themselves in the past. Is there software or downloads I’m supposed to have access to in order to use it? I just got the akai mpk mini and the cord but nothing else and want to make sure I can use it or if I need to ask them for all that
Awesome! All software can be downloaded from Akai’s website. You don’t have to use any of it, but you can. The cool thing about these little midi controllers is that they’re pretty much plug and play! Just make sure you know how to load up your DAW and/or software instrument of choice. MIDI controllers don’t make sound, they just control things that do. Hope that helps! 🙂
