The bird guy is the best, he gets a bird that helps you spot enemies from stealth... Most of his skills give the bird some type of damage, which allerts enemies to your presence, making his whole kit pointless and useless... It is great!
This could be so easily fixed. - Skill 1: The bird deals damage to the marked target after you damage it - Skill 2: The bird also deals damage-over-time bleed to the marked target after you damage it - Skill 3: When the market target notices you, it moves or attacks slower (because it's being pecked by the bird) - Skill 4: When you kill the marked target, another bird spawns from its corpse and attacks the nearest enemy - Skill 5: When you kill the marked target, its blood attracts a swarm of birds. AoE crowstorm circles around the corpse for a couple of seconds. Any of those changes would keep the bird's damaging ability without breaking the stealth aspect.
They did this shit to every chars. For example, who can carry more medkits than anyone else? Right, the girl, who has healing utli and healing robot. Because she needs more healing obviously.

I could see this being the final straw. This was supposed to be a new era for Xbox first-party exclusives - a lot was riding on it. Maybe Arkane could turn Redfall around but they may not get the chance.
You guys remember how in the first 3 new Wolfenstein games the guns would absolutely mulch whatever you were shooting at, then in that awful co-op sequel they made the guns into RPG weapons that quote numbers instead of annihilating flesh? I don't think guns make good RPG weapons
I agree, every RPG that ive played has very unsatisfying gunplay for some reason. Fallout 4 probably had the best I’ve experienced but even that gunplay was very average (but good by fallout standards), with the downside being them removing several of the roleplay elements from previous games like New Vegas
@@brokenpotato438 To be honest I preferred the gunplay in new vegas, at least in that game you had functional lever actions because apparently nobody at bethesda is capable of making a scripted reload so every weapon they make has to have a magazine.
5:57 you know, I used to complain about daytime vampires in pop culture too... but turns out, Dracula can walk in day time just fine, according to the original novel. Vampires dying to sunlight was popularised by the 1922 movie "Nosferatu".
Be isn’t just fine, it takes a lot of his powers and makes in “incredibly cranky”. The book describes him as a spoiled child when in sunlight as opposed to his creature of the night motif he has during the night.
I mean, I like that the pistol is actually an effective weapon. I'm sure it gets worse as the enemies become level-dependent bullet-sponges and the weapon tiers take priority, but it was nice to see an enemy drop without unloading the whole magazine.
"Level dependent bullet sponges". Hate to break it to you, that doesn't happen. You'd think it would with the weapon tier system but it doesn't. There are some "bosses" that you can beat by strafing or by standing behind items... They take a couple more shots. I honestly can't explain how bad this game is.
why do these companies that try and add cringy dialogue also have a weird reference to everyone thats young being in student debt? Like is this something they want people to get excited and happy about? "haha shes poor and hopeless like me, but shes for some reason smiling". 6:09 Actually all vampires prior to nosferatu weren't really effected by sunlight.
I have yet to see a single video game that did PowerPoint cutscenes well. They almost always ruin the entire story. They're up there with blank screen and text "cutscenes".
Goodness grief. I feel like big budget videogames really are at a low ebb at the minute (tbh, it's been years now). I'd love to see what the hell happened to the talent at these studios that have become a husk of themselves, such as Arkane and DICE. Did they leave (and if so, where exactly?) or did they just give up or something?
Arkane lost it's main director that did their best games. More than that it's hard to know. As for dice, there were a lot of ex dice developers around for a while. Most seemingly ended up at Embark studios, but they haven't released anything outside of some interesting tech research projects and a trailer for a game I think.
The stopped hiring people who are actually interested/capable of making good things. The people who makes these games is reflected in the quality, characters and tone and let's just say these aren't people who arent traditionally known for making innovative and fun things.
I honestly think its a lot of things. One being the industry just changing as a whole for these big titles, they seemed rushed to meet a date and planned out by people who don't care. And the bigger the title the more crunch time/interference. That's why oboe saying they should tell the studio "hey go make whatever you want" is quite literally the best option lol.
Honestly the development of this game feels exactly how I used to do my homeworks. I try to focus, realize it’s harder than I thought, starts writing answers looking away and just praying it’ll work when I give it back to the teacher.
Your explanation of it being good click bait background gameplay is spot on. I usually watch those videos always thinking "what fkn random game is this?" without enough interest to actually find out because It looks so generic so I just listen to the topic. This is PERFECT for that
wow! this game sure does have incredibly topical humor! i was rolling on the floor laughing with the student debt comment!!!! please let me out arkane studios has me hostage
Loved Dishonored 1 as well Frankly, the studio which created Dishonored no longer exists. Its a common problem with studios in the long run. Regardless of the studio, or prestige behind it the first 2 generations of employees have something to prove. The studio has no reputation, but employees have time, and energy, they create something great. They build a reputation, and the slowly retire. Generation 3 of employees generally care less about sacrifice to make something good. Every generation after proceeds to decline further. With time the people who made the studio, the ones who built the legend leave, or retire, you are left with folks who where not part of this history, only there because of the name. Have little to offer, and think because the studio is well known stuff will just work out. They slack, figure others will catch their slack, problem is all the good employees have already moved on, or retired. You're left with a studio that has nothing in common with the team which made it great beyond the name alone. That's what this is, it's proof the original group of employees who made it great are no longer present. Every well known studio suffers from this same fate, the people who had the time, energy, and willing to sacrifice to produce something great either retire, or get out numbered by new highers. Year after year is simply a steady, and consistent decline.
tough at least the WolfEye Studios was created with the Raphael Colantonio who was Founder, and former Creative Director at Arkane Studios and Julien Roby who is former Executive producer at Arkane Studios.
I think this is why it’s a good idea for companies to dissolve, or at the very least change their company’s name, once their core members are gone. Leave the current team to make it on their own merits without the name recognition. Nothing is meant to last forever.
My favorite type of video game to laugh at is "Let's make a studio known for it's interesting unique well-beloved games make the current industry cashgrab"
Olds joking about student debt is like them saying "Heh remember that time I burned you with my cigarette? Oh look you still have the scar! Can't believe you let me do that to you, good times."
I was more lukewarm/surprisingly positive of Deathloop when it first came out, if you want the Dishonored experience with save scumming you'll be disappointed but then get used to the run and gun gameplay and just feel the flow than it does work just not as much of a narrative from Arkane.
I don't see that happening honestly, so many problems with Redfall just arent repairable. You can fix poor performance in the short term but you can't patch in an interesting story and characters or a completely new loot system that isn't ripped right from Destiny. Not that they should try, just make the game playable then move on to new things cus no one wants this.
Probably my favorite video to date, because I can relate so easily. I watched Assassin's Creed go from interesting historical adventure to an insanely padded mess of an "RPG". Valhalla was my Redfall and I'm glad to commiserate over the loss of a once talented studio
You know, Oboe, I’m gonna be honest. I know this video isn’t your usual, hyper-sarcastic style, but I really did like it! It spoke from the heart, and it showed that not only do you clearly have strong and well-intentioned negative feelings for this game in particular, but that you also have a level of insight and cleverness to articulate those feelings well, and in a way that’s still entertaining. Of course, I still really enjoy your other, more zany videos, but I want you to know that this more sober, honest style of video/discussion also very much works to your strengths. And it still fun and enjoyable all throughout. Cheers!
It's odd how when studios are bought by Microsoft, they tend to go from making great games to making shit games or just not making games at all. Weird how that happens A LOT.
It's so obvious how bad they are at managing their studios. Sad part is there are a lot of loyal Xbox fans who will defend them forever because being an "Xbox fan" as opposed to a "PS fan" is part of their personality. So Microsoft will continue to get away with feeding their playerbase complete shit without actually losing more players. Hopefully regulators get their shit together and stop letting them buy whatever they want to buy so they don't ruin anymore good studios.
They did not involve themselves in this game, redfall was in development for years before the buy out, someone explained this already in another comment
Tango had Ghostwire, but then they also had HiFi, and while Ghostwire was a struggle with creative leads (I'd still hold Mircosoft slightly accountable for the final product, and I LIKED Ghostwire but its still has issues that should have been caught) but HiFi was only greenlit under the pretense that I'd be a day one gamepass. Psychonauts 2 was also saved by Microsofts funding as it also had blunders with its project director and new team members, however unlike Ghostwire, that Microsoft money went into cutting the fat and building up the parts that worked. Granted we still haven't seen anything new from Double Fine yet, but if you ask me the biggest issue with Microsofts cannibalization is that they don't care, they aren't exhibiting complete creative control which could be good, but they aren't directing bad projects toward success and their funding is so fucking mismatched. Don't get me wrong, I am very worried that Double Fine's next game could be dog water, and not in the way that Double Fine experiments are NORMALLY hit or miss. More in a asking a studio known for adventure games to make a shitty Hades clone or a Mario Odyessy kind of fucked up.
Just Microsoft? For a long time now we seem to be going into a huge creative crisis caused by economic crisis that the big corps are trying to hide while also trying to keep us individuals from making our own pieces and criticizing theirs.
You need to revisit Death of the Outsider. Was it a complete reskin? Sure but the abilities were hella fun. The ending was mediocre for sure but everything else was awesome.

@@seanfussa3076 Well said. This stuff is why I'm more than happy that the indie scene has continued to grow.
Borderlands 3 is an RPG and its gunplay is fantastic
Literally Destiny 2...
@@brokenpotato438 To be honest I preferred the gunplay in new vegas, at least in that game you had functional lever actions because apparently nobody at bethesda is capable of making a scripted reload so every weapon they make has to have a magazine.
@@brokenpotato438 for me, it's pretty much the opposite, the only game where guns were interesting to me at all was an a(rpg): torchlight 2
"Vampire ex-boyfriend" ah yes because we all loved Scott Pilgrim so much
5:57 you know, I used to complain about daytime vampires in pop culture too... but turns out, Dracula can walk in day time just fine, according to the original novel.
@@Dap1ssmonk Fair enough.
I mean, I like that the pistol is actually an effective weapon. I'm sure it gets worse as the enemies become level-dependent bullet-sponges and the weapon tiers take priority, but it was nice to see an enemy drop without unloading the whole magazine.
I personally loved how the enemy dropped to the ground while his gun drops to the horizon here 3:58

Actually all vampires prior to nosferatu weren't really effected by sunlight.

Ah yes, of course, you know a game is good when it has PowerPoint cutscenes (of course not to generalise)
You’ve never heard of vignettes?
I have yet to see a single video game that did PowerPoint cutscenes well. They almost always ruin the entire story. They're up there with blank screen and text "cutscenes".
I thought that's just what Arkane does? Dishonored also had PowerPoint cutscenes

Are the four characters just self inserts for the 4 interns they had working on this game???
"If you played a game the last 10 years you played this one" exactly sums up how I feel about the modern industry of gaming.
This is PERFECT for that
Never thought I would see a Morbin Time Simulator game get made. 10 out of 10, will Morb Again.
"I'm just not even going to consider this one to be part of Arkane's catalog."
Ah, so it's the Enterprise-G of Arkane games.
Now _that_ is a reference I can agree with! Go Titan-A!

Loved Dishonored 1 as well
Frankly, the studio which created Dishonored no longer exists.
Year after year is simply a steady, and consistent decline.
tough at least the WolfEye Studios was created
with the Raphael Colantonio who was Founder, and former Creative Director at Arkane Studios and Julien Roby who is former Executive producer at Arkane Studios.
I think this is why it’s a good idea for companies to dissolve, or at the very least change their company’s name, once their core members are gone. Leave the current team to make it on their own merits without the name recognition.
Nothing is meant to last forever.
1:22 I hate to inform you of this, but the guy with the Cyberpunk 2077 jacket actually has Blink, im not joking
My favorite type of video game to laugh at is "Let's make a studio known for it's interesting unique well-beloved games make the current industry cashgrab"
Bro, student debt is a very serious issue in Redfall.
Remember when we all lived in the ignorant bliss that Redfall was the Elder Scrolls 6 title? Yea me too.
Can’t wait for 6 months down the line where they slowly patch this game and gamers be like “Wow Arcane did amazing work they redeemed themselves”
ya cant polish a turd
I don't see that happening honestly, so many problems with Redfall just arent repairable. You can fix poor performance in the short term but you can't patch in an interesting story and characters or a completely new loot system that isn't ripped right from Destiny. Not that they should try, just make the game playable then move on to new things cus no one wants this.

Cheers!
It speaks volumes that almost all his jokes/riffs are straight from his head/livestream
@@JotaPS88 But they had to have been aware of the state of the game before shipping it.
