    It just demonstrates that even highly trained experienced drivers make mistakes, so then it questions how fair is the driving test, because driving pretty much perfectly for 40 minutes can be difficult for someone whose only had about 60 hours driving experience. I’ve had well over 100 hours and I’m on my third go at the test, even the head instructor who I had for my first test said she was impressed with my driving but couldn’t pass me cause the car conked out cause of the hill I was on and the car I was in, she told me if the car behind wasn’t so close behind or wasn’t there at all then I would of passed. So luck is heavy when you’re doing a driving test. So it’s not really very fair. I know people in my year who have just passed and I see them on their phone or they’ve already scratched or ruined their car. Yet I can drive without instruction safely and still struggle in the test.

      Similar experience for me. My instructor told me he would have bet (and subsequently lost!) a lot of money that I would pass.

      @J1234 but even a professional driver or instructor would say you don’t start learning till you pass, and don’t forget that first time passers and people with limited experience (i.e less than 40 hours) are the most likely to crash, plus it’s a factual statistic that 1 in 5 newly qualified drivers crash within their first year of driving.

      i passed on my 4th try and when the examiner told me i passed she couldn’t believe it had taken me 4 tries, you’ll get there eventually good luck with your next test :)

      Tbh I agree. The pass rate in the UK in 2010 was 63% it then plummeted to 47% a few years ago and currently sits at 51%. That would suggest that the test isn't fit for purpose and urgently needs reform.
      Realistically it's always been that way for example when I did it you had to reverse round a corner? What that was about I have no idea as I genuinely don't think I've ever had to do it and certainly not the way you had to do it on the test day.
      Don't worry about the people you know who have passed recently as unfortunately when I was your age the most irresponsible and immature people passed quickly but then most ended up losing their license even quicker or getting involved in a serious accident because they'd be on their phone, speeding or under the influence.
      Good luck.

    Francis definitely knows how to engage with the viewers, it's obvious he knows the answers to most of the questions he's asking, but they're informative to the viewer while he's driving. I think also some of his talking is down to some amount of nerves, so not everybody can escape the nerves while being examined! Great video!

    He does talk a lot but I love his vibe as an instructor and I wish I had him as my instructor. My instructor had 2 energies one minute he will be talking and laughing next minute he’s screaming at you. Happy it’s all over as I’ve passed I just appreciate Francis energy as this is the attitude needed to teach learners

    • @stevethomas74
      @stevethomas74 3 роки тому +9

      Ditto! The thing is, we all know that he wouldn't be that animated/jokey on a real test but it just goes to show how good a driver he is EVEN WITH the 6 minors and 1 serious. Driving in a different car and a totally different area too. I'm still currently learning to drive and some of the routes (and especially that damn confusing roundabout that was 3rd exit right!) had me sweating even from the comfort of my own chair! 😁
      P.S. Sorry to hear about your former driving instructor! Thankfully mine is a lot like Aman (she's also Indian) but she's a perfect mix of technically brilliant instructor but with all the patience and friendliness/sense of humour to boot. The first instructor I had many years back, was a guy in his late 50s or even early-mid sixties and he was trying to get me to run before I could walk. Think driving on a dual carriageway in rush hour 5th lesson in when I can barely move the car off properly down a quiet street! 😬 Needless to say, after about 8 lessons I gave up as each lesson was 2 hours long and I was having PTSD by the time I went indoors!

      I definitely think there should be a balance between the technical mistakes and the reaction, but at the same time, it's a machine that can easily kill you and those around you. I'd rather the standards be stupidly high than too low tbh

    • @theunholybanana4745
      @theunholybanana4745 3 місяці тому +1

      @@CoRLex-jh5vx the problem with the current test is that the standards are virtually impossible to meet by skill and incredibly easy to meet through luck, so you end up with a lot of bad drivers passing and a lot of good drivers who get unlucky.

    • @CoRLex-jh5vx
      @CoRLex-jh5vx 2 місяці тому +1

      @@theunholybanana4745 I absolutely agree, I know someone who had a pretty much flawless driving test, but another driver behaved stupidly right at the end and he didn't react properly/fast enough, and failed solely for that. Even the examiner admitted he would've passed if that car just hadn't been there. 'Luck' should definitely be considered to a certain extent, but again, I'd rather them have higher standards than lower. Other drivers behaving stupidly/dangerously is something that happens in regular life, so the ability to react properly needs to be considered. It's just unfair as you said when people have good luck where they potentially don't have those skills but don't get to show the examiner that, and then pass somewhat undeservingly.

That's for life now. I worked hard, got a FIRST in my test and now doing my Masters. I enjoy driving so much that it's not work, it's challenging but good fun and to know I'm "one of the UK's most skilled road users" gives me reassurance because there are a lot of terrible, dangerous drivers out there - professional or not. I recommend everyone do it and will be making a video on this soon actually as there's not enough information out there 👍

    Clearview Driving, your videos are super-useful, in terms of both the footage and the analysis! And Inshall did great :-) One suggestion: do you need to cut out sections of the drive when editing? I'd personally much prefer to see how everything joins up, even if I need to watch a longer video. And there was one bit in this video where Inshall merges onto a dual carriageway, which is a significant manouver, but it was cut.

    At 19:14 wouldn't that have been a serious fault as he merged into a lane where on-coming traffic could have been turning?

    Oh. Stopping/parking on the other side of the road (like around 38:00) would be against the rules in Germany (unless it's a one-way). You're only allowed to park in the direction of travel.
    And for left turns you always cross in front of each other unless otherwise instructed but this is hardly a thing (more so on big interrupted intersections). So it was interesting to see how this varies so much in the UK (or just in the London area).

    If you can't pass the Hamburger roundabout unless you drove it with your instructor ... That's just bad road design in my opinion. The infrastructure needs to be developed so that people who don't know the road can traverse it safely.

    8:46 get that left foot away from the clutch! is he riding the clutch? probably. I'd be mortified if i made these mistakes. I sat my prt 2 in a strange city and had 2 minors! possiblly shutting up and concentrating on the drive woud help. BTW I am A grade A instructor, your videos have helped, thank you!!!

    Lady in the orange coat at 36:06 at the Zebra crossing. Really a minor? Seems harsh. You were well into the zig zag lines before there was any indication that she wanted to cross. Vision seemed blocked by the parked cars too.

    • @CrazyInWeston
      @CrazyInWeston Рік тому

      Yeah I was gonna say the same, far too harsh on that, he was practically on the crossing by the time she looked behind for any indication to cross.
      Anyway, the actual law states on Zebra crossings that you MUST stop if they have one foot on the crossing itself, if they are on the pavement waiting to cross, you don't actually need to stop!
      So a minor for a pedestrian showing no signs of wanting to cross as he pretty much drove over (and was in an unsafe position to stop anyway) was very harsh indeed!

    nice video 🙂 love it, just a comment from when you was on test in his ca, about the handbreak yes should be in the middle but that is Mercedes 😛
    if it was a eu car and stearing was on other side (left) the handbreak will still be same as in ur´s just in left side of stearing, that´s Mercedes standard place for handbreak...
    old mercedes had it and there you just had then foot pedal to push down and u pull the handle to release it 🙂
