I always say Gavin is the best thing that happened to Porcupine Tree. Aside from Steven, Richard and Colin of course. :) Probably my favourite drummer of all time
While clapping you kinda don't think about metric, it's rather about the pulse. Plus, 6/8 is a really common rhythm in latin american-african music. And yes, I'm being extremely pretentious, arrogant and apathetic, but I don't have friends (this is why I listen to prog rock tho) Just joking, the crowd is really cool, prog listeners can have friends and most people don't know shit about metric, but I wanted to say thing about the pulse and the latin american accent, everything in my country sounds like people saying burrito (bu-rri-to) (:
Nooo guy, Porcupine Tree is not underrated at all. The band is greatly esteemed among connoisseurs. Today, "prog" is a niche genre. Porcupine Tree found its niche, it built a dedicated fanbase. And this is amazing. So no, again, the band is not underrated.
for sure one of the best in the world yes. Especially when it comes to prog-rock, closely matched with Marko Minemann but i wouldnt dare to decide who i like more
It's to make it easier. During live you have to sing lots of songs and jeep Your voice The best and in these songs The main thing is to keep The groove
I agree. I like the vocals better without all the harmonies for this particular songs, even if vocal harmonies is something PT does particularly well. There’s just something about the rawness of Steven’s clean vocals, especially during the part right before the break. It makes more sense for the song, ‘cause it’s so personal.
This is one of the few PT songs I actually prefer the studio version of. This performance is awesome of course, but it just doesn't do it for me like the one from the album.
Don't lose hope! Even though they split up, Steven still play's some PT songs on his shows! I got to enjoy Arriving Somewhere, Open Car, Trains and Way Out of here during the TTB tour! Not the same without Gavin, John and Colin, but Steven's musicians are always top notch.
That piercing haunted note Wilson carries for the word "always" at 1:42 gets me every time! My favorite part of the song is the harmonies starting at 3:38. Fucking Genius!
This band was a match made in heaven, with perfect chemistry as musicians. The fact the Porcupine Tree are no longer a band is so sad, I want to see them live.
When Opeth had their Lamentations DVD gig at Shepherd's Bush Empire back in 2003, Opeth gave me a backstage pass to hang out with them before and after the gig. As I walked into their room, a person walked out and we brushed shoulders. I apologized. Maybe two days after I was recalling the ecstasy of being at the gig and being the only one granted the backstage pass, I suddenly recalled the facial features of the person I bumped into and realized it was Steven Wilson!
I am over ten years late coming to PT, I was told by my sons drum tutor to listen to Gavin Harrison in PT to help with his practicing, did he Noooo. Shit I should have pushed him down that road and I wouldn’t just be discovering them now for gods sake. PT are my new band I must get everything by them, so far 5 CD’s in and loving every minute. I kept hearing about Steve bloody Wilson, who is the guy producing everyone’s albums ‘The Steve Wilson’ mix blah blah, then I heard PT. I know exactly who is SW now and my mind has been blown, can’t get enough of him, also following Gav in The Pineapple Thief they are also a tremendous band I am getting into. This song is amazing by the way. I also came across him in JBK he was awesome there too.
That is a performance that just cannot be replicated. Everything is on point there. The crowd, the bass, the drums, all the band. I love the faster tempo and different key. This performance is exceptional!
January 2019....just discovered this band and Steven Wilson...I am ashamed. I passed this music in my youth. But happy to hear now this wonder of sound.
I'm conflicted... Is this gonna be my favorite band? I have about 5 prospects... This decision shouldn't be taken lightly... I'm 32 years old, and I've heard a lot of music, SEEN many musical acts. This, however.... this is special beyond belief... I am considering porcupine tree, my favorite band. They're a true wonder...
Just listening to Porcupine Tree for the first time today, going through some of their songs. Great musicians who play extremely well together (I've heard of Wilson and Harrison before), seemingly totally relaxed yet incredibly tight. They set great moods, often quite soothing. Enough change throughout each piece to not get boring, so their songs don't feel as long as they are. They don't seem to have the compositional brilliance of Genesis (especially early Genesis) or of Tool in terms of creating intense experiences, but on the other hand they seem to be going for mood more than drama, and seem more relaxed than intense. Not all their ideas are equally good, but most are plenty good enough. I don't usually pay much attention to lyrics, but the times I've noticed them I would say... they could be better. :D So a mixed bag with room for improvement but overall very satisfying. Glad I found them.
it might seem awkward .. but while this song was playin in the car i had a race .. never felt so good the calm atmosphere the song made and the adrenaline of the race .. just perfection
I never heard of these guys before today. I suspect that a company of assassins ran out of contracts and decided to form a band. Every spot in the band is occupied by a cold-blooded killer. They just mesmerize and slide the knife in and you never feel a thing. Smooth as silk.
God. I remember an ex boyfriend sending me this song on MYSPACE.. I was instantly in love with the song and with Porcupine Tree. Steven Wilson is always pretty much a badass

My favourite PT song may change, but none shall hurt me as much as Trains.
What
Probably because this damn song is so fucking happy and sad at the same time. ;~;
yeah man trains is rough, so is start of something beautiful (for me atleast)
Try listening to these songs by Steven Wilson (music video on youtube): Routine, The Raven That Refused To Sing and Drive Home ;_;
drive home is probably the most difficult to wrap ones head around, super sad
the drumming is outstanding
