Randolph the frog & jack you sir reminded me that I haven't listened to this masterpiece today. Thank you ;) Gavin Harrison (and all the others on this stage) are straight up musical geniuses.
Sébastien Camiré glad to be of service. You are spot on about their talent. I found them about 2 years ago and haven't been able to get enough. Steven is amazing and has quite the history but I like this group he has assembled the most.
Randolph the frog & jack Yes Porcupine Tree is definitely my favorite band. Their music is so tight and wonderfully structured and executed. Steven is my favorite individual artist, I've seen him twice since the release of Hand. Cannot. Erase. and both shows were fantastic, deep and flawless really (too young to have seen Porcupine Tree though ):
Randolph the frog & jack I had given up on new bands. Gone were the likes of King Crimson, Genesis, YES, etc etc. then several years ago I find Mr Wilson and company. Thank you Rock God's. A musicians band to be sure. Talent, creativity, beauty, structure. If Mozart were alive today this is the band he'd be listening to.
I love how Steven and Gavin are having an all-out, brutal sonic battle of sorts, while Colin and Richard are just super chill and doing their thing on the side. And yet somehow the whole thing stays as tight as Swiss clockwork. It's ridiculous.
I love that first guitar solo because he's just fucking around, it sounds so crazy and desperate, but it fits the song, I think I can hear his anger and frustration
Yep, from what I've seen of the latest gigs which I sadly could not make, just didn't seem as good without him. Not saying bad, maybe also Edwin should be asked back. I'm always watching or listening to the Tilberg sets.
@@Glokmahr63 Gavin has a very methodical and precise way of drumming .. Unsure if this was on purpose for the very subtle noise it made, or if it's just for fun, either way this guy is an octopus.
I'm just a normal guy in a far-away corner of the world. And I must say that this performance is just fucking amazing. Too bad that I know about Steve Wilson and Porcupine Tree a little late.
P.T. Are musician's musicians. Absolutely epic writing as well as tightly wound, perfect collaboration on the part of every band member make indelible live performances and infinitely enjoyable albums. In short...these guys fucking rock in the most pure, transcendental and innovative sense!!!
I'm a bit late, but I just wanted to say that's actually not even a typical 4/4 beat: Gavin is utilizing "metric modulation" there to give the _illusion_ that he's playing a straightforward beat. In reality, starting on count 4 (with a snare drum hit), Gavin actually begins playing eighth-note triplets over the rest of the band--they don't shift subdivisions. He's playing triplets on the ride and using the bell to create a quarter-note pulse by accenting every other hit; this is what gives the illusion that he's playing a basic 4/4 beat along with everyone else. But that's the catch: The pattern he's playing _is_ a basic 4/4 beat, it's just not played in the way that you would expect it!
Never seen such crazy time signatures on those drums... Gavin is a God. Been one of my favourite tracks for years, and this version of it is by far the very best I've ever ever heard.
I love how in the verse structure, Steven's chugging riffs are rock/bluesy, yet that single chord Barbieri plays either side of it makes it much darker.
+manco82 the fact that he doesn't like that style, doesn't mean he can't use some of its characteristics as a tool to write his own songs, if you have listened to blues you will see how the way that's used the pentatonic scale in here, added to the wah pedal and the picking, sounds bluesy
Thankyou Sebastian, yes, it does sound bluesy, even if it isn't Steven Wilson's preferred genre. Blues is the basis of much of western music, of course.
Gavin that licks his finger and swipes it on the drum to make that particular sound is mindblowing, seriously. What a song and what a live performance from the whole band, epic!!
+Maria Diaz couldn't have said that better I never viewed it from that perspective before but makes more sense people with good taste in music unite!!!
Gavin Harrison is the drum god himself. Best Progressive drummer ever. The double bass drumming parts at 8:25 are so fast, its unbelieveable. Dave Lombardo best drummer? I disagree!
Awwwwwwww man! I’ve loved this band for over 25 years but don’t ever remember seeing this footage? This performance is completely off the scale! I’ve come to think of this as one of the lesser albums and it’s awesome! Also I can’t remember SW ever being that good on guitar!! I miss Colin Edwin though he was a big part of their sound.
Love how the guitar + bass parts are straight-ahead rock; but Richard Barbieri's part adds those crucial minor chords, giving a darker flavour. Also, Gavin's drumming always amazing - love the tight playing all around!
At the very end, you saw the bass player protect the drummer, waiting for the signal to throw out the life line and bring the drummer back-on-to the beat to then immediately end the song, the guitar and keys trusted all would be well. Such care.
Wow, I'm absolutely speechless, this is music for the mind, food for my soul. I'm glad not all is lost in a world where so much is synthetic. Gavin makes me never want to stop practicing on the kit. Anyone know if they well ever play again, any tour dates?
I'm afraid they won't be touring again anytime soon, they've been on hiatus since the last tour after The Incident. Good news is, Steven Wilson is touring now to support his last album, Hand. Cannot. Erase., and Gavin Harrison is going to release a whole album of re-imagined PT songs, I don't know if he's going to tour but I really hope so. Anyway, we're all waiting for them to come back!
Well, if you go on Classic Rock Magazine channel on UA-cam you can find some recent interview with very specific question about the future of Porcupine Tree. When questioned, Steven just said that he hasn't immediate plans of coming back to the band in an immediate future, though he's left the door open and he's still in contact with all of the guys in PT. So, I don't think there has been talk about a 2016 tour but... Who knows! I'm pretty sure it's gonna happen someday!
I really like the vibes I get from Porcupine Tree - Ambient, trance sort of Progressive Rock. I think I was wrong to compare them earlier, Dream theater is more of a Progressive Metal. I really like the uniqueness of Porcupine Tree, I've never heard anything like it before - They're one of my current favourites :)
Mr. Gavin Harrison on drums, ladies and gentlemen.
Mr. Gavin Harrison is worth the price of admission alone and I have never been one to center on any drummer before but he demands your attention.
Randolph the frog & jack you sir reminded me that I haven't listened to this masterpiece today. Thank you ;) Gavin Harrison (and all the others on this stage) are straight up musical geniuses.

bloody bang on description of PT tbh :o)
Meet Gavin Harrison, PhD. Mathematics and a part-time Drummer.
Do you have a source on that?
@@ronniekatashan i think he was joking pal

Colin is an amazing musician! Very underrated unfortunately...
He has the most rippin tone I friggin love his bass playing 🤘
The talent shown by each member is outstanding. Brilliant performance!

God was on drums \,,/ !
Yes!
+Jeswin Thomas oh fucking YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS lets rock
he was also singing
I hate it when people compare Gavin Harrison and God. I mean he is good and all, but he is no Gavin Harisson
Neal Peart was not on drums, but a demigod was. :)
Gavin´s drumming is ridiculous, otherworldly, phenomenal, and cannot be described with words...
That kids face at 4:29 is priceless... His face was getting melted....
I love that first guitar solo because he's just fucking around, it sounds so crazy and desperate, but it fits the song, I think I can hear his anger and frustration
Wilson's cacaophonic guitar solo truly embodies everything that hatred is: it makes no sense in its irrationality.
Wow, Gavin knows his way round his kit, some of the time signatures in his drumming are astounding 😳
These guys believe in what they're doing. Total immersion in sonic drama.
Well put!
realer than real
This is better than most love songs, lol
Indian dekh k tumara muh ban jayega but thanks for apriciating the music.hope you have a good day 3 years later.. :-)
good one @Mallika
Lol selena gonez probably thinking about her song " Lovesong"
Man..thats song is full master piece...great bass !
PT is amazing but having John Wesley on guitar and backup vocals is just brilliant imo
I agree they should have asked him back
Yep, from what I've seen of the latest gigs which I sadly could not make, just didn't seem as good without him. Not saying bad, maybe also Edwin should be asked back.

6:47 GAVIN YOU ARE A GOD
+Duali Wolf OMG! That was orgasmic
+Duali Wolf Totally thought he saw a smudge or something while Colin was fiddlin'. Had to watch it again to be sure, haha.
haha just cleaning my drums
didnt really hear the sound but it was definitely not what a normal man would do
probably feasible proof that god exists

@@Azerty42069 It’s one of Gavin’s licks. Joking aside, it’s actually a distinctive part of his vocabulary. It pops up now and then.
Hats off to Steven Wilson’s stage presence. King of progressive rock. Gavin Harrison: the way he drum fills using just sticks. What a genius!
I'm just a normal guy in a far-away corner of the world. And I must say that this performance is just fucking amazing. Too bad that I know about Steve Wilson and Porcupine Tree a little late.

I'm really impressed how this version is much better than studio version.
I love Colin Edwin ! He is always so happy playing his bass ! Look at 5:30 :D
Obvious contentment!😊
I love Steven's amazing solo work, but damn I miss PPT and the amazing killer rock masterpieces!!!!

I like how the drum beat breaks at 07:56 into a normal one for 3 bars and then switches back to the songs normal rythm, EPIC!
I'm a bit late, but I just wanted to say that's actually not even a typical 4/4 beat: Gavin is utilizing "metric modulation" there to give the _illusion_ that he's playing a straightforward beat.

I see a lot of people talking about gavin, but hot damn, Steven is playing like a fking god as well!
Actually Steven dominated the whole song ,but Gavin fillings and drumming skills the best
Never seen such crazy time signatures on those drums... Gavin is a God. Been one of my favourite tracks for years, and this version of it is by far the very best I've ever ever heard.
Still my favorite showcase of Gavin’s talent
That bass player had to hold the rhythm of the song all by himself when all that chaos was happening around him lol. Massive respect!!!
Hatesong is such a Greatsong.
I love how in the verse structure, Steven's chugging riffs are rock/bluesy, yet that single chord Barbieri plays either side of it makes it much darker.
Not bluesy, Steven Wilson specifically has said he doesn't like blues music.

No dominant chords, no blue note... How does this sound bluesy at all?
There is a solo battle going on there between Steve and Gavin.
I'm always left speechless after watching this.
3:30 love how they reprise the Don't Hate Me riff, always made sense since the two songs are kinda like parallels
Gavin that licks his finger and swipes it on the drum to make that particular sound is mindblowing, seriously.
What a song and what a live performance from the whole band, epic!!
It's amazing how this band is so unknown yet so fucking amazing it defines logic lol
