i am right handed, but becoming an amputee led me to play 'left handed'. i have also covered this song, but not as well as Mr. Dette! i agree that it is nice to see some left-handed drummers out there.
Man i remember this like it was yesterday. I was 11 years old when my older brother blasted this shit out of his cassette boombox. Been hooked to metal ever since.
Great!!! Love how he switches from one leg to the other while driving the song. It's something that I learnt from him a while ago thanks to a mail response he sent me back then (almost 18 years have passed since that mail!!!)😄
I also am mostly self taught, and I play Southpaw too, I took lessons for 4 months in order to prove to my dad I was serious about learning because I had already given up on the guitar and he didn't want to waste money on a kit if I couldn't play it like the guitar, which was a 1974 Les Paul that I traded all my hockey equipment for. I got my kit (Tama & Paiste like Dave and Nicko, Paiste 2002 like Alex) on my birthday in March of 1984, the Top 3 albums I played along to the most that first year were Slayer Show No Mercy, Iron Maiden's Piece Of Mind and Van Halen's 1984 but the very first songs I learned in full were Metallica's Seek & Destroy and AC/DC's Rock & Roll Ain't Noise Pollution for our high school talent show, our band was called Broken Coccyx...we came in 6th place out of 10 acts, a girl who sang Time After Time and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper won, breakdancers got 2nd and a classical piano player got third. Typical high school administration bias against rock & roll.
Really nailed that signature "lazy" kick patterns Lars uses. Always felt like they made him stand out compared to what you'd normally expect a thrash drummer to play in the same context
Yep. This is no doubt awesome. But you should also check out Drumscribe. That guy covers so many Metallica songs and note for note, and the drum transcriptions are at the bottom of the screen as he's playing the tracks.
Awesome interpretation Jon. But still....this song remains full of mysteries. I still can't understand fully how James and Lars came up with such bizarre composing feats: the singing in the verse, the tween harmonies after the solo, etc... After all. these years, I still count it wrong more often than not!! Cheers and thanks all these cool videos...
Jon. I start to follow you from now. I'm so tired from thats drummers that sounds like velocity machines without difference in his hits. You are like a metal drummer must be. Thanks you. Cheers from argentina
Outside of maybe the originals, no one plays the big 4 drum parts better than Jon Dette! Side note: I always loved the acoustic intro to Fight Fire With Fire 🔥🤘🏾
Awesome my man 🤘🤩🤘 I recently watched the Metallica @ metal Hammer fest Germany 1985 concert on UA-cam. What a show so full of energy these yoots…just before Master of Puppets was released. When they played Disposable Heroes…Epic. 🤘🤩🤘
I’m glad he understood the double pedal we wanted and made it longer than it was in the song
Best part
Love the fact he is a left handed drummer. Not too many of us out there. Awesome video! 🤘🏻🤘🏻

I'm a lefty as well, but I play the drums like a righty. Learned playing the drums that way, I think.
Awesome cover! Fight Fire was some of the fastest and most brutal stuff back in the day.
Definitely. But Trapped Under Ice was even more brutal.
The Double Section Is Killer🔥🔥🥁🥁
That snaredrum hits so hard I had to have a heart surgery. Thx John 😊
Jon, your drumming sounds MASSIVE and PUMMELING! Love it!!!!

Wow! Watching it again I can see that! Impressive that he can keep the same time with both feet
I think I remember also talking about it during a modern drummer interview...or drum magazine

Really nailed that signature "lazy" kick patterns Lars uses. Always felt like they made him stand out compared to what you'd normally expect a thrash drummer to play in the same context
Thanks for including an extra four of just double-bass after the guitar solo... I've wanted to hear it played that way ever since RTL came out
You're amazing. Looking forward to all upcoming big 4 drumming vids!
the most accurate cover I've seen on youtube of this song yet 👏
Yep. This is no doubt awesome. But you should also check out Drumscribe. That guy covers so many Metallica songs and note for note, and the drum transcriptions are at the bottom of the screen as he's playing the tracks.
If I had your talent.....I would still be sitting here watching you pound the drums. 🤘
