@@user-ll9bq8hv3sYeah he definitely did. Master of Puppets was the last album to actually feature his live drumming in one take on tape. It was only during Justice, St Anger, Death Magnetic, and Hardwired that all his stuff was sadly spliced. Not sure why people are making it up as if it was always edited and he will forever be awful but yeah
I heard a band called Tankard do this song on a compilation album and the drummer did that bell at that exact same spot. That's who i thought of. Pretty good cover btw. You should check it out.
That breakdown/bridge from 3:13 through 4:53 is one of the underrated masterpieces to this day, every bit of those arrangements through there are pure gold.
Ill never forget the day I first heard of you... Soundwave Australia 2013.. I thought who the hell is this guy never heard of him.... then you filled in for Anthrax and Slayer.. well needless to say I never forgot who you were after that... absolutely killed it!!! Both sets of two killer heavyweights.. you are the boss!!!!
Breathless....it's the most faithful and genuine version of the piece....nice work Jon....the memory of Cliff is admirable....Fire, Power and Fury 🔥🔥🔥💪💪💪🔝🔝🔝
The last frame of the video, shows what is like to be a true fan of a band ,the happiness of playing drums and what metal music gives to us. Great drumming as always!
as always great #drum performance by #johndette and as always said, John deserves to be in a huge band as a permanent #drummer hope 2023 it´s yours John #kickass
,..U choose the best ones.. Figth & Damage,..for me ,..always wanna see this ones played like this. thankz ..and U are the best ,..incredible great,.. Would like to ear Lars on this,..for sure he must feel proud and happy like me to watch this. Gracias Jon ...Saludos from Valparaiso,. Chile. hope U do some more of this ,..feels really really great to watch & hear your playing.
Great job, Jon Dette is an awesome drummer! Good to see he stayed in shape and in the gym also as he said he would. It's easy to gain unwanted weight in your 40s and 50s!
It was 6 weeks before their first show in Tokyo, 1986, I was a high school kid and had the ticket, listening to the only heavy metal program of Japanese radio those days, starting at 3am every Saturday, the DJ of the show started telling us that Cliff was killed by an accident. Metallica decided to visit Tokyo with a new bass player and we all appreciated it.
One of things that makes a great drummer is stage presence and the amount of energy given off by the performer. Not many drummers can demonstrate this from behind the kit. You, sir, are amazing. I watch one of your covers or videos every day just to watch you have so much fun behind the kit.
Ufff... thank U 4 this my man... so precise... so clean and respectful... not even Aquiles play it so well... congrats & have your like with my respect.
Really love your covers Jon! And the War Ensemble-"ding" at 1:54 made me smile from ear to ear. Even if I love Bostaph - his playing on Testament's The Formation Of Damnation was awesome - I feel your playing matches Lombardo's groove better (talking about your Postmortem-cover now). Would love to see you cover an Exodus-song as well. Tom Hunting is probably my favorite drummer and he also has an amazing groove when playing. Anyway, great video man. Cheers!
Sup, Jon. My very first concert was Slayer (with you on drums) at the Whisky a Go Go in 1996 when I was 14 years old. I was bummed when Bostaph came back because you were definitely the better drummer. My rehearsal studio is Slayer's old room, over on Parker St. in the city of Orange. Anyway, that's about as solid as it gets for a drum cover. Nice that you've honored Lars' parts. As much shit as I've talked on his drumming skills and issues over many years, he was decent in his prime. Legends of that generation like Lombardo, Hoglan, Menza technically obliterate him, but Lars had a distinct that style was perfect for James. His drum parts were very well-written to suit the music and was an incredibly energetic and passionate showman on stage. He also had one of the most iconic drumkits - his black and white Tama Granstar/Artstar II Justice kit. Keep the drum covers coming.
Hell Yeah. Metal drummer for 35 years,. Love your style. Seen Anthrax a million times, but was excited as hell for the one show when I knew you were filling in for Charlie. My buddies just didn't get it. Lol.
Although Lars can't play it this well anymore it makes you realize he created some amazing drum tracks. Love the intro tribute. Great cover.
Lars never actually played what you just saw.
@@user-ll9bq8hv3sliterally go watch them play this in footage from the Damaged Justice tour. He does this but faster.
Lars still kills it with song.
@@user-ll9bq8hv3s brother, you think the drums just magically appear on all of metallicas albums?💀😂😂
@@user-ll9bq8hv3sYeah he definitely did. Master of Puppets was the last album to actually feature his live drumming in one take on tape. The photo slides at the beginning of the video are really moving, great tribute 🤘🥁🤘
I thumbed on that as soon as I saw it.
Oh man. What a drummer. Also lefty like me. Was a joy to watch. Cliff'em all!
1:54 A little wink to Dave Lombardo on War Ensemble Live there with the bell! Great drumming of course!

Those who know will understand 😅
That breakdown/bridge from 3:13 through 4:53 is one of the underrated masterpieces to this day, every bit of those arrangements through there are pure gold.
Underrated by who?🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's one of the most loved songs in metal, what the hell are you talking about?
@@Hell-Awaits people talk about Master of Puppets, Battery, Blackened, etc. Damage Inc gets overlooked sometimes.
Yeah, and double bass verse too
Kirk wrote that riff.
@@Hell-Awaits true, is not underrated at all, the whole metalcore scene was based on that breakdown.
Excellent drumming!!
Lars was a fantastic composer👍🏼
@Ted's Exotic Cacti nope .
"Was" is the key word
still is numbnuts!!
@@JayCord00
Yes.
@@JayCord00 So I take it I won't see you at the shows in August then?
After 20 years of metal drumming, I wish I could play with at least half of the mastery of this man. That wasn't a cover, that was a studio take.
Dude you just killed my will for playing drums
Ahhh...1986. Puppets forever changed my life at 14!
Stellar job, Jon!!!
Beautiful tribute to Cliff \m/

I heard the entire show from an AUD tape. I was floored bc I couldn't believe the attack on the drums. Dette made that show.!
That double bass run during the last of the song gets my heart pumping every time I hear it no matter who plays it!!
4:52 - The double bass kicking in is just glorious...
Damn. Jon has more power in his right drumstick than I have in my whole drumkit... I love that "pling" at 1:51
All time favorite Metallica song!! Thanks Jon!
Same, nothing excist that compare to that song.
That was unbelievable... Jon has a great sense of humor to boot.

Every one of your videos is superb mate. We need more real drummers creating content like you.
I am hoping you do one of these videos for the song ...and justice for all.
