2:59! Love how the guitars just fade away for a moment for the drums to carry on! I remember listening to this first time on Walkman and I was like FUCKKKKK!!!!
Jason Damico Lars used ride on first two albums a lot but yeah its always good to hear ride and not china . I think he also used it on albums after black album (load , reload I'm not sure which one)
I never comment on people's videos but i just wanted to say how much your videos make me smile from the raw talent and how awesome you are. Youre a god dude. Thank you
Nobody could have filled them shoes. It wouldn't have mattered who they would have gotten, they were never going to measure up. Cliff was their brother, it's understandable. But fuck, not having that bass in this album might be one of the biggest travesties ever, as far as music goes. That choice did this album no "justice", whatsoever.
I haven't ever jumped into that pathetic Lars haters wagon. That being said: this is how this song should be played. Fight Fire with Fire definitely belongs in my top three favorite Metallica songs if not my all time favorite from them. It's actually the second song I ever recorded on a c cassette from radio. I was eleven back then. The song is brutal even in today's standards imo. And the latter part of the solo is just plain beautiful. Getting goose bumps every time I hear it.
ezrazander Not really, I mean you have to have good cymbal technique, because if you break a cymbal, you‘re pretty much f‘ed. I never broke one, but I made sure anyway that I have cymbal that I can afford.Do this just in case you break one.
People can talk shit about Lars all they want. But he has a certain magic I've never heard another drummer mimic. Samus is a beast on the kit. And this cover is lacking the Lars magic
Are you actually able to hear the track the way it was meant to be heard, overcoming the syncopation in the verse parts? I still can't to this day. I'm able to overcome the syncopation in Battery and Blackened, but this song still kicks my ass.
Peperonis That's the way I hear it as well, but all the drum tabs say otherwise. They say the kickdrum is on the beat, and the snare on the offbeat. When you try to listen to it like the that, the part after the verse makes sense. When you play the song slower, you also hear it like that. But at this speed, the way song is sung it seems like the snare is on the beat. But it's only on the beat at the end of the song, with the double bass part. I always lose it when the beat starts right after that snare hit.
I could never understand how James and the other guys keep up with that snare. It's like it switches between upbeat and downbeat in such a disorienting way that it changes the feel of the guitar riff, back and forth. Never heard anything like that before. I guess it's a Larsism that was present back then.
That was Awesome! You nailed that song, and probably added some here & there that ole boy (Lars) never thought to...Drums sound absolutely Amazing, they're just thick sounding and have depth while also being soft (on the ears)...the snare is tight but not "boxy" sounding and dry. Very nice brother👍
It's irregular and just the result of Lars playing what he felt suited the song most. I don't think Lars was thinking in terms of 16th notes or certain rhythms or anything technical at all, he just felt that beat worked best.
The song is syncopated. The main lyrical and guitar pattern is emphasizing an upbeat, so it seems like there is a beat missing when the usual thrash skank beat "flows" back in. Its really your brain overcoming the syncopation when the exit riff is playing between verses. Something similar happens in Battery, and again in Blackened, but the syncopation is easier to overcome in these songs. Check out the "Fight Fire With Fire Meshuggah Version" that some youtuber put together. His version makes the verse clearer to decipher.
Well i am EXTREMELY precious about Metallica, and i gotta admit that i prefer this with the drums being this audible! A lot easier to play along with on guitar when you can actually hear the kick 😄 👍🤘
That double bass along with ride is pure metal essence!
A shame lars removed his ride, it adds so much to double bass runs it crazy.
Lombardo knows
Jens Harald Angel of Deaaath
In that double bass part Lars uses his hats originally. Along with the ride sounds dope too though 🤘🏼
Simulating machine gun fire with his feet.
@@jeremymenning56 sort of sounds like a chopper as well. Truly sick!
Fight Fire With Fiyurrrr!
The way James sings "Fight fire with fire" in English sounds exactly like "Hand me a strong beer" in Danish. Can't unhear :)

GUESS WHO DIEH!?
I remember the moment at 2:50 very well . I was 11 years old and I said to myself : WTF . It was so fast and the drum parts are just amazing
when i was a child i thought they put helicopter sound in the back haha

A ride in a Metallica song? OHHH YURRRRR!
Jason Damico Lars used ride on first two albums a lot but yeah its always good to hear ride and not china . I think he also used it on albums after black album (load , reload I'm not sure which one)
He used it in Disposable Heroes on MoP to ;-)
Victor Perron what is the name of this cymbal on 2:08 , is it hi-hat or ? I'm still newbie at drums :/
Thats a Hi-Hat.
Ever listened Kill/Ride? 😉😎\,,/
This is the song that encouraged me to take drumming seriously way back when I was in middle school.
Playing this at 1.25% speed sounds like when they played this song in Canada 1986. Great show.
That's what coke does to ya, lol.
analogaudio rules gotta love it
1.25%???
SO SLOW!!!!
Try Milan 1987
The double bass sound like the average modern death metal sounds.
I never comment on people's videos but i just wanted to say how much your videos make me smile from the raw talent and how awesome you are. Youre a god dude. Thank you

2:53 I love how it sounds like helicopters, kinda fitting for the meaning of the song and war
This is definitely one of Lars's better contributions to Metallica
Agreed pal he created a Best drum line and Monster too
This is priceless, a Metallica song that Lars uses the ride!
He actually used ride quite a bit up until St. Anger, when he removed ride from his kit permanently
@@XiyuYang Except for AJFA and the Black Album I think?
Still blows my mind this song every time I listen to it.
I used to play this song with one of my past bands. LOVE this track.
So much for no nut November
Dalee2488 LMFAO hahaha ahhhhh thats golden.
Dalee2488 😂😂
Here we meat again
War ensemble next?
Been listening to AJFA a lot recently and this drumless recording really highlights how much the bass is missing from that album
Nobody could have filled them shoes. It wouldn't have mattered who they would have gotten, they were never going to measure up. Cliff was their brother, it's understandable. But fuck, not having that bass in this album might be one of the biggest travesties ever, as far as music goes. That choice did this album no "justice", whatsoever.
one of their best songs from my favorite Metallica album
Excellent job. Great cover of one of the greatest metal songs from one of the greatest metal bands of all time.
I haven't ever jumped into that pathetic Lars haters wagon. That being said: this is how this song should be played. This is so fucking 🔥. You have no idea how many times I’ve watched this over the years.
AMAZING MIRACLE

Have'nt listen to this song for a long time. This is my father favourite song from young Metalica.
Lars is the reason I became a drummer
I became a drummer because of my dad and joey jordison

kind of angel of death the double pedal sequence part 💪🤘
plz do a st. anger song in the future, with the acrylic snare.
I member hearing the solo for the first time stoned it was an awakening.
Lars was great. Period.

If Metallica was ever to remaster this brutal track...just pass them a copy of this. Epic! 🤘🏾🤘🏾💥💥💥🔥🔥🔥
This doesn't even count as warm-up for you, man!
One of your best ones yet
2:59 The part y’all were waiting for...
This does justice for metal heads everywhere 💯😎
Would love to see you do some Kreator stuff like Violent Revolution, System Decay, or Enemy of God.
2:53 Increíble 🤘🏻🖤
NAILED IT.
YES!!! MY FAVORITE METALLICA SONG!!!
Killer cover!! Awesome precision drumming and excellent sound!! 🤘🤘!!
3:02 Here's drums strats to catch up and even up bpm to guitar track.
This god of a drummer has my dream drum kit!
Woooooooooow, just spectacular,I can't say nothing else
People can talk shit about Lars all they want. But he has a certain magic I've never heard another drummer mimic. Samus is a beast on the kit. And this cover is lacking the Lars magic
Where do you record all of this? You either dont have neighbours or you live in the wild
A decent anime fan Soundproof studio I think
Pre 90s Metallica is the shizzle!
Awesome playing, accurate, flawless.
Man this album is amazing! Nice walk in the park for you on the drums.
I needed this.
Wow, I'm actually impressed. Damn that's fucking nuts
My absolute favorite Metallica song. Well done.
Are you actually able to hear the track the way it was meant to be heard, overcoming the syncopation in the verse parts? I still can't to this day. I'm able to overcome the syncopation in Battery and Blackened, but this song still kicks my ass.
The speed feel with double bass drum is hot correct , lars play on Kick R-L-R , you play R-L ....man is simply .
Metallica debería contratar a este baterista.
Meh... Too tight! There's not enough Lars groove in it. :D
Suhanovsky Drumming I agree, m8. Feels like I am listening to a machine. He is great tho.
this is way too on beat. not enough lars groove in it.
Lars groove is code for lack or practice
@Shallex agree with ya bud, sounds like midi drums
Lars was a fantastic drummer.
I can never figure out this tempo...are the snares played at the beats or at the offbeats?
On the beats
Sometimes they're on the "downbeat" i think
But i don't know my music theory!
Peperonis That's the way I hear it as well, but all the drum tabs say otherwise. They say the kickdrum is on the beat, and the snare on the offbeat. Dude Samus your drums are amazing. You even added the ride part for the chorus, which from what I’m aware of Lars doesn’t do.

Anybody have scores of this song? I'm still confused.
Can we hear how your drums sound without the triggers? It sounds great, but I'm just curious
Been waiting for this one!!! And you freakin nailed it!!!!!
Please do angel of death! :D
Man your set up is sick!! Love it, just 1 question, what kind of snare are u playing?
He used samples after recording, this snare is metal machine snare
Lars a genius
Super clean!
SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL
Pre Black Album, Lars was the man. 🤘
Kicks in syncted beats with James riffing
I know lars isn't the best drummer in the world but damn I forgot how awaesome this song is.
I don't 'get' the double base pattern. To my shit ear it seems you skip one or two?
pretty tricky
Lars did. Back then, it was on purpose. Nowadays, it's like his feet have turned to stone or something.
It's irregular and just the result of Lars playing what he felt suited the song most. I don't think Lars was thinking in terms of 16th notes or certain rhythms or anything technical at all, he just felt that beat worked best.

Ghostdialoog listen to the isolated drum track, he does the double bass pattern wrong the whole vid.
Well i am EXTREMELY precious about Metallica, and i gotta admit that i prefer this with the drums being this audible!
