    Say what you want about Ace and his talent. He was the most talented member of the original line up. Had the most successful solo album. Lived the life of a huge rockstar with bands like Judas Priest and Van Halen opening up for him. And he just released a new album.

    Ace's approach to using dynamics during his solos of going from fast-to-slow and using low-to-high phrasing is a cornerstone of the traditional lead guitar break. Such an ICON!!

    When they were all still real hungry...Ace has a voice on guitar, even tho he's using the same penta licks of the day that everyone used, he found a way to sound like himself... he didn't set out to do it he's just got hella swagger and zero f's to give... and, it comes accross. Of the four original members Ace is the best musician hands down, peter could sing, Gene and Paul had their beatle thing but Ace? Had one purple and one orange sneaker... the dude was the 1970s .... one of my main musical dads! Long live ya' Paul (Ace) 😊

      A lot of them weren't alive in the 70's, as you mention -- so they are unaware of the state of rock guitar back then. Back then what Ace did here, and what Jimmy Page did in Heartbreaker (which, at the time, was the required solo for guitarists to learn to sound 'cool'), was really the closest thing to 'shredding' that one could hear on record. It wasn't until late in the decade when Schenker hit, and then Eddie Van Halen changed things forever with Eruption, that what we now call 'shredding' became an art form....

    ACE FREHLEY TAP MASTER!!!

  • @toddcaylor370
    @toddcaylor370 10 місяців тому +2

    Wow. Ok. I love Ace too, BUT it seems a lot of people here are misinformed about the origin of tapping, so feel free to look this up online for clarification. Neither Ace Frehley, OR Edward Van Halen originated the tapping technique. MANY guitar players (even some who primarily played acoustic) were doing limited tapping YEARS before either Ace or Edward. Angus Young for one, played a limited tap during "Baby Please Don't Go", in 1973, and Jimmy Page had been doing it since the mid-sixties. IN FACT, EVH himself said that it was after seeing Zeppelin in '72, when Page taps during the solo break in "Heartbreaker", THAT was what really inspired him to develop his own technique. The primary reason EVH is credited with originating tapping, is because when "Eruption" was heard by everyone for the first time, although many other guitarists utilized tapping in the technique, EVH was the first to do it for complex periods of timing and octave changes--orchestrating long runs that no one had ever heard before. He was FAR from being the originator of the technique though. As was Ace Frehley.

    • @lefty99riffs
      @lefty99riffs  10 місяців тому

      wow a lot of comments on this vid lately I think the overall recent decline of Ace's playing and some newer concert vids blasting him has given this video a new life so to speak since you are clarifying the history for folks here is the correct history on Jimmy Page for you Page actually did not tap in the Heartbreaker solo studio or otherwise...What Page did was push down / bend the strings downward behind the nut before the tuning pegs or use his hand as a capo on the fretboard in front / before his hands playing the guitar doing hammer-ons up and down the neck very sloppy too as more of a showy thing than being musical and Eddie saw that live in person and said what if I tap on the fret-board instead....

    • @toddcaylor370
      @toddcaylor370 10 місяців тому

      @@lefty99riffs I know what you're speaking of and you're correct to a point. What Page did is a primitive form of it--same thing with Angus Young, but it evolved into something more complex, and remember, I'm simply repeating EVH words himself. Edward developed a far more complex two-handed technique later, as did other players like Rik Emmett, who used it in a more "classical" approach but--nonetheless...and we haven't even gotten to Randy Rhoades who was playing the strip at the same time Mammoth/VH was. Edward wasn't the first, he was just insanely good at, and did it for longer, more complex stretches of time. I'll even quote Guitar World :
      "...Eddie might not have been the first, but Eruption was the first time any of us had heard a player tap for that long using both hands at lightening speed"...

    I like KISS’s philosophy - they changed their guitars and basses to fit their look and sound. I think Ace even has his strap on “backwards” so the custom design he had done to it are more visible. It’s backwards, isn’t it? Correct me if I’m wrong. Ace (and to a slightly lesser extent Ted) started it all for me.

      Fyi EVH was so original that tablature was invented to explain what he was doing on the guitar.

    Funny I read about how sloppy his guitar playing was. And yes it is very sloppy but he's made millions of dollars off of it lol. More than any of you haters here lol. Somebody bought thier records and gone to their concerts. The people were not forced to buy or go. So I don't understand all the hatred here. He was cool as fuck and me being 48 I still wanna be Ace Frehley.

    Ace was always kind of a sloppy player and I mean that in a good way and that’s what makes his style so unique, it’s just a shame that Gene and Paul had to get so full of themselves and destroyed a once in a lifetime band.
