- What happened on September 29th in Middle-earth?
Thorin's Company has by now well recovered from their recent adventures. Frodo wakes up in the barrow next to his unconscious friends. He hews the arm of the Barrow-wight and then sings for Tom Bombadil who comes to rescue them. The hobbits reach Bree at night and book a room at The Prancing Pony. Frodo accidentally puts on the Ring in the common-room, causing a big disturbance. Strider joins him for a word after but they're interrupted by Butterbur who brings a letter from Gandalf. Meanwhile, Merry is attacked by a Ringwraith while out for a walk and is rescued by Nob. They make plans to leave with Strider early in the morning. Gandalf reaches Hobbiton and speaks with the Gaffer. The Last Riding of the Keepers of the Rings reaches the Grey Havens. Frodo says his final farewell to his friends and then boards the ship that will take him into the West.
