Grow Potatoes in Winter / Miniature Greenhouse

- We built a small Greenhouse with materials we had lying around, some wire fence, tape, a few heavy duty trash bags and cheap screws. We planted potatoes on Halloween, the same seed potatoes we dug up this summer and left on the shelf to sprout! The cycle continues! We are gardeners through and through, but this is all experimental, and honestly, we have no idea if growing potatoes through winter is possible. What fun would winter be in the garden if we just had to sit and wait for Spring?

Nina, it warms my heart to see someone so excited about her garden. I live in upstate NY so I can't even think about the garden til the end of April. I also like the cob job watering device, way to be an engineer! adapt, improvise and overcome, nice.

When the temp drops make sure to wrap that raised bed, it will help keep the soil alot warmer. Means bigger taters :)

That was fun.
Good to see some life in your experiment. Zone 7A Virginia here. I'm experimenting with over wintering onions, both sets and seedlings. We had a high of 55 today so I uncovered them, feed them and will cover them back up tonight. They looked rough, but still green. The next 2 weeks with temps plunging into the single digits, and possible snow, will tell the story. Keep Planting!!

Congratulations on your experiment Nina! I've seen you catch some super catfish but never anything that you liked more. I like your water wand. I said a while back, give a farmer a problem and he/she will come up with a solution every time. I hope you Josh and the dogs have a very merry Christmas!
Never tried potatoes in winter. When y'all come back to Florida would love to go fishing with you. We also wish you did more videos again

How exciting let’s hope this project turns out. Use a thin foam pad under the plastic I got mine from an old bed I cut the top layer off, the foam was under there. Have t take the foam off daily pia but it’s a shure thing!!!
I still have cabbage, leaf lettuce and Romaine lettuce in one bed. Cabbage is doin' well. Leaf lettuce is OK. The wife and I made bacon wraps using the leaf lettuce and some cherry tomatoes. Very nice!! Romaine lettuce went to seed. Bummer. Oh well. I've never tried to grow this late in the year before. But this year, I thought that I would try to continue a good season. I'm realizing that the fall and winter months are better than the early spring. It may take more time, but the results are worth the wait!

Do not to much chicken poop . it works good at 1/2 table spoon per plant 4in deep water throughout the raise ed beds
You can buy foundation vents that thermally activated and open and close at different temperatures.thats what i use in northern ky.

So this has come up a lot, and the honest truth is, yes Josh bought me this ring, it's a Piece of Eight from a treasure galleon that sank in 1622. However, my ring finger and middle finger are nearly the same size, and depending on weight fluctuations, the ring moves back and forth.
