The porcelain sweater is my favourite knitted item I've ever done. I highly recommend! Do the drop shoulder one, it is so much prettier than the circular yoke one. It's a bit difficult during the first pattern, but if you make it past that, you will love it.
Thank you for this! Put half of them in my Ravelry queue lol. Not to add to your list, but Lydia Morrow's colourwork designs are also amazing (and super size inclusive).
Also have to say that I have this vintage 80's sweater I thrifted with a super cool construction and I've NEVER found a pattern even close to the right shape and going through these endless patterns from the 80's I've found so many similar and I'm thrilled.
I am getting ready to learn colour work soon but I have to admit it’s a bit intimidating - I am the tightest knitter so I think it won’t come naturally to me! But I love colour work jumpers 😍
I'm a tight knitter too! I usually go up a needle size (sometimes two) when knitting the colour-work sections and then I will go back down to the original size for the non colourwork sections
I knitted the porcelain sweater and it turned out sooo well! ❤️ If you like the look of it sloutched down the shoulders like in the picture, I would size up! I did, and I’m so happy I did cuz now it looks exactly as I want it to 🥰 perfectly oversized and drapes beautifully 💖
I have to add that the Sirdar vintage is also a TREASURE TROVE for men/male body designs. Like YES give me matching sweaters for the whole family PLEASE.
i feel like youd really enjoy made in the moments colorwoek designs, they have sweaters with dinos and ducks and stuff on them and they come in both knit and crochet versions
great list! I also want to knit the Teracotta sweater, high on my list. About just putting charts on plain sweaters, my mom has a ton of vintage knitting magazines with different charts and she's able to do that so easily (she's been knitting since she was 5 years old😂), not even with an existing pattern but she self-drafts them in a minute. I find it an amazing skill tbh. She has knit several sweaters for my daughter with that technique!
What an amazing selection of stunning designs ❤ thank you for inspiring me to finally try colourwork 😊 quick hint though: the regular porcelain sweater requires knitting colourwork flat and so purling in colourwork, and the round neck doesn't. So not only a different fit, but a different set of skills required. Just something to consider as a beginner (I would knit the round neck, although like you a prefer the look of the drop shoulder).
I've got two very underrated additions first is the FiftyFifty Pullover by Sara Ottosson (which I'm currently making) and second is the Simone Sweater by Stine Erikstad
Hjertegarn has some cool, new colorwork designs - vandmoderen, julevesten and espresso sweater, and a release of an older design - Færø sweater. I also love Sandnes Garn's new nordic icons collection.
My next sweater pattern is definitely gonna be the Nordic Mix sweater, I've been salivating over that design since it was released but wanted to get better at colorwork before attempting it (also steeking is scary but it'll be so worth it)
So the big difference between intarsia and stranded colourwork is that with intarsia, you are not carrying out 1 second thread on the back of your knitting. So with this lobster design, which is indeed intarsia, you start with your white, than you drop your white and start knitting in red and than you drop your red yarn and start with a new skein if white wool. When you change the skeins at the change colour, you do need to twist the 2 threads together or the frontier between the two colours would be a great mess ( and there's plenty of tutorial telling you how to do that). The other big difference between intarsia and stranded colourwork is the tension of the fabric. With intarsia, you are just knitting with one strand at the time so the tension is the same as your usual knitting. With stranded colourwork, the tension is way different as you are always carrying out at the back one of the colours, so you end up with a far less stretchy knit and the gauge you will obtain WON'T BE the same . So if you don't want to face major disappointments, you need to do your gauge swatch in stranded colourwork. Good designers will tell you which gauge they got in their stranded colourwork. With I tarsia, you can just do your basic swatch gauge and all will be fine.
I think the difference between intarsia and stranded is that intarsia doesn't float the yarn, it leaves the yarn and then starts with another skein of yarn when the color is needed again. Stranded colorwork floats the yarn that isn't being used
that makes so much sense!! so it’s basically just joining a new ball of yarn but in a different colour? does that mean that like a basic striped sweater is intarsia?

thank you so much for such a great explanation!!
Look up cross stitch patterns! The smaller ones can be translated to color work knitting patterns
that’s genius!!
I keep seeing the porcelain pattern and everytime i just know i neeeeeeed to make it

Sorry for a not knitting relevant question, but what lipstick are you wearing? Such a beautiful color. :D
thank you! I’m pretty sure it’s MAC Hug Me 💗
Thank you ❤
I fell in love with the Cutie Tee but I don’t really trust this pattern :(
aw i understand! the pattern was only published a month ago so worth keeping an eye out for reviews as more people knit it ✨
YOU JUST DROPPED THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE A FAMILY TARTAN
hehe yeah most Scottish surnames have an associated tartan!
You forgot to link the retro flower pattern :)
oops thank you! added it now 🫶
