      I too am a senior citizen at the age of 74. I have been knitting since I was about 10 as back on the 50’s and 60’s knitting garments for our family was a necessity.
      I really enjoy watching this podcast and I agree with you that this young lady has a wonderful passion for this craft and is a delight to watch and follow. Happy knitting to you!

      I LOVE these 2 comments~!! I only just learned to knit about 5 years ago when I was 50. I'm self taught and although I'm left handed I decided to overcome that and learn to knit right handed. Most patterns and especially videos are right handed~I didn't want to have to deal with watching it "backwards" and then converting it in my head first~!! I've been told by many that I'm a natural and my work is beautiful. All I know is I LOVE knitting and for the last 5 years I've knit for several hours a day EVERY day. My grand mother was an AVID knitter and tried to teach me when I was a child. The left handed/right handed dilemma made it impossible and I lost interest. If she was still here I think she'd be so proud to see what I can do now~!!

      I ended up getting a little pot with 8 bits of pasta (uncooked obviously 😂) and every time I finished a row and took the pasta out of the pot, increased when they were all out, then did the opposite. It definitely helped!!

    I don’t know if any body else agrees with me, but I actually want people to know my knits are home made and no mass produced. To me it shows that one it’s not cheap, two it’s usually made from natural expensive fibres and three it’s such a talent!! I deliberately change patterns add things so it def looks like a gorgeous home made
    Sweater ❤

    I really liked this video. It's very cool that you made so many of these patterns and all of them are now in one place to reference. I love PetiteKnit designs. They are easy to start your garment journey with. They almost always successfully no matter what size you are, and I'm on a larger size and finding pattern that works for me is very hard. Especially in the beginning when the large or large size is such an investment with time and money. PetiteKnit never failed. That's why I love it. Thank you for this ranking. ❤️❤️❤️

    I love that you made this particular video. So many times I will find a pattern that I love the look of and i buy it only to find out that it's difficult to follow, or I don't like the construction or some other reason that I never knit it. Such a waste of money. I have looked at PetiteKnit patterns a lot and often wondered how they are to knit. Because of this video I can see myself purchasing a few patterns!! Thank you so much Amy.😃

    With the weekend hat, knit a size bigger, or size up your needles half a size. Omit the double knitting, and knit the brim shorter without folding it over twice. I modified my weekend hat like this because I knit it to pattern and blocked it hoping it would iron out any misgivings I had about it. The blocking didn't help and I looked ridiculous with the double folded brim with the double knitting that just made it tight and unstretchy so I ripped everything out to start again differently. I love my modified weekend hat now, and have made several more with the same mods. Ofc that just underlines the point that I don't think it's a great pattern, but I used the cast on counts and the decrease guidelines, so the pattern is worth something - at least to an intermediate knitter.

    • @neknits
      @neknits  10 місяців тому +1

      Great tips! I'll have to try them if I knit another. I agree that having the stitch counts and decreases mapped out for you already can make a pattern worth it. I don't like figuring out those things on my own!

    Great episode Amy. I totally enjoyed it. I made the Jenny Jacket using same yarn you used for the Moby sweater. it's beautiful but it is a heavy, warm garment. The Jenny Jacket has the smocking stitch which is a bit bulky. For future videos I'd like to hear you talk about yarns - how you improved your knowledge and how you go about shopping for it. Thanks for a great video today.

    I appreciate your detailed information about the patterns and yarns you've used which is very helpful if considering knitting the patterns. I went to a local yarn store near where I live for the first time last week. They had some Sandnes Garn Line yarn and the Anker's Summer Shirt pattern was displayed by the yarn. It's interesting, I'd never heard of PetiteKnit until your videos, and now the yarn store had the PetiteKnit pattern by their yarn. I think I will knit that pattern and it was good to hear what you did and didn't like about it.

    Mark rows on garter/icord with a pin. I put a small light bulb pin each time I increased (or decreased) which made it SO SO SOOOOO much easier! I made mine a bit wider and a bit longer... I don't like the 1950s bandana look (or the way it feels on my neck) hence my using the small shawl version instead of the neckerchief. I tie the ends, loop it around my neck twice and, up in Maine, LOVE IT! So it's a do your own thing sort of thing!

    Now I must add the Monday Sweater to my list! The Sophie Scarf gets a D in my book; not only is it not mindless, but it is also extremely boring to knit, in my opinion. I am almost done with one I started a long time ago-I will finish it just because. The Anker Sweater never made it off my needles. Still hanging out somewhere in a WIP pile, because…..you guessed it! The yoke looks so messy to me. The Storm Sweater has been swatched a couple of times without getting gauge, so, there it remains. I do love it and want to knit it. I will try the baby size. Enjoyed this video a lot! Great idea!

    You're honestly so right about the Sophie scarf. I made 2 and I do like to wear them because they're less bulky if I want to wear a scarf when it's not really cold but super windy, but knitting them was so stressful. I had to actually use a row counter for it, and I kept forgetting to add the rows. I think they're so pretty, but I definitely don't think I will make another one either

    Great video! I also been making garments about as long as you have and have made a good number of petiteknit patterns. I love my Oslo sweater and my Monday sweater. My most worn sweater is the Melange sweater. Most recently, I made two No Frills - one with the recommended ease, which is quite oversized, and one where I sized down. I agree with you regarding the Weekend Hat - fun to knit, but a little too snug on my head and the fold doesn't lay quite right. I appreciate the feedback on the zipper sweater and the April cardigan. I will skip the sweater and will probably make the cardi sometime!

    Great video! I have knit many petiteknit patterns and so far they all rank between S and B. My style is very minimalistic so its just a good fit. When it comes to the Sophie scarf it is an S for me. I did make the tiny version twice and I do wear them sometimes as a styling piece. But then I made a bunch more in different sizes and different yarns and also adjusting the increase/decrease rates. My favourite scarf is in cashmere and wraps around my neck twice and then ties. Probably slightly bigger than the larger scarf size. And then I have one that is a bit smaller than the small sophie shawl. Also love that. And my gifted ones are also well loved. I think the pattern is a great one to adjust to your needs and wants. I am going to knit a big one in nutiden for next season.

    Thank you for this video. Many Petite Knit patterns look so similar in the thumbnails in Ravelry, so it is a bother to pull each up and figure out how it is different from another. Your knit parade had very useful descriptions and opinions and helped show the differences. Many thanks! And I subscribed to your channel.

    Hi! I’m a knitter from Sweden and I accidentally slipped over your video. I enjoyed it really much! I’m about to knit a sweater with fingering yarn and mohair (I have already knitted a No Frills sweater) and now you made me curious to try on the pattern for Monday Sweater! Keep on knitting (and posting videos!) Greetings from Anja in Stockholm

    Thank you! I really loved this video. I’ve never knit a Petite Knit’s pattern, although I like them. I think I’ll follow your grading to pick one as my next sweater project.

    Thanks a lot . I am thinking of buying a petiteknit pattern. I don't like over sized patterns. Your video helped me to narrow my choice.

    Thank you for a very thought through & informative video! Loved to hear your thoughts on petiteknit patterns.
    I like the colour of your weekend hat on you - it suits you very nicely! Have you thought of ribbing it back and fix the issues?

    • @neknits
      @neknits  10 місяців тому

      Thanks! I rarely rip back hats because they're such small projects. To remove the double knitting would almost be starting over the entire project! I'll keep it as I do wear it occasionally, just not as much as my other beanies.

    Great video ! And it was really fun to listen to while working on a Sophie scarf 😂 Personally I really like them (made two for my mom and this is the second one for myself), I just write down each row as soon as it’s completed and it’s perfect to have a scarf in my bag when I’m unsure the temperatures. Thank you for this review!

    Awesome episode! I'm always left wondering how different the PK patterns are, really, based on photos alone. Now I know a bit more about the construction differences that'll help me decide which to knit in the future!

    So far, I have only knitted one pattern from PetiteKnit, the Sunday Cardigan. It is a great pattern as well!
    I would like to see a video in which you rank your sweaters, cardigans or yarns! 😊
