That was a good outline of how to die on the lakes! Many before you thought they'd be fine too and weren't as fortunate, ten minutes in the water and your new home is the icewater mansion!
Love the old school setup, haha. That's pretty much what I learned on with a motorboat as a kid- we had a 14' 50's era boat with an old Johnson 5hp outboard for our little lake in back of where we lived. If you really want to get spendy with an anchor, I highly recommend a 12lb digger anchor. Two are even better- they cost about $100 apiece, but they hold your boat rock solid. The boat I use these days is a far cry from the one I learned on- it's a 20 year old Alumacraft with a 50hp merc 4 stroke tiller. I have a livewell, open cockpit, all the bells and whistles available at that time and are now standard on most new boats. Just wished I had a bow mount trolling motor on it, lol.
Hey mister, that’s a no wake zone! 😂😂. Just messing with you Captain 👨✈️ 😃. Glad you made it out and caught dinner 😋😋. See you out there soon!!!! Thanks for sharing 🎣🎣🎣
Great job getting out your one die-hard fisherman, but next time in cold water drag a friend along, you don't last long in that water, have a great season
you definitely got some balls bro I actually bought my boat in Sandusky the day you were out and let me tell you bro it was freezing lol i would have never went out that day

Haha thanks man! I made the channel originally to just store all my “home movies” of our up north land. The fishing stuff I figured I’d just throw in for fun. There will be plenty more coming now. Fishing has really picked up here. Our land videos are fun to watch too. Just some good fun in the woods. There’s lots of fishing in those videos too
That's a braver man than me on that bike. Two wheels on the highway in that weather... woof. I've never ridden where it snows. I think I'd wait for later in spring. But I WOULD get out to fish. That looks like fun.
I left Cleveland almost 50 years ago. Back then the lake was a cesspool, full of pollution from the steel mills etc. That was about the time the toxic slick on the Cuyahoga river caught on fire! Times change, looks like the lake is a lot cleaner now then way back when I was there. Miss catching those walleyes! Damn good eating fish. Didn’t they used to call them blue pike?
There is a nice trench that is out in front of the pier at the state park there that the walleye like to hang out at. It about100-200 yards out from the rock wall there where you come out on the lake. It's not real deep there maybe 8-12 feet deep but the walleye seem to like it there.
Absolutely. Outings like this are quadruple check days on all equipment and conditions. In this video I was only on the water for about an hour. The moment I notice it picking up at all, I leave. The snow coverage makes it seems like I’m a ways off shore, but in reality I was within 1/4 mile or so. You could see shore in person. I troll superior from ice out until freezeup in this boat much more often than Erie. It’s where I cut my teeth in this setup

fan4life 34, I agree. It's not about the fishing, it's about surviving for your family with water temps in the 40 degree range depending. I admire their love of fishing, but fish on the Maumee River right now. Great catches. If you land in Lake Erie and are stuck in the water, you'll be unconscious in about 30 minutes or so. Your message (Fan), was be safe to the rest of us. Great advice.
@@blakemacdonald71 I am aware of these types of techniques to prepare for an unexpected exposure. This is not a criticism, it's an observation and an educational type of exchange. How many of us have read those news article where someone in a small boat or kayak, went out on the lake on a sunny 75 degree and capsized into 45 degree water and died. Experienced boaters are aware of this, but most who are not experienced do not think of the safety factor. I appreciate your comment.
