Ireland well deserved as winners, but that slack near the end will not please Easterby and the coaching staff. Giving up 2x tries like that, which gives England a LBP could be crucial for their chances to win the title. Should not have allowed that, especially when the game was done once it was 27-10.

I think overall you could see england had done their homework, they worked so so hard and it paid off, mostly in the 1st half, i feel that Ireland werent really in sync with eachother, silly errors etc but thats how good you have to be against Ireland, to play the way england did and still only be 3 points ahead at half time just shows how good Ireland are. They keep you within reach and then at the drop of a hat can turn on the A-game and just get the job done. I was annoyed how Ireland leaked two easy tries at the end, a bit of "well the jobs done" attitude, so keeping focused until the end and not losing stupid tries would be nice. Otherwise I was impressed.
Excellent review. I won't lie, I was a bit worried after the first half , but I did sense a change early enough in the second half and a big difference was the Ireland bench made a bigger impact than the English one. I do feel England have a lot going for them though and though Ireland slackened off a bit after the bonus point win, I think England definitely deserved their bonus point. It also might work in Ireland's favour next game with England hosting France, if they can pull of a win there it could ultimately help Ireland's championship chances with that bonus point giving the English lads something to aim at. Great game and well done to both teams for the most competitive game of the weekend.🇮🇪🏴
I was worried about the back three, all off various spells of injury and none really and truly tested. Especially in the first half when England were challenging in the air, our back three didn't perform that well and although they were better in the air in the second half, you'd wonder why England largely gave up on that tactic which had worked so well for them. Keenan was fine, but he is never an attacking threat, which I think a weakness for us. Lowe was really, really good so he pleasantly surprised me. His inside step before the offload to Beirne was fabulous, got two defenders to commit to the right leaving Beirne completely open. Really class, one of his best outings in some time. Hansen ok, but I think we would be better served by Nash, who has more speed and better vision to make things happen on the wing. He's been very hard done by and it hasn't served our national team well. Prendergast was pedestrian at best and I still fail to see why he is considered the wonderkind. Missed two kickable shots at goal in a crucial game, got slaughtered on defence and failed to spot a massive opportunity about seven metres out to just turn and run to the try line. When Crowley came on, the whole tempo of the match changed and it was as if the idling motor finally switched to 'go' mode. Conan helped in that regard, as did Sheehan ... fabulous to see him come on with such form, although in fairness Kelleher had done very well. For full disclosure, Crowley is from my home village in Cork but he is truly exceptional and given a platform like Prendergast has at Leinster it would be obvious to even the most biased observer. I don't know, maybe the role of second half rescuer suits Jack, but I doubt it and we're squandering opportunities in the time he is not on the pitch.
The last two English tries were baffling from an Irish perspective, we totally switched off. That said, England really showed up and had us on the back foot. Way more energy and aggression, Ireland looked disinterested for the first half
Itoje didn't touch him.... much. Great game, thought Ireland showed a lot of composure during English defensive pressure. And their set piece seems to have improved a lot since November tests
I can't understand why England didn't attck the line out. Ireland worst area of the game for the past two years and they never really contested. Strange.
As an Irish fan I was frustrated for the first 30 minutes, but then we started to play like in 2023. It did not give any result due to handling errors but you felt that it would eventually. For me the second half showed an Irish rebirth and I think that we have now found our confidence and will be a force in this competition.
@@davidloughlin2238 for me it was like a game of red rover. England defence and tactics were spot on but James Lowe was on a mismatch and Ireland exploited that area multiple times including the aki try.. Without that mismatch we were in serious trouble.
@gerardkelsh1011 I agree, England are on the up. They just need to keep things going for the full 80 minutes. I think this side could be world beaters.
Absolutely correct on the ref call on Itoje - not that it made a difference on the end result, however we more people refereeing the game than ever before. Should of been spotted and reversed, they would of got way more credit if they had done this, except now there will be even more criticism and rightly so.
A tough watch. Hindsight says that Prendegast/Crowley are learning to run the attack that Sexton made his own over a career, and didn't quite click early doors. It was all a bit clumsy in the first half, with signs that they had the potential to purr. Then it got briefly classy in the second half, and squeaky bum time was engaged late on. Still, banana skin dodged. On to the next one. It also felt with the ticky-tacky lineout pen that the ref was fed up with Itoje for whatever reason. Like it was the kind of thing he'd have got away with if his team hadn't been bleeding pens throughout.
It can look clumsy & contrived esp when there's no threat of a green shirt running from deep. My prediction is thst one of these days a team is going to pass it about in patterns of ludicrous complexity like a hyper-charged Fijian 7s team doing 200IQ choreographed rugby tiki-taka. There'll be no more small 9s and 10s to fend & bump off. Defences will become impenetrable. Referees won't even be able to give on/offside the traffic of bodies will be so complex. Either that or it'll just turn into League, yawn
Very enjoyable game and a big momentum shift for Ireland going forward. Experience told in the end and Ireland has that in spades. The bench made a big impact when they came on also. Brilliant try from Sheehan at the end. He is a class act. Definitely some green shoots in this England team but they're not quite there yet imo. They will put it up to France no doubt but it's unlikely they'll win it. From what I have seen this weekend it's looking like it will be a two horse race between Ireland and France but it's early days yet. Roll on next week for Round 2 where all three games will be huge for the teams concerned.
England had a really great start. Ireland were very disjointed for the first 30 minutes or so. The ref had an interesting game. If I was an English fan (God forbid!), I'd be disappointed with how the game was reffed. Ireland were much better in the second half, until they fell asleep a little in the last 5 minutes. France look the pick of the bunch this year, but Ireland could still do it. Great to have Dan Sheehan back.
Typical English review revert to the french being great to try excusing what’s coming for you in the future, Ireland trashed England and if your believing that wales at home are that much better than England it shows how crap you really are.
Just back from the game. I enjoyed it. Disappointing to concede two soft tries at the end after a great half, but credit to England's defence for most of the game. I thought it was a bit foolish to throw Prendergast into the deep end with this game, Crowley should have been on from the start.
I don't know, I think the shove call was a good catch on Itoje. He didn't just push "someone" he pushed the jumper, as they were ascending. Though the action was subtle it can still disrupt the take, and potentially create risk for the jumper when they descend. There's a reason it's not allowed.
It felt like England have made big strides. Their blitz defence was making it hard work for Ireland. But Ireland seemingly had a game plan designed for it, just tire them and let them work in the first half and then up the tempo once they tire. Riskly but it seemed to work! Really disappointed that they had the singer at the start. Far prefer hearing the players singing proudly. Really surprised that the Irish have decided to copy the English on that front!
England came out with huge intensity in the first 20mins. You could see them tire out after that. They couldn’t sustain it. The only team I’ve seen sustain that kind of intensity are the All Blacks. Ireland played an even tempo and waited. No panic. Top marks to Englands defence in the first half. Ireland sat on their try line three four times and got nothing from it. That was a huge effort from England. Those last two England tries were a disgrace by Ireland. That BP could bite them in the ass. What were they thinking?
Lowe was on it my MOM for sure. Ringrust still rusty. JGP a few poor passes but ok. Prendergast..gets a passing grade is all. Henshaw Aki and Bealham all brilliant once more. Can we please select a few more Connacht lads on this team?!!
Admire England's philosophical commitment to the Ordinary. Bit how tiring it looks! Thankfully they are well coached. Who doesn't love a hearty dollop of Ordinary? P.S Smith always looks so dejected after cocking up a tackle, you'd almost feel sorry for him.😢
Not perfect in sense of either side but perfect in sense of intensity of a test match! It had everything, Experience overcame youth today! Hugely entertaining game. ÉIRE ABÚ!
Not sure Murley fully understands the laws of the game, he made a meal of clearing the ball from his own line TWICE! Very odd but Ireland will take it, up til then England looked pretty good
Been saying that for a few years. World beater on the front foot but really weak in defence. He will definitely tour with Lions but i hope his defence improves as it could be costly to the Lions. England must stick with him though as he's a game changer and can unpick defences which some teams cant, notably Wales. Good Ireland 60 mins and they have a great chance now going forward. Enjoy
Anyone else think that when Mark aka 2 cents tells his kids if they keep messing hes turning the car around if they do it again that car IS turning around 😂
Look as an Irish fan I do think there were a few soft calls in Ireland favour however like I said I think they were soft not wrong, the one my mind goes to is the itoje push in the line out which is correct call but soft as fuck. England fans instead of blaming that blame some of the horrible individual decisions some of your players made which lost them the game I go to their new winger 11? (I believe they said it was his debut) when he didn’t just take the 22 drop out and was carried back into touch.
Yeah man even if the ref was busting out a few odd calls (happens every game) - he wasn't responsible for the Murley meltdowns in backfield, gap between Cunningham-South/Genge etc
The officials did their best to keep England in that game. Some of the calls were outrageous. There is a serious need to have a look at the state of what they are doing it’s just not good enough. These people are getting paid as professionals and acting like it’s a Sunday league game.
Are you having a laugh! The ref was atrocious and gave Ireland all the help they needed. Where was the forward pass to genge? Where was the push by Mario in the line out? Absolutely shocking, i said after the france v wales game, you can't have refereeing that favours one team over the other and unfortunately we've seen 3 games with a distinct home team bias.
@@simonjeffs75you're deluded if you it was 1 way. England got away with murder with the ref, a lot of offsides, over the top of the rucks collapsing mauls, slowing down the ruck literally on the wrong side interfering with the scrumhalf. Then the ref blowing very quickly for English turnovers, like literally straight away.
@@simonjeffs75Ireland didn’t need help. If he’d looked at all the late hits left on Prendergast and didn’t allow so many cynical England penalties in the 22 before showing a yellow, Ireland would’ve scored another few tries.
Let's get real no progress since fast Eddie left England show Bulldog spirit especially in the first half but defending is tiring and eventually you run out numbers . Where do England go from here I'm afraid France next who will be hungry for tries at Twickenham. RFU will have to act at the end of season an employ someone with more experience and a winning CV like the like English FA have finally done by appointmenting Tomos Tuchel or its going to more misery for us English fans 🧐🌹🏴🏉
Hi mate... That itoje penalty was annoying...i understand refs can mistake... But in this era of tmo? For me this weekend started with a lot of plays that you have the feeling something wrong happened, and tv never showed the replay, in the case of itoje "foul", i think they show it like 6 times expecting to show the foul, but it was clearly inexisting, well, the same old song
Yeah man I don't get it either... I get we don't want the TMO in the refs ear questioning everything... but I also don't get how that got penalised in the first place...
I like your remarks about the singing - shit, I thought I tuned into an old repeat of a Dubliners concert, with the Pogues as a support act. Anthems are a load of crap, especially when Irish are playing, three, four, on on - but why no NI prody songs, just rebel ones? To be more representative, there should a kiwi tune at least in there.
England were very good in the first half but Ireland stepped it up in the second half and they were too good for England. We seemed to say here have two tries England at the end but a good win to start off the 6 nations.
How many anthems do Ireland get these days? I have to admit that England look pretty high on potential, seemed to win most physical battles, which bothers me more than a little. Thank goodness for their new winger, and the mobility of Steward at full back.
Ah man I’m Irish I don’t even know and the N Ireland anthem in football I think is Danny boy so if you think the whole island 3-4 because some up north would sing god save the king. Then the solder song. Then rugby song. Then NI football team so 3-4 anthem in my view. I could be wrong. But people born on the island of Ireland could in theory sing that many. Must be a record. I’m ment to sing the solder song but don’t know the word cuz it’s in Irish so I pretend when I’m at a game🤫
Ireland has only one National Anthem but to appease a certain number of people in Northern Ireland which is part of the UK (but united in Rugby), Phil Coulter was commissioned by the IRFU for the first World Cup in South Africa to compose an anthem to show the unity. Both are now sung. Meanwhile England uses the National Anthem/Church of England hymn of the United Kingdom, God Save the King.... unless you count "Sweet Chariot" as an National Anthem.
Love Irelands attack when they hit full flow. England stuttering, But in their defense i personally would penalise Ireland off the park 😂😂 tackler always rolls North/South instead of East/West if they roll at all and when they attack the ruck.. the way they swivel their hips around the side and end on the opponents side of the Ruck 🤮

Lowe is the perfect example of why you need a world class winger that can make stuff happen.
E.g. Cheslin Kolbe
Thanks!
Cheers mate!
Great to see Ireland's stamina and game plan paying off. The score definitely flattered England.
Amazing game!
Prendergast needs a sammich. 😂😂😂😂
Astounding Irish second half no?! Lowe fab.
Yeah man cracking to see Ireland in full flow again
Love the shirt
Yeah winner for the review!
@@TwoCentsRugby the green suits you!
Itoje didn't touch him.... much.
Great game, thought Ireland showed a lot of composure during English defensive pressure. And their set piece seems to have improved a lot since November tests
He definitely touched him, not sure if it'd say "push" though 😅
@TwoCentsRugby never give a ref the opportunity to blow the whistle
England brought a lot of physicality in the match but the skill set between the 2 sides was night and day.
He didn't do anything 😂
Thanks
Much appreciated!
Time between national anthems and kick-off is not the time for singing! It is of course the perfect time for a little on-field dance?
Nah the Aussies used to do Waltzing Matilda - but I forget it if was just the track or actually the anthem singer going for another round 😅
Delighted Bundee Aki got a try he plays his best every game.
That was Paul Byron singing the start, pain in the arse now pain in the arse when we were in school!
@@gavshan and slightly off key sadly
🤣
He was actually one of the original singer of Irelands Call
Well played England. always turn up in Ireland and are full on, experience won the day over youth. Great test, loved the intensity as always.
Ireland are back baby 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
I'm not so convinced we can beat scotland!
@@shawk2832 Scotland struggled against Italy
@@laoch5658 You haven't play Italy yet
England had a really great start. Ireland were very disjointed for the first 30 minutes or so.
The ref had an interesting game. If I was an English fan (God forbid!), I'd be disappointed with how the game was reffed.
Ireland were much better in the second half, until they fell asleep a little in the last 5 minutes.
France look the pick of the bunch this year, but Ireland could still do it.
Great to have Dan Sheehan back.
Hard to say France look the pick of the bunch when they played Wales . I still think Ireland look the most dangerous after that 2nd half
Interesting. Someone down below said that the ref kept England in the game. I unfortunately missed it so I have no opinion
Typical English review revert to the french being great to try excusing what’s coming for you in the future, Ireland trashed England and if your believing that wales at home are that much better than England it shows how crap you really are.
@davidwalker2402 I'm Irish! 😂
Ben O Keefe was visited by the ghosts of three Irish internationals and warned about his eternal soul the night before.
Didn't he look tired 😂😂😂
Just back from the game. I enjoyed it.
Disappointing to concede two soft tries at the end after a great half, but credit to England's defence for most of the game.
I thought it was a bit foolish to throw Prendergast into the deep end with this game, Crowley should have been on from the start.
I don't know, I think the shove call was a good catch on Itoje. He didn't just push "someone" he pushed the jumper, as they were ascending. Though the action was subtle it can still disrupt the take, and potentially create risk for the jumper when they descend. There's a reason it's not allowed.
Agree. Very easy to not get penalised for this, just don't touch the jumper
James Lowe was incredible. How was he not man of the match! Ireland good in 2nd half but lots to work on for R2.
That kick was comedic. You didn’t miss.
Bundee for Irish president!
Haha where going to drive the car home, empty threats, brilliant. :)
As an Irish fan was a good game but not a great game. Crowley made the difference in second half .
Sheehan was the biggest game changer off the bench, but yeah Crowley was very good too
The pressure that was put on by both teams and the resulting errors, many of which were forced errors, possibly should've been acknowledged.
With England happy to commit penalties on their own lines in the first half, I thought they were going to beat us. Was tough going for a long time!
Very odd but Ireland will take it, up til then England looked pretty good
the singer was singing fields of athenry towards the start of kick off ... to get the crowd hyped.. famously sung by irish fans in any sport
Yep, just like the wallabies would sign "Waltzing Matilda" after the anthems before kickoff.
Yeah that part I got... I just haven't heard it done like that before 😅
@@TwoCentsRugby I agree. Let the fans create the atmosphere. It's not like the crowd weren't ready to roar their heads off.
For all the talk of how good Marcus Smith is going forward, he’s truly awful in defence.
Enjoy
Crowley should have started. Would have been at least 31-22 at the end if he had.
as an England fan I can't wait for us to learn to kick the ball more
Yeah 38 is actually MORE than usual!
Anyone else think that when Mark aka 2 cents tells his kids if they keep messing hes turning the car around if they do it again that car IS turning around 😂
I see you changed your Jersey...😉
Yeah underdog for the preview, winner for the review ;)
@TwoCentsRugby lol
I'm Irish and yeah don't think itoje did anything worth penalising in that lineout
Thank the ref for this one he let both teams play
Iam so proud of ireland it is hard to explain ireland you were brilliant brilliant and brilliant that's it .
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
If he’d looked at all the late hits left on Prendergast and didn’t allow so many cynical England penalties in the 22 before showing a yellow, Ireland would’ve scored another few tries.
what on earth are you on about
Irish Bench won it. Clarkson stood up to Genge. Crowley, Conan and Sheehan blew England away
Good lad.
Sheeham mafe huge difference but crowley brought a steadfast tothe ga
Kiwi boys done good.
And why do think kiwis opt to become Irish and play for Ireland?
Let's get real no progress since fast Eddie left England show Bulldog spirit especially in the first half but defending is tiring and eventually you run out numbers . Where do England go from here I'm afraid France next who will be hungry for tries at Twickenham. RFU will have to act at the end of season an employ someone with more experience and a winning CV like the like English FA have finally done by appointmenting Tomos Tuchel or its going to more misery for us English fans 🧐🌹🏴🏉
2nd hand dominene Eire let the poms off the hook.
I think England overextended in the first half, line speed was good but always offside and dead by second half, tactics need reworking
I am never happy with refs, I know it is wrong, but they all seem to be pedants, but today was a complete breakdown of authority!
Home túrf defense prevails bar Italy.
Think the scoreline was an accurate reflection. England are a coming team.
it wasnt. ireland missed about 3 try scoring oppertunities in the first half and had one ruled out
You must eat, drink, and sleep rugby 🏉 don't ever give it up 😊❤🎉😊😊
I like your remarks about the singing - shit, I thought I tuned into an old repeat of a Dubliners concert, with the Pogues as a support act. Anthems are a load of crap, especially when Irish are playing, three, four, on on - but why no NI prody songs, just rebel ones? To be more representative, there should a kiwi tune at least in there.
James Lowe was the difference…. He made so many opportunities…. How good would he be with pace….
Two anthems , Amhran na Bhfiann and Irelands call , same as always.
The irony. We'd have less but for the oppo.
@@romanutd Two anthems at home. Only Ireland's call on the road.
They must bring back Eddie Jones 😂😂
Emerald !!
Love Irelands attack when they hit full flow. England stuttering,
But in their defense i personally would penalise Ireland off the park 😂😂 tackler always rolls North/South instead of East/West if they roll at all and when they attack the ruck.. the way they swivel their hips around the side and end on the opponents side of the Ruck 🤮
Sorry now Mark, just call a spade a spade. England had their asses handed to them in the second half. They were gifted two soft tries at the death but the outcome was never in doubt.
Glad Ireland finished on top and yes there were odd refereeing decisions going both ways .On to the next one.
Ireland dominated the second half, but they were playing with 16 men.
Yeah, the home crowd always helps.
❤❤🇮🇪🇮🇪❤❤
England as usual bottled it, had the IRISH caged for 40 minutes then boom
