England caught us on the hop last year. We were expecting them to kick the leather off the ball and they didn’t. You could see the confusion on the pitch when England started to run, recycle and offload. I don’t think the boys thought England had it in their locker. Hopefully we won’t be as, dare I say it, complacent (arrogant?) this time round. England have some serious players and if it turns into a shoot-out, we need to bring intensity to the breakdown and snap in our attack.

    • @paulcostello1807

We are all waiting with baited breath to see what Ireland attack turns up.
Has the attack come on has their timing improved? Will the lineout function well?
Will Ireland get better this six nations stay static or go backwards.
I'm confident of an improvement going on Easterbys past record but I am less certain about the attack.
I expect France to beat us in Dublin and possibly Scotland to beat us over there.
Hope I wrong about everything 😂

I think the Irish provincial half back pairings are a big factor in the selection. Murray was never going to be the starting 9. But bringing him and Crowley on together for the last 20 could be pivotal.

So Mark you're going to be on night shift for the next two months eh?
Good on ya man. I don't know how you manage to get up at stupid o'clock in the morning, watch the games and then 10 or 15 mins later you upload a video giving us the details of not just how the games went but give us all the stats as well. That's pretty phenomenal man! What are you putting into your coffee? 😀
How many other kiwis in NZ take the 6N as seriously as you do and stay up all night and watch the games live? Or do they prefer their beauty sleep? More than likely the latter and that's understandable because if I was living in NZ that's what I would do and catch the highlights the next day.
Anyway, for me I reckon Ireland will win this one but it will be tight...5-8 points.

    • @TwoCentsRugby
      @TwoCentsRugby  8 днів тому +2

Haha man it's a great time of year isn't it! I would say most Kiwis don't follow it intently. Those who do will likely watch late games live - eg. France v Wales is 9:15am for us here, but the 3am/5am games... no way many are getting up for that!

Ireland lack World Cup dominance, that’s what prevents the above.
I personally think Ireland are going to clean house and rip up the game plan next year so they really peak for the right time.
That would mean last year/this year they may lack results.

Ireland should triumph at home, but only by a small margin. Would not be surprised by a final score with the winner only 2 or 3 points ahead. Love that pair of centers Ireland have. England has Marcus, so anything can happen. This should be a close competitive match.

Looking forward to this one. Imo Ireland's not far off from getting back to level of dominance. A couple of blips last year after rwc23, and caught on the hop by motivated NZ. A win in SA is no joke, possibly their set piece is a worry.
But England is a tough day out and make all their opposition fight for everything. Booked the tv for Sunday morning

  • @colstoun4762

I thought as an interim we could have seen some real left field picks. This 6N is all about the lions and Farrell knows what these guys can offer. Would love to have seen a few rogue picks to offer others time to shine.
Although it’s a very unpopular thing, I Still think Finn Smith should be 10 and M Smith at 15. You can’t imagine an ABs or Wallabies side from the last 20 years not managing to get their best backs on the pitch, I think it’s such a NH way of doing things not to get M smith in and let him be play maker from 2nd or 3rd phase ball when the field is broken, in the same way Beale used to for the wallabies also playing 10 for the rag’s or Mackenzie for the ABs. Both Beale and M smith are pretty similar players in my mind complete mavericks and with even an ounce of space can cause carnage, but test defences for the first few phases just don’t offer opportunities like club rugby.

I concede that they still want to win the tournament but I think this would be the best opportunity for them to build squad depth with over 500 caps on the bench this is an OLD squad. On the three in a row thing France did 4 in a row between 86’ 90’

England can definitely beat us and if they do they could win this years championship. If we show up like we did in November we will lose and deserve to. What does give me some confidence though is the form of the Irish teams compared to November. Irish provinces have been playing well in European competitions and a majority of the selected team seem to be peaking now. The only one I have issues with is Ian Henderson who hasn't played well in years and should definitely retire.

As an Irish supporter, the answer is yes England could well beat Ireland. When ye count England down and out, that's always when they turn up and break your nose to punish ye.
The teams history is one of the oldest rivalries in rugby of 150yrs, and obviously Ireland lossing more times than we won.
It's always sweet when we win and always no surprise when we lose to England. Never count an English rugby team washed out.

I'm Irish and I can see England winning this game. Ireland are just too conservative and dominated by Leinster when there are players in better form being ignored. Baird being promoted straight from AIL to starting in the 6 nations for example. Hansen's been poor this season, Prendergast was poor against Australia and ropey in the Champions cup, but Crowley is dropped purely because Prendergast plays for Leinster.

What a stretching argument. Baird was getting a run of games, got a concussion and played 40 minutes in the AIL to get some minutes into his legs before returning and putting in a shift Vs LaR. The form argument holds from before the Nov series when a lot of these players hadn't played much and were off form, but have you seen how well some of these lads have played in the last few weeks?? If you think Sam was poor in the Champions cup, I'm not sure what to tell you. He's assisted the most line breaks of any player in HC this season, scored twice Vs Bristol, was solid Vs LaR and was pivotal Vs Bath creating a number of tries. Hansen has been poor enough yes, and Nash probably deserves a spot.

Fair enough but England under 20s much more experienced this year with a number of players in the Premiership and on their second year in Under 20s. Ireland players have not played at all in URC and is more or less a brand-new intake. I don't think we will finish above third this year but will be better next year.

Agree. That u20 team is like a cake mix it's just not baked yet, but in time it will be just right..

That was Ireland's first home defeat at u20s in 7 years!
Having said that, the better team won on the night.

@@amancalledconor I hope the seniors don't follow suit. However, the English team was much more experienced. They brought in Pollock who was in the seniors and a number of their player's feature regularly in the Premiership. None of our lads had that type of exposure. Also, a good few of the English lads played in last years under 20s whereas our lads are fresh.
