It's so weird to see Manectric without Flamethrower and Overheat, at least by Gen 6 with the Mega Manectric did feel worthy of the Slow growth rate, that thing was a beast and could actually be used for VGC on rain teams and standard teams since it provides both Intimidate and unmissable Thunder under the rain and also has Snarl which is fantastic in VGC
The most optimal way to play a solo challenge is probably to support its available set-up moves rather than its inherent superior attacking type. HP water is great for the ground and steeel types plus rain, but I wonder though if perhaps having Howl + a physical HP would be better.
I kinda agree with you: largely I love the Gen 3 designs, but there are some really strange over-designed ones and to me, Manetric is one of them. You've been doing these runs for a while so I guess you know how to do these better than me but in my opinion: 1) HP Water is nice for Camerupt which I know you struggled with but it's basically not as good as Grass or Ice for anything else. In particular, Ice would have helped for a lot of Pokémon you had a problem with. A regularly effective Thunderbolt is better than a super effective Hidden Power. 2) I think you were completely paralysed by fear of missing against Sydney; it REALLY wasn't worth keeping Shock Wave, especially if you went for HP Ice. 3) Your movesets against Steven were hilarious. I do kinda think with Slow rate Pokémon, you really can't use rare candies earlier than the champion. I don't know if you do use the Pokénav Trainer Eyes, but the route with the day care is pretty good experience once the teams get better from a few battles. I think it's better to do training then using that, although I do appreciate the late Fly badge makes this a bit of a pain in the butt. Worth experimenting with though at least. It's such a shame it doesn't get Flamethrower in this generation!
That Steven battle was an emotional roller coaster. Funny thing about Manectric, in gen IV they decided all of a sudden that it should get Fire moves as coverage, so it can get Flamethrower in those games which helps a lot with coverage. It feels like there's a giant gap in effectiveness between Electric types that have solid coverage moves (The Electabuzz line comes to mind with Ice Punch) and those that are stuck with mostly Electric.
Love this Scott! From the thumbnail and the tone of voice in your first couple of lines in the video- I can tell we don't like Manectric... and seeing the slow growth rate I am feeling like I can see why before we even get into thr playthrough lol!!!
Legit love that between noting the benefit of hitting Lv.20 ahead of Roxanne and pointing out that Manectric only had hit Lv.21 by Brawly was a whole-on mechanical oversight explanation which I was so into that the whiplash of the Slow growth rate feels that much more a slog.
I'm glad Manectric got access to Flamethrower in later generations, It helps them out with their poor moveset so much (granted at the same time, losing Bite/Crunch as special damage)
Yeah and Flamethrower would've helped shaved more time to some extent and maybe helped against Steven...although the situation probably would not change too much against the Claydol.
I don't "love" Manectric, but I appreciate it. It's sort of a placeholder in my team until New Mauville where I can replace it with Voltorb or Magnemite. Similar to how I use Mightyena until I can get Absol. I know why you skipped Bite in this solo run, but I LOVE that you can breed to get Crunch. Such a great move and can really be emphasized on Manectric.
I adore Manectric! I caught it in my original Emerald run because I wanted an electric type to complement the team I had at the time. I didn’t expect much, but she saved the team many times in my Wallace fight, Steven Stone fight, AND pretty much carried the entire team on her back for the Battle Frontier. I was also getting into battling friends at the time, and she beat two of my friends AND a kid who said my team was garbage XDDD Since then, if she’s an option, I catch an Elektrike. I used her again in ORAS, and named her after my OG one as I lost the cartridge years ago. Elektrike/Manectric was always an MVP for me, so seeing this run was a fun trip down memory lane.
I always avoided electrike as a kid because it didn’t have any electric moves right when you catch one and it felt weak with its physical attacks lol but later on I realized it’s a good special attacker and learns spark after a few levels and then you can teach it shock wave and thunderbolt eventually
I feel like this would be a lot easier for manectric in future games where it gets access to flamethrower. Steven Stone in particular would probably be a lot easier with just that one extra move
For steven, maybe a moveset of protect, substitute, thunderbolt, and bite with leftovers could work. You'll be able to pp stall dangerous moves and slowly heal up.
Manectric, along with some others, were from my very first Emerald playthrough, so it'll always have a special place in my heart. On the topic of the Mega, yeah I really like it too. It's on the sillier side but at the same time it's straight up (or I get straight sideways) a lightning bolt. How could that not be cool?
I've always liked Manectric. While its design may be weird to some, I think its mane pointing straight up is symbolic of how it generates high amounts of electricity and the look grew on me. Plus, I have a soft spot for dog pokemon XD Its stats may not be the best, but its SpAtk and Spd are pretty good all things considered and make it a solid in-game poke to add to your team. Movepool may be kinda swallow in terms of taking advantage of its stat spread, but TMs definitely help. Awesome vid as always Scott, looking forward to the next one!
Well, Scott, this one was hard, I gotta say! What the luck you had with flamery! I really think Norman should have one Zangoose, it would makes the gym even harder!
Love the video! If/when you update the overlay for Gen3 onward, can there be an indicator for which stats are affected by your nature? Also, an EV tracker would be nice, but perhaps overkill.
I'm a big fan of Manectric, even appearance wise. I'm not entirely sure why, though, but I want to say it's because of the game cube games. I also enjoy that it learns Fire moves in later gens, giving it a small niche as an Electric type with natural Fire coverage.
Those mega evolutions for the pokemon that weren't already super strong were such a fun addition to the game. Beedrill, Glalie etc. I would very much like to see them return at some point even if it seems we are shifting to flavour of the gen gimmicks going forward. Tera and Z moves were fine, gigantimax had some interesting designs similar to mega but dynamax just wasn't a good idea in singles play.
Scott: "I feel like everyones gonna roast me for choosing naughty nature. Please be kind, i feel bad." Scotts audience: "what does y naughty nature do??? 🤔 "
Jolteon is punk rock, Manectric is 80s synth rock. I used Manectric in my Emerald playthrough and they definitely did an amazing job and helped with a lot of the water and flying enemies.
I personally really like Manectric on my end, memory wise i grew up around it when playing explorers of sky. I was confused at first why Luxray wasn't there, but didn't complain because i also really liked seeing this electric doggo! I had Jolteon vibes from it and i recruited Electrike. A while later i was reading a creepypasta around Manectric, i liked pokepastas a lot as a kid. It was around a shiny Manectric! Can't remember the title but i remember it pretty well, and the shiny of Manectric i grew to actually REALLY like! Later on years later i watched Jaiden's nuzlocke, and i grew attached to Sparky the Manectric, and was sad when it did die to Metagross but understood it was necessary to get the paralysis off. I later played pokemon Y for the first time, wanting a mega Manectric! I got the Electrike i named Spark! It just rolls off the tongue so well and it's fun to say. She's Quirky nature, and was my ace the whole playthrough despite having struggles. Now problem? I was stuck with the houndoomite! No worries tho, as my friend offered to send me Manectric's mega stone. From there i mega evolved any chance i got! It was in my final team, and did the final blow to the champion. As of typing i have ordered a Manectric plush! Oh and shiny hunting Electrike too. She resides in home with the rest of my beloved pokemon Y team, ready for adventure in legends Z-A when it comes out. Design wise, it gives Jolteon vibes as u mentioned. I did wonder why it didn't have the pointed ears i seen with some dogs or the button ears or floppy ears, but i didn't really mind. I especially love how it's jaw is shaped like the clamp on a jumper cord! Also i grew to adore it's shiny as mentioned, the grey fur with the yellow is awesome! Also gives me stormy vibes, cuz usually storm clouds are grey. That's my history with this pokemon and why i adore Manectric, not to mention how much i really like storms as u can tell by my name Stormi as of typing lol. This was an awesome video, happy to see Manectric!
You have such a kind voice. And the fact that I know that you work on it is sweeter! I hope you get kind critiques.... but you attacking my baby?! Idk, we might have to fight. Manectric being electric AND wolf is my jam!!!! But, he could have had a third evolution lol 😅
@scott's thoughts - naughty nature is not necessarily bad on manectric. some times having a little more attack can come in clutch on certain Pokémon even if they are S.Attackers. early game or gym leaders that have Res against your typing.
Electrike was the first full odds shiny I found in Sapphire, after around 250 hours of gametime. Iirc, it was blue and when it evolved, it was purple! So that's pretty cool
As someone who got into the series relatively late (Sinnoh and a bit of FRLG 15 years ago), I have no strong feelings towards Manectric. That said, I think its 105 Speed and Special Attack make it more than strong enough as a final evolution in a traditional playthrough, although its shallow movepool makes it more difficult to do a solo run with. Speaking of movepool, I was surprised that it doesn't get Flamethrower and Overheat since it does in every subsequnet game. Flamethrower would've really helped with Steven!
I love Manectric. I personally think it looks more cool than silly 😅 I’ve used it on my original team back in Ruby. I just love all the doggo Pokémon. Bonus: when ORAS came out, I encountered a shiny electrike with perfect IV’s in Sp.Atk and Speed, it’s shiny is black and yellow and it’s awesome! 🤩
I NEED to see you do Zigzagoon (or Linoone if you must) Also Charge does have ONE niche purpose. If you use a move twice you risk the first one putting you ropponent into healing range. While doing Double damage in just one of the hits you COULD theoretically avoid that. It's very VERY niche, but it CAN be useful.
Such a silly final fight, it made me realize I would love for you to add a "remaining potions" counter onto the UI somewhere, maybe above the enemies list of pokemon beside the trainer name
Honestly I thought Naughty was a good choice - might help with Roxanne a bit. Though the attempt at Level 18 it left me hoping you would use Thunder Wave to try and stun the Nosepass; not a consistent strategy, but I figured it was worth a shot.
Hi Scott! HP grass might be better in the late game in this run because you’re still hitting grounds hard, but you’ll be able to one shot the Wiscash’s
Please dont get upset about folk in the comments. Youre doing an amazing job and provide so much entertainment and enjoyment in our lives. Youre the fucking man Scott.
Thanks to Manectric being mid, I often struggle comming up with a decent team for Emerald. This is the best I could come up with: Swampert Gardevoir Crobat Ninetails Heracross Aggron
I was surprised to see no Overheat on the TM list. I thought it could always learn that, while Flamethrower was only added to its set later. Turns out both of them were added in gen 4. It can also learn Crunch and Snarl later, but I am kind of annoyed that it never got Dark Pulse. The only time I actually used a Manectric was in ORAS, where on round 2 Steven’s Mega Metagross I was going to use my Mega Scizor to tank and chip it down, but decided to try for a Thunder Wave with my Manectric first, which I did get since Manectric outsped, then Mega Metagross missed a Giga Impact, so hey, I’ll use Flamethrower until I go down, and the Mega Metagross was then unable to move due to paralysis for two turns so three Flamethrowers actually took it out. If I recall correctly, I bred most of my team in another game for that run, so earlygame I had the egg move Flame Burst on my Electrike.
When you have a pokemon as fast as manectric, it’s definitely worth at least considering using a speed lowering nature, you’re probably going to outspeed almost everything relevant. Don’t worry about the naughty vs rash thing though :)
I actually often wondered in your playthroughs if it might be wise to use the nature that boosts the pokemon’s weaker offensive stat in order to make it slightly more balanced. Thought it might reduce the risk of it running up against a wall if it’s forced to use an attack of that type.
100% agree with your take on manectric's design,i like the body and face but i never liked the pyramid head. It has never felt like the final stage to me plus i think i would like it more if it was the same green as electrik instead of turning blue The mega fits so well as it's last form, it feels complete and powerful, especially the shiny version Honestly I hate mega's because it means those pokemon will never evolve unless they have a regional form Which makes some pokemon like glalie and manectric feel super under powered.
Charge is to punish moves like fly, protect or even switches for example ...still kind of useless for sure but it is slightly different from attacking twice
What u could do for the endgame for steven is that u could get some ev reducing berries to reduce the uneeded EVs u have so that u can use vitamins or do a small grind for the necessary evs for fights like this. It is kinda underrated but i believe it may lead to u having more consistent fights in the long run. Also HP ice will be the best overall just due to how gd the boltbeam combo is. Also consider a brave/quiet manetric since any excess speed is wasted
Manectric deserves a second playthrough in the future... I know it was recorded in August but man so many mistakes, wrong nature choice, wrong hidden power (grass is vastly superior). Love your videos Scott but Manectric needs a second chance
So I thought I might have found an interesting strategy for Manectric when thinking about strategies from older gens. I was going to suggest that you use Substitute + Petaya Berry for the Steven fight. Substitute would allows Manectric to safely shield itself from Skarmory on turn 1, allowing you to bring the Substitute into whatever Pokemon comes out next. Then, if you haven't activated Petaya Berry, use Substitute to guarantee that you activate it, allowing you to KO the Metagross with +1 Thunder. The problem? Petaya Berry is locked behind an event in Generation 3, which probably means it's not available in your runs. Substitute is available on the rooftop of the Department Store, which still should be useful against Steven's Skarmory (hoping that Scott uses this strategy sometime!) HOWEVER, Liechi Berry is available on Mirage Island, which you could theoretically get in one of your runs if you do some RNG manipulation. Liechi Berry could be used similarly to Petaya Berry above, especially physical attackers who might need the damage boost against Steven's more physically-oriented team. Extremely specific I know, but it might be easier to just boost through Steven's team rather than survive his team's repeated attacks.
13:13 - This thing just reminds me of Buu Saga Super Saiyan Vegeta. Also, I agree that this thing looks like a mid-stage evolution. It's not grand enough like Arcanine or fearsome enough like Houndoom.

I kinda agree with you: largely I love the Gen 3 designs, but there are some really strange over-designed ones and to me, Manetric is one of them.
You've been doing these runs for a while so I guess you know how to do these better than me but in my opinion:
1) HP Water is nice for Camerupt which I know you struggled with but it's basically not as good as Grass or Ice for anything else.
Loving "daily december"! Thanks so much for all the hard work you've been doing to make this happen!
These have been such a treat during the end of semester cram, thanks for daily December!
Is it just me or does anyone else get absolutely hyped for an Emerald video 😊
Scott can't help it if he's Naughty by default!!
Love the content, this consistency is absolutely bonkers in December!
I was also getting into battling friends at the time, and she beat two of my friends AND a kid who said my team was garbage XDDD
Since then, if she’s an option, I catch an Elektrike. I used her again in ORAS, and named her after my OG one as I lost the cartridge years ago.
Elektrike/Manectric was always an MVP for me, so seeing this run was a fun trip down memory lane.
Aww this was filmed on my birthday! That kinda makes me like Manetric a little more ^^ Great video as always~
Steven Stone in particular would probably be a lot easier with just that one extra move
oh look it's my to go special attack EV fodder in Emerald
Daily December is going great. These videos are the highlight of each day
december became the best month on youtube for me because there's scott everyday
For steven, maybe a moveset of protect, substitute, thunderbolt, and bite with leftovers could work. You'll be able to pp stall dangerous moves and slowly heal up.
Manectric, along with some others, were from my very first Emerald playthrough, so it'll always have a special place in my heart. On the topic of the Mega, yeah I really like it too. It's on the sillier side but at the same time it's straight up (or I get straight sideways) a lightning bolt. How could that not be cool?
Daily December is pretty good no joke. Appreciate the work Scott
I've always liked Manectric. While its design may be weird to some, I think its mane pointing straight up is symbolic of how it generates high amounts of electricity and the look grew on me. Plus, I have a soft spot for dog pokemon XD
Its stats may not be the best, but its SpAtk and Spd are pretty good all things considered and make it a solid in-game poke to add to your team. Movepool may be kinda swallow in terms of taking advantage of its stat spread, but TMs definitely help.
Awesome vid as always Scott, looking forward to the next one!
I’m glad the naughty nature didn’t come back to bite you in the end.
I knew Manetric would slower but didn't expect it to be this bad. Would be interesting to see how Magneton fares with it's steel type for defence.
personally i think the slightly higher base power and high chance to paralyze make spark better than shock wave, fun vid regardless, keep it up!
I would like to thank you and your team for all of the hard work that you put in!
Please be kind, i feel bad."
Scotts audience: "what does y
naughty nature do??? 🤔 "
Jolteon is punk rock, Manectric is 80s synth rock.
I used Manectric in my Emerald playthrough and they definitely did an amazing job and helped with a lot of the water and flying enemies.
Manectric gives me an almost Mayan/Aztecan impression, almost like an imposing statue; ever vigilant atop a temple.
Magnectric looks like its wearing some awkward headgear from an 80s sci-fi show
My first Shiny was an Electrike which I evolved into a Manectric in Omega Ruby. I still have it to this day.
Also still have it: is it still on the OR cartridge, pokemon bank/home, or on a switch based pokemon game
@@adventureoflinkmk2 old save file
@@TheOmegaDragon oh shit.. better try and get it to a switch cartridge stat
You still exist? And i ask that full of respect. I would collapse under this workload. Well done
Jrose 2022: month of Jrose
Scott 2023: Bro, I'm on my come up
Hold my Pichu😎
Can't wait for aggron video , and glad to see donphan and primeape got their video this year
@scott's thoughts - naughty nature is not necessarily bad on manectric. some times having a little more attack can come in clutch on certain Pokémon even if they are S.Attackers. early game or gym leaders that have Res against your typing.
"Why is it's head a triangle?"
Asking the real questions
Fun run. Man I can't wait for Emerald 2nd runs
Electrike was the first full odds shiny I found in Sapphire, after around 250 hours of gametime. Iirc, it was blue and when it evolved, it was purple! So that's pretty cool
Manetric is a naughty dog. After retiring from battles, she will create Crash Bandicoot games!
I don't know when you'll do it, but I look forward to the aggron playthrough. It may be hard, but he will do.
It gets crunch as an egg move, that wouldve helped it a lot. Also in gen4 it can learn flamethrower via tm. That really wouldve helped
Hi Scott!
HP grass might be better in the late game in this run because you’re still hitting grounds hard, but you’ll be able to one shot the Wiscash’s
I've always liked Manetric, mostly because in Gen 3 it's the best early game Electric type and it's a cool doggo.
Please dont get upset about folk in the comments. Youre doing an amazing job and provide so much entertainment and enjoyment in our lives. Youre the fucking man Scott.
Thanks to Manectric being mid, I often struggle comming up with a decent team for Emerald.
This is the best I could come up with:
Swampert
Gardevoir
Crobat
Ninetails
Heracross
Aggron
A Naughty nature this close to Christmas? Poor Manectric.
With the sheer amount of Water Pokemon in Emerald. It is a Chad.
It has never felt like the final stage to me
plus i think i would like it more if it was the same green as electrik instead of turning blue
The mega fits so well as it's last form, it feels complete and powerful, especially the shiny version
Honestly I hate mega's because it means those pokemon will never evolve unless they have a regional form
Which makes some pokemon like glalie and manectric feel super under powered.
"I’m sure all the people that love Manectric will come at me". Oh yeah, I’m sure the whole 2 of them will.
Charge is to punish moves like fly, protect or even switches for example
...still kind of useless for sure but it is slightly different from attacking twice
blergh, hoenn games :p still, thanks as always for the ever-improving quality content; December is being a better month because of your work! Cheers!
Manectric always gave me Egyptian sphinx vibes, always thought those were the pyramids on its head..
Disliking Manectric smh. Clearly the one with the Naughty nature is you, Scott. :P
I'm surprised that Modest/Adamant natures aren't seeing more use, I hadn't clocked that it was mostly Naughty/Rash until you said so
Kane trick is the standard early gen Electric type. Great at going first and hitting with Thunderbolt, but not much else.
We should have a what if series like what if Manectrick learned Flametrower like latter generations.
Scott you've been Naughty.... Great Video
By the Way I feel like you never Talk about the Emerald Move Tutors (That are Not in the Battle Frontier)
Also consider a brave/quiet manetric since any excess speed is wasted
it is not even a week in and the opening feels so tired already. I hope you are taking care of yourself Scott
Substitute is available on the rooftop of the Department Store, which still should be useful against Steven's Skarmory (hoping that Scott uses this strategy sometime!)
HOWEVER, Liechi Berry is available on Mirage Island, which you could theoretically get in one of your runs if you do some RNG manipulation.
