The physical special split really did great things. Like actually giving people a reason to use Hitmonchan for it's supposedly signature gimmick. Granted a decade late, but still.
@adm6302 The split was supposed to be introduced in gen 2 but was cut. Iwata did an interview talking about the difficult development of Gold and Silver.
it's both good and bad, but overall good. Fighting types with elemental punches and Feraligatr benefit from being able to use their higher atk on coverage/physical STAB, but then you have Abra and Haunter/Gengar not being able to use the elemental punches with great effect anymore.
In regards to Blizzard accuracy, Blizzard still bypasses accuracy checks in hail to this day. They did not get rid of that mechanic in gen 6. I’m guessing you’re checking the move in Bulbapedia and seeing the bypass listed as a gen 4-5 effect, but note that it does not say the effect was removed in the gen 6+ section. Alolan Ninetales is one of my all time favourite Pokemon, and I love spamming no miss Blizzards with its Snow Warning ability, and have done so in every gen since it was introduced. ^_^
@@NotAnElk That was actually a glitch that was fixed in Platinum. The gen 6+ changes are the reduction in power (from 120 to 110), and various minor interactions like the in battle berry trees in Kalos and the contest interractions in ORAS. edit: I didn't notice someone else had already said that.
32:26 Slight correction on this Scott: If fog is on the field, it's not innate -1 accuracy. When fog is on the field, the accuracy of every move is reduced by 40%. So in essence, it would be like every move that normally has 100% accuracy has turned into Hypnosis! Of course this does also affect the opponent as well, but yeah it will probably make the fights a major slog! It is worth noting that moves that bypass accuracy checks such as Swift though are not affected, and if the Pokemon you're running with has a weather changing ability, you can overwrite the fog weather without issue, which will definitely be a good thing if/when you decide to run with the Snover/Hippopotas lines.
At 22:00, what's really interesting, is that these nicknames DO actually exist in the games, and have a functional use. Some notable NPC pokemon, like Fantina, can be seen in Pokemon Contests at the master rank, which is really cool. Fantina's Drifloon is named Loony, and the optional reporter and cameraman's Magneton is named Jolt. The Pokemon Center's Chansey is named Pinky, and your mother's Kangaskhan's named Jumpy. My favorite one of the bunch, though, is Jasmine from Johto can also show up, and her Steelix's name is Rusty, which I think is really cute.
Overlay looking clean. Great job on production! The Raichu Gyarados double battle almost ended my blind hardcore nuzlocke. It’s way harder than the surrounding battles. I foresee those trainers getting custom art.

you could make the argument that technically Butterfree is a post-game exclusive (Caterpie being obtainable with the "dongle method") so it can't be done due to dex-limitations annoyingly so is Venonat (obtainable via PokeRadar which is another national dex thing), so can't even have the unofficial mascot either thematically that sounds better than just "ehh, needed more experience first"
Wonderful to see you starting the Platinum series. I do think this is where Pokemon really starts challenging the player and the solo run becomes more difficult. You start seeing it in Gen 3 but by Gen 4 it seems like times will get longer simply because the game always has a new punch to throw. I do expect Infernape to do tremendously well as Gen 4-5 is also when Fighting finishes its arc from "The worst type" to "Probably the best type you can ask for." Gen 3 you started seeing it with Medicham and Hariyama, but oh boy Gen 4 and 5.
Just in case we get more Hail Blizzard resets in gen 6, they didn't remove that interaction ever. They just lowered Blizzard's base power like all the other special 120 moves. I was so sad for Torterra when you put it through that haha Looking forward to this new series. It actually makes me want to replay Platinum too now.
Hey Scott! You’ve made the last year of my life a bit brighter through your videos. I’ve fallen in love with Pokemon once again! May you have an optimized 2024 with great RNG luck! Also, Venomoth is a Dragon/Electric type.
what an awesome christmas gift!! a whole new generation! i'm so excited to see how it goes! piplup is my favorite pokémon, so i'm so ready to see it whenever those playthroughs come out!
The reason the NPC approaches to hand over the fashion case is because he watches you battle and is impressed by your skill. I get this is frustrating, especially since you’ll be dealing with this guy every single run, but if this event didn’t occur a lot of kids would just completely miss that item.
Love the gym leader animations. A couple tips from my own solo running experience: My HM user routing is to catch a Bidoof on 202 for Rock Smash and Cut, Bibarel on 208 (in front of Hearthome) for Rock Smash, Rock Climb, and the eventual Water moves, and Tropius in the northern Safari Zone for the remainder, ditching Bidoof ASAP assuming you don't want any optional items. Then you're left with only two extra party members, saving time at every Center heal. The Tropius should be leveled high enough that it won't waste time leveling during the mandatory double battles. The downside is that you need to play at day to consistently find them. Bibarel can be hard to catch with Poke Balls and will eventually wreck you with Rollout, so get the Net Ball in Eterna Forest and Great Ball on 208, and save before looking for it. Tropius in Safari Zone isn't as bad as it might sound, it's pretty easy to catch and you want to go up there for the hidden Rare Candy anyway. While you're in the Chateau, grab the Ether outside and the Substitute TM inside. Sub counters Fantina. The Rock Polish TM is in the room at 38:10, also behind Strength. It lets some strong but slow mineral Pokemon sweep at lower levels without Quck Claw luck. My Rock Polish / Swords Dance / Earthquake / Rock Slide Torterra beat the game somewhere in the 70s. Consider banning Return until last resort, it homogenizes Pokemon with weaker movesets and often finds its way onto even good Pokemon.
This is a late post compared to when I watched it. But I'm so happy your first Platinum video was with Torterra-line. Turtwig is favorite starter from Gen 4, and my favorite grass type starter out of all 9 of them. It was really exciting to watch and see. Definitely one of my favorite videos of yours!
Agreed. Also, what happened to the rest of the song? I could've sworn there was a comment somewhere that continued what was left off the legendary birds race yesterday...
With these gen 4 videos I would really like hearing what you think of the gen 4 pokemon designs especially for an evolutionary lines. I'm also super excited to see gen 4 solo runs, let's go!
Torterra is my favorite pokemon of all time so I consider this video a personal Christmas gift. Thank you Scott. Watching this channel grow over the years has been an absolute pleasure.
We’re actually in the timeline where Scott’s tackling the gen4 games -and I’m all for it! Pearl was my introduction to the series. I found its atmosphere to be so sublime.
*Pre-watch* Oh boy. Inspired by you, I tried my luck with solo running for the first time a while back, also with Torterra in Platinum as it seemed like an obvious place to start. I spent hours in planning, and figuring out what TMs and held items were available at what points in the game. I had a blast. Until I started playing. Candice was a menace, but in general the whole run felt brutal. Torterra is slow, lots of Pokemon have coverage moves, and the AI is smarter. I can't remember nor access my final time just now, but I put solo running in gen 4 on hold after that attempt, that's how deflated I was 😄 Looking forward to seeing what you came up with!
Wow, what a Xmas gift. First ever Gen 4 playthrough! And coming from the best ever Solo Challenge PokeTuber. Cant wait for you to start jumping into all the new Gen 4 mechanics like the Physical/Special Split, better items and better movesets available to Pokémon. Keep up the good work Scott You’re a legend! And happy holidays.
hi scott! ive been so excited for gen 4 runs (gen 4 was the first generation that introduced me to pokemon), thank you so much for all the effort you put in to these videos
I love seeing little glimpses into your setup, like things going wrong in early uses of an overlay. I agree with your decision to exclude the secondary screen - it's useful in gameplay but kind of just an extraneous distraction against the overlay. Overall things are looking very clean. :) I'm excited to see more Platinum going forward.
I was 100% sure it was going to be Butterfree first, but who cares it's still pokemon platinum!!!! The first game with the physical special split (if you ignore dimaond & pearl) , and I also can't wait to see how you will use the free choice specs in the future
Merry Christmas Scott! I just wanted to say thanks for all the incredible work you do on your channel. Your hard work this month has been noticed and appreciated. Thank you! Merry Christmas/happy holidays to you and your Wife!
When I was a kid I only played gens 2 and 3. I've gotten to experience the games I never got to play as a kid through your videos and it's been great. I've ended up watching a video a day for around 7 months. Keep up the great work and Merry Christmas.
Currently doing a solo Torterra run on my childhood copy of Diamond and getting ready to face the Steel gym. My current moveset is Earthquake, Crunch, Giga Drain and Curse. Thanks again for doing these kinds of videos. You've really inspired me to try these for myself!
A fantastic Christmas Gift! I love the Sinnoh games, since they were really the first Pokemon games I was able to play since my mum didn't like me playing video games. It also holds a special place in my heart because someone saw me playing it at school, and gave me the Manaphy egg with the condition I touch trade it back so she could get the Dex entry. Manaphy became one of my fave Pokemon since then. I really look forward to the future Sinnoh playthroughs you do, and I hope you have a lot of fun with them!
This honestly made me very happy to see, given Gen 4 was my entry to the franchise and Turtwig was my very first starter. And a fun fact about Barry, given your description of him being competent and tough. In a rematch with him after a certain number of Hall of Fame entries in Platinum, his ace is Level 85. It made him the strongest trainer in the franchise until HGSS came out and had its version of Red with a Level 88. He currently places as the third strongest trainer in the franchise (behind Red in HGSS and Cynthia in BDSP, both with Level 88 aces).
wow i cannot believe how happy i am that you’ve started doing gen 4 runs. gen 4 has a very special place in my heart. i’m finding myself having a hard time listening to you because i’m too busy vibing to gen 4’s amazing music. i’m also having a weird time watching this video because when i first played this game when i was younger, turtwig was my starter and i did the classic kid thing where you use an over leveled starter with a legendary or two with some 20 level lower scrubs on your team. i remember struggling in so many areas where you struggled. I’ll never forget feeling all confident at crasher wake and getting Ice Fang-ed. i still absolutely adore torterra tho ❤️ i’m so happy he gets to be the debut pokémon for your gen 4 runs
Your videos are great because they show a side of Pokemon besides the competitive meta-analysis, It's always rather cool to see a side where Pokemon that are not gamebreaking in the PvP side end up being great at the actual game itself. Gen 4 was when I returned to pokemon, I had the same "Pokemon is for kids" phase in Gen 3 and 4 was a return to it as a teenager with more cash and less social pressure, with Turtwig being my favourite starter. It's cool seeing you branch out to these games and I hope you do more in the future! You're great!
Very excited that you have a series going in 5 different games, Scott! It always feel so fresh to see videos produced across the different games, and it is a thrill every time you start a series in a new game! Hoping you enjoy your well-deserved month off from produced videos in January and looking forward to catching some of your streams!
Man I gotta say I do love the overlay, it looks extraordinarily clean. And I think leaving out the bottom screen is good, makes it look neater and like you said all the information is listed somewhere else so I think we're fine not seeing it. I'm excited to see where we go with this!
So excited to see Gen 4!! Having also grown up with pokemon Gen 4 was special for me because I was starting to get old enough to understand the mechanics and started to have balanced teams 😂 Love your content Scott, and your dedication to your craft shows. I always have one of your videos playing as I'm doing stuff around the house. My daughter is 3 months old but with how often we watch/listen to your videos I think she'll be a pro when she's 6 years old lol
The fire type Elite 4 member having Drifblim makes sense since hot air balloon, and Steelix is an Onix that evolved through pressure and heat (according to the Pokedex). As for Lopunny *cough*.
OMGosh, I was expecting this but it still surprised me! You've really branched out a ton. I remember watching you when the crystal videos were still rare
still watching the video so not sure if you mention the history behind the name being TWIG, but i have to say thank you for the giant wave of nostalgia that it hit me with. thats the exact same name i gave my turtwig back in diamond, thats still stomping around my files today! if for nothing else, thanks for reminding me of my first starter. love the content, and i'm super excited to see you tackle gen 4!
Was bout to catch the infernape run that just dropped then remembered i saw this, so here we go. Goat w/ how much content you’ve been pushing out. Enjoy the break you have planned, Happy New Years!
The day has come when I won't wholly binge-watch some of your videos, as I've been on hiatus with Platinum for yeeears, about halfway through the Gym Challenge. Maybe this'll finally kick me back in gear for it and Black 2...
Merry Christmas Scott, and thanks us for giving us Gen 4 as a present! I was eager to see it in play after the various teases on your Twitter page. A bit in, and the Gym Leader intros are top notch here, i loved the nice touch of Cherrim changing form between the shaded and unshaded part of the animation.
It was interesting to learn more about your experience at the start of the episode. I feel it helped with introducing this generation. May this one have all the success in the world.
Earthquake is going to be so important in this game for pokemon that can learn it I’d imagine since it’s available so early. Very hyped for this series you’re amazing Scott thanks for all the great content!!
Can't wait for Dusknoir to have its turn, since it's my favorite Pokemon. I don't expect greatness, since it's pretty slow and has a mediocre movepool, but it should be fun! EDIT: Love the Jeporady theme sheet music put in for the long save time, haha! Needed to rewind a bit and pause for a few seconds.
I don't know if you know, since it's not in the move set list on the screen, but there are actually a lot of awesome move tutors in platinum that take colored shards. You should check them out. :) Also, so happy to see you start Platinum runs.
Nice one! Good overlay, not too cluttered. Definitely did not miss the second screen. Some minor bugs / glitches for us viewers, but that's all good. Didn't know there where that many differences between gen 3 and 4. Turns out my knowledge of pokemon games is centered around earlier gens.. Fun to learn new things about gen 4 :)
I'm pretty excited with this new series Scott! Actually I didn't have access to pokemon platinum when it was launched, just like you, and my parents would never buy me this gameboy and the game to play, cause just like you said they would say it is just child stuff, what is quite frustrating. Now I am able to know this game better Scott, thanks to you and your team! Now I am able to enjoyed what I didn't have in my teens, though I wanted so much to have back then... Maybe I will start playing too, I really like this generation, well let's see. But what I know for certain is that I'm gonna enjoy every single challenge you do in this generation from now on. Thank you so much. Have a nice week!
At 52:50 the alakazam has harden and then it changes to recover Also in the old chateau on the 2nd floor in one of the room you can get the TM for substitute but I think it might be broken. And another tip for Candice is to change the weather with moves like sunny day (Found on route 212) to make Blizzard 50% accuracy
i didnt even realize there was a second screen missing until scott pointed it out. i think the layout looks great. cant wait to see more in this series
Oh man. A Christmas miracle, there’s a pet project I do on the side that involves checking out the post-game Gym, Elite Four, and Rival rematches for both this and HGSS. I’d absolutely love to see you take those on with the overlay in between these solo runs.
Not a Butterfree run!?!?! The Herasey! And on Christmas as well 😱 Lol, that said, good run, though Platinum really isn't as bad as Sun and Moon. Gen 7 literally has back to back cutscenes where you literally walk roughly 1 building over to activate the next cutscene. I think you're underestimating the Gen 7 cutscenes. It probably feels similar played at 3x or 4x in a speed running setting, but it makes a very big difference when these cutscenes are consolidated, even if they don't make sense like the dude just running up and giving you a fashion case. Though that would be better as an optional item to go collect, so in that sense, yeah, I agree that it's a useless scene to happen. Outside of that, most cutscenes are related to story battles or rival battles in some way, and not just cutscenes for the sake of cutscenes, so even if the total number of cutscenes are similar, the delivery makes Platinum's style more bearable for casual playthroughs
53:43 I remember learning about damage ranges from Cynthia as a kid because my Torterra's earthquake had to max roll twice in a row to 2HKO her Spiritomb, and my stubborn butt preferred resetting for hours instead of blacking out and training. Thanks for the nostalgia Scott, from RBY to DPPT.
there was no obligatory "nice" with the 69, unfortunate. Also I really enjoy when you go over more of what goes on in the overworld not so much like a speedrun but a normal walkthrough. I know it does make it harder to go over the cool things you go over like coding or how the game works and even trivia, but I love watching your videos and its nice seeing the slightly longer videos cause you give us more to learn about the games and its really interesting.
Cool to see a new generation Scott! These are the last Pokémon games I like watching runs of. In newer generations, the visuals just get too busy when played at increased speed.
Very exciting to see you start playing Gen 4! While I was confused by the lack of Butterfree introducing us to a new game, I'm all for the new direction! I do want to point out that Ice Shard has increased priority (it's essentially an Ice version of Quick Attack), so being faster than Candice's Sneasel wouldn't have made a difference. Strategy wise for a future Torterra solo (if you intend on doing those in Gen 4), I think Rock Polish would help to solve just about every problem Torterra has to face. It, Swords Dance, Return/Rock Slide, and Earthquake should provide sufficient coverage. You might need Sitrus Berry for Candice and Shell Bell for most other fights for healing, but that should be really good.
One thing to not for the rival in Canalave Scott is that while infernape does have higher special attack its move set is entirely physical do its always gonna be using its lower attacking stat in that fight. So glad to see you starting my favorite generation of pokemon with my favorite starter
Great work as always scott. Never played gen 4 but it looks like there are some interestint battles and strategies. However, another generation with Return on every run… yey… it‘s such a strong move that‘s learned by almost every pokemon, so i think it makes the run less interesting. The new overlay is great btw. Keep up the great work & enjoy a little rest in january you deserve it :)
woot Merry Christmas indeed. Scott bringing in a BIG Christmas surprise with Gen 4! hell yeah :D Happy holidays Scott. Personally I would rather have the video with minor visual bugs than to not have it at all.
Its funny to hear that you passed this up and picked it up later when you were an adult. I did the same thing with Ruby/Sapphire and when I saw Platinum I said screw it, im an adult now and picked it up. I was in the US Marines then and we had a good number of gamers in the barracks so it was kind of like being in high school again when the work day was over. Lots of trade evolutions and battles. I think the best thing about being an adult is coming to terms with the things you like and embracing them without fear of social backlash. Plus the realization that if you're true to yourself, the people who like you will genuinely like you for who you are. Those are the people you want in your life.
I'm super happy to finally get to watch Platinum. Merry Christmas🎄 PS Just started watching the video and noticed that Tackle's information is wrong since in Gen 4 it still has 35 power and 95% Accuracy.
I am so glad platinum is going to be line-challenges. I enjoy them so much more than single pokemon challenges because they feel much more natural and how someone might play through the game.
Awesome; Pokémon Platinum time! An Torterra feels fitting as both the start and for the Christmas (tree) timing. Sorry Abomasnow, perhaps another Christmas. Also, Merry Christmas and Happy Boxing Day to you! 0:47 - Ha-ha; the advantage to having very few friends and a younger brother. Nothing stopped me from enjoying those early Pokémon games throughout the years. I hope you have tons of fun with your rather fresh experience of Pokémon Platinum though. 5:37 - I just realised that your Torterra playthrough is starting off with Turtwig, unlike your usual videos. I do believe this is for the best though given your lack of experience with Pokémon Platinum. You can experience all the stages and their differences that might not be so familiar to you (unlike the other gens) as they evolve. 7:55 - Hey, hey, hey; you forgot the glorious Kricketot here. I look forward to the eventual solo challenge of Kricketune, my all time favourite Pokémon. 12:26 - It's actually a bit weird that Roark has an Onix. I can understand Rock Gym Leader Brock having one, but at this point, it loosing it's Rock typing and becoming the Steel type Steelix was well known. Thus, Roark has to drop the Pokémon from his team when using a full or powered up squad. 14:10 - The difference is, you can speed by the dialogue so much quicker. There's less pausing and camera shifts at play, which is truly what slows the pace down. I particularly find this to be a problem when playing more modern JRPGs, which has the added slow down of voiced dialogue. 16:40 - I do adore the STAT Trainers (there should be more opportunity for Double Battles when you team up with an ally) so it's nice to know we'll see more of them in future Platinum runs thanks to them being ideal times to grind. 21:26 - It would be pretty amusing to see you do a contest in all these solo challenges though. Suddenly having to research contest strategies and viability. 23:39 - Hooray; praise for Barry! He tends to get overlooked a lot but he has himself a decent team and is very competitive with you, despite being friendly. 26:47 - Hilarious at how at the exact you praise the improvement of the gym leaders you utterly demolish the gym leader you're facing. Poor Maylene didn't stand a chance. 30:19 - Congrats on getting past the attack reducing Gyarados... shame you were unaware of the 4X Super Effective Ice Fang using Floatzel. Wake here is perfectly set up to deal specifically with Torterra. 36:14 - Just realising that Ice Fang pops up quite a bit in Platinum. Lucky that Twig the Torterra tanked that nicely. 41:18 - Ah, the other speedy Pokémon she has on her team. It's unsurprising that Candice would be quite an obstacle. 43:07 - Poor Ice types; rarely gets treated and never seems to be able to keep a good thing. I'm unsurprised you kept trying though; you do this a lot. 48:30 - Woo; that was a close one. Of course, this fight is notoriously hard so a challenge was expected. It feels some additional levelling up earlier on (such as at Iron Island) would have been handy for these latter encounters. Until Cynthia, I doubt you're going to encounter anything close to this level of challenge. 54:46 - Wow... that was surprisingly easy. That set-up strategy against Spiritomb works wonders.
Wow, that gym leader intro looks nice Also fun fact: the dark type is the only type to have every single one of its attacks change damage category in gen 4
Probably gonna be one of the only, if only, Platnium solo challenges I watch because I detest gen 4 so much. Torterra is cool enough to offset the pain that is watching your time be actively wasted by the games design and dialogue. Merry Christmas Scott!
Love Platinum, and am excited to see you getting into it, but I totally feel you on how annoying all the little disruptions can be. Heart Gold and Soul Silver are probably my overall favorites in the series, and they've got a fair bit of that too, especially at the beginning. It definitely feels like they were starting to take the series more in that direction around this point, and it's a shame that there isn't some sort of consideration for repeat playthroughs or players who don't want or need to be tutorialized to let them skip through it.
Oh im so happy to FINALLY be getting videos for Sinnoh from a big channel! I love Torterra however i feel Abomasnow would have been more suitable for todays challenge since its Christmas and Abomasnow is essentially a living Christmas tree lol
Glad to see gen 4 at last! Very excited to see you route a game with more complicated mechanics I think a good concession for the bottom screen is to simply put it over the pokemon's artwork if it's ever relevant. Like, if you need to show the bottom screen to explain something, just put it there for a couple seconds.
The physical special split really did great things. Like actually giving people a reason to use Hitmonchan for it's supposedly signature gimmick. Granted a decade late, but still.
I always wonder why they decided to give sneasel not one but two special types but an higher attack in gen 2... It was so weird
@adm6302 The split was supposed to be introduced in gen 2 but was cut. Iwata did an interview talking about the difficult development of Gold and Silver.
@@somedogsarecops2354 oh I didn't know that. Thank you for letting me know
it's both good and bad, but overall good. Fighting types with elemental punches and Feraligatr benefit from being able to use their higher atk on coverage/physical STAB, but then you have Abra and Haunter/Gengar not being able to use the elemental punches with great effect anymore.
One pretty notable disadvantage to the physical special split is that Hidden Power became unusuable as coverage for physical attackers.
Yeah, the change that happened in gen 6 is that they no longer have a 30% chance to bypass Protect anymore
@@NotAnElk No, that's a Diamond/Pearl-exclusive glitch. What happened in Gen 6 was the nerf from 120 Base Power to 110.
Alolan Ninetales was so awesome when I discovered that combo too. Plus its pretty, one of the Pokémon I love to use every chance I get to this day.
Is it never miss like swift? I thought it was just swapped to 100% accuracy in hail/snow
No wonder why my moves miss like crazy in that Route.
I feel like 90% of pokemon will just want to dodge those two. They’re so strong for the point on the game they’re at!
17:01 the move set replaces Return with Heal Bell. I didn’t hear you talk about it. Loving the expansion into Gen 4!!!
Haha funny! Good catch.

What a great christmas gift this run is! I’ll admit I’m a little surprised this isn’t a butterfree test run, but I won’t turn down a torterra run!
you could make the argument that technically Butterfree is a post-game exclusive (Caterpie being obtainable with the "dongle method") so it can't be done due to dex-limitations
annoyingly so is Venonat (obtainable via PokeRadar which is another national dex thing), so can't even have the unofficial mascot either
thematically that sounds better than just "ehh, needed more experience first"
Wonderful to see you starting the Platinum series.
I was so sad for Torterra when you put it through that haha
Looking forward to this new series. It actually makes me want to replay Platinum too now.
Merry Christmas everyone! And thank you Scott for all the awesome content and looking forward to more gen 4!
Hey Scott! You’ve made the last year of my life a bit brighter through your videos. I’ve fallen in love with Pokemon once again! May you have an optimized 2024 with great RNG luck!
Also, Venomoth is a Dragon/Electric type.
What Gen 4!
what an awesome christmas gift!! a whole new generation! i'm so excited to see how it goes! piplup is my favorite pokémon, so i'm so ready to see it whenever those playthroughs come out!
A couple tips from my own solo running experience:
My HM user routing is to catch a Bidoof on 202 for Rock Smash and Cut, Bibarel on 208 (in front of Hearthome) for Rock Smash, Rock Climb, and the eventual Water moves, and Tropius in the northern Safari Zone for the remainder, ditching Bidoof ASAP assuming you don't want any optional items.
Merry Christmas, Scott, Mrs. Thoughts, editors, animators, coders, racers, the whole channel community, and the cats ♥
I can't wait until 2-3 years from now when we can look back at this run and cringe at things we don't even notice right now!
Now THIS is a Christmas present. Merry Christmas Scott!
Your willingness to point out your mistakes shows how humble a person you are and I respect that! 👍
I can't remember nor access my final time just now, but I put solo running in gen 4 on hold after that attempt, that's how deflated I was 😄
Looking forward to seeing what you came up with!
Damn im actually pumped for this gen. Looking forward to all the content
I love Torterra too! It’s one of my favorite starters.
Having also grown up with pokemon Gen 4 was special for me because I was starting to get old enough to understand the mechanics and started to have balanced teams 😂
Love your content Scott, and your dedication to your craft shows. I always have one of your videos playing as I'm doing stuff around the house. My daughter is 3 months old but with how often we watch/listen to your videos I think she'll be a pro when she's 6 years old lol
Merry xmas everyone?!?!?! Thanks so much Scott 🎉🎉
I like that Scott! I've had an nostalgia of playing pokemon again watching your videos and playing with my favourite pokemon
Scott, don't worry about the glitches in the software, we all know how you do you put all your efforts to make it smooth. Love you're content dude!
still watching the video so not sure if you mention the history behind the name being TWIG, but i have to say thank you for the giant wave of nostalgia that it hit me with. thats the exact same name i gave my turtwig back in diamond, thats still stomping around my files today! if for nothing else, thanks for reminding me of my first starter. love the content, and i'm super excited to see you tackle gen 4!
"The most important thing to see in these videos, my PP"
- Scott's Thoughts, 2023
Didn't think we were gonna get gen 4 this year! What a great Christmas gift for us all
YESSS I love Torterra, it's one of my favorite starters :) Very excited to see you cover the rest of Sinnoh!
I KNEW IT, i knew the video today would be Platinum's first.
Glad to see this Scott, I'm excited to see more in the future
It was interesting to learn more about your experience at the start of the episode. I feel it helped with introducing this generation. May this one have all the success in the world.
Earthquake is going to be so important in this game for pokemon that can learn it I’d imagine since it’s available so early. Very hyped for this series you’re amazing Scott thanks for all the great content!!
Torterra gets it super early naturally.
@@ShiningJudgment666 true but you can get the tm really early as well for if pokemon don’t get it naturally and it’s still such a good move in dpp
This gen is so nostalgic. So excited to see you play Scott
Hehehe
I'm glad someone caught that.
At 52:50 the alakazam has harden and then it changes to recover
Also in the old chateau on the 2nd floor in one of the room you can get the TM for substitute but I think it might be broken.
And on Christmas as well 😱
Lol, that said, good run, though Platinum really isn't as bad as Sun and Moon.
Merry Christmas! I also appreciate the little sheet music of the jeopardy theme, was a good touch.
53:43
I remember learning about damage ranges from Cynthia as a kid because my Torterra's earthquake had to max roll twice in a row to 2HKO her Spiritomb, and my stubborn butt preferred resetting for hours instead of blacking out and training. Thanks for the nostalgia Scott, from RBY to DPPT.
Lets go Platinum! Thank u for another incredible year and happy holidays Scott!
there was no obligatory "nice" with the 69, unfortunate.
5:55 Gen 4 music is fantastic overall but Barry's theme is so good.
Glad to see you in one of my favorite Gens.
Merry Christmas, and thank you for the gift of great entertainment over the years.
What a Christmas present I can't wait to see what generation 4 has in store, I'm so excited to see this series grow thanks Scott you're the best😊
Gen 4 is one of my favorites! The physical special split is so great! Makes a lot of pokemon better.
You will have to wait until Gen 8 for him not to use Return because by then Return is removed as a TM.
woot Merry Christmas indeed. Scott bringing in a BIG Christmas surprise with Gen 4! hell yeah :D Happy holidays Scott. Personally I would rather have the video with minor visual bugs than to not have it at all.
Torterra's my favourite starter of them all, he was my first. I'm SO EXCITED to see how he does! Merry Christmas!!!!!
I love the extra info on the overlay. Keep up the great work, Scott.
Awesome seeing you branch to different gens. Good luck learning thr routes for the games
I'm super happy to finally get to watch Platinum.
Merry Christmas🎄
PS Just started watching the video and noticed that Tackle's information is wrong since in Gen 4 it still has 35 power and 95% Accuracy.
I am so glad platinum is going to be line-challenges. I enjoy them so much more than single pokemon challenges because they feel much more natural and how someone might play through the game.
Been taking a break from the content - wanting to come back to it - so glad you're on to platinum
OMG!! I new it however i was predicting it will be the last video of the year, finally special-physical split games are here!!! THX Santa 😁
My favorite mon in my favorite game, im genuinely so excited and completely caught off guard, though itd be a while before you played platinum
My favorite UA-camr playing my favorite starter on Christmas :D what a gift!
Your overlay looks great. I'm so happy to see you playing in the 4th Gen! Merry Christmas and here's to a Platinum new year!
woah, gen 4 already. you and your programmers are amazing!
Wow, that gym leader intro looks nice
Also fun fact: the dark type is the only type to have every single one of its attacks change damage category in gen 4
I think Platinum might be my 3rd favourite Pokemon game overall, beaten by Legends Arceus & HGSS. Absolutely amazing, looking forward to these!
Ayoo, my favourite game, and my favourite ever pokemon. I can't wait! Merry christmas Scott!
Oh yes, this is so awesome, so glad you're finally four generations deep, so many Mons!
YES GEN 4 LETS GO!!! Scott you are a real one for this! Enjoy your holiday and rest up wel! My god you have earnt it brother! ❤❤❤
Now this is a Christmas gift, my favourite Pokémon! Thanks, Scott!
Glad to see gen 4 at last! Very excited to see you route a game with more complicated mechanics
I think a good concession for the bottom screen is to simply put it over the pokemon's artwork if it's ever relevant. Like, if you need to show the bottom screen to explain something, just put it there for a couple seconds.
Merry Christmas, Scott! Have so appreciated all your content this year and look forward to the next!
