While I agree with you in some ways, I think he was crucial to them succeeding. Look at how Borland’s side projects went and even his run with Manson….. as good as Wes was, it’s possible that without Fred’s attention grabbing ways and his early connections, Wes might not have even become famous. I’m sure some crazy talented musicians didn’t hit the big time because they didn’t have the star power of a Fred Durst. Would Fred make it if he was starting out today in the current era is a different question. Late 90s early 2000s was made for him.

Can't believe it's been 30 years and people still try and insult Fred Durst just because they don't like how he leads the band.
This is one of their best songs. I absolutely love it. While everyone sleeps on Limp Bizkit I still rock this album. As a drummer I do enjoy the drums but the bass is the best part on this song.

This is my favorite band of all time. Love em or hate em, they produced great sounding music. All the members know their instrument very well. John and Sam are cousins, I think that is why the drums and bass lock so well together.
My favorite off of this album! Sam started my lifelong obsession with Warwick as well lol. Always thought the boys were underrated tbh. Fred has always been the lightning rod taking all the hate for the band but outside of UA-cam comments it's hard to find people who acknowledge a lot of the great musicianship that can be found in numetal.

Stuck, from Three Dollar Bill Y'all has a great, muddy, slurring riff in the higher frets. When Sam is let loose to lay out a flowing riff, Wes typically followed suit in spectacular fashion. Rearranged was one of the few riffs i remembered from high school when i had picked up the bass originally, to when i picked it back up a few months ago. I had looked up the tabs way back when, but you had it in about 8 seconds.
Love the videos man! Would be cool if you reacted to some Interpol someday? They've always had some interesting bass lines. Especially songs from their first 3 albums. Their most popular songs "Evil", "Obstacle 1" & "Rest My Chemistry" are great examples. What made them cool is the fact that their original bassist Carlos D. actually never wanted to play bass and even hated playing it to an extent. He wanted to be in the spotlight, so he simply refused to play along to whatever riff the guitarst was playing, and played something distinctly different, almost off-beat so you couldn't possibly miss it. Drove the lead guitarist crazy.
Everyone focuses on Fred Durst because of his personality and Wes because his guitar playing is so strange, but Rivers and Otto are legit the best rhythm section in all of Nu Metal. Like, they aren't Nu Metal good, they are good good. The more you listen, the more genius shit you hear them do that shows their proficiency with their instruments. Believe it or not, Limp Bizkit can actually get pretty deep musically.

Sam Reavers has been one of the great influences in the way I play bass over the years. He is a great bassist. Yesterday I had a discussion about Flea and Frusciante and how they melodically blend perfectly with one another in their songs, and another great example of this is Sam Reavers with Wes Borland in the first album of Limp Bizkit, when Borland was going through his 2 hand tapping phase. Sour by LB is a very close example of what happens in RHCP's Callifornication between bass and guitar. LB are very underrated musicians.
That tail on the track is not on the radio single version. It doesn't really have anything to do with the next track either. However, it's popular in the hip-hop scene to occasionally have odd-ball interludes attached to the end the album version of certain tracks that are planned out to be singles (something of a bonus to their fans that actually buy their albums). There's also a few other tracks in Limp Bizkit's discography where they do something similar.

The minor 3rd never technically “played” by that point yet (at least in the bass) so the F vs. E was the difference I missed. I need to wait a little longer in the future as it’s easy to do mental math in real-time and overlook it. It’s still fun to do. If you like the musicality of Re-arranged, you should check out Medeski, Martin, and Wood next. They fuse hip-hop and electronica with Jazz pretty well. Songs such as "Pappy Check," "Uninvisible," and "End of the World Party" are worth listening to, but they have a broad catalog well worth exploring.
A lot of people sleep on Limp Bizkit, more so for their reputation than anything. But they are all amazingly talented musicians, including Durst. A lot of nuance and depth in their music in parts.

If you're looking for more Limp Bizkit they have a song called "The One" off their album "Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water" (yes that is the actual title of the record, no I don't know why). It's a simpler but still relatively effective bass line that compliments the rest of the song.
Chocolate starfish is slang for the b hole, a literal honest homage to Fred durst. The hot dog flavored water is some weird inside joke Wes Borland made at a truck stop

I remember when I listened to LB back when I was like 10 and into my teens and I thought they were cool but I never listened to their discography. Now that I’m much older and a much more developed musician I’ve gotten back into them recently and really listened and honestly they were one of the best bands of that era hands down and I wish I had appreciated them more in my youth. Also, dad started as a tuba player in high school and went on to be a professional bassist up until he died. So I can get behind the tuba theory. Lol

All right dude, I will give you a few suggestions with a bit of an idea what to expect. Two good mellow tracks like this one are, It'll Be OK and Boiler. If you want to hear a good example of the band with Mike on guitar instead of Wes go with, Underneath the Gun. Walking Away is a good track for full music experience. Stalemate is a banger and it is from their first album. Good raw track. Stink Finger is another great one from 3 dollar Bill Ya'll.
One very interesting bit I read was from an opera singer who was a neuroscientist, she stated that we don’t like certain types of music because we don’t understand what is happening inside the genres. Apparently, the key is to listen to bands that we write off MORE, not less. Definitely an interesting read.

Hey might have said this in the past but just to make sure, you should definitely do a P-Nut from 311 breakdown, some of the songs that I like personally are Feels so good, Come original, Wake your mind up, and Simple true. I’m sure you might have heard some of their stuff but it’s like reggae rock type music mixed with rap, either way they are definitely a fun listen!
My relationship with nu metal keeps changing by the day. I loved it at 11-13, was embarrassed to tell anybody I’d ever listened to it in my 20s and now am thinking maybe it wasn’t all bad in my 30s
Limp bizkit I relate a lot to Rush. Not that they are musically similar but with both of those bands a lot of people are turned off because of the vocals. A lot of their music is actually very interesting though. Production wise not this album but Limp Bizkit’s first album was produced by Ross Robinson who also produced three of korns albums including the first two.
Bassists from this era don't get the recognition they deserve. I remember all the metal purists hating on Nu Metal because it focused more on feel and aggression than melodic riffs and if they only listened to their whole work, they would maybe understand. Chi Cheng from Deftones (RIP) is another one of those bassists who weren't flashy, but his bass lines complemented the dissonant style of Stephen Carpenter to create such a massive and complete soundscape even with just one guitarist. White Pony has got to be the best album to come out during that era and I will die on that hill lol
Back in the day, Limp Bizkit was just this controversial band with crazy shows... then they became almost universally hated... and now, over the past few years, people are really starting to appreciate how great and unique they really were back then. I love it.

Journey to the end of east bay by Rancid is one of my favorite bass intros. And a blast to play, it’s what made me want to pick a bass up.
The whole song is based on that beginning riff and It's one of my all time favorite lines too
Matt Freeman, Sam Rivers, Fat Mike, and Geezer Butler were the staples in what I learned to play as an early teen bassist in the late 90s/early 00s
The bassline in Limp Bizkit's Nookie is really intriguing too. Worth a listen.
This is their best song in my opinion. I'm not the biggest fan of this band as a whole, but this album is unique and a great album all the way through

All right dude, I will give you a few suggestions with a bit of an idea what to expect. Two good mellow tracks like this one are, It'll Be OK and Boiler. If you want to hear a good example of the band with Mike on guitar instead of Wes go with, Underneath the Gun. Walking Away is a good track for full music experience. Stalemate is a banger and it is from their first album. Good raw track. Stink Finger is another great one from 3 dollar Bill Ya'll.

never understoof the limp bizkit hate. the first 3 albums are classics. people cant stop separating art from their artists and just hate fred durst.
One very interesting bit I read was from an opera singer who was a neuroscientist, she stated that we don’t like certain types of music because we don’t understand what is happening inside the genres. Apparently, the key is to listen to bands that we write off MORE, not less. Definitely an interesting read.

Hey might have said this in the past but just to make sure, you should definitely do a P-Nut from 311 breakdown, some of the songs that I like personally are Feels so good, Come original, Wake your mind up, and Simple true. I’m sure you might have heard some of their stuff but it’s like reggae rock type music mixed with rap, either way they are definitely a fun listen!

My relationship with nu metal keeps changing by the day. I loved it at 11-13, was embarrassed to tell anybody I’d ever listened to it in my 20s and now am thinking maybe it wasn’t all bad in my 30s

Best rhythm section in all of nu-metal. And that's saying something considering there were a ton of killer bands in the genre.

Outside of the intro, i’ve never listened to the bass lines isolated, but it reminds me a bit of space cadet by Kyuss
Limp bizkit I relate a lot to Rush. Not that they are musically similar but with both of those bands a lot of people are turned off because of the vocals. A lot of their music is actually very interesting though.
Production wise not this album but Limp Bizkit’s first album was produced by Ross Robinson who also produced three of korns albums including the first two.

Bassists from this era don't get the recognition they deserve. I remember all the metal purists hating on Nu Metal because it focused more on feel and aggression than melodic riffs and if they only listened to their whole work, they would maybe understand. Chi Cheng from Deftones (RIP) is another one of those bassists who weren't flashy, but his bass lines complemented the dissonant style of Stephen Carpenter to create such a massive and complete soundscape even with just one guitarist. White Pony has got to be the best album to come out during that era and I will die on that hill lol
Back in the day, Limp Bizkit was just this controversial band with crazy shows... then they became almost universally hated... and now, over the past few years, people are really starting to appreciate how great and unique they really were back then. I love it.
