- Опубліковано 6 лют 2025
- In this video you can join me for a walk starting in the Derbyshire village of Litton and dropping down through the beauty of Cressbrook Dale into Miller's Dale. From there we climb up onto the Monsal Trail and walk through Cressbrook and Litton tunnels before descending down into Miller's Dale again at Litton Mill. The final leg of the circuit take us up Tideswell Dale and back into Litton. Overall the walk is around 6.5 miles (10km).

Wonderful hike in the beautiful valleys.
I feel the cold weather but also fresh air.
Thanks for introducing brilliant dales.
Thanks for watching! Yes, it was a cold and fresh day for a walk👍😁
Looks like you had good weather for this walk. Great countryside and village. Like the train tunnel. There is a walk along an old disused train track with tunnel that has been converted into a walking/cycle track that I hope to do sometime. Very nice walk. Liked the variety.
Hi Mark. Yes, it's an interesting walk. The cyclists love that section along the old railway! It's fun to walk through the tunnels, but good to get off onto the smaller paths again 😁 Thanks for watching & catch you soon👍
Beautiful surroundings. The old buildings and tunnel are amazing 👍
Yes, very peaceful and beautiful now. 150 years ago you would have had the noise from the trains and the two large textile mills. Such a lot of history in this area! Thanks for watching👍😊
Beautiful skies, green fields, and lovely trek. Thanks for sharing Des.
Hi Dan! Yes, what a morning to be out walking 😁 Not a demanding walk, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!👍 Thanks for watching! Take care👍😊
Natural beautiful scennery 👍👍👍🙏
It is a beatiful place! 😁 Thanks for watching!👍👍
Hello from Bali ! always happy to see you video. thank you for sharing. see you
Hello to you from England! 😁 Thanks very much for your support👍😊
Beautiful weather looks sunny awesome landscape
It was a lovely day to be out walking! Thanks very much for watching👍
Gorgeous walk. I love that area so much. I can't wait to get back out there again next year 🥾😍
Hi Isaac! Yes, you've done some great videos from this area👍 Hard to beat on a cold crisp day and I love the bits of old industry blended in to the scenery too. Cheers for watching!👍👍
Beautiful walking trail. The up and down walking is tiring and cold. but it's all worth it seeing those nature's beauty. Thumbs up! 34
Thank you! It was a really nice walk on a frosty cold day👍 All the best👍😊
Much better weather and another very scenic walk. Loved the tunnels too. Stay safe, Sue.
Hi Sue! Yes, it was a beautiful day...and not too chilly if you kept on the move. Back to the usual wind and driving rain again now though! ☹ Hopefully it will improve a bit next week! Cheers for watching👍😊
It is so beautiful there. It looks so peaceful.
Hi G & Nicky! Hope you are both keeping well👍 Yes, it's a lovely peaceful walk. Especially that first section dropping down through the valleys. Nice to get some clear skies for a change too! 😁
Lovely circuit, lovely weather. I have not been around here for quite a few years. I remember passing through the tunnels long before lighting was installed but really I always preferred to walk beside the river through the wonderfully named Water-cum Jolly. Thanks for sharing your day out.
Hi Ivor. It's a lovely area isn't it? There seemed to be some work going on along the river path, hence cutting up through the tunnels. Nice to see once in a while, but good to get back off the Monsal Trail again and leave it for the cyclists 😁 Really enjoyable walk, and a perfect day for it! Thanks for watching & catch you soon👍
Very beautiful hike all the different areas you covered were amazing. The views and the village and tunnels as well as the river looked so lovely. 10km is great 👍
Hi Nicole! An interesting and peaceful place to walk now, but I'm sure it was very different 150 years ago with the busy textile mills and the railway coming through! I do enjoy having a mix of history and nature on a hike, so I enjoyed this one a lot. Thanks very much for watching! Have a great weekend👍😊
Oooo Wow 😍😍😍😍😍 Really Nice Video dear friend 🥰🥰🥰😍🥰 Thanks For Sharing With Us Dear friend 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

What a gorgeous walk that was Des.
Fantastic scenery throughout.
I’ve seen that Monsul trail walk a few times and the whole area looks wonderful
Really really must get up there fir a short break
Cheers Des really enjoyed that 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it, Dave👍 It's a lovely area if you do get the chance. You can stay down closer to the river, but there seemed to be some maintenance work going on, so I cut up through the tunnels. The section up river from the Anglers Rest pub is a favourite of mine that I'd highly recommend👍 All the best & take care mate👍
@@DesGreene cheers Des
Sharing a great video, have a good evening and lots of success
Many thanks!👍😊 All the best to you!
Quite a beautiful area with the lush green. Those valleys in the shade had to be cold. The mill pool was cool with the sound of water. Looks like a great hike to Millersdale.
Hi Bill & DeAnna! Yes, it was a little on the cold side, but a picturesque and interesting walk. I'm always fascinated by these remains of old industry around the area. Adds a bit of interest to a walk 😁 Thanks for watching! Hope you are both keeping well👍
Very Good Sharing 💕
Stay safe and stay connected 🙏 💕 🙏 😍
Much appreciated! All the best & take care👍😊
Lovely Walk Des👍 super weather to enjoy the various landscape !enjoyed this 👍🙏🏼 all the best Simon
Hi Simon! Yes, a fascinating and beautiful area to walk👍 I'm missing this weather already! A couple of nice days and we were back to the constant rain! 😁 Hope you're keeping well👍 ATB!
Lovely walk des end to end. I was impressed with them tunnels and the stone work into the side of the hill. Aaah, good to see the Derbyshire river wye and them streams with some water in. Looked fresh out. Have a cool weekend. Mark
Hi Mark. Yes, a really interesting area to walk. Great mix of nature and industrial history👍 We've had plenty of rain recently and it does liven up the Dales nicely when the streams fill up again! 😁 Thanks for watching & hope you have a great weekend also👍
@@DesGreene It looks packed with interest des. Always love to hear the water. A pleasure.
Great to see you on the Trail my friend! Lot of love and respect from a solo mountain hiker from the Lower Chitral District of Pakistan.
Thank you Sana! Best wishes to you and your family also👍😊
A great hike Des! You have some gorgeous landscape there my friend. Enjoyed this one.
Thanks Jim! One of those days you just feel privileged to be out there. I love hiking on those cold frosty days👍😁
Nice walk, thank you for sharing. You have a wonderful upcoming weekend. Take care
Thanks very much for watching! Hope you have a great weekend also👍👍
Love that tunnel!
Hi Tim. Coming out of that sunshine it was like stepping into the Antarctic! 😁 Really interesting to walk through though! The whole area is full of history, with the textile mills etc. Lovely place! Cheers for watching👍👍
Another nice hike Des!!
Thanks Greg! A lovely area and perfect weather for hiking👍😁
You do such lovely walks des, always makes me smile,so many places i want to visit, and its always getting bigger and bigger, only good thing about covid,is makes us appreciate were we live, the stunning england.sorry waffleing big hug debs .x
Ah thanks Debs! 😁 That's the trouble with UA-cam! The list of places to visit just gets longer and longer! 😁 You're right, there are so many things to discover close to home (but I am quite missing the mountains of Southern Spain! 😁). All the best & take care!👍👍
@@DesGreene My plan is 3 years buy motorhome about 40k,toto by then should have gone to the great dog place in the sky, then tour scotland wales, then get ferry to spain and travel round there.sorry waffleing debs.
Beautiful walk ❤️
Hi Cara! It is a really lovely walk, and lots of industrial history along the way! Thanks for watching & see you soon👍
Hi. Fantastic walk. Loved the frost on the trees. We cycled the trail last year - it is a really unique experience.Thank you for taking us along. ATB
It was a nice frosty day for it! The Monsal trail is a real magnet for cyclists. Must be a nice long stretch with great scenery and no traffic! Thanks for watching👍😊
Brilliant 👍🙋😍❤️
Thank you! Much appreciated👍
Probably the late 70s last time I hiked in Millersdale, and through the tunnels when the railway had been closed but they hadn’t really done anything with it. Looks a great day for it (constant rain and grey skies here for weeks!)
Hi Don! Yes, we soon reverted to that type of weather after this walk 😁 They've done a great job with the tunnels. Especially popular with cyclists, but also a really accessible trail for others. Lovely area👍 Hope all is good with you👍😊
Awesome place to walk
Hi Naomi! Yes, it's a really nice and varied walk👍 Hope you are keeping well👍👍
Very nice Des. I love limestone landscapes. I think because I live in a gritstone area they come as a bit of a novelty. ATB, Chris
Hi Chris! I'm lucky to have relatively easy access to both. I have a sort of love/hate relationship with limestone 😁 Love the scenery and wildflowers it gives, and then it tries to break your neck by being slippery as glass! 😁 This walk isn't too bad to be honest, but Monks Dale and one or two others are deadly! Cheers for watching and have a great weekend👍
Interesting walk along the tunnels 👍
Yes, they're really interesting to walk through, but were bitingly cold on that day! 😁 Thanks for watching👍👍
Beautiful. Nice to be able to comment. We have to make the effort to get down that far.
Thanks David. It was a fantastic day to be out! I'm the same about Scotland....so many places I'd love to see but it takes some driving! 😁 Cheers for watching👍
Fantastic as usual, Des. I hope Maria’s ok.
Thanks very much Mike👍 Yes, Maria is doing fine, but she's not able to join me on every outing. Thanks for asking👍😊
Nice share my friend 🤝
Thank you so much 🙂 All the best👍👍
So beautiful upload enjoyed watching stay connected friend
Thank you for watching! All the best to you👍😊
Like 43 Des 5 and a half minutes into video is beautiful off the mill and surroundings. Excellent footages the tunnel long enough ide say the cold wind going through them were cold 🥶 even though you say temperatures dropped rapidy good job again pal lovely video
Hi Fran! Yes, a really interesting walk👍 It was definitely good to get back in the sunlight after those tunnels! 😁 Thanks very much for watching👍
Nice walk and seeing the frost on the grass was lovely. I loved the rushing water like falls whatever that was ? Haha . Nos Da Des
Bore da Anna! 😁 It was a lovely frosty day to be out walking! The water fall is the weir dropping out of the mill pool just above Cressbrook Mill. It must have been a hive of activity around there 200 years ago! A lovely area to explore👍 Yhanks for watching👍😊
Hello my friend, how are you, I am back, great sharing watching, enjoying, and liked.
Great to see you👍 Thanks very much for watching👍😊
That looks absolutely amazing, stay connected my friend
It was a really lovely walk, and a beautiful frosty day for it👍 Thanks for watching and see you soon👍😁
Hi Des, great walk buddy. I liked those tunnels. At first I thought you walked through it twice lol. Until you mentioned there was two. Lol 😆 loved the video
Hi Stephen! It was a lovely walk, but it was absolutely Baltic in those tunnels! 😁 Definitely wouldn't have done it twice! Cheers for watching👍 Hope you and Yhana are both keeping well👍
À Great New share 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you! All the best & see you soon!👍👍
Not hiked this one but like you've said previously everything is so varied and beautiful. Great vlog, thanks for sharing.
It is a very pretty route! I think one of your Ethels, Wardlow Hay, is just a short way of this route. Have you done that one yet?
@@DesGreene no not done Wardlow Hay Cop.
Very amazing 😍❤💖
Thank you👍
Looked an awesome day for it Des nice one buddy
My ideal walking weather....cold, crisp & clear! 😁 All the best mate👍
VIDEO VERY NICE MY FRIEND SUPER LIKE BIG HUG
Thanks very much for watching! All the best & see you soon👍😊
best like it good luck
Thanks very much, you too!👍😊
It's so green where you are walking through.
Yes, plenty of rain here to keep it nice and green! 😁 Thank you for watching👍👍
For some reason I don't do so well with tunnels...sort of get knots in my stomach. A great walk for sure though! Bruce and Otis
Hi Bruce. I'd have preferred to stay down by the river, but there was some work going on that meant I had to cut up through the tunnels. I'm OK in larger tunnels, but you wouldn't catch me squeezing through one of those tiny potholes! 😁 Really enjoyable walk though, and perfect weather! All the best👍👍
Really good walk, I’d like to try that one, thanks
Hi there. It is a lovely walk, especially if you can get there on a week day. As you know, this area can get really busy at weekends. Cheers for watching👍
It's amazing video my friend.. thanks for sharing..See you in your new video..Stay connected 🤗👍🇮🇳❤️
Thank you Aniruddha! Hope you are keeping well👍😊 Take care!
Beautiful walking in a sunny day Des. That little village (5:19) has been abandoned, right? Great moment in Litton tunnel as well, I've really enjojed this video, thanks for sharng friend!
It was such a lovely day to be out walking! 😁 I think the little village or hamlet would originally have been built for the mill workers, but there still seems to be people living there. Very lucky people I would say! 😁 Thanks very much for watching & see you soon!👍😊
Good video👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks very much 👍😊

Lovely walk Des...and much quieter at this time of year....i have not been into the peak district for a few weeks as i have car trouble...she struggles to get up hills...i have had 3 mechanics look at it and they all say that they can find nothing wrong with it...weird..so i am looking for a new car...never mind...should be back to some hills soon...enjoyed this video Des...all the best....ps..what is 10 Kilometers?...i thought us old ones only used miles
Hi Steve. Yes, beautiful and quiet mid week. Can be pretty hellish up on the Monsal Trail at weekends 😨 10km ? ....I think it's 6.214 miles. That new fangled decimal system will never catch on! 🤣 Sorry to hear about the car. You must be climbing the walls! Hope you're back out soon mate👍👍
You are a lucky man to have such great areas for your walkabouts. Thanks again for taking us along. LOL,, where did that dog come from in the tunnel, it was on a mission. What do those tunnels date back to, did I miss that?
Hi Dave & Diane! Yes, it's lovely to have places like this within easy reach. I could hear the dog and the owners for a long time before the dog finally scampered up! 😁 I believe that section of the railway opened in 1863, so the tunnels were probably built near that date. Thanks for watching & Happy Holidays to you both!👍😊
Nice video master watching from cebu, your fishing buddy here 🐠 🎣 hng

Looks a bit nippy Des, have you broken the long Johns out yet?
Not yet, Aggy....but I didn't stop for a rest to let the cold set in! 😁
@@DesGreene ahh yes, it's about at that awkward temperature crossover point, isn't it. Keep moving and stay warm, or layer up and maybe get a bit sweaty.
