- After taking delivery of a new(er) campervan in December, this was our first opportunity to take it out for a test weekend to get used to everything. As the local countryside was all waterlogged and flooded, we didn't get out for a serious walk, but we had a chance to explore to lovely Derbyshire village of Castleton.

Hi Don. Apologies for the slow reply...a belated Happy NY to you also! The site was a great base. Just outside the village, and some of the areas best walks right on hand. Hopefully get back there when the weather warms up a bit! 👍☺

Bore da, Anna! Sut wyt ti? We're really pleased with the new van, and Garfield the guard cat of course! 😁 We had plenty of new stuff to get used to, but it was nice to take time out to have a look around the lovely village and church.

Looks like someone has been splashing the cash and I guess Garfield was your good lady wife's Christmas present and the van was yours🤔. Loved the old church and the fact you could get inside as well, so many are locked now, which is a shame. We always have a cream tea when we are out for a walk in a village and a pint is always mandatory, cheers Alan
Hi Alan! Well we've both broken our piggy banks for the van, but Garfield the guard-cat is definitely Maria's 😁
I was expecting the church to be locked, but was great to get inside and find that story about the basket of errors bible. Really tickled me, that!
I did think of you and Mrs M when we were looking for a tea shop. Most were rammed, but found that nice quiet one when we'd almost given up! ☺

Garfield looks great..both the guard Garfield and the van lol...Your campervan adventures were fantastic and can't wait to see the places the new one goes. I would love to have a cool wee campervan. Hi Scott. Really enjoying the new van, but taking a while to suss out how a few bits work etc.
Castleton is lovely (but busy!). The old church was interesting, and we'd not been around it before. Hopefully a few hikes next time we visit there, as there's some great walking.

Castleton is a lovely old village, but we hadn't been inside the old church before or seen the faulty bible! 😁

Morning! ...and look at that sunshine...and a new van too! Garfield!!! That was my grandfather's name! Garf for short. Plenty of rain here today as well...after a nice snowfall, but all that's gone. Been all over the news the amount of rain and flooding that places over your direction has been getting. Hi Chris. I've been a bit the same this winter. Couldn't face slogging through the mud on that weekend, but enjoyed a nosey around Castleton and a few beers.

Cheers Steve! Really pleased with the new van. Doesn't seem to be any shortage of jackdaws in the village. Must be hard to get a lie in! 😁 Rather an expensive "cheers" that one. They certainly know how to charge for beer in Castleton!

I did laugh at the basket of errors in the church 😂 I Googled Intrepid Solito as I've not heard of that one, but I see it's a local Hope Valley Brewery pale ale 🍻 All the best 👍
Cheers Patrick! We're really loving the new van, and as you say, always a treat to have a wander around Castleton. I hadn't realised Intrepid were from Hope Valley. Don't think it said on the pump clip and it was a new one for me. Well worth a try!

Those scones were rather good👍😁 We'll probably have to stick with the cold for a while until the finabcial shock wears off, but may get over to Spain in March to thaw out👍☺

Like Garfield. He should serve you well, but don’t be surprised if he perks up a little when you make lasagna. 😂 He looks comfortable. Y’all have had a lot of rain. Nice walk about the village. The birds were having a squabble that morning. Love the old church. 12th century (900 years)-amazing. Basket of errors😂😂. Just lovely town with the sounds of the river running through it. Ha ha, I forgot about Garfield's lasagne fixation! Maria had that in the pub, so maybe that's why he looked a bit sulky! 😂
It was a good weekend getting to know the new van, and always nice to visit Castleton.

The "Basket of Errors" story was fun to stumble across. Imagine that, back when printing was such a laborious and expensive process? I bet he was mortified!

Never been into Castleton - only through it loads of times - fascinating little place and the Church was beautiful.

Castleton is well worth a look around. Very busy at weekends though, even in winter!
