    How is your loblolly doing?

Loblolly is unstopable here in TN. Definitely the fastest growing conifer, averaging 5 feet or more of vertical growth per growing season.

Is it normal for M. grandiflora to go through a leaf shedding phase in spring/early summer?

No, not in the spring. The leaf loss in the vid is due to blight.

Yes, definitely. I have a 9 year old edith bogue and it pushes off leaves every spring. It's perfectly normal. He may also have blight, I don't know, but my edith bogue always does this in spring, just like gardenias and hollies do. My edith bogue is 20-25 ft tall, and already pushed off the old leaves. I know because I mow them every week. My tree definitely doesn't have blight though, because after it pushes off the old leaves, all that remains is healthy green leaves.

@@moseseisley557 you may very well have blight (not sure), but it is absolutely normal for edith bogue magnolias to push off their old leaves in spring. Same with holly and gardenias. Every spring you will be mowing those old magnolia leaves that pushed off. You can Google it to confirm, but I am 100% positive about this. See my reply above to chickenfarm09.

@@missjenniferd1 Yes, you're right... i should have said the leaf loss shown in the vid was in the fall, and normally they don't lose leaves then. Luckily it seems the tree is capable of outgrowing the blight.
