My thoughts exactly, but I wonder if you could get more from low molecular weight hyaluronic acid powder, dissolved in water to make a 1% solution, compared to just pure glycerin. Especially price wise.

To each their own, but I am on Team Glycerin. And I can’t say enough good things about the LRP cicaplast gel. Using it around my eyes and mouth has really helped me adapt to using a higher tretinoin concentration. For some reason, hyaluronic acid has never agreed with me and often left my skin feeling drier. I try to avoid it.

Dr. Dray, you SAVED my skin years ago when I watched your videos recommending using HA gel creams on top of wet skin (good old Hada Labo!) with an occlusive moisturizer on top. I've also followed your other recommendations for products and approaches throughout the years and they were life changing. The HA gel cream did wonders to help restore my skin barrier and I still use this method to this day. Some derms on UA-cam are adamant that HA is horrible, and I'm sure it doesn't work the same for everyone, but when properly used it can be very helpful. I had hoped you'd talk about glycerin vs. HA, as you are the one person I will always trust!

The funny thing Dr Dray is that from the time I started using the cicaplast gel (I don't like the baume), it just made sense to me to use it around my eyes and mouth/lips. Not only is glycerin cheaper and readily available, it is also an emollient and slight occlusive (not just a humectant). Furthermore, HA dries out your skin if you live in a dry environment, having the opposite effect.
Other added benefits i learnt from here: increased cell turnover, wound healing properties etc

When HA became popular many years ago (I think as a result of popularity in asian skincare products) I bought a bunch of Japanese HA-based moisturizers and serums for my dry skin. They always irritated my skin like crazy so I went back to my old products. Turns out I have a sensitivity to HA- causes redness, breakouts, and swelling. I stay away from it even if it is low on the ingredient list now and have few issues. I wish it would go away and we could keep glycerin

I don't have a redness from HA, but my skin barrier is overall damaged and I got burning sensation after I used a couple of creams with HA. for me it is too slippery and as it does not penetrate but remains on the surface, it tends to migrate around the eyes and it burns .

For me, hyaluronic acid works for the skin on my face while glycerin works for the skin on my body.

This video/topic is somewhat related to an issue I'm dealing with now, while dealing with perimenopause and treatment for AR- and PR-positive breast cancer: *whispers* vaginal dryness. I have started using a very low dose/strength of estradiol cream, but I was wondering if you could do a video on vaginal moisturizers, as there are certain ingredients (i.e. hyaluronic acid and coconut oil) that are touted as beneficial and non-irritating, while other ingredients (glycerin, parabens, phthalates) can be irritating. Kind of a niche subject, but I can't be the only one struggling with keeping my skin healthy and comfortable "down there" in middle age. Thanks!

I understand what you are going through with dryness down there. After my complete hysterectomy I became super dry. I tried so many different, more natural things, down there, but nothing worked, and some things just irritated me. My GYN prescribed me Estradiol 0.02% cream to put down there 3 times per week. It was the only thing that worked for me! And intercourse is no longer painful! I only wish I had used this all along instead of trying estrogen free stuff that did not work. A little estrogen cream won't hurt, and it will keep things healthy and pain-free where you need it most! Best wishes!

@@MeadowRose7 Oh yay! I'm so glad to hear that it worked for you. I did mention in my original post that I've started using estradiol cream, myself (0.01%). What I didn't mention was that I've been celibate for 5 years (due to a bad breakup, then being isolated as my dad's full-time caregiver). He passed away earlier this year, and I reconnected with romantically with an old friend, but it was long distance until I went to visit him in April. Intercourse ended up being so painful, and I'm sure the lack of sex all those years didn't help matters, but neither does my perimenopause, so I started using the cream a few weeks ago. I haven't - ahem - tested it out yet, but I will be seeing him again soon, soooo fingers crossed!

I live in a very dry climate and find that HA doesn’t plump my skin at all, and often does the opposite. I’m as hydrated internally as I can be. Would glycerin work better for me?

Hyaluronic acid draws moisture from the skin, but when applied on thin skin, like around the eye, it draws way too much moisture, drying the skin - thus more wrinkles. I have seen for myself what happens when you apply NIOD's hyaloronic acid on the eye area: WRINKLES GALORE! Glycerin seems much better than hyaluronic acid. SIMILARLY, melatonin on the skin protects it from UV damage, but when NIACINAMIDE, which is over-abundant in many k-beauty products, is applied to the face, this diminishes the melanin, thus reduces skin protection... MORE WRINKLES GALORE...

I use the ordinary NMF plus HA moisturiser and like it, it doesn't sting my eyes when i use it there. I also use a neutrogena sensitive skin fragrance free oil free one with glycerine but that makes my eyes sting. I like the staying power of the neutrogena one tho. The ordinary one takes a while to sink in but moisture doesn't last long
