I purchased a high end treadmill 2 years ago. I haven’t used it as much as I ought to. I was going to get rid of it… but now I realize I must use it. I have a second side hustle that is very physical for this reason - to get exercise. But I’m also going to resume using my treadmill. I regret not getting a smaller one bc I live in a shoebox apartment.

I think possibly the fact that she may take out or edit small sections of her video may slightly contribute to what you are describing as mechanical. I'm not certain, but that is my guess.
two things I read recently: "I'd rather be the oldest in the gym than the youngest in the nursing home" and "exercise is a celebration of what your body can do and not a punishment for what you ate". In terms of cosmetic benefit of exercise, a fit energetic person is just so much more attractive and often has glowing skin compared to a sedentary person. I’m a dancer. I’m 47 and most people think I’m 20 years younger. I can attest to the anti-aging benefits of life long dancers. Beautiful posture, health, glowing skin and overall happy people. I swear that dance has been the best exercise for me, and it’s so much fun ❤
@@nutech1810 You'd be surprised, that is perimenopause for some but not everyone looks it. If you eat well, sleep well, rarely drink, exercise, skincare, you can still look much younger. Yes genetics help.
I spent nearly 30 years in a sedentary lifestyle because I thought I hated exercise. It turned out I just hadn't found the right activities. Now I'm active 3-4 days a week doing pole dance, aerial hoop acrobatics, and ballet. It's easy to stay consistent if you can find sports that genuinely excite you!

I’m often asked why I exercise when I don’t need to lose weight (BMI ~18.5). My response is that I do it for bone health, cardiac health, mental health, to prevent dementia, to prevent fraility. Now I will add skin health to the list.
Amen and Amen ... I am 71 years old and walk 5-7 miles (on hills) EVERY day. It has made a huge difference in my health and life - you are absolutely right about the benefits - I have the cardiovascular strength of someone 1/2 my age. I have also taken up weight training for upper body work out. Preach It!!!
Good for you! I am 60 & also walk 5-7 miles every day (with a 10 lb weighted vest on). I cannot imagine a day without walking. It is literally my life-line. If for some reason I am not feeling 100%, I will split up my walk & walk 3 miles in the morning & 3 miles in the evening. Over the last year I have gone from walking a 19 minute mile to a 15-16 minute mile (depending on whether or not I have my dog with me. The sniff breaks slow me down, haha). 😊
Dr Dray was definitely thinking about me today. It's my birthday. Today I am 55. And I have been working out since I was 5 and have had a gym membership since age 9. MY parents couldn't afford much, but they could afford the gym. At 23 I became a fitness instructor. I have been teaching for 32 years. Trust me when I tell you Exercise is the be all and end all for me. I prioritize it over everything and everyone. For me Exercise is LIFE❤❤

That's what I do too. Daily cardio (swimming or walking for 30-45 mins) and kettlebell swings (30-60 reps) daily. It's not much, but it really helps with my depression.

If you don't have a 30 minute block of time to walk every day, splitting it up into 3 10 minute walks is actually more beneficial. Just because it gets your blood moving several times a day. It can even be as simple as going for a quick walk around the block right after you eat. That has the added benefit of helping with digestion and also managing blood glucose levels
To me, there is no better exercise than ballet and modern dance. As well as being a good workout, it's mentally stimulating because it's an art form. You are striving to create beauty in the complicated lines you and your fellow dancers make moving through space. And it is also very sociable. Dancing together creates a real bond between people. So much fun! BTW, I'm 70 years old. I've learned how to make adjustments to my technique to protect myself from injury. I don't think there has to be an expiration date for dancing.
Thank you, Dr. Dray, this needs to be said for a long time. We get bombarded with creams, oils, peptides, and so on, but exercise, diet, and sleep are also very important.

Exercise is SO beneficial to your overall health, and it makes you look and feel younger! Keeping my mobility is my #1 priority as I age. 150 minutes of Moderate exercise: 15-min in the am; 15-min in pm--5 days per week. Walking after dinner helps digestion and weight loss. 15-min light weight routine, 15-min walking. Use your phone as the timer. No excuses.

I left my desk job of the past 20 years. Started serving at a popular Bar/Grille on the beach. Great money and I put in 3-5 miles per shift. (I always sunscreen) Win/win! 🎉
Agree 100% Dr. Dray.. I love you address many life concerns on your channel… keep your mobility strong in your younger years. Walk a mile a day. Join a fitness group. Stay active! I used to work with the elderly and the #1 silent harmful factor was broken bones. After they are not able to move around their mental state declines. Unfortunately, it was very hard for them to make it out of a hip break or leg breaks. Very very sad. 😪

Totally agree! Along with exercise, keep your mind sharp. After I retired, I started tutoring in trig, physics, and Latin just to keep my brain going. Yes, I read, but reading is passive. Teaching forces me to stay sharp AND allows me to hear the thinking of teenagers, very interesting because it's so different from the way my mind works. I needed this video to get me back into medium impact exercise since I have super small bones, high risk for osteoporosis.🙄
I love how encouraging you are Dr Drey and explain that we don’t need to think about being active in extremes to get physical benefits of exercise. Once you establish an exercise routine the conditioning you will reap will encourage you to keep developing. Exercise is an amazing therapeutic. ✌🏽
I am sorry, but your comment really made me laugh! Not because your husband had a gash on his arm of course! It's because you said he does 2 miles a day on a treadmill, "rain or shine." Such great points. I wear sunscreen daily, a hat and sunglasses. I exercise 5 times per week at the gym. Walk every day. Limited alcohol. I cook most of my meals, which are delicious and heavily plant based. I do have a good skincare regimen including washing my face daily with gentle cleanser. Vitamin C serum in the morning under my sunscreen and Tretinoin 3 or 4 times a week at night and a good simple moisturizer. I’m 59 and look great for my age, so I’m told. 😊
Even doing household chores is a form of exercise because not only you organize and clean your private area (your home) but also you are doing some sort of body training from all that dusting, mopping and going up and down tidying things up around the house. Yes, resistance training is so important, especially for us women, and the crazy thing is that we’re sometimes discouraged from doing it in favor of just doing cardio “to burn calories” (which doesn’t even really work, intentional exercise is such a tiny fraction of your TDEE). Also, an exercise routine was so much easier for me to stick to once I stopped seeing it as a way to alter my appearance and started seeing it as a way to make my body stronger and more capable.
Also, the awesome thing about exercise is that its benefits are cumulative, so it’s not all or nothing. If you can’t get the ideal recommended amount, any activity is always better than no activity. Start small if you have to.
I love that outlook! Also, exercise makes you feel good. It lessens my chronic pain and elevates my mood, which are very good incentives to keep doing it!

This is great advice, and it’s really important for people to hear this in the context of skincare, anti-aging, etc. But I wish it was that simple. I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, craniocervical instability, chronic fatigue, dysautonomia (some POTS-like symptoms but not yet diagnosed), and many other medical conditions. Exercise is soooo complicated. I’ve benefited a lot from reducing my activity level across the board, not just exercise, and a lot of the time I have to do things to “conserve energy,” meaning don’t park further away at the grocery store, don’t take the stairs, etc. But if everything is going well, I do a little walking most days (meaning 5-10 minutes at a slow pace). I do PT-style exercises focused on strength and stability. I’m constantly trying to make exercise a habit, but that is difficult when my symptoms vary a lot day-to-day. Not to mention how often I injure myself and have to take the time to recover. I’m not making excuses. I do what I can when I can. But people get very judgy about exercise, and I feel like it’s always worth pointing out that for some people it is not as simple as choosing to take a walk instead of sitting on the couch.
I do IPL/laser for my rosacea in winter and still exercise. It has improved my life, back pain and migraines. Hope I can do it for a really long time. I still get red in my face maybe slightly bit more than other people but I can really feel the benefits of the gym. Can't belive how much better I feel since I started weight lifting one year ago. I have a dog and I am outside walking a lot, working inside the house and garden but lifting weights is my holy grail
Living a happy and healthy life is more important than some wrinkles. Aging is a privilege. I mean, what’s the alternative? An early death. Live your life, drink water, and do the best you can 💕

Zesty Grandma! LOL love it - this is is my goal. I twisted my ankle recently while working in the garden. Having to slowly limp around for ten days made me grateful that I normally zip around and am very active. And I hope to stay zippy/zesty as long as possible! Another factor for healthy aging that often gets overlooked is drinking plenty of water. My elderly neighbor was experiencing dizzy spells/vertigo (and at her age a fall could be quite serious) and it turned out she was severely dehydrated.
Dr. Dray, your commitment to health has motivated me to take small, consistent steps. I’ve committed to more fiber and 7k steps a day. Taking a walk a night really helps my sleep.
There was a small Japanese study on resistance/weight training twice a week using middle-aged women that found an increase in growth factors, improving of elasticity in the dermis.
Good going Dr Dray, use it or lose it. Quality of life is the goal and that is much more complex than a jar of skin cream. Good nutrition, exercise for stamina, strength and flexibility and all the mental / emotional benefits. A few close relationships, a social system, some kind of spiritual life, and most importantly, something useful to do. Finally, Gratitude
if you are disabled like myself and in a wheelchair or that you cannot move, don't stress too much with that pressure of exercices, i know you are doing your best and it is so courageous to live in an ableist societies... cultivate your confidence in yourself, in doing baby steps, in your body despite its condition, it will reflect on your face ! Health is much more than doing this or that especially for people like us , it is much more global and sometimes more subtil .
This! There’s also science that imagining play helps you just as much. As a kid, I would often imagine something like riding my bike or a horse on the side of the road while I rode in the car :) ❤ I am also disabled, and your comment helped a lot!

I appreciate this video so much because I had the best skin of my life when I was exercising vigorously and regularly. I got a lot of compliments on my what I now know to be “glass skin.” Then menopause, a ridiculous number of chronic illness diagnoses, and a string of tragedies did a number on my skin. I aged dramatically in a short period of time and am having more issues with it than ever before. It’s as if I’m having to start over from scratch in learning to take care of my skin. It’s not easy. If you are able to exercise, do it! Stick with it and your skin will love it.
Just want to say that since I have been following your videos around 2.5 years ago, 95% of all my facial skin issues have disappeared. I am 75 years old and people always say I appear to be in my mid 60s. I know genetics play a large part in that, however, I know that a lot of the improvement in my skin has to do with your advice and direction. Thank you so very much for being there.

I’ve got some good news (I’m 60yo)… having a great skin regimen will keep you looking good. I’ve done it for years and stayed out of the sun. It’s never too late to do it either. Skin can improve. At aged 40 yo I had hyper pigmented skin from using SPF20 moisturisers. I started to use vitamin C serums and moved to SPF50. I wore hats. My skin looked cleaner and better at 50 than it did at 60 yo. My wrinkles were less prominent and my skin was firmer. Since then I have added in niacinamide. Skin spots and hyperpigmentation age you more than you think. It destroys collagen. I see women my age who look so much older than myself facially. Too much sun. Keep it OFF YOUR FACE AND NECK at all times. Wear SPF all the time when out. It’s not that hard to maintain good skin. No you won’t look 20 at 60! But you will look good and have far less deep lines, sagging and wrinkles than other women your age. The whole point is to have your skin look good at any age. Good FOR YOUR AGE.
My mum has osteoporosis, so I started lifting weights after years away. I am so pleasantly surprised to see how much muscle memory is still here in my mid-forties. Unexpectedly, my results seem to be almost as definitive as they were in my thirties, although I certainly have more aches and fussy skin to work through. 😂 Perhaps I’m being rewarded for fighting against the awful myth that we must decline over the hill.
After 2 hip replacements and being at the shady end of the 60s i love to walk and notice such a difference if i dont I am a zesty granny and can keep up with my grandkids because i do my 150 minutes a week.Also i do take care of my skin but am not obsessed with aging. HELLO! At 68 i AM old! What a privelege and a blessing to be so.

Thank you very, very, very much to finally be someone who will incorporate and epmhasize the other very important things we can and we should do in our life, so that we can even be able to live long enough and capable enough to have a will to put all those lotions and potions on our faces. Nothing of that will be possible if we neglect our body now, because we are to obsessed with our skincare. Thank you very much for this motivational and inspirational video. If you don't have a 30 minute block of time to walk every day, splitting it up into 3 10 minute walks is actually more beneficial. Just because it gets your blood moving several times a day. It can even be as simple as going for a quick walk around the block right after you eat. That has the added benefit of helping with digestion and also managing blood glucose levels

To me, there is no better exercise than ballet and modern dance. As well as being a good workout, it's mentally stimulating because it's an art form. You are striving to create beauty in the complicated lines you and your fellow dancers make moving through space. And it is also very sociable. Dancing together creates a real bond between people. So much fun! BTW, I'm 70 years old. I've learned how to make adjustments to my technique to protect myself from injury. I don't think there has to be an expiration date for dancing.

Thank you, Dr. Dray, this needs to be said for a long time. We get bombarded with creams, oils, peptides, and so on, but exercise, diet, and sleep are also very important.
Such good, sage advice. My 85 year old father had wound issues earlier this year and took months to heal. I changed his diet, and his wound started to heal faster and faster.

Exercise is SO beneficial to your overall health, and it makes you look and feel younger! Keeping my mobility is my #1 priority as I age. 150 minutes of Moderate exercise: 15-min in the am; 15-min in pm--5 days per week. Walking after dinner helps digestion and weight loss. 15-min light weight routine, 15-min walking. Use your phone as the timer. No excuses.

I left my desk job of the past 20 years. Started serving at a popular Bar/Grille on the beach. Great money and I put in 3-5 miles per shift. (I always sunscreen) Win/win! 🎉
Agree 100% Dr. Dray.. I love you address many life concerns on your channel… keep your mobility strong in your younger years. Walk a mile a day. Join a fitness group. Stay active! I used to work with the elderly and the #1 silent harmful factor was broken bones. After they are not able to move around their mental state declines. Unfortunately, it was very hard for them to make it out of a hip break or leg breaks. Very very sad. 😪

Totally agree! Along with exercise, keep your mind sharp. After I retired, I started tutoring in trig, physics, and Latin just to keep my brain going. Yes, I read, but reading is passive. Teaching forces me to stay sharp AND allows me to hear the thinking of teenagers, very interesting because it's so different from the way my mind works.

I love how encouraging you are Dr Drey and explain that we don’t need to think about being active in extremes to get physical benefits of exercise. Once you establish an exercise routine the conditioning you will reap will encourage you to keep developing. Exercise is an amazing therapeutic. ✌🏽
My husband is 78 and experienced a very bad gash on his arm. I was amazed how fast he healed. He does 2 miles a day on our treadmill, rain or shine.

Such great points. I wear sunscreen daily, a hat and sunglasses. I exercise 5 times per week at the gym. Walk every day. Limited alcohol. I cook most of my meals, which are delicious and heavily plant based. I do have a good skincare regimen including washing my face daily with gentle cleanser. Vitamin C serum in the morning under my sunscreen and Tretinoin 3 or 4 times a week at night and a good simple moisturizer. I’m 59 and look great for my age, so I’m told. 😊

Even doing household chores is a form of exercise because not only you organize and clean your private area (your home) but also you are doing some sort of body training from all that dusting, mopping and going up and down tidying things up around the house. Yes, resistance training is so important, especially for us women, and the crazy thing is that we’re sometimes discouraged from doing it in favor of just doing cardio “to burn calories” (which doesn’t even really work, intentional exercise is such a tiny fraction of your TDEE). Also, an exercise routine was so much easier for me to stick to once I stopped seeing it as a way to alter my appearance and started seeing it as a way to make my body stronger and more capable.
Also, the awesome thing about exercise is that its benefits are cumulative, so it’s not all or nothing. If you can’t get the ideal recommended amount, any activity is always better than no activity. Start small if you have to.
I love that outlook! Also, exercise makes you feel good. It lessens my chronic pain and elevates my mood, which are very good incentives to keep doing it!
I started in high school and my parents told me don’t lift weights! Men don’t like a girl with muscles! Luckily I ignored them
Exercise is also helping my mental health! In the winter, if I can’t get out due to icy conditions, I use youtube for exercise- no excuses!

This is great advice, and it’s really important for people to hear this in the context of skincare, anti-aging, etc. But I wish it was that simple. I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, craniocervical instability, chronic fatigue, dysautonomia (some POTS-like symptoms but not yet diagnosed), and many other medical conditions. Exercise is soooo complicated. I’ve benefited a lot from reducing my activity level across the board, not just exercise, and a lot of the time I have to do things to “conserve energy,” meaning don’t park further away at the grocery store, don’t take the stairs, etc. But if everything is going well, I do a little walking most days (meaning 5-10 minutes at a slow pace). I do PT-style exercises focused on strength and stability. I’m constantly trying to make exercise a habit, but that is difficult when my symptoms vary a lot day-to-day. Not to mention how often I injure myself and have to take the time to recover. I’m not making excuses. I do what I can when I can. But people get very judgy about exercise, and I feel like it’s always worth pointing out that for some people it is not as simple as choosing to take a walk instead of sitting on the couch.

I do IPL/laser for my rosacea in winter and still exercise. It has improved my life, back pain and migraines. Hope I can do it for a really long time. I still get red in my face maybe slightly bit more than other people but I can really feel the benefits of the gym. Can't belive how much better I feel since I started weight lifting one year ago. I have a dog and I am outside walking a lot, working inside the house and garden but lifting weights is my holy grail

Zesty Grandma! LOL love it - this is is my goal. I twisted my ankle recently while working in the garden. Having to slowly limp around for ten days made me grateful that I normally zip around and am very active. And I hope to stay zippy/zesty as long as possible! Another factor for healthy aging that often gets overlooked is drinking plenty of water. My elderly neighbor was experiencing dizzy spells/vertigo (and at her age a fall could be quite serious) and it turned out she was severely dehydrated.
Dr. Dray, your commitment to health has motivated me to take small, consistent steps. I’ve committed to more fiber and 7k steps a day. Taking a walk a night really helps my sleep.

There was a small Japanese study on resistance/weight training twice a week using middle-aged women that found an increase in growth factors, improving of elasticity in the dermis.

if you are disabled like myself and in a wheelchair or that you cannot move, don't stress too much with that pressure of exercices, i know you are doing your best and it is so courageous to live in an ableist societies... cultivate your confidence in yourself, in doing baby steps, in your body despite its condition, it will reflect on your face ! Health is much more than doing this or that especially for people like us , it is much more global and sometimes more subtil .
This! There’s also science that imagining play helps you just as much. As a kid, I would often imagine something like riding my bike or a horse on the side of the road while I rode in the car :) ❤

I appreciate this video so much because I had the best skin of my life when I was exercising vigorously and regularly. I got a lot of compliments on my what I now know to be “glass skin.” Then menopause, a ridiculous number of chronic illness diagnoses, and a string of tragedies did a number on my skin. I aged dramatically in a short period of time and am having more issues with it than ever before. It’s as if I’m having to start over from scratch in learning to take care of my skin. It’s not easy. If you are able to exercise, do it! Stick with it and your skin will love it.

I am 75 years old and people always say I appear to be in my mid 60s. I’ve got some good news (I’m 60yo)… having a great skin regimen will keep you looking good. I’ve done it for years and stayed out of the sun. It’s never too late to do it either. Skin can improve. At aged 40 yo I had hyper pigmented skin from using SPF20 moisturisers. I started to use vitamin C serums and moved to SPF50. I wore hats. My skin looked cleaner and better at 50 than it did at 60 yo. My wrinkles were less prominent and my skin was firmer. Since then I have added in niacinamide. Skin spots and hyperpigmentation age you more than you think. It destroys collagen. I see women my age who look so much older than myself facially. Too much sun. Keep it OFF YOUR FACE AND NECK at all times. Wear SPF all the time when out. It’s not that hard to maintain good skin. No you won’t look 20 at 60! But you will look good and have far less deep lines, sagging and wrinkles than other women your age. The whole point is to have your skin look good at any age. Good FOR YOUR AGE.

My mum has osteoporosis, so I started lifting weights after years away. I am so pleasantly surprised to see how much muscle memory is still here in my mid-forties. Unexpectedly, my results seem to be almost as definitive as they were in my thirties, although I certainly have more aches and fussy skin to work through. 😂 Perhaps I’m being rewarded for fighting against the awful myth that we must decline over the hill.
