The first time I heard this it was on the car radio back in the 90s . I pulled off to the side ti listen and I thought I was hearing Roy Orbison from the voice and the guitar . Only many years later I found it was Chris Isaak.
Roy Orbison meets Elvis. And his own twist of course. A sad song about a woman you love that doesn’t love you back, and its almost wicked that he should feel like this and can do nothing. A feel of longing and dare I say, despair. An amazing song.
If you ever get an opportunity to see him in concert, don't miss out. The band is this crisp and clear, the musicians all excellent and he's quite the entertainer. He's had a few acting roles and hosted a TV show in the past.
Saw him 35 years ago, in Bordeaux, France, one or two years after Blue Hotel album. The concert at "Le Grand Parc" the planned concert hall, was cancelled at the last moment, coz not enough audience or whatever... So he decided to play in a club (Le Chat Bleu, kind of Bordeaux' Marquee Club)... Chris and his band just for us, 2 hundred fans... and free beer. Great memory.

They went back the next day to re-shoot something, and the whole thing was gone. Chris has a wicked sense of humor, and he's a prankster. At least one popular late night comedy talk show host described him as "trouble". He tells great stories during his concerts, and elsewhere.
Chris is an amazing singer and his band is one of the best. They're top notch musicians and have played together for decades. To see them in concert, they're also fun and very entertaining. I've had the joy of catching them several times and every time, they all make an effort to acknowledge the audience as the reason they're there in the first place. No autotune, no faking it in any way. The guitar sound has a heavy 60s Surf influence - i.e. a magical blend of Spanish and Middle Eastern sounds mixed with electric guitar and heavy reverb. Done slowly like this, it adds an almost eerie vibe that is hypnotic. Just close your eyes and feel it.
@@MaddyReactions @brittreacts Let me suggest another video you should react to. The Eagles with their song "Lying Eyes." Written by Don Henley and Glenn Frey, sung by Glenn Frey. I know you've heard of "Hotel California", with Don Henley singing which is arguably their most famous song. However, this song "Lying Eyes" is more country rock and tells a very compelling story. I believe this was recorded casually during a sound check for a concert scheduled for later that night. That's why it seems loose and yet full of feeling. The album containing this song is "Heart-Shaped World," which has several of Isaak's best songs on it.
Chris is phenomenal. He was very popular for a bit. He even had a TV variety and music show On TV. Problem is his music does not fit into a category. It is not country, but not pop. Not blues but not blue grass either. It is just good music. He still tours and is still killing it with that voice.

Chris actually wrote this song for Roy Orbison, another singer who had great range and a good falsetto. But Roy suggested that Chris record it himself. He did and it came out in 1989. But it took a couple of years before it became popular.

Bought my first Chris Isaak cd in 1989 and saw him a few weeks ago for the first time live in Lisbon, Portugal. It was awesome and I'll gladly admit to tearing up when they played Blue Spanish Sky. You can see a killer version of that song too on UA-cam from the same session. It also brings back memories of the early 90s when a friend of mine and I tried to convert each other to our own musical preferences. He was totally into house music and I was more on the "real music" spectrum. I dropped Wicked Game on him, as well as Elvis Costello's I Want You. Suffice it to say we managed to convert each other somewhat. Keep an open mind to different types of music and you might discover some good stuff.
This track was covered in a very different style a few years ago by a now-20- year-old Russian named Diana Ankudinova. It's unlikely you've ever heard a voice quite like hers. Her range extends down into the male tenor, & even baritone registers. Even if you don't do a formal reaction to it, I hope you give it a listen; guaranteed to leave you gobsmacked !
@@MaddyReactions Isaak was the original, Diana's is different, and one of the few people I think could have pulled it off. The song requires an ability to put a ton of emotion into your voice. Both are excellent at pulling your emotions w/their voice..

Just discovered you....great reaction. Coming in at #2 in my all time favorite Isaak songs.
He’s pretty well-known throughout the world I’m pretty sure. Huge in the states. This song has been a classic for years. Watch the original cut. That was released on video. Smoldering! Nice. First time catching you! And you are a cutie too. My dear.
I love your reaction channel. I never get sick of this song.
I always get that tropical getaway feeling
I drive for Uber and Chris Isaak's greatest hits is one of my 'go to' albums that I play for background music. Got pretty good tip from one pax for my musical taste.
Beautiful reaction to a beautiful song❤
The video of this song propelled him - brief superstar success with that single - gorgeous video. Super talented fellow,.
Just a nice song brings me back in time, think ill go take a time walk back tonight, thanks for the que.
Saw Chris at one of the Mississippi casinos just south of Memphis. Would love for him to come back thru one day soon. Speaking of Chris Isaak and Memphis, check out any of the songs off his Beyond the Sun album. He recorded covers of songs by Elvis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, etc out of world-famous Sun Studio.
I am in Canada. Great reaction. You have such a beautiful smile. I could watch it all day.
Wow, thank you 🤍
@@MaddyReactions you are welcome.
Straight out of the USA saying hi to the Beautiful Maddy❤🔥❤ Keep reviewing the great tunes.
The official video of this song is freaking awesome.
Chris’ voice is smoother than smooth plus more smooth.
Excelente cantante,hermosa cancion.
Back in the 1980's Chris would do live performances between music videos on MTV. If you want to see Chris at his wildest. React to his official music video "Baby did a bad bad thing"...
Beautiful song..
Beatiful reaction.
Fantastic song, combination of blues and jazz!
Great reaction Maddy! I was lucky enough to see the band in ‘95 at the HOB on Sunset. We were a few feet from the stage, but Madonna was in the balcony. Forever Blue is one of the best albums ever. Please also react to the official music video. ✌️❤️🔥
He did a voice acting role and a song for the Cartoon Network animated series "Over The Garden Wall"
