Yes, watch the official video: the production on this version isn't as good. Regarding cover versions, the one by Heather Nova is my favorite: she's an _exquisite_ singer, and a very good songwriter in her own right too, who doesn't get nearly enough attention. Check out her songs "Sugar" (rocky) and "I Miss My Sky" (acoustic ballad) if you're curious.
Such a beautiful timeless song and Chris is the perfect voice for it. The actual music video is very cinematic and sensuous. Definitely worth checking out.
That is good one. It reminds me a little of Alex Guodino with Crystal Waters - Destination Unknown. Musically different but it has some of the same good visuals.
Good comparison! Speaking of Roy Orbison, Chris Isaak's version of "Only the Lonely" is just sublime. In case you haven't heard it, you'll find it on his "Baja Sessions" album, one of my all-time favorites.
"Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing" "Wild Love" Chris Isaak was a throwback to rock and roll stars of the 50s. In the best way possible. Very rockabilly but also just as smooth as hot butter.
I always love how cute you are when not even a minute into the song, it starts carrying you and you get all happy moving with the music 🖤Also loving the thumbnail for this so I hope to see it on the patreon soon 😭
Chris and his bandmates starred in a great TV show about him, and the band and their somewhat fictionalized lives. It features a unique role for network TV, a beautiful female character who in the entire run of the series never once wore even one piece of clothing, playing a woman playing a mermaid in a lounge the band frequented, and friend/advisor of Chris. Great show!
Chris has been described as a cross between Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison. Seriously think Chris is super cool. Loved his TV show. And love how he goes out into the community when his get into town and performs the morning of the show. Usually in coffee shops and gives out tickets.
BTW, All the guys want to see the official video because the video features the Supermodel Helena Christensen. I don't blame them a bit. Any excuse to see Christensen.
Thank you for the video love your reactions. Once again it’s been a pleasure watching and listening to you and your thoughts. You are one of my favourite music reactors by far
Aileen, I remember first hearling this when it was released, and was just captivated by it. Looks like you were affected in exactly the same way many of us over the years have been - a song that is felt, not just listened to. Many years on now, I have experience of what the song has as it's theme, but your view on it does give it a more of a positive feel than I would not have thought of.
Imagine having to go to one of those horrid "young people dance clubs" to hang with your intensely gorgeous shooter-girl friend three nights a week. Then imagine having to be there until closing time so she could slow dance with her fave DJ to this song. Only then being rewarded with getting to take her for her hot chocolate treat and driving her home. As Chris sings, stunningly beautiful women can make you do some amazing things, and you love every moment LOL.
Aileen please check out the original music video. It’s incredibly sexy and goes so well with this song even if you don’t react to it just watch yourself please. You won’t regret it.
@@telemperor she was 14 when she sang Rechenka on this show in the first season of You are Super. The second season for winners of previous shows she sang Wicked Game and at the finally she sang Human and was crowned the winner once again.
Thank you for all your reviews! My main musical trend is death-metal, but I fit in other types of music very well! I heard Chris Isaak for the first time in high school (24 year ago) and I was blown away! So far, I have heard many performers tackle this song, some of them profaned this song, some of them did great, but for me, Chris's performance is number 1! Greetings to all fans
I'm actually from his hometown. Growing up I would see him from time to time at the local Red Lobster when he would take his mother to dinner for her birthday or Mother's Day. He was super humble and down to earth.
That 'slide guitar' sprinkled throughout the song just gives me goosebumps every time...and it's takes something special to pull that off...the original music video features model Helena Christiansen...
Saw Mr. Isaak open for Stevie Nicks at Red Rocks around 15 years or so ago. Halfway into his set, Chris said to the crowd, "You know, when I was younger I used to climb to the top of this place." And then began weaving his way up through the audience. Immediately I told my girlfriend, "He's heading right towards us." Sure enough, our seats were about 1/3 of the way up and Chris climbed right up to our row, stopped & stood inbetween my gf & I, talked to the crowd, looked at me then began climbing towards the top again using my shoulder to propell himself upward. Not all that exciting really but I thought it was pretty fuckin kewl. Haven't washed the shoulder since...🫠
I want to Thank You for bearing your emotions with us in every video. You mentioned guarding yourself from others as we all tend to sometimes. And yet u have the bravery to show ur emotions to us all in every video. Great channel u have built!
Such a gorgeous song and Chris' incredible voice is showcased in this one. He's plaintive, almost crying, yet he never allows the emotion to control his voice. I've seen Chris and his band five or six times and each occasion has been a little different while still delivering their amazing music. A few times, he's come out on stage in a suit of 1/2" square pieces of mirror. Their shows are very entertaining and always fun. Their sound is a blend of 50s Rockabilly and early 60s Surf and it makes them so unique among all others. This was their only major hit, but they recorded a large number of fantastic tracks. On another note, dear Aileen, I've also had to build walls before. But the truth about love is that it's a gamble worth taking. Yes, we can get hurt, but we never learn and grow without the pain. And the chance of finding that One is worth the risk. I rolled the dice several years ago and found the person I've always wished for. A Filipina, her family called us Coffee and Cream and we blended just as nicely. ♥ Sadly, cancer had other ideas about our time together in this lifetime but we've promised to find each other in the next one. She has to find me as she's promised a spank for crying at her bedside 🤣
I met Chris Isaak once. Mid 1990s I was in South Lake Tahoe with my friends, early morning getting ready to go snowboarding at Heavenly. He was doing a concert later that night at one of the Casino's. All the sudden a limo pulls up into the parking lot. Chris Isaak steps out, and want's to talk to us. He had such a great vibe, we had a chat, he shaked all our hands, got back in his limo, and roled out like an absolute OG.
Definitely watch the official video! This live session is nice, but the original studio version sets the standard. Love your reaction and insights on this song. It's a blast to play on the bass, too, so put it on your list.
I like this version and the emotion that comes across is mesmerizing. His vocal is rich and crescendos so nicely throughout the song, and those backing vocals. Chef's kiss. The guitars are stunning. Great vibe. Aileen, your reaction is a joy to listen too. Floating indeed.
I know how you feel. I've been hurt VERY badly in my life also. It's really hard for me to trust people also. This song hits right where it hurts. But yet, it's so validating to know you're not alone in this specific kind of pain. Peace to our hearts. 🙏
The official video is wonderful, because of the black and white format, the gorgeous model and the very good photography. I recommend it to you. Greetings from Mexico
It's been nice watching you find such a connection with that deeply beautiful song. Besides that, I was surprised to hear that some people had the heart to break your trust, you're such a lovely person...
I remember well when this song came out in 1989; I couldn't get the store fast enough to add it to my collection and it's still on my playlist to this day 35 years later! Aileen you must watch the music video and I would love it if you would react to it. Thank you sooo much for covering this song. He's quite a character on stage!!
Chris Isaak always seemed like a pretty cool character to me, but if I'm being honest, I probably never really knew a whole lot about him outside of this song. This song was so huge when it came out, for good reason, but also because the music video included him frolicking on the beach with Helena Christiansen, one of the top supermodels in the world at the time, which definitely caught the attention of boys of a certain age at the time, like myself, and is probably why everyone wants you to react to it, though it's not dramatically different from this. This was definitely a career peak for him, but I'm not sure that this song was very representative of his music in general. It's been so long, and I probably only ever heard so much of his stuff, but just from his look, he had more of a rockabilly style that I think was probably more representative of his music. I remember he used to wear like those old Marty Stuart suits, which that reference is probably lost on you, but he's wearing the Hawaiian shirt in this one, but look at the style of his guitar and guitar strap, if that helps at all. Personally, I kind of dig that, and always thought he looked pretty cool, but I don't think it fits what most people assumed about him from this song, and that most of his stuff was a little more country. Which is maybe why outside of this song, he was never really as popular as he could've been, but who doesn't love this song? It's one of the all time greats!
This is very well done live here, but you really should check out the official video.... voted sexiest video multiple years in a row back when MTV was about music.
@@AileenSenpai As the action gets hot and heavy remember that Chris and Helena (the female star) actually had an intense disgust for each other while filming. It makes the hot & heavy seem that much more "fun."
Watched him and his band live in open air concerts, tiny club venue, and in a concert hall and he is always very entertaining and fantastic. On stage he and the band joke around a lot and pull the audience into their banter so you never leave one of his concerts thinking anything but that you just had the greatest time ever. Oh, and don't get me started about those cool suits he wears in concert, only Chirs could get away with them LOL
This is such an amazing live version, it sounds almost exactly like the studio version. The fact that it was recorded more than 30 years after the original studio version is amazing! You should definitely check out the original studio version/video
I think Wicked Game has to be one of my favourite songs. Period. I first heard the HIM version and fell in love with it. There are SO many fantastic variations out there, but of course the original is beautiful. 🥰
I first saw Chris Isaak's video for Gone Ridin' in the late 80's on BET. Loved the song. I went down to the local music store and had the album ordered. Wow! How things have changed.
Love your channel and genuine reactions Aileen! Beautiful reaction to a beautiful song. As to the worries about connecting with and trusting people and relationships, whether romantic or platonic, don't even waste time thinking about it. It's such a normal, human condition that we ALL go through at some point. Especially after having our hearts broken. It's so normal in fact, that countless artists have written songs about it over the decades, to spread their message and cautionary tale of pain to those around them through their music and lyrics. And you have a friend here. Lifelong 🥰🤗
His voice is so magical that it draws you in. It's so beautiful in It's delivery, that I have noticed that it melts women's hearts and makes men turn to jelly. I love this song on because of the way it makes me feel. It's very beautiful.
This song always affects me, probably like a million other people but still, wham right in the feels. Another poignant and wonderful reaction, thank you for this.
This is such a great song, If I remember correctly, my wife and I got the cassette of the Chris Isaak from McDonald's on a promotion when the album/cassette first came out.
Great reaction Aileen loved what you had to say at the end of the reaction just remember that you are amazing person and you deserve to be happy no matter what you want to do in your life ❤️🫶
Good morning Aileen 😊 I am enjoying your reaction to Chris Isaak right now and have paused where you have, before the second verse, to compose this message for you. First of all, always know that we love you very much. Second of all, this is so pleasing to hear him on your channel knowing that you are a lover of all kinds of music and talent is not limited to any particular genre. Thirdly, it is such an endearing quality that you have to share what the music and lyrics mean to you and at the same time share a bit of yourself. This makes you human and real and we love this so much for taking the time. And, lastly, to answer your question about the official video of this song... Yes that would be wonderful and I will enjoy it so very much. Always know that we support you in all the adventures that lie before you for they will be wonderful and indescribable. Have a great day you and Arya with much love 😊👍💪❤️
Chris Isaak has been one of my favourite artists for the longest time. His song “You owe me some kind of love” was my go to song after a breakup (many many years ago)
You gotta watch the video. The produced version is better imo and the video is top 5 all time. Not familiar with everything you have watched but two artists that sadly are not as popular as they should be with reaction channels would be Jeff Buckley and Fiona Apple off the top. Both incredible writers and Buckley was a true savant.
The Official Video. It is the way to go. His Voice reaches your soul. I think the Official Video is also slightly slower. It`s in no Hurry. I like that. Great Reaction as always. You always speak from your Heart. Keep posting.
Chris is a king of heartbreak songs. This one is known for being so hypnotic, puts you in a trance, mainly because of the guitar in it's reverb and his soft singing. Check out the song "Forever Blue" which is the title song of a great album.
Great song! Go for the longer recorded version of this song too. If you're not familiar with Chris Isaak's music here are some other good tunes: 1) Lie To Me (Some people think this is his best song which has great falsetto vocals at the end). 2) Blue Hotel 3) Somebody's Crying 4) Fade Away 5) Go Walking Down There 6) Graduation Day 7) Blue Spanish Sky 8) Funeral In The Rain (Nice sad song!). Enjoy!
Song makes my soul weep. I don't feel the hope, I feel the approaching unavoidable abandonment. It's a great song that harmonizes with a feeling that lies deep normally.
Love this song! The original by Chris Isaak is so smooth and his voice is lovely. Taras Stanin does such an outstanding cover of Wicked Game in his live streams and has a great short video of it on his Instagram. 🥰
I always did love this song... and this version from him too. As you put it, calming yet not sad... just a chill feel. Now, one song I'd like you to react to is "St. James Infirmary" done by Dee Dee Bridgewater. This lady from New Orleans is a queen who takes control of the stage... she is so sassy, in a good way! Amazing vocalizing of instruments she does. You have to experience her, please....
Aileen, your reaction really nailed the essence of this song. I'm not generally a fan of Country music (and I believe this song qualifies), but the Hawaiian/Asian-Pacific flavor of the instrumentals makes this one special. This is one of the few occasions where I feel the Official Video offers a superior version, with more depth of emotion. I've found that it really twists the guts and fills the tear ducts. I was going to mention the Tenacious D cover to you, but you got there ahead of me. It's not really worthy of its own reaction, but it's definitely worth a listen, if only for a giggle and the alternative perspective.
I've never seen a live version of this song. A Gen-X metalhead has a history with this song. That history had a name like a promise. She had eyes like ice on fire. She left me three decades ago. She made the right decision. You get to a point where, ironically, you don't want to give Chris Isaak a chance to disappoint you, to crush that dreamy nostalgia by being a guy singing a song, and not the noir detective that takes over the narration in your head when she crosses your mind, or this song comes on. I took a chance here with you, Aileen. It went well. I'm glad. And grateful.
I was just a teen when this song and the video came out. Those raging hormones, budding conceptions of love, this song...crazy times. But good times! 🤘 Thx for the reaction.
Hi Aileen, I have seen Chris & the band many times and even once met all the guys on one show also joked around with Chris, Drummer Kenny, Guitarist Hershal and Bassist Rowland & the guys. If you want to see most of the guys you can look at The Chris Isaak Show on UA-cam and they have many episodes from the 1990s through 2000s
As much as I love reactions to live performances, this music video is a MUST WATCH. The way it was shot in black and white is very iconic. Please watch it

Those were his two fav artists :)
I love the official video, especially as it has the beautiful Helena Christiansen in it. Brilliant version of this song. Great reaction too.
They actually hated each other during the filming of the video lol.
Her name is Helena Christensen!
She and Norman Reedus had a son together, so maybe she did break Chris' heart lol.

Great romantic song. Fun reaction and review… BTW when your enjoying the music and the smile you manifest is heart melting 👊🏻
It was a big hit in the late 80's, early 90's!!! I love it!!!
Must have listened to this video 1000 times, this live performance is top draw sounds great on a high end home cinema system.
this is such a beautiful song always enjoyed your videos love it
This is such a great song,
If I remember correctly, my wife and I got the cassette of the Chris Isaak from McDonald's on a promotion when the album/cassette first came out.
This was such a big hit back in the day. Even if you don't do it for the channel you should watch the official video. It is so good.
Simply amazing! Such a sensual song! Chris Isaak's voice and that guitar tone! Wow!❤❤❤
Had this on a date-night cassette mixtape back in my days of glory, haha
If you're not familiar with Chris Isaak's music here are some other good tunes:
1) Lie To Me (Some people think this is his best song which has great falsetto vocals at the end). 2) Blue Hotel 3) Somebody's Crying 4) Fade Away
5) Go Walking Down There 6) Graduation Day 7) Blue Spanish Sky 8) Funeral In The Rain (Nice sad song!). Enjoy!
Every time I listen to this song, tears stream down my cheek; yet, it is calming and reassuring in a cathartic kind of way!
Love this song!! The melody is so soothing. Thanks
I love Chris Isaak, and his converts are SO MUCH FUN! Check out his song Baby Did A Bad Bad Things.
This song is so beautiful and his voice is smoother than silk
One of my favorites ❤🎉 Chris is amazing.
Can tell you've been through a lot Aileen, sending you hugs from the uk😊
It’s a brilliant viewing for musicianship as well. No one’s trying to out-do each other or whatever. They’re doing what the song needs.
Love your videos!
This is one of those songs that is just so good in the writing and execution that everybody likes it, even if it is way out of their normal genre.
Yes, the official video is haunting! I recommend it highly!!
You’re fantastic! Great reaction! ❤
check out HIM"s cover of this song
That is f*cking awesome!
His voice is smooth like midnight blue velvet, love the reaction!
Beautiful song GREAT VOICE......
You should check out the official music video! Sooo sexy!!!
True classic! Wonderful songwriting, great musicians. And nice reaction : )
As much as I love reactions to live performances, this music video is a MUST WATCH. The way it was shot in black and white is very iconic. Please watch it
I have being listening to this song for years, but I didn’t understand it, thank you for your interpretation
YOU GOTTA WATCH THE OFFICIAL VIDEO! IT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITES!❤
