I have been a centrist minded person ever since I got out of highschool, however I have only EVER been attacked by the left for speaking my mind Otaku.
The right doesn't care about personal opinions or censorship. The left does. You say "oh the right attacks people on the center too"'- when?
When has the right attacked centrists for being themselves? "You mean the right wing extremists right?"
Because liberty and classical libertarianism is key fundamental western values. Something again the left today does not share. All I hear is grifting and fence sitting 1:35.
Our progress to hell is paved with tons of good intentions, good hearts, but stupid minds.

@@thejoyfullad970 Okay I grant your position is valid however very specific.
I believe that Conservatives and "the right" does not fully constitute religious values. However they do uphold a certain strictness on behavior. You can be gay and conservative. Just don't flaunt it- or make it your identity.
Way too often these children get caught up exactly in what these people fear- would happen to their children. It's a slippery slope, and honestly I used to believe the slippery slope was just a fallacy. Here we are however....
I put it up to a percentage of self proclaimed right wingers to also be the types to demean and dehumanize homosexuality.
Most of what you hear on the web is in comedic taste however close to home for some people's moral beliefs.
I however believe in the public space, that being gay- and being flaming are what separates the accepted from the unacceptable. There should be no "pride" in anything. Whether gender/race/ or sexual preference. It's obscene and virtually pointless advocacy for the sake of faceless agendas and corporate PR backing.

@@SaturnineXTS - Post-modernism is nothing more than the rejection of both modernist and classical aesthetics. In terms of architecture, a modernist would create an ugly building without ornamentation, that is built to do a very specific job. A classicist would want their office building to look like a Gothic Cathedral, and call upon the deep and rich heritage of their ancestors to breathe life into what is effectively an office building. A post-modernist would reject both of those, and instead create a skyscraper that looks like an abstract shape, which makes the office plan very awkward. A post-modernist doesn't call on tradition and ornamentation, but they also reject the functionalist approach of a modernist worldview.

The infinite game scenario is what makes Socialism so appealing to idealists and those who never grow up.
You are _ALWAYS_ the hero of the struggle. The underdog fighting an enemy that most can't even recognize, gifted with the secret knowledge of how to save the world against a powerful enemy who has fooled everyone else. When socialism fails or leads to horrible results it's because the enemy corrupted it, but YOU know the true path that will lead to a paradise where all will benefit and recognize you as their savior.
The struggle is so important that some may need to be sacrificed for the greater good (they unwittingly serve the enemy after all), and it takes a pure and righteous soul to make such a decision and it is not taken lightly.
Every socialist is basically "The One" in the Matrix.
[Is it any wonder, then why they eventually turn on each other? If they start to disagree, then they have been infected by the enemy and must be purged. Only The One can know the truth]

@@ugandanknuckles3900 Every collectivist does this, regardless of if they're on the left or the right, it's just the nature of collectivism so that they all eventually look kind of the same more or less. The specific details of who they hate and will be willing to genocide changes, but the nature of their hatred and genocidal tendencies will always remain. There are definitely some of those on the right who are also collectivists, who have the same behaviours as the left, and I've known a few of them. Once they get into the mindset of viewing people only as collective groups, there's not really much reasoning left to be had with them, and they'll divorce themselves from anything remotely related to logic or evidence. Some I've known have gone fully with everything comes from god, others have gone full white-supremacist, others still have decided that anything to do with logic is something only 'libtards' do. So... yeah, some people on the right do, in fact, do this as well, where they'll cancel someone using the same techniques the progressives do, even against their own people in their own purity spiral, because it's the nature of collectivism to its very core.
Individualists on the left and right? They have no problems getting along. They may disagree on specific details about how best to handle certain problems, but they don't do any of this because it doesn't work within the framework to do it.

Except we are not talking about tools, not a simple good/evil dichotomy. We are talking about the results of a specific attitude, which may have been developed by her more exclusionary tendencies. Like the saying goes "a texan with a hammer sees everything as a nail" and it reflects on how that supposed "tool" was used.
She simply did include many acusations which paint many people who simply do not fall in such a dichotomy in the camp of the "alt-right" to the point on advocating on pretty extreme far left positions like assaulting those suspected of being nazis, for relative innocous behavior like sharing memes common in places like 4chan.
She took the lack of regulation of ideas to mean the embrace of her opossitions ideas. She considered sharing pepe the frog memes to be a tell tale sing of white supremacy, unaware that such language and behavior is not exclusive to white supremacist. It´s the equivalent of suspecting someone of being a Nazi for advocating for veganims "Just like hittler".
And then the very same mob that validated her arguments turned against her the moment she expressed anything but faith in "the cause". That´s the toll of radicalization.

@Bob Builder Truth. On reddit (stopped using it since) I made a comment about how controlled immigration would be great for the economy and helping get more people in skilled jobs with corona pushing so many out of work.
Immediately jumped on by lefties with "Why controlled? You want to limit the number of non-whites, huh?" "Are you implying you'd turn away people with low skills, when it's americas fault they don't in the first place?" "Good for a capitalist economy? That's NOT a good thing."
Like, holy shit. Controlled immigration is about as neutral as I can think of, it's not open borders left, it's not a solid wall right, but because I wasn't suggesting the left alternative, they were acting like I suggested to simply shoot immigrants on arrival.
I feel SFO might be missing that while the push from the left might not physically move someone further right, it makes them feel like their opinions are further right, making them more likely to vote that way even if they're actually more neutral. Eg, getting called a right-wing racist for wanting controlled immigration won't turn me into a republican protestor, but it will make me think "I guess controlled immigration is a republican thing" and be more likely to vote that way. It's like placebo. You're not actually that far right-wing, but you're constantly told your opinions are that of the right wing, and therefore will identify with them more than the other side who are actively pushing you away.

It's a neat little trick by which progressives have nested a complaint (not a critique, but a complaint) against liberalism in a race complaint. What immediately struck me about the Smithsonian's Whiteness chart or DiAngelo's 4 Pillars of Whiteness is that they're VALUE SYSTEMS... Individualism, universalism, objectivity, meritocracy. So one should be debating the values, yeah? Is individualism good or bad? What are the benefits, challenges, and limitations of empiricism or rationalism? What is the SWOT analysis on the Protestant work ethic? Etc. and so forth. But they're not...
They're not debating whether these are good or bad, but whether they are "white" or "Black." And to what end? With the implicit understanding that "white" is colonialist, imperialist, and inherently racist. In other words, "white" is bad. That Smithsonian chart read like an ad for Whiteness because nothing they itemized was actually bad, while they neglected to itemize anything that actually was bad (for example, they left off "being racist" as a part of Whiteness, and in fact, racism as traditionally defined is logically incoherent with Whiteness as they defined it, since you can't be individualist, universalist, objective, meritocratic AND discriminate against people because of their skin colour). You were just supposed to understand implicitly that white=bad. Rather than debate the values ala carte, they're debating the RACE. And you'd think that a discussion about whether a RACE is good or bad would be totally beyond the pale. That sorta' shit went out with Hitler for fuck's sake. But...
But you redefine racism to mean something other than racism, and that an anti-white position is anti-racist BY DEFINITION. "You can't be racist to white people." Then you play a little shell game where race is actually ideological rather than genetic (hence why a non-conforming Black person can be "white") and play around with that if you ever get criticized. So they are debating the values and not debating the race until they are debating the race and not debating the values. As long as they can keep you on your toes in an ever shifting hustle, you'll never have the opportunity to really have the debate the needs to happen: individualism, universalism, objectivity, and meritocracy are GOOD. They are measurably, demonstrably better ways of organizing a healthy, functional, peaceful society. Bu... bu... but...
But you're saying that whiteness is good! That's white supremacy! It's okay to be white but it's not okay to SAY it's okay to be white! Them saying whiteness is bad is not racism by definition, but saying that the values they've ascribed to whiteness are good IS racism. So yeah, you're not ALLOWED to argue in favour of those values, because to do so is white supremacy.
It's a tricky little game to circumvent having to actually debate against a demonstrably good system of values.
However, there may be an out, which is to reframe what they mean. The opposite of Whiteness is NOT Blackness. Nor is it Brownness or Asianness or Indigeneity. The opposite of Whiteness is Wokeness. Once you understand and articulate that, then you might make some headway. That and the fact that by their own definitions it is impossible to be ideologically white and racist.

I mean, I have been seeing this since as far back as the 2000s, when the "Christian vs Atheist" debate was all the rage. As a Christian, I felt that both sides were quite intolerant of each other and weren't at all interested in actually finding any truth, but rather, beating the other side. However I noticed that, curiously, the people championing Atheism always talked about how "open minded" they were, and how the Christians were "unable to accept new ideas".
Nearly every person who said something like this would end up ridiculing me before I even said anything about my views; all they needed to hear was that I was a Christian, and that was enough for them to know everything about what I believed, and why it was wrong. What they really mean when they say "open minded" is "anti-traditional", because they are almost never interested at all in opening their minds to the merits of traditional values and belief systems. So yes, even before this woke apocalypse came upon us, the left has been that way for quite a long time. Like Otaku said, it is an intrinsic part of extremism to some degree, not just some unfortunate mutation or side-effect. This ALWAYS happens more, the further left you go from center. Not one. It’s like trying to continue on a toxic relationship at this point..

There is no such thing as “white culture “. In the US there is the amalgamation of many different ethnicities, yes majority European, but is no means limited to them. The US is a hybridization of hundreds of different unique cultural identities which make up the whole. The binding quality amongst us all is that we’re Americans and I would stand up for and protect my fellow Americans in a way in which I wouldn’t Europeans. I would argue that the “our diversity is our strength “ crowd, in their most zealous representation, loath the United States as well as any associations they might have with it. • @hagoryopi2101
      @hagoryopi2101 2 роки тому +13

When the minimum wage gets hiked, corporations have two options: cut costs or raise prices. Most corporations don't choose the former in response to these hikes because the employees were hired to serve a purpose that still needs to be served, and because the PR fallout from conveniently firing workers in proportion to these hikes would be catastrophic. But raising prices slightly, especially with inflation as an excuse, is much harder to whip the public into a frenzy over. So they tend to choose the latter.
The consequence is that inflation necessarily occurs in proportion to minimum wage increases, since it takes more money than before to buy the same amount. This consequently taxes the income of everybody who earns anything over minimum wage, and the savings of those who are actually responsible with money. It keeps the poor placated, kills the spirits of anybody in the middle class who has to worry about a budget that just got a little tighter, and leaves the rich barely affected and better insulated against any rising competition. Ironically, leftist policy encourages the very wealth inequality they criticize. No wonder they're the party of the ultra-poor and ultra-rich.

There is also though the idea of when the worker gets too expensive, you increase the machines you use. Which unless people move into the manufacturing and maintenance of those machines people will be out of work due to the switch. But worse of all, unless the business does under the table, it makes it illegal to work unless you can find a place that is willing to pay you "x". So instead of a company hiring someone to mop their floors for them for $5/hr, they may cut that dude out of the equation and just get the other employees to squeeze time to mop. Funny to see Andre Lorde referenced here, I have to read that exact essay of hers next week. Not entirely sure what I think about her yet from what we have read. (Probably about to turn into a rant, I haven't had anyone to properly vent my thoughts to)
What I have read of hers so far is a speech she gave in 1977. "The transformation of silence into language and action". Most of it is so-so, she talks about a health scare where she was afraid she had breast cancer, she talks a bit about kwanza, a bit about being an out lesbian woman in the 70s (which I gotta say in most circles was a faaar braver thing then than now, but still the similariity of the language used to talk about it then and now got an instinctual eye roll or two from me). What I really liked though, was the ending. It was also depressing, in a "how have we ended up back here?" way.
She says if she had been born mute, she still would have sufferred and eventually died, so what new kind of pain could possibly come from speaking? And then, "That we not hide behind the mockeries of separations that have been imposed on us and which so often we accept as our own. For instance, 'I can't possibly teach black women's writing - their experience is so different from mine.' Yet how many years have you spent teaching Plato and Shakespeare and Proust? Or another, 'She's a white woman, what could she possibly have to say to me?' ... 'she's a lesbian, what would my husband say, or my chairman?'... 'This woman writes of her sons and I have no children.' And all the other endless ways in which we rob ourselves of ourselves and each other."
And you know what my professor got out of that? That it was good teachers and professors had made progress by "decolonizing their reading material." I've seen people miss the forest for the trees, but this guy missed the ocean for a fucking shrimp. The books weren't the point! The point was that we can't think of other people, no matter the differences, as so different we could never understand them, could never empathize with them. That our separations don't come from our differences, "for it is not difference which immobilizes us, but silence."
Another interesting point she made right at the end, second to last paragraph is "For we have been socialized to respect fear more than our own needs for language and definitio, and while we wait in silence for that final luxury of fearlessness, the wait of that silence will choke us."
Personally I think when the words of a feminist from the 70s feel so applicable to our issues right now, we're fucked. 40 years of progress stolen away.

The initial meme works if you realize that the figures less represent people than positions, or maybe both simultaneously. It doesn't make sense to complain that White has agency if enacting agency to "ally" with Blue means the same things as changing his actual philosophical/political/whatever stance. Even just in the cartoon, he obviously hasn't joined Red in a meaningful sense, his position has just been recategorized as Red by Blue, who then wonders why that person (whose position didn't actually change) changed positions, when it was Blue's doing in the first place by moving the line. Obviously I'm over-explaining this.
Blue is currently the left most 8% of people (probably less by now) and everyone not in that ever-shrinking category is a far right supremacist yahtzee so-and-so.
You mentioned people doing this on the right, and that's definitely true too. Everyone who disagrees with some certain list of standard conservative talking points (whose content and number vary by person) is obviously a Librul (by which they actually mean Far Leftist), which may include anywhere from 50% to 90% of the population, without any distinction. I've definitely been called or construed as both by people on the extremes. I'm not exactly centrist, but I am somewhat heterodox.
I got in an argument on some youtube thread the other day with, presumably, a conservative, and somewhere I made a distinction between liberals and leftists, and he berated me for the no-true-scotsman fallacy, demonstrating a complete inability to distinguish diametrically opposing views simply because they were both not his.

That said I have seen a right wing purity spiral happen earlier this month and it was pretty nasty, Dev was somewhat involved too. The frustrating part is that the radical elements of the right that do that shit are being empowered by how batshit crazy the left has been acting and so the best way to stop such things from happening in the future would still be to just go HAAAM after the radical left to starve the radical right, instead of doing the both sidesism.

The problem is that taking away the agitators for the hyper right wing types doesn't remove the agitated population who will then go on to do a bunch of stupid ass right wing things that empowers the left, and lo and behold we've made the political pendulum. Napoleon did that to the French Revolution, he ended the Revolution the hard way right before cock-blocking anyone else from taking his power by naming himself regent, and even then Napoleon wasn't exactly the best ruler in the world.
You need to de-fang those hyper-right wingers before we get to our happy middle between the Stalinist tankies and the Hitler Youth wannabes. Otherwise we fail to brake and just palate swap our current problems. Just as a quick set of things I've seen, we're never going to make gay marriage illegal again, being trans has entered the conversation and people who have healthily transitioned do exist and seem better for it, so that can't be gotten rid of (though the bar for when it's deemed medically advisable can be raised), and the kind of McCarthy style inquisitions some people want are never going to happen without them purity spiralling and fueling the communists they hunted. I've spoken with a few and from what I can gather a lot don't even care about nor want the more extreme return to tradition stuff they just want the cult of woke gone and they're losing faith in a more liberty minded solution partly because of the incessant both sidesism and partly just due to the chronic lack of results, if they had the infinity gauntlet or some other kind of wish granting macguffin they'd take a libertarian esque solution they just don't really beleive it's possible in reality, ergo proving it is indeed possible by destroying the cult of woke should be all it takes for them to chill out.

@@GodOfOrphans I've known several pretty radical righties. They won't chill until the US is back in the 50's in the worst way possible. The fact gay marriage is even entertained will get them purity spiraling, let alone any of the other concessions in that sweet spot of 60's-80's where a lot of activism had a genuine nugget of point even if it went off the rails from the 90's on. We're never going to go back to the 1950's, and that fact will cause problems later if we don't nip it in the bud before the left's ousted. Give an inch take a mile applies to anyone who gets that taste of power, and most of those ex-pats don't know a lick of political strategy and have ADHD levels of patience. I don't like mincing words about the enemy at my back after all, and the people giving up are being good little lefties by doing what the Dems want them to do. If this sounds like an insult to them, that's because it is. Manchurian candidates should be insulted, doubly so if there wasn't even a complex spy game to turn them into subversives. I know that's not everyone, but I've chased a few people who say they just want libertarianism down into toxic rabbit holes. Dev gave a similar thing for the communists where you go, "And then what?" until you get the tankie out of them, I've seen enough of that in right-leaning people for me to be concerned and why the both-sides pleading is necessary. If they claim sitting on the fence is hard, let it be known this fence is wrought iron and a metal stake up the ass is not comfortable in the slightest.
That being said... I am a fervent advocate of the white pill because a lot of people are shortsighted, even some commentators with legitimately wise insights, and ascribe way too much influence to the woke left. This isn't even far, if you want far you need to go back to the 1930's. FDR got away with shit modern lefties would cream their pants over. He got closer to a federally mandated $15 minimum wage than anyone alive today, and I do mean that in 1930's money. It was either that or employer funded insurance. You want a study in actual American fascism and totalitarianism, study the details of FDR. Biden could never get away with shovelling 2 extra SCOTUS justices on the court, FDR almost got 7. The left is very very loud but just don't have the tour-de-force ability to act on it like FDR did. People loved FDR even as he stole every last penny of their savings and turned a routine dip in the economy aggravated by Hoover into a depression we now capitalize as Great. The left pales in comparison because just about everything they do reeks of overreach and these incessant purity spirals are evidence of the rotten foundations of the left. (Though yes, this implies there is a foundation in there somewhere. Analogies only work so far.) I didn't weep much over Trump losing the election (honk honk) because I knew pretty soon afterwards that the left had nowhere to go. All they could do was prematurely blow their legislative loads without any mandate to achieve them, piss off everyone, and kick off a political reformation at the lower levels of politics, which is where the effort is really needed at this point. We're the Vietcong, we're the ones running asymmetrical warfare, and people do need to be reminded that we don't win the war with a total count of victories, our proper strategy is just to take the last victory as the left can fight no more and fade away organically.

The purity spiral reminds me of a type of proof I was taught a good while ago. I believe it's inductive proof, but don't quote me on the name. At a high level, the proof works by assuming something is true for n, and proving that if that's the case, n+1 is also true. Therefore it's true for every value since you can just change n to be n+1, making n+1 into (n+1)+1, infinitely. They've accepted an assumption that more leftism is always good, therefore if we were to measure how left someone is as a number, for any n, n+1 is better. A purity spiral is the only possible result. It's valid reasoning, but obviously not sound.
The Master's tools thing also stood out to me. It sounds exactly like Nietzsche's idea of the two kinds of morality: master morality and slave morality. Where master morality says "This is me, these are my values, these are what are good.", slave morality subordinates itself by looking at another morality and saying "That person(s) is evil, their values are evil, and what's not that is good." Seems exactly like the leftist arguments against any Western values, primarily liberalism, which they label "whiteness".
