Imagine this: Imagine if she, The protagonist, who acted like a POS the entire time, got into the realisation when she got betrayed by his only friend that she may need to change her actitude and be more empathic to people. Imagine if she in the middle of the game after that point she goes into this cool redemption arc in which she sees the errors of her ways and starts to use the brand new world around her to be a truly new, good person, building a relation with not only the people of Athia but with the entire new world, with the idea of, once everything bad is over, she can use this magic opportunity to be a new good person in a world that actually welcomes her, and would welcome her even more by saving them from a horrible character... Nah
In all fairness when the people of the world just yell "shut up shut up shut up!" and "you're so self-absorbed, you won't save the world!" the average person isn't going to go "well shit, I was betrayed, have I been doing wrong?" They'll usually be thinking "I was betrayed by the only one by my side, I have nothing left." Somehow this game went for neither. She essentially raised a demon, and what do they do? the best part of that hour of exposition cutscenes and this entire game is we never see neither hide nor hair of Faye's biological father, he just gets completely swept under the rug.
The writers clearly didn't consider how terrible her "heroic" motivation is. It's like seeing someone from a primarily white suburb go, "Well, originally, I wouldn't care about you people and I'd let your neighborhood get unjustly torn down, but now that I realized I'm part-black and my mom's from here, I guess I'll help you out." No, lady, you're not a hero, you're still making everything about YOU.
While I agree that her motivation is selfish... why does it matter? It's not like she claimed to be a hero and as long as she does the thing the people won't care. If she somehow pretended to be a moral templar who does only do the right things, but her motivation was this selfish then it would be hypocritical, but protagonists don't have to be heroic.
@@Schnort I'm not surprised, it's not like Frey is well written. I only find this judgemental point about her being selfish weird, as if people are pointing out some hypocrisy. That simply doesn't exist.
@@yoursonisold8743 Problem is that the game wants us to think she is a hero. Yk like Rey Palpatine. It just leaves bad taste in mouth when basically naziss sit there and try to preach to you that they are good people.
@@yoursonisold8743 the problem is that Frey's reactions aren't relatable even if we look at them from the "selfish" angle. It's OK to have a character with selfish motivations when we understand them and can't find it in ourselves to judge them because we can relate. For instance, Frey was only doing all those heroic deeds to get home -- understandable. Then Frey loses her chances to go home, literally saying to Auden that she doesn't care if Athia gets destroyed because she, Frey, didn't grow up there, it wasn't her community (even though you might think she should have known all those people better and warmed up to them though daily interactions, it's human nature) But THEN she learns that she was born in Athia and her mom is still there -- and suddenly it changes everything, even though Frey still didn't grow in the Athian community and her mom basically yeeted her into the portal to Earth, leaving her to fend for herself. So, Frey doesn't care about the Athian folk who grew to appreciate her and care for her because she stepped up to Tantas, she doesn't care that Auden supported her all this time (while knowing about her selfish motivations and agreeing to them). But then one talk with her mom (who basically abandoned her) is enough for Frey to throw hands with a powerful demon instead of going home. I get the idea that this revelation gave Frey the reason to believe she still has home in Athia, she always belonged there -- and yet, Tanta Cinta hasn't been around most of the time, while Auden and the rest were. IMHO, the better way to write Frey's selfishness would be to play off her orphan background and reveal her relation to Athia super early -- giving Frey the motivation to fight other Tantas and be the local hero, only so she could meet her mom and find out why she left her. We can also get behind that motivation: a child longing to see the parent she never knew, get answers we all want to know, and maybe, make some new, happier memories. But when Frey doesn't find Cinta or sees her briefly, only for Cinta to evade her (mostly because she recognizes Sussurus and doesn't approach, so he won't hurt Frey or make them attack each other). As a result, Frey grows disappointed and angry, no longer willing to stay in the world that never wanted her. Why should she care for Athia if her own mother threw her out and now doesn't even wish to look at her? Not only would that explain Frey's hurtful speech, but it would also be the speech we would empathize with.
I can’t get over the “Gotta find homer first” Like couldn’t they really not just hid it and make it like she forgot. Instead of being fundamentally stupid for the sake of being stupid

There is multiple problems with this scene one is writing, the other one is the ability for player to interact with the bag, but not being able to pick it up. The problem with the writing in many titles is that writers seems not to understand a simple principle “writing should be believable in the world(s) the game/movie/book takes place”. Sure there will be smaller mistakes here and there but they might be forgiven. A person in NYC, being in a abandoned building with a bag full of cash next to their leg would grab the bag look for a cat put it in the bag run away. This is believable imo. Alternatively she grabs a bag but have problems to find the cat, the little critter is hiding let’s say below a table, so she needs to drop the bag to grab the cat and by the time she is done fire already spread so she need to save herself (and the cat). I believe this is believable. The problem is that while “I can do shit with my mind” line I could somewhat accept, how she acts when she gets to another world also gives a strong impression of this character does not act in believable way (due to how it was written) which creates further problems with this game reception.

The comedic timing was perfect.

I can say one thing about Forspoken: It's made me appreciate Elden Ring even more. The protagonist doesn't natter on constantly, the game doesn't drown you in cutscenes, the world is actually fun and interesting to explore, and combat is more varied than just "fling rocks at fantasy monsters".

I agree. The character designer for Frey's main outfit kinda outdid themselves, really. When she was talking to the kids who wanted the photos, I suddenly realized that she's still wearing her flannel shirt, only now it's around her waist. I enjoy little details like that; they could have just given her a regular medieval type outfit that blended in better with the setting, but they didn't, which actually makes a lot of sense, given that her main motivation for the majority of the game is to get back home, so her refusing to get rid of some of the only links she has to place she's trying to return to feels in line with that motivation

This is using future knowledge of where her power comes from. If they can just negate her magic, they should be doing VERY well against the evil corruption shit. So if they CLEARLY cannot negate her powers, why is she acting like her powers just randomly stopped working? Any being strong enough in the area to nullify her powers, would just kill her. Imagine if she, The protagonist, who acted like a POS the entire time, got into the realisation when she got betrayed by his only friend that she may need to change her actitude and be more empathic to people.
Nah

@@spritsfal5088 😂
Well she is Black. It would be unrealistic for her to have a Father.
The writers clearly didn't consider how terrible her "heroic" motivation is.
It's like seeing someone from a primarily white suburb go, "Well, originally, I wouldn't care about you people and I'd let your neighborhood get unjustly torn down, but now that I realized I'm part-black and my mom's from here, I guess I'll help you out."
No, lady, you're not a hero, you're still making everything about YOU.
@@yoursonisold8743maybe because we are already annoyed at her the whole game
Then Frey loses her chances to go home, literally saying to Auden that she doesn't care if Athia gets destroyed because she, Frey, didn't grow up there, it wasn't her community (even though you might think she should have known all those people better and warmed up to them though daily interactions, it's human nature)
But THEN she learns that she was born in Athia and her mom is still there -- and suddenly it changes everything, even though Frey still didn't grow in the Athian community and her mom basically yeeted her into the portal to Earth, leaving her to fend for herself.
I can’t get over the “Gotta find homer first”
Like couldn’t they really not just hid it and make it like she forgot. Instead of being fundamentally stupid for the sake of being stupid
or just have it not matter she's isekai'd 5 minutes later anyway so the money is literaly pointless

@@MegaMetalliDethica or heck, take the bag, put the cat in the bag. Now you can hold both things more easily. And you can't tell me it would panic, shuffle around or anything. That cat was standing in a literal apartment on fire and it seemed like it had no thoughts in that head

Sure, eventually military intervention will put the villain down, but the mere existence of magic is going to change the world... assuming those in power in that world don't already know and have something prepared, however limited or imperfect.
Worst thing about this whole game is that it looks like it could have been a decent game at the very least if it was developed by a more competent team.
From what I heard, even the team hated working on the game.
@@DiranJiru and then the entire studio literally died shortly after this game came out
Did i just Forspoken? I did not just Forspoken. I just Forspoken with my mind. I just Forspoken... with my mind. I just Forspoken. With my freaking mind! Ha ha! Yeah, okay, that's something i do now. I do the word "for", talk to sentient creatures that speak, kill jacked-up people who were spoken for--you know what? I'll probably be Forspoken next. Oh, that's too far? Good to know there's a line.
I probably show more emotion than than the main character's in-combat voice lines when I drink tea that's a slight bit too hot.
Ah, yes, the strong female character development arc popular among almost all modern entertainment: She's already the best and just has to make everyone realize that.
Critical Drinker would have a field day with this
@@jacksonconstantine5740 Funny you should mention that.... He just released a video about it!

Can’t accept reality so they have to make games about their alternative reality 😂
They made the game for specific peoples that don’t normally play video games to feel like they can
Who? Lol
The canned laughter DLC really elevates the game.
Feels like the story was written by a teen on a 10$ budget.
One of the two writers was a man in his fifties.
@@JDoe-gf5oznah, I refuse to believe that.
@@uzacki It was the actor who played the new Captain in Picard season 3. I believe it's his only writing credit.
a teen who is into writing could probably make a better damn story.
Nope, just millennials again...
I find the character models in this game so uncanny like they all look like heavily modded Sims 4 characters
Kudos and like for a great comment.
Hard mode, 5 bosses, 10k hp each, you do 7 dmg per hit. SEVEN. They one shot you. 2 shot max.
Normal mode you do 180-240 per hit, boss has half hp and no defense. They can be cc'd indefinitely.
This game is perfectly balanced.
The added live studio audience laughter and applause after her dry uncomedic lines were funny as hell Lol
How did those people arrest her?
She can fucking run up walls but she can't break out of a piece of wood? She let them restrain her in the first place! They're like "It's a monster! OH! The monster speaks!"
In spite of her looking CLEARLY human, unusual clothing aside. She's CLEARLY A HUMAN, so they can ONLY think she's some monster due to her powers. If her powers are something people don't have, they won't have any way to just turn them off. They literally cannot take cuff away, so they have NO MEANS OF DEPOWERING HER! Ok? If they COULD, they would erase her powers and keep her UNDER GUARD, and also just depower all the monsters and be safe. If they can restrain HER powers, they are golden.
We know the main enemies of the game, the tantas, CANNOT just nope her powers, otherwise the boss fights would be very short, so why the fuck is she pretending she doesn't have super powers because they pointed sharp sticks at her!?
SHE HAD A FUCKING GUN POINTED AT HER AND SHE DID MORE! SOMEONE POINTS A GUN AT HER AND SHE THROWS SHIT IN HER EYE, ATTACKS THE ARMED ASSAILANTS AND THEN PAUSES IN HER ESCAPE TO FLIP THEM OFF!
SOMEONE POINTS A STICK AT HER AFTER SHE GETS MAGIC POWERS, AND SHE IS HELPLESS TO RESIST THEM!
THIS GAME IS TRASH!
NOT TO MENTION these people lived with the Tantas before they all went mad, and the Tantas all have fucking magic powers (they're quite literally sorcerer-queens) so WHY would they call her a monster for possessing magical abilities when it's common knowledge it is possible for people to possess them. Like bffr
@@auliamate Yeah if anything they should probably be going "OH SHIT! ANOTHER TANTA! FUCK! SHE'LL KILL US ALL!"
And then run away, because WHY WOULD CUFFING HER WORK!?
I’m actually impressed that with the amount of constant talking, they manage to have awkward silences as well.
35:13 the automated captions are always amazing trying to make sense of fantasy names "Daughter of Santa, protector of Asia". now that would be an interesting character.
God damn...the sound design. WHY - Why is it combat music ALL THE TIME?! Did the devs really feel sleeping was THAT intense? Oh right, crunch stress (and yet, this was still released like this)
And the game feels so empty lol, there is barely any noise sometimes
I thought Sonic unleashed was bad with this. But this. THIS.
Considering how unlikable and selfish Frey is 90% of the game., plus she hates it there, the NY ending is the only one that make sense.
This is my second Kevduit video and I gotta say you made this game so enjoyable to watch. I'm sorry you had to suffer like this. The game is truly a master piece disaster! At least Homer was okay.
Found in dumpsters a month after release, took almost a year and closure announcement for Babylon's Fall to end up in trash bins.
The steelbook, not the game
yeah when he compared this garbage to Babylon's Fall, idk I kinda felt bad for Babylon's Fall lol
@@_zealos_8213 Have you even played the game, or are you just hating on it because that’s what everyone else is doing and you want to fit in?
@@Evanz111 dam bro, coming out swinging much? No I haven't played it. Because I do not want to. Because it doesn't look good from the videos Ive seen. Even if I were to give it the benefit of the doubt and say the combat is decent, I'd much rather just play Warframe or purchase PS Plus for Infamous:SS. And I sure as hell don't need the acceptance or recognition of any random shit head on the internet.
@@_zealos_8213 Comparing something you haven’t played and calling it garbage, to something else you also probably haven’t played. For someone who doesn’t care what people think, you seem to struggle to make up your own opinion about things. But okay.

35:44 - That's why Frey looked so familiar! Ella Balinska! The protagonist of Run Sweetheart Run!
"the replayablity is nonexistent" when you can watch a video and feel youve played the game then you know it's really bad lmao
When you watch a 15min video, and already feel like another nap.. 😂
I think the worst thing about this game that it's not broken or anything. It's just bland grey mush from start to end. Sure there's some pretty colors but you'd have more fun watching cement dry.
The dialogue in this game reminds me a lot of the way Stephen King writes of Robert Jordans Wheel of Time series. Those two will make you imagine 4 rows of 8 different people and in very vivid detail describe the last three in the back right for you and also include the coffee cup, where they got it from, and also what the wall looked like behind their mother during birth. It's like all this stuff with no relevancy
I gave up at the third boss. where you get to what the third boss is supposed to be and they're like "no she died from exhaustion. now run away from a bracelet"
We will forever remember your sacrice, Kev.
She's the MOST insufferable protagonist that I've ever seen in any video game.
She said more one liners than every marvel character combined- Pyrocynical
This game manages to make gollum look like a masterpiece
Gollum's story is superior, but the gameplay and art direction is worse....
And make atomic heart like a stanley kubrick movie
They should have made Frey be British like her voice actress is.I think her performance would have came off more natural and fit better into the middle ages style world she got transported to.
Then they would've had to set it in the UK. For some reason game developers are allergic to that
@@DS9TREKriggghhhhtttt. So that means a game with a black mc would have to take place in Africa 💀

This game is like the experience of drinking bleach without the satisfaction of dying shortly after.
Tanta Prav’s voice acting was like the best thing about this game lol
Love how even in the boss fights they force you to read instead of show you what to do
So basically the main character doesn't give two shits about the place in danger or the people until she finds out it's where she was born. Wow. Such a selfless hero.
