TIP : when mounting light strips to your vehicle, put a bead of clear silicone on each side of them, the whole length. The strip won't fall off later. I do lighting on pontoons and it's how I install them. Been doing it for over 10 years (probably close to 50 pontoons since) and I haven't had to redo any.
Silicone and the 3m tape?

Add the running light to the fog light that way you can pick to have it on or off and would be very helpful in fog. Good video
FYI If you want to get rid of the amber running lights while driving don’t connect the red wire. You could connect it to the reverse or put a switch on it so you have the option to turn it off. Hope this help.
You should seriously consider adding a rubber gromet to that wire that you put through the hole you drilled into your floor. Over time, that sharp edge of the metal will wear through the shielding of the wire leaving you with a grounded circuit.
I been running wires with no grommet for years and never had one fail from the plastic wearing through but this is in my cases.
@@rocxylemmon8535 did you put in a fuse anywhere? Had a neighbor do something like this under the car and it lasted for about a year until it shorted and set the whole care on fire.
Great video. Looks good. Personally I like the amber running board light on full time, but I do think the fog light tap suggestion was brilliant. That's the way I'm going to go.
Thanks for the wiring tips, I have the sequential turn signals. Think the will look even better! Going to try the install after watching your video! 👍🇺🇲
Great video! How much of the running board do they actually light up? Thinking of doing this on my power wagon to light up the running boards.
Thanks for the video. I purchased these lights a few months ago. between not having a lot of time and being unsure of the best way to install them, I've just been letting them sit in my garage. I was thinking about wiring them up to my puddle lights. I thought it might be easier, I don't know though.
I personally like the amber glow under the truck.
Could you hook up the running lights as hazard lights?
Probably not a good idea since the turn lights are tied to the hazard. It could burn out the chips that control the switching between flashing and steady on.
Good video but that white wire will give you problems later where you drilled a hole. With vibrations, it'll wear the wire insulation and short out on the frame. Go back and put some silicone on each side (inside and outside the truck) where the the hole is. That will minimize vibration.
Oops, just saw another comment saying the same thing.
Great vid. Not a lot of unnecessary talking about personal issues. I installed mine on a 2019 F250. Undecided about the amber running lights too, since I have rocklights illuminating underneath
Thanks! I ended up turning the amber lights off.
D Davis, I'm doing the same install on a 2017 SD. Can you give me any pointers on which wires and where to tap into.... particularly for the turn signals as I've heard problems related to LED flicker or full inop due to high voltage, low voltage, etc.
@@PhilipWahlbom ahh cool. I also had added the Redline Tailgate light bar and had to add the "module" so the bar would work using the 4 pin trailer plug. So i wired the running board lights the the module wiring. I hooked the door assist lights up to the prewired door assist that is located on the frame near the rear of the cab.
Good luck and hope this helps!
@@dexmtb You cheated then, LOL! That's too easy, but I'm sure it looks good! As I'm not using "The Module" I think I'm going to try and pull the turn & running 12V from the front headlights. I'm just hoping the .3 amp draw per LED strip doesn't confuse the BCM. I'll pull ground & courtesy 12v the same way you did, from the OEM running board actuator plug.
@@dexmtb Do you have a photo of this location? Prewired door assist ...
I would love to find out how to just have the white light come on when the door is unlocked or door is open to light up for those special black Ice moments. Would you just not hook up the other lights and it was hard to see how you actually connected them thanks though for the video something to think about. I'm not a fan of amber all the time
couldnt i run the coutsy lights for my running lights?
How can you leave them on while the truck is on?
I notice you didn't add a rissitor ,is it that the resistor is build in the circuit?
I don't know wiring very well. If you wired the orange light into your low beam it would only run when you either turn your headlights on or off they auto on at night right? Is there a way to run that wire to your high beams as well that way they stay on if you turn on your brights or would that cause your low and high beams to both be on at the same time?
Great job , I would cut the red also and what you did good stuff young man.
I would have ran the wire through the clutch block off plate on the firewall like i did for my aux fuel tank toggle. Doesnt look pretty under the hood, but no drilling.
As far as orange glow all time mount a switch to turn on and off if wanted. Just my thoughts.
I think those orange running lights are silly. Does the white light only come on when you open the door or do they also light up when you unlock the door using the key-fob?
Thanks much for the vid! Very helpful...Now I really want to get a set for my 1500. I too don't care for the constant amber glow. I'm honestly not sure whether it's even legal in Maryland to have a "constant glow, ground effect". That being said, Mr. Baldwin's idea of making them work with the hazard's, is awesome! Thanks again!
as long as its white or amber im in Maryland with white rock lights, never get pulled over
Nice video ❤
Different color running lights yeah... amber color only turn them off. Thanks for the video im looking to do the same now I know I don't have to have amber running lights but still courtesy and blinking lights
I like mine on. But i ran all my wires to my drivers side door under sill wiring harness. Easier that way, cleaner and plenty of space. I wont use those but connectors for any of my wiring. Maybe atleast go back and encase your but connector in Etape or cloth tape.
But looks good tho.
How did you pop out the light. And what color wire was it
Do you think it would be possible to wire the running light option from the strips into one like splicing wires together & tap into a fuse that has power to it whenever you turn on & off your key instead of hacking into the headlights? Also was thinking of doing the same thing for the white courtesy light option, splicing the wires together but run that option off of separate switch from in the cab like on an after market fuse panel & switch box I have. I feel like it would be possible
Will this work on a 21 rebel by chance I'm looking to do this because the boss lady asked when she almost bit it on the ice
Could the white light be attached to be the running light and the door light?
Great video. Could you post the link where I get those lights? I have a couple friends that we all want to do the same thing. Thanks
I hooked mine up almost the same way but I left the red wire off I did not want the orange on all the time I have a 2016 ram ,when the truck is not running the turn signal works fine when I turn the truck on one side works fine the other side doesn't work and my flasher in the truck is really fast .any suggestions?
Did you solve your other side don't work the other fast??
Is there a way you can show an actual representation of how the blue splicing with the wire actually work?
I’m assuming the right side is done the exact same way.
Yes sir. It’s the exact same.
@@HFConstruction do you splice the two white wires together and run the one line into the cab or do you tap into the passenger side cab light for the passenger side?
I wired my to the tail light taped into the negative and the runners and mine started to flickering please help what did I do wrong?
Did the ground wire get spliced to the wire harness as well?
How do they look at night? And how well have they stayed stuck just using the sticky tape?
Wait, when did you get that new truck? I think I missed that video, nice truck anyway
There no rubber to get acces into the can from under the truck?
Only the rubber garment from the back side fire wall under the hood
If youre an automatic truck theres a black clutch assembly block plate you can unbolt and remove. I did this for my fuel tank in the bed for a toggle and i had CB wires coming through. Cut a piece of blaco foam to fill the rest of the hole. Never had to drill into the truck.
There's a plastic access cover under the jack, under the passenger seat. I drilled a hole in that the sealed it.
Hook the Amber's up to a separate switch then.
So what about the right side? All wires get hooked up again, same process
This is my question too. The turn signals would be of course but do I go to the cab light with the white wire on each side? Guy said he only drilled one hole but is that because he only did one side or can I splice the two white wires together and then run one line into the cab light?
Leave the running lights
Installed my like this work great till you turn on the truck then the lights don’t work at all. As soon as you turn truck off they work with key on? Anyone had this issue? What did you do to fix it? 17 Ram 2500
Hello sir I did the same thing with mine that I bought and it has the same connections bud the blinkers both of them be blink at the same time so I don’t have left and right blinkers any suggestions
Did you connect both lights to the same blinker?
@@jonjon3206 no. One on each tail signal light
Are you having any issues with these flickering? I bought a set and had them professionally installed and one side flickers intermittently. If so, what did you do to fix it?
Did you solve that issue
@@rohanboswell5408 I did! Turns out the whole strip was just bad. Got a return and haven’t had an issue out of the new one!
@@johnparker1316 I ran these to my rear parking light tap the negative and then the runner light and they started flickering I don't think it's the light strip because both sides are doing it what could be the cause?
@@--emt did you figure out what was the case
@@TheJonapizz no ,was hoping someone would reply with a answer .
Turn off orange the other very cool brother
Anywhere in the cab to tap into the turn signal? I have the led headlights so I can’t pull the bulb out.
What year is your truck
Did you figure this out?
If you don't cover your splices they will corrode rather fast....shorts are fun.
I have them on my truck I would leave the running lights.
Leave it
Is the right side done the same?

I have a 2022 RAM 1500 Limited.. I have read pretty much all the comments. I'd like to make sure I do this the best way. I would rather run wires to the rear... But I can do front if I must. Can someone share the best way. BTW.. I have the rear tailgate OPT7 light installed with the Curt adapter #55384
Thank you,
If u wanna do a real proffesional job please make sure u put all wires in thr plastic protectore tubing and make sure u also use silocone atv on the strips to make sure they never fall off cause that 3m strip glue will eventually fail
I dind t oike you drill your truck , there are many fire ports with ruber cover that are ready to use and make a tiny hole after that add some sioiconw or glue
There's no way they hold up in a harsh winter.
Turn it off
Orange reminds me of a semi or industrial vehicle.
Buyer beware. My lasted less than a year. Customer service was just awful!
Might want to be careful, these are eligible in Michigan!
Did you say these are illegal in Michigan 🙄
@@watchmyshine3997 lol!... auto correct error i think.
I cant hear you over the music, if you dont mind loosing the music when you talk. I turn my speakers up and up and up and the music still over comes your voice.
Orange glow off
Any lights stuck on with anything will eventually fall off.
OPT7 uses some super glue. I had the sequential tail gate light that failed and they replaced it after a year. Was a Real Bitch to get it off. I actual bent the metal bracket of the light trying to get it off
theres a little rubber boot by the brake pedal, where the clutch would be. you couldve cut that for the door light. instead of drilling though the actual friggin body of your truck. good lord man
Maybe, someone could help me out? [I have worked with wires, radios and etc through my years, these are pretty simple.] "But", can't and don't understand having a issue.
Dodge Ram 2017 Quad Cab
I was going to run each light yellow signal wire to each headlight on the same side.
Which I did. Blacks were grounded to each inner fender under the hood, as there were screws grounding other items.
Red wires, (just to check) touched the positive on the battery worked, thumbs up.
Thought at first tapping into the auto front running lights, each on their own side, it should be working.
I'm not worried about the (White yet).
So plan changed, connected the yellows together, into one signal front light.
Blacks to ground.
[Just to check reds together touched battery, worked great.]
I grabbed a wire, hooked it to reds, ran it outside of the truck to the back drivers side tail light. Tapped into parking running light. Started the truck, worked both, but then started flickering. "FUCK".
Running reds right to the battery, they work, turn truck on to run, try each signal, each works great.
(But, I don't want reds going to a continuous true power, unless I hook a switch cutting the power, or it will kill my battery.)
Question people, I remember hooking up radios years ago, "RED WIRE" had the fuse on it, which would need to be connected to ACC, which after turning off the truck or car, power would be dead.
Why is a fuse on these lights, on black wire, says goes to the black ground???
Having the signals hooked up with yellow, blacks grounded, red straight tot he battery, turning truck on run, works, but leading red wire, to front or back tapping into running lights, so when the truck is turned on run, signals will work, when turning on the truck, the lights should continue to stay on, then hit each signal each should work.
Thanks for your help, in advance. It's starting to piss me off.
I had the same problem tapped into the rear tail light it started flickering did you ever figure out what you needed to do?
Should the ground wire be hooked up the ground wire at the harness where you hook up the positive wire. and not grounded to the body?
After a year and a half they falling off....
Leave off the music and you would have a great instructional video
Like David said, Change the running lights over to hazards.....
No reason too. Itll flash as with the 4 ways on currently
@@brandoncaldwell95 but the running lights being on constantly would still happen too, which is what I was referring to being eliminated.
Could you remove the headlight to tap into the turn signal? I have to replace my low beam bulbs anyways
