i'm not a drummer but i've been listening to heavy metal for 30 years now. I have said it several times on this drummer's channel, being a human metronome and using the drums as a gym does not make him a "serious" drummer. yes social of him the wow effect is guaranteed. he often plays with one hand .. but he doesn't transmit anything, dry sounds without dynamics, without any feeling. this is the difference between a technical drummer like Portony but who puts his taste into it and a puppet like the one in question. it looks like a "f***k" metronome installed in an old drum machine. I'm sorry for those who follow him and make him monetize on social media but the total cosmic void gives me nothing, i could rather ask him to be my personal trainer at the gym.

Estepario has been dubbed The Quarantine King. He was discovered by most of his followers (myself included) with his Instagram posts of him overplaying songs. He’s super humble...to this day he still doesn’t understand why he’s blown up the way he has. All of his videos are great and he’s hilarious in his technique videos.

Oh he knows why. As he has stated before is goal is to become the best drummer he can be. Strip the drums to its core, play covers of the most challenging songs and modify the play speed to match ones ability in order to play clean then increase tempo and switch to faster subdivisions dcas comfort sets in no reason to find faster songs. Play fast songs slow with more subdivisions then by the time it’s brought to live speed one can play double speed at will on any fill a la the Bearded Gorilla you see before you. Always play on the edge of ones ability focusing on increasing tempo only after total economy of motion is achieved (correct sticking/subdivisions, dynamics) as one must be able to play ppp to fff when needed in order to master any given tempo as one must be systematic in nature and have an understanding of goals as this must be realized for effective practice.

Yup. 27 years of metal drumming and a complete perfectionist. Spent my time practicing rudiments in high school lunch hours for four years , took lessons from 14-18, and of coarse played religiously for 3 hours a day daily after school while my folks played yahtzee upstairs. Then played in tons of bands. Some great with one being signed etc....my point I love metal , music, beats and destroying the fak out my kit daily but this guy.....this fn guy....we all know as musicians we are sometimes hard to impress , well this guy gave me a recharge like I've never known before . I've seen this dude and this video of him before, but I just had a crazy realization after watching this. I had completely forgotten that this is a Mangini song! I actually searched for "Mike Portnoy Enemy Inside" to watch the *real* performance, and my jaw freaking dropped when I realized my mistake. This man is a drum savant it’s incredible to watch him play

    • @KitWriter
      @KitWriter Рік тому

Scientifically speaking, there has never been a documented drum savant.
Most music savants are autistic or whatnot.
This guy has all his personality faculties and is just a beast on drums - he probably can’t watch or hear something one time and replay it like a machine note-for-note without a metronome like a piano savant.
This guy has no problem mixing up chops different from the original to fit his mood that day.
He’s just … an amazing drummer.
I wonder if we will ever see a documented savant drummer in our lifetime?
Most autistic or neuro-diverse people dislike sharp loud noises like drums, even if many like to play them (especially electric drums now).
So it is more likely a music savant picks up playing piano, singing, etc.
But I would love to see a savant drummer one day. That would be awesome to have their work documented.

    I used to play.
I have watched 3 Rooney reactions to this drummer.
    Here is my theory.
He started by not playing on drums - maybe wooden boxes or buckets. I say that due to observing his drive during his fills - he does not depend on head tension for stroke or roll.
Also, I tend to believe his split grip on the right hand was developed to emulate the double kick; it gives him LATERAL control between the snare and floor tom on the near hand.
Lastly, it should be noted that when riding with his right, can also emulate the double kick with his left hand.
My explanation for that is....he’s a friggin’ mutant....
