He works the maze backward by starting at the least common denominator and working out. Now, that said, I would love to see how he attacks Jarzombek's stuffs. Mad Data race, the Bambi song, Mosquito Brain Surgery, etc. These are hard because there are no patterns, it is bar by bar, chaos.
it's really cool how you're able to naturally feel the intro (13/16 tom grooves with quarter note kicks under it, and then 13/16 left hand toms with 8th note overriding between floor tom and cowbell!) without knowing exactly what time it is in, I'm curious how you approach learning some of the prog covers you've done where the timing changes constantly if you prefer to not worry about specific time signatures as you learn complex music. Do you break things down into these linear tiny groups of notes (like you did here with the 1 2 1-2 1 2 3 punches) and just not worry about the overall time signature since counting the pulse allows for playing by feel? I've noticed in some covers you vocalize the music you're playing along to when you get really into it, does that also help you initially learn complex music quickly? Knowing that he's overriding 8ths between cowbell and floor (that's what Gavin Harrison calls it, idk if there's a correct term) in 13/16, that means that insane snare/kick patterning going on at 16:15 is hard to figure out because it alternates from starting on a cowbell, then a 16th between cow and floor, then on a floor, then between a floor and cow, repeat if I'm understanding it correctly (also never heard this before). I love seeing your approach to stuff in these videos, really interesting stuff!
This video made my day. Every time i watch you playing i say holy shit. Your the most real genuine dude I’ve ever seen on any UA-cam video. I love your reaction. It shows the respect for hard work other drummers put in. You definitely are one of the guys who are inspiring other people to play the drums AND PRACTICE! For the one groove you are struggling to hear at 16:18 i think i can help. He is Playing 8th or 16th notes with his feet, single stroke role with left and right and the trick is he is alternating "snare, tom1 tom2" with left hand nad "floortom - cowbell" with his left hand. I would love to see your reaction to Evgeny Novikov
Mario Duplantier, Samus66 , Aric improta, You... You learn from each other, it's crazy! you're the best new wave, over the top! Thanks a lot!
You are truly one of the best drummers ever and I love your humbleness and that you are an encouragement to all!! 😎
You know Mario would humble him right
Awesome job brother! Literally watch them play this yesterday live at the Good things festival here in Brisbane Australia!
"Im gonna break this down for you"
*a few moments later*
"Ok now we are fucked!"
🤣🤣🤣🤣
This was such a great video man, thanks for being so honest and vulnerable with your audience, love your work 🤙
Gran vídeo de Didáctica!!!!. Gracias por tu trabajo y dedicación!!!!.
I said it before. You are a sweet spirit and to know that Mario is the same is a wonder! I've not heard anything like this. So good!
One of the best videos I've ever seen like this - can't even tell you how how amazing you are. Cheers!
If you could figure out wtf is going on in the beginning of the song “the art of dying” that would be great. Been listening to that for years now, still no fucking idea
Maaan I just love everyting about your videos.. The way you present, choice of words, edit, your persona. Its great!
Stay awesome.
It's actually a very simple way to play incredible solos!
Much respect!
Absolutely Amazing. Love your videos As a drummer you just unlocked some very nice work
Thanks to you I discovered Mario Duplantier and how good he is ! It's astonishing !!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯
I guess he's french (hence his last name), Félicitations Mario ! Impressionnant tout ça !! 😁😁
Estepario eres un monstruo 🤟🏼🥁 gracias por compartir este tesoro
I think you should react to Romain Goulon (Necrophagist drumming), you'll like it!
Some parts reminded me on the epic drumsolo of my youth when we had to share things on lanpartys or with cd. It was played by Mike mangini and just mind-blowing to see the first one handed snarerolls of my life and those powerfull tom grooves. I like it a lot
Respect!!!! Thank you for your commentary on Mario who I am a new fan of bc of YOU!
You both have so much talent its amazing to watch
Very cool! I really enjoyed watching your take on Mario’s solo! Thank you
