    Great content! Phillip. For these questions, I do always follow this trick and may be you can share this trick with others as well, in case you haven't already. Trick is to always assume work as multiple of time figures in the question. Let's say for the last questions instead of choosing 1 widget work as 1.. take a multiple like 6. This ensures your rate to never be in fractions and enables you to add rates easily.

    Hi Buddy,
    I love the way you explain things,
    Gained a lot of wisdom in these couple of weeks.
    Just wanted to add a standard format as it helped me understand the problem much better.
    Prepare a table for all WAT related problems and Use the formula : T*A = W for calculating Average
    Time Average Work
    4 1/8 1/2
    16 1/4 4
    ? 3/8 5
    Explanation for the values below.
    As he mentioned we can add averages and not time.
    1/8+1/4 = 3/8
    Therefore, T = 5*8/3 = 40/3

    There is a short-cut with the final question:
    1st: Work out both rates: (1) R1 = 1/6 (2) R2 = 1/4
    2nd: The difference between these two rates (i.e. Joel's double speed!) is (1/4 - 1/6 = 1/12)
    3rd: Work out Joel's rate: 1/12 x 2 = 1/6
    4th: His time is simply the reciprocal = 6 = Answer

    Hey Philip! On the last one I didn't quite use your method, but I'm curious to know if you think it's valid
    It made sense to me to set it up like
    J + V = 1/3
    2J + V = 1/2
    rearrange, then subtract
    2J + V = 3/6
    J + V = 2/6
    -------------------
    J = 1/6
    J = 6/1 (individual time)

    Hey Philip , do you have a video on mixtures problems, if not, it would help a lot, if you could do one

  • @irfanbasha3928
    @irfanbasha3928 3 роки тому +1

    Hey! Thanks for your videos! Can you clarify this for me:
    I have been using the formula " Output = (No. of workers) (Sum of each worker's Individual rate) (No. of hours) " , but not sure why this doesn't seem to work in your problems..
    For example, in the first example of Ana and Samaiyaara, I wrote down the formula as:
    Output = (No. of workers) (Sum of each worker's Individual rate) (No. of mins)
    1/2 task= (1 worker) (Ana's Individual Rate) (4mins)
    4 tasks= (1 worker) (Samaiyara's Individual Rate) (16mins)
    which implies, Ana's Individual rate = 1/8 and Sumaiyaara Individual rate = 1/4
    Working together, their combined rate is 3/8, so now the formula becomes
    5 tasks = (2 workers) (3/8) (No. of minutes)
    Solving for time, I am getting 20/3mins unlike 40/3.
    Can you point me out where I am going wrong?
    Thanks!

    • @TheTestedTutor
      @TheTestedTutor  3 роки тому

      I don't know where that formula comes from, seems wrong to me. Why would 3 workers with a combined rate of 3/8 be any different to 2 workers with a combined rate of 3/8? We have already combined them. Maybe that formula works if you do average instead of sum. My method is totally different as you can see.

    Q- in a garrison there are 600 soldiers and food supply they have is sufficient for 30 days. After 10 days, 200 more soldiers join. If rate of food consumption is same for every soldier, how long will the food supply last after these 200 soldiers joined?
    A - 15
    Unable to apply the concepts learnt here, can u help out!

    • @ameykool08
      @ameykool08 3 роки тому +1

      You can do it like:-
      Total amount of food for 30 days= 600×30=18000 portions
      In 10 days 600 soldiers will eat = 600×10= 6000 portions
      So we left with 18000-6000 =12000 portions
      After that 200 new soldiers joined so total soldiers will be 800
      Therefore, Number of days it will last = 12000/800
      I.e. 15 days
      Hope this helps 🙂
