I've got the Boonedox on my 120 AutoPilot which is heaver than that Yak, I think. Anyway it's 170 when I pull it out of the water. I mounted mine through the side walls. using metal backing plates and a white board for support. Both are supplied by Bonnedox. Check your warranty but hat's whats worked best for me for loading and I've tried all else. Winches, Hoists. Wilderness, Malone,, Boonedox is the only reasonable way to launch and pull your yak out of the water.
I hear you. Yeah you added some good support. Unfortunately, I'm not that handy. The sidekick landing gear definitely makes the most sense. Another issue I had was that the dealer gave me a sidekick for bonafide. Even though it fits on the natives, it came with a notice mentioning that it's only designed for 2 bonafide models and would void hull warranty if attached to another kayak. Who knows maybe I'll get one from native in the future. Bunk cart for now!
Enjoyed your review, great job. Couple things I added to mine, you may already know about. I mounted a yakattack rotogrip to the threaded spot on the propel drive, to hold net handle. Also added 3DYAK seat risers. Same riser does 1.5 or 3 inch. Much more comfy for me, plus better visibility into water. Good luck with your new kayak!
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! Yes, I've been thinking about what to use that thread for and forgot to mention in it in the video. My only concern is the handle sticking up as I like to fish or cast from the front a lot. Do you find seat risers make the kayak less stable? Or more "tippy"
@@reelnationfishing Happy to help! I stand & sit while fishing, and for me the net handle stays forward , of the way. I push the handle as far fwd as possible. I personally don't find the risers changed stability, was pleasantly surprised. I use mine always @ 3". Of course everybody has different feelings, but for me the risers have been great. They also gain more storage height, under the seat
I don’t own that boat so I am no expert on it but when I see your rod tube protector I automatically think one per rod , less is more sometimes. I understand the need for more rods but not in those protectors unless you want to get frustrated . That is a awesome boat and I am sure you will rig it up very nicely. Good luck on your new yak
i have a OT 120 pdl thinking about getting another kayak 2024 slayer max 10 or titan x 10 for my brother or myself so I'm just watching youtube and doing more research ATM wish i can test the kayak but all my friends has hobbie or Oldtown only Thx for Ur Review
OT 120 pdl is a good kayak. You can test out kayaks at a few dealers. Im not sure where you are located but if your seriously considering buying an expensive kayak, I would test it out.
The kayak is very nice, but i just can't get past the procedure to engage and dis-engage the peddle unit! That cover is a no-go for me, i owned a cheap entry level $1200.00 peddle kayak (HooDoo-120P) that has the exact same set-up for the peddle drive and i sold it because of that, it was such a pain in the a$$ to lift and clean or when the water got shallow, I ended up with the oldtown sportsman 106pdl one twist of the nob and it lifts right up. Nice review i just can't believe a kayak at that price point doesn't have a more convenient peddle unit?? Enjoy and good luck, tight lines!
I hear you. I actually don't mind the cover at all. It does take a bit to get used to it. This being my first fishing kayak, I didn't feel it to be as cumbersome. Been a good first season. Looking forward to spring! Thank you for the comment!
thanks for sharing the information mate. I ordered mine just 3 days ago and your review is very usefull! any experience with it on saltwater? Greetings from Greece
Great video thank you, are you going to put a Fish finder, GPS or trolling motor on it? The reason I ask is this is the kayak I’m going to get and I want to do tournaments on it, I’m just not sure what is allowed. Can you please answer this and keep the videos coming!
Yes my plan is is to get a fish finder and a gps trolling motor on the setup. Both can really help with getting on fish. Its also a competitive advantage for tournament fishing. The kayak is great, ive kept it pretty bare bones and plan on doing a 1 year review video. Tournament trails are all different - find one in your area and read the rules as to what's allowed and isn't. Most larger trails allow for fish finders and motors. Thanks for watching.
U probably already know but just in case, the 2 screws at the front of ur seat (where it mounts to the geartrack) has to be screwed onto the tab (seat slug). There might be a way to be able to lift ur kayak from the bow but you’d have to buy the Berleypro Steering Upgrade Handle Wheel ($89). With that installed u can turn ur rudder more than 90 degrees before lifting ur kayak from the front.
Yeah I just had them un screwed. I'm always moving things around in the garage. That's good to know. Might look into it. Found a good way to car top the kayak without jeopardizing the rudder.
I thought about it. When it was released and I saw that video at ICAST I thought to myself this is the boat I want. I just really wanted a kayak now after looking into them for so many months. There will always be something better, time is of the essence.
Nice vid. Well spoken. To the point. Thanks.
Thank you. I'm glad it helped!
