I am looking at buying a used 2022. But I'm still on the fence between the native and Jackson big rig. You definitely answered some questions and gave me ideas! Thanks again! great video
I just looked at this kayak today. Let's say it's in the running with a Jackson Knarr, Hobie Pro Angler and an Old Town Sportsman 120 PDL at the moment. I'll pick one once I figure out how I'm going to rig it out. I mean I'd love a Pro Angler, but I think I can get an equivalent setup for half the price if I plan it right. I like your rod rack. I'm not likely to go the same option, probably a Wilderness Systems Kayak Krate or Blackpak Pro or something but man that is nice.
@@heavyzfishing4809 I have the original Black Pack but if I get something with space in the back, I'm going to get one of the larger BlackPak Pros that does not have the annoying lip. I since realized the Wilderness Systems Kayak Krate doesn't hold 3700 boxes and all mine are 3700s.
Thanks for your very thorough review on this thing! A month or so ago I got tired of fighting with my paddle kayak and decided to upgrade to a pedal drive. Not knowing the options, I went on Marketplace and looked around and a guy had an almost new one for sale. I googled for reviews, found yours and by the time I got back to him he sold it. Over the next several weeks, everything I looked at just didn't seem to compare. The Hobies are nice, but all those 3600 and 3700 boxes right there at immediate reach? Can't beat that. You mentioned the wiring, and touched on the transducer but one thing you forgot to mention is the mounting block. That thing is pretty awesome as well, since you can literally mount any transducer to the boat without using silicone mounting pads or drilling holes in the hull. Remove the block, mount the transom brackets from your transducer to the block and put it back in the boat and run the wire. I picked mine up this morning based on all the things you mentioned that I just didn't find in the others. Took it out for a quick 3 or 4 mile spin in the marsh on the way home. Couldn't be more pleased, and cant wait to get my gear transferred over and actually do some fishing! Thanks again brother!
Just like Pork Chop, I ALSO have a Native 13.5 Propel!! As with him, you have given me ideas as well!! What a wonderful video-review!! I THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!
Hey man great info. I am 75, live in coastal NC or "the OBX" and looking for my 1st. fishing kayak. The choices can drive you crazy but you have made me a believer. Thanks
Subscribed. Thank you so much for the in depth review. I’m looking at buying my very first actual peddle driver fishing kayak. And this helped me a lot! Thanks bro
I forgot to tell about the issue with the rudder screw that you mentioned. I solved that with a simple rubber/plastic fat washer. You don't need to tighten much, just enough to deform the rubber washer a little bit, which creates tension to keeps things in place without to put more friction on the rudder system, like when you tighten it firmly. It has been 4 years, I've never lost my rudder.
Gotta add a nice Bixpy j2 on that baby. I do love the slayer fleet. They're solid hulls,, decks and there amazing stability. I. Love all boat's lol..I purchased my 2020 Hobie Mirqge compass, and I'm 5ft 7" 153 lbs, and walj all over her. Did alott of custom add-ons, electronics, DIY'S, square hatch in the cockpit, and moved my round hatch to the bow. Awsome storage, and halpph pumps with the Bixpy, she's easily at 5.5 to 6 mph. Stay self brother, love the color qnd setup. 🙏 😎 🎣
We typically don’t keep any fish. We are CPR (catch, photo, and release anglers) but we can take a cooler with us on this yak. So if you wanted you could do that! Thanks for watching.
Is a kayak like this easy to paddle with or is it a slug in the water when you paddle it? Obviously it has the pedal system but I'm just curious how something like this would work with a paddle.
Your calculations are correct. It’s a beast to paddle but it’s definitely not impossible. I think any adult of any fitness level can paddle this yak but it’s not made for paddling.
Far as I know my brother has not taken any of his dogs out with him on his yak. I have the same kayak but the 2022 version. It would depend on the size of the dog and weather or not you have the pedal drive inserted or not. You could definitely fit a small/medium dog on the back half of the yak
@@dillanzmolik4430 my boat was made in early December 2021 so didn’t have the seat tray but everything else. My plastics go under the seat in Plano worm bags
Hey! I have a question about this kayak. When you have the chair in the uppermost position, how high up is it from where your feet are? Are they something you could give me a measure of? I am thinking of buying a kayak like this but have problems with my knees & an ankle so ergonomics is a big must for me then /// Andreas
Awesome video, I have the Berley handle on mine as well. Where did you get the knob from? Also I noticed you removed you bmx grips of the sides, thinking of doing the same to move my landing gear forward more. Does that hinder you from taking off the wheels when you lift the kayak?
Thank you much! The knob came from Berley as well. With the grips on the side, I wanted to have the landing gear as close to my seat as possible. It’s not a problem for me getting the wheels back in. I actually grab the landing gear where it mounts to the track and lift it from there. Hope this helps, catch you on the flip side.
I do not. When the rack is fully lowered it’s still at a steep enough angle to keep the rods properly seated. Hope this helps, catch you on the flip side!
It comes with the seat. The platform mounts to the kayak itself then the seat mounts to the platform. It’s fantastic! I highly recommend. Thanks for the comment!
I want to say yes but honestly I don’t know for sure. Your best bet would be to find one at a retailer and actually sit in it. When I get home I’ll sit in mine and get a better view point then I’ll get back with you! Thanks for the comment
Alright, I just put the drive in my kayak and sat down. I do believe you will be ok in reaching the pedals. My legs are 36 inches long from my feet to my waist and I have plenty of extra length. Hope this helps. Catch you on the flip side!
Such a dream, gear porn! I thought the black one was a fish bag, Jesus christ man, where do you store the fish, it is just tackle everywhere 😅🤣😂. I loved the seat system, I try will to build something similar now my seat was broken by waves in the surf 😢😢😢😢
The net us an overrated piece of gear. It takes up a ton of room, and is always in the way. A fish grabber is all you need. Help stamp out fish nets in fresh water, totally unnecessary >
I can see your point Chuck, but for us who aren’t efficient with a fish grabber the net is the way to go. Especially when fishing with a treble hook bait. I also think that using a net in a tournament would be more applicable/faster than a fish grabber. But I can see your point. Thanks for commenting dude.
Well you got me sold man. Currently in the market for my first fishing kayak and this has been one of the best overviews I’ve watched.
Man that’s awesome to hear! Thank you for the kind words!
What a great review of a Native Kayak…thank you!

Great review of your kayak and gear! Quick question, where and what do you use to keep caught fish?

I haven’t seen much information on the laidback kayak rack. What’s your opinion of it now? Still great? Avoid?
Sweet setup brother 👍
Much appreciated!
Does your transducer being under the kayak mess with your side imaging. I’m seriously thinking of making the switch from a Jackson big rig hdfd.
What is the name of your rod holder back there? That thing is sweet!

does the drive have any fluids in it at all? if so how did you drain it?

Nice kayak. I noticed the steering handle is backwards any reason why.
No reason really. I found out that I do like it better that way. No issues whatsoever and she turns on a dime! Thanks for the comment!

I do not. When the rack is fully lowered it’s still at a steep enough angle to keep the rods properly seated. Hope this helps, catch you on the flip side!
what type of synthetic did you use?
Have you ever tried the manta ray? I can’t really find any good videos on it.
No I have not, is that a different kayak from Native?
Does that seat compartm come with the yak or is it a separate add on?

Where you keep fish and how you put it there?
Flip your flag around......stars to the left. Great review BTW
@34 inches wide, can you stand up in it , how stable is it ?
Yes you can stand, and for the experienced kayaker it’s very stable.
