The finished flooring and decor was such a relief for my eyes! The old apartment was painful to look at. You don't need to have a decorator's eye to know when something looks good and when it doesnt. I love how a few changes really transformed the space, it really looks so much more welcoming and neat and like a place you can relax in. Good job on the flooring, came here because a friend's rental has hideous flooring and she's desperate to find a way to cover it up and she is not into carpets either. Don't know why people still want wall to wall carpeting. Its so hot and gross and hard to clean.

Ingenious for rental apartment living! The only thing I’d worry about is the smell of the carpet seeping through eventually. That carpet looked pretty gross before you covered them, dirty and stained, I can only assume that thing stinks. I would recommend pouring a few boxes of baking soda, scattered all around on the carpet to deodorize, before laying that wood subfloor/underlayment over it. Other than that, really really awesome idea!

This is inspiring! Love what you've done with the apt. I want to cover old carpet in a small townhouse. A question - are the plywood boards anchored to the carpet in any way (double-sided tape?) or to each other and how? I thought I saw tape, but would that be sufficient to for stability?

Ya at first I thought his video was a marketing ad because of how close his face was to the camera. Then I saw the cross and thought "Ok maybe he has some sort of Christian influences." Then he threw the middle finger. Perhaps a religious upbringing. I kept searching for signs of a wife living there. I saw few cozy things, I saw sketches of little girls and hoped it was a daughter or his. But then the smoking Bob Marley picture and unsubtle nude pics everywhere. He must be an artist with worldly views and trying to appear Christian to either a UA-cam audience or women. Crosses don't prove Christianity, nor does the Bible he had in the background. Before those images popped up, I tried to click like 3 times and it wouldn't let me. IMMEDIATELY when that happened, I got a strange feeling that God would be warning me. That's when the picture popped up of a little girl and nasty women. I think he lives alone and watches porn alot for "inspirational photos."

Fantastic work! I love your IDGAF, it's-for-the-greater-good, too. So excited to find someone who's actually done this successfully!
Short story long: I haaaaate carpet, too. Especially questionably clean apartment carpet. My complex said they cleaned mine before moving in, but it did NOT smell, look, or feel clean.
We don't wear shoes in the house, so I had it recleaned soon after because every time I walked in and took off my shoes off a mild rage overcame me. 😠😄
Then I layed new area rugs because was still ugly as hell and showed set in stains in areas. But it gets 'bunchy' now where furniture sits. I'm down over close to $500 as a result of those 2 remedies. 😠😑
This idea came to me because I have a local closeout chain near me called Ollie's that has tons of laminate floor boxes CHEAP. Plus, I want to come home and enjoy my space in my advancing age vs. tolerating Grandma's attic style or 1st-broke-apt. surroundings. I think I will probably lay some plastic sheeting down before laying that cheap, rough chippy & shreddy OSB board on the carpet. I don't want to be picking wood splinters on move out and have them charge me for "damaging" their floor.
Your cabinets look awesome, but I am hesitant to attempt to paint my own extremely ugly dark brown cabinets. I can paint my walls, but my lease says I have to paint them back to the original sorry beige color on move out.
I can't hand them back their cabinets in the originally ugly state, so I think that removable wall paper covering will be the safest bet since they are totally flat with no fixtures.
    Thanks for the inspiration!

I toured some newer luxury apartments going up in my area, they all had laminate in the main areas and carpet in the bedrooms. I think it all depends on the type of tenants that rent places. Some people just dont care and they destroy their residence. Others actually care. I hate carpet, i found myself shampooing regularly. It was gross. I realize its cheaper to just replace carpet out of the security deposit if it gets ruined. Laminate isnt always easy to match, it goes discontinued often then what do you do? Looks awesome and pretty smart on your part to do that, that carpet made me want to puke.

  • @socksumi
    @socksumi Рік тому

I prefer lot's of carpet. Softens the acoustics and makes the place overall more comfortable. Even this apt there's too much reverberation echo thanks to all the hard surfaces. People usually only consider the visual but never think of other sensory perceptions like sound and acoustics. That's important to human comfort.

I agree. Rugs are a better option than carpet.
    1. You can remove and wash them
    2. You can replace them when you remodel the apartment or house
    3. You can remove them all together when you dont wanna use antihero at the moment.
    4. They come in different size to accommodate the buyer.
If a renter wants carpet they'll most likely just buy a bug rug, it's more accommodate in ng and easier to care for. Mush hatderntonclean carpet and if you do you cant even walk on it for like 24 hours.

It looks great and I love it, I’m wondering if you can ease my concern of the stability of it? I noticed in the video that some of the plywood kept bouncing up and down a little due to the carpet. Did the duck tape help with that?

I really want to cover my ugly ass, mustard colored carpet... But I'm really worried my boyfriend will stand around telling me that I'm not only annoying the crap out of him but that I'm wasting my time and money. I know he doesn't trust me with dremel much less a jigsaw.
I love having him at home but I can't get away with nothin'! Normally I just do all my projects when I'm home alone that way no one can say, "What are you doing!? You crazy! Stop!" But instead they'll come home when I'm finished or mostly done and they'll say, "Wow this is looking great!". I know I'm totally off on a tangent now but it really bothers the crap out of me that everyone loves what I do when I'm finished but thinks I'm an absolute idiot during the process. And it never changes no matter how many projects they end up liking!
