The finished flooring and decor was such a relief for my eyes! The old apartment was painful to look at. You don't need to have a decorator's eye to know when something looks good and when it doesnt. I love how a few changes really transformed the space, it really looks so much more welcoming and neat and like a place you can relax in. Good job on the flooring, came here because a friend's rental has hideous flooring and she's desperate to find a way to cover it up and she is not into carpets either. Don't know why people still want wall to wall carpeting. Its so hot and gross and hard to clean.

This is inspiring! Love what you've done with the apt. I want to cover old carpet in a small townhouse. A question - are the plywood boards anchored to the carpet in any way (double-sided tape?) or to each other and how? I thought I saw tape, but would that be sufficient to for stability?

Ingenious for rental apartment living! The only thing I’d worry about is the smell of the carpet seeping through eventually. That carpet looked pretty gross before you covered them, dirty and stained, I can only assume that thing stinks. I would recommend pouring a few boxes of baking soda, scattered all around on the carpet to deodorize, before laying that wood subfloor/underlayment over it. Other than that, really really awesome idea!

Fantastic work! I love your IDGAF, it's-for-the-greater-good, too. So excited to find someone who's actually done this successfully!
Short story long: I haaaaate carpet, too. Especially questionably clean apartment carpet. My complex said they cleaned mine before moving in, but it did NOT smell, look, or feel clean.
We don't wear shoes in the house, so I had it recleaned soon after because every time I walked in and took off my shoes off a mild rage overcame me. 😠😄
Then I layed new area rugs because was still ugly as hell and showed set in stains in areas. But it gets 'bunchy' now where furniture sits. I'm down over close to $500 as a result of those 2 remedies. 😠😑
This idea came to me because I have a local closeout chain near me called Ollie's that has tons of laminate floor boxes CHEAP. Plus, I want to come home and enjoy my space in my advancing age vs. tolerating Grandma's attic style or 1st-broke-apt. surroundings. I think I will probably lay some plastic sheeting down before laying that cheap, rough chippy & shreddy OSB board on the carpet. I don't want to be picking wood splinters on move out and have them charge me for "damaging" their floor.
Your cabinets look awesome, but I am hesitant to attempt to paint my own extremely ugly dark brown cabinets. I can paint my walls, but my lease says I have to paint them back to the original sorry beige color on move out.
I can't hand them back their cabinets in the originally ugly state, so I think that removable wall paper covering will be the safest bet since they are totally flat with no fixtures.
    Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks sooooooo much for this video. Funny thing is, I work for a flooring company and I asked the owner on the day I signed my offer letter when they were giving me the tour, if something like this could be done and they told me.No because there would be nothing that I could put on the carpet that wouldn't shift when I walked. Ya at first I thought his video was a marketing ad because of how close his face was to the camera. Then I saw the cross and thought "Ok maybe he has some sort of Christian influences." Then he threw the middle finger. Perhaps a religious upbringing. I kept searching for signs of a wife living there. I saw few cozy things, I saw sketches of little girls and hoped it was a daughter or his. But then the smoking Bob Marley picture and unsubtle nude pics everywhere. He must be an artist with worldly views and trying to appear Christian to either a UA-cam audience or women. Crosses don't prove Christianity, nor does the Bible he had in the background. Before those images popped up, I tried to click like 3 times and it wouldn't let me. IMMEDIATELY when that happened, I got a strange feeling that God would be warning me. That's when the picture popped up of a little girl and nasty women. I think he lives alone and watches porn alot for "inspirational photos."

THANK YOU! I am preparing to move back in to my mother’s house for a bit to save money and finish school. I’ll be staying in her basement which is huge, completely finished, and has a surprising amount of large windows. Unfortunately, the basement is entirely carpeted. My current apartment is extremely dated, but one element I love is the hardwood flooring throughout. I have lots of indoor plants, and they just look lackluster sitting on carpet. Hard flooring also feels so much more bright and clean. Because this move is meant to lower my cost of living and strengthen my savings, I am trying to avoid any pricey projects to make myself feel at home.
I will 100% be using your method, and I thank you for sharing this beautiful, easy, and affordable idea!

Came for the floors, stayed for the art! 😍 your place is so beautiful and the floors just made it that much better! I’m going to be doing this to my room and bathroom! I can’t wait!

Awesome idea!! I've never wanted to live in an apartment because i HATE carpet and know I wouldn't be able to remove it... I'll totally do this when i get my own place.

I'm like you I can't stand wall to wall carpet. I like the idea of plywood over carpet to put down wood. I may try that in my daughters apt. TFS

yay an update! lmfao at "nicotine yellow"
Question, i apologize if you said it in the video, are you reusing the laminate from the last place? If so, that is perfect!

Hi! Does the flooring feel soft underneath at all? I saw when you were standing on the plywood, it rocked a little bit. Can you feel that when the flooring is put on top? Thanks!!

Thank you very much. I'm moving my pole to my dads old room (rip), and I rather not have carpet, but it's rental, so this is exactly what I needed.

Thank you for sharing! I hate carpet and my new apartment will have carpet in the two bedrooms. I’m going to try this. Between allergies and worrying about stains, this is a great idea to get rid of or hide carpet!!!

How did the flooring hold up? I’ve watched several videos and some people have concerns about mold because of the floors not being sealed and moisture can get underneath.

Wow! I can’t get over the difference. It’s so much more airy and open. I swear my apartment would be perfect if it had hard floors. I’m actually thinking about doing this! I would leave my bedroom carpet alone and just do the living room/dining.

Way too long of an introduction but man this looks amazing! I’m going to try it’s. Also where did you purchase your couch from and where did you get the tiles from?

I needed a confirmation that it is worth doing thanks, and undercutting the bottom of the door is based maybe I will do the same if the need arises. I think my carpet is so hard that I can easily lay the flooring directly on it but the idea chipboard is cool too
