Ok. I have subscribed to Tango the Cat channel. I have known a lot of domestic shorthairs that color and they were all very special. So, I did get a kitten today! 🥳
That actually went really well. A few hisses, but all the ears were forward, and there was lots of curious sniffing... but no real aggression. Kitten was even getting playful towards the end!
The kitten was showing dominance over the grey one. Mainly because the grey one was showing submission. Need to watch those two though biggest risk for an injury.
Went well? Are you serious? This kitten is extremely stressed. Look at it's fur standing on edge! This is a terrible way to introduce a new cat to the household! Put it in a small room for a few days and let the other cats sniff at the door so both sets of cats can familiarize themselves with the new scent! Then slowly introduce physical contact for a few days.
Still need to be careful. Introducing cats to each other should be done more progressively, like putting them in different rooms first and letting them snif each other through the door, feeding them close to that door for positive reinforcement etc.
Love how the kitten immediately goes into battle mode and Tom just looks a bit confused by this tiny goblin hissing at him. And then they switch roles.
@@9Misaki3 Fuck do you want them to do? FaceTime before they meet? The kitten would be terrified even if it was behind 3 foot thick glass. It's a process.
More like naive, if it did that on the street it would be dead in less than a minute ( just going up to adult cats like that) . It's been around domesticated cats so its not experienced attacks , but that cowering in the end showed it knew it was in danger.
@Life with pets Thank you for all that you do your amazingly big heart. It's people like you who are the real heroes of this world. Much respect and gratitude.💙
When I got my kitten smaller than this one, he was so confident and trusting right off the bat. Even when introducing him to the neighbours cat he just stood tall and unaffected by the neighbours cat growling and hissing and then just fell asleep infront of it. Interesting to see different cats have different demeanors, ever since I got mine he's shown me the beauty behind them (most of the time)
My Birdie (RIP💔) was small and had zero f*cks to give. She was 6 to 8 months when I brought her home and happy, playful and comfortable from the first minute. She wanted me in my bed by 11 pm so she could sleep with me. No exceptions. She was a chatterbox. MissKitty was 5 months old and huge -bigger than Birdie when I brought her home and terrified, had to keep her in the bathroom until she came out on her own. Have her for a year in February and she is still skittish of noise and is just starting to come into my bedroom. She gets mad when I go to bed. She grabs my leg and tries to hold me in the living room. She has a sassy playful attitude, and hardly makes a sound. They’re both so loving but very different.
It's mostly the new unfamiliar smell the cats are hissing at. My cats do the same when one of them has been to the vet. Isolating the new cat in it's own room for a day or two, giving it time to take on the smell of the house, helps these kinds of introduction. That being said, it looks like it didn't go too bad overall, could have been a lot worst.
I agree that the kitten needed to explore, and become comfortable in, the environment before introducing it to the other cats. It went well considering that though.
Disappointed that didn't happen, unnecessary to put the kitten through the stress of meeting 3 adults like this. A couple of days separation where cats can smell each other, see each other, but no direct contact, is the way to do it. But, hey - UA-cam views, right? 😔
Adopted a mother/daughter combo back in December. They were separated after the weening process and had not seen each other for about 2 or so months. I was really nervous about reintroducing them. The daughter was immediately poofed up and hissing. Mom just walked over and started grooming her. Kid calmed down and everything was totally fine.
There was a cat living at the theme park I worked at (theme parks often have feral cats living under things cause they’ll hide from patrons but keep mice and rats and other vermin down), that was all black except mostly white hind legs, I called them Mr Bootems ❤️
Kitten likes Mimi. Mimi doesn't like kitten. Tom likes Kitten. Kitten doesn't like Tom. Kitten likes Prince. Prince is deadly afraid of the 2 pound something kitten. I like this dynamic.
There are methods that can help introduce cats to one another. It's a long process that requires a lot of time, energy, and patients, but it's worth it to not have your cats fighting 24/7. Basically you keep the cats separate, and slowly introduce them to each other with smells, food, and play. Jackson Galaxy (my cat from hell guy) has videos on it in more detail.
@@ponykazy3725 Exactly! Too many people just put animals together and hope for the best. It's very stresful for the animals (especially the smaller ones).

In all fairness, this was very much one of the most relaxed introduction and I'm amazed of how calm and smooth that was compared to what I've seen in the past. Especially since a single kitten was presented to a group of cats who were familiar to each other. They could have decided to team up on the kitten. Great relaxing ambiance, this probably helped.

No cheesy music or voice over. Good work, thumbs up!

Sure, but I would argue that a human talking to the cats at first introduction could help them settle in.
